Some Vols fans apparently not up for the trip to Athens

georgia bulldog clubAs a Bulldog Club member/Hartman Fund contributor, I got an interesting email Tuesday offering additional tickets to the Sept. 29 Georgia-Tennessee game in Athens.

It seems Vols fans didn’t buy up all the tickets to the game that UGA sent them.

According to the email, “Tennessee recently returned a limited quantity of tickets priced at $70 each. We are extending the offer for you to purchase up to 4 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Contractual agreements stipulate that, for home events, schools may charge visiting teams the ticket price our patrons pay at the visiting team’s stadium. The visiting school may return unsold tickets to the home school. Those tickets are to be sold at the face value that is charged to the visiting team.”

The returned tickets that were available are located in the 600 level of Sanford Stadium, and I picked up a couple for one of my brothers.

Anyway, Tennessee returning tickets for a major road game made me wonder if the Big Orange fan base is truly sold on Tyler Bray and Co. this season. Normally you’d expect them to be snapping up all the tickets available to them for that game.

More news emanating from the Bulldog Club this week was Wednesday’s announcement of the cumulative cutoff scores for Hartman Fund contributors that determine assignment of renewable season tickets and away and home single-game tickets.

Basically, this year any contributor who gave a minimum of $250 per seat, ordered season tickets and had a cumulative score (for lifetime contributions) of 250 or higher will receive renewable season tickets. And additional nonrenewable season ticket orders will be filled.

For single-game home tickets, all contributors who wanted them for Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Vandy and Georgia Tech will receive tickets. For the Tennessee game, all contributors who ordered with a cumulative score of 115,900 or higher will receive tickets. Contributors below 115,900 who purchased tickets that were returned from Tennessee will get them. For Ole Miss, all contributors who ordered with a cumulative score of 22,410 or higher will receive tickets. Contributors below 22,410 who purchased tickets that were returned a while back from Ole Miss priced at $55 will be filled. And for the Georgia Southern game, all contributors who ordered with a cumulative score of 28,500 or higher will receive tickets.

For games away from Sanford Stadium, the cut-off scores for Florida and Auburn have yet to be determined. All contributors who ordered tickets for Missouri, South Carolina and Kentucky will get them.

Any refunds will be mailed in mid-August, which is when tickets also will go into the mail.

MONEY TALKS …

Tyler Bray has been working on his throwing accuracy. (Associated Press)

Tyler Bray has been working on his throwing accuracy. (Associated Press)

Interesting development in the case of Tennessee QB Bray, who was accused of throwing bottles onto parked cars from an apartment complex balcony.

Knoxville police say no charges will be filed against Bray because he “reached out” to the vandalism victim and offered to pay for all the damages to her vehicle, so she no longer wishes to prosecute.

What do you think are the odds a UGA player could have gotten a deal like that in Athens?

MITCHELL ALREADY ‘BEST CORNER’

The Athens Banner-Herald had an interesting story about two-way player Malcolm Mitchell’s prospects at cornerback. Secondary coach Scott Lakatos told the paper that Mitchell, who hasn’t yet played defense for Georgia in a real game, is  “probably our best corner,” adding, “He’s a good corner. He’s got a chance to be a great corner.”

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham also said Mitchell “is very good. He’s good. He’s really good.” And when told that Lakatos said he’s the best corner, Grantham agreed.

“He is,” Grantham said. “He’s a very talented guy.”

That should make fans feel a bit better about the unsettled secondary situation for the Mizzou game.

How about beating teams you should beat

Boise St for one

Beating a good team; we havent done that since LSU in 2005

Beating a good FL team for once and more than once every 4 or 5 years

Beating a top 15 team wouldnt be bad either since we cant do that either

Not much to ask from a group of coaches that have had more prospects go to the NFL than any other SEC school since Richt has been the head coach

@UT – some credible evidence would support your post. At least Bill supported his scenario about the returned tickets. Whatever the case whether they would be better off getting somebody to take them and scalp them in Athens. There’s plenty of UGA fans who would pay more than $70 to see the Dawgs whip up on Tennessee.

In 2004, UGA was a 19-point favorite at game time over UT. Final score 19-14 UT. Dawgs blew their was the week before beating Saban’s LSU National Champs 45-16. UT had no business winning that game but did…and won the East. UGA needs to always bring their A-game against UT, especially this season. Coming off a tough Vandy may keep UGA focused, but you never know. Richt’s conservative play and Bobo’s mental in-game errors will cost UGA at least two games (not to mention special teams lapses of all kinds). Bray is going to scare the heck out of a lot of teams, so hopefully the best D at UGA since 2002 will bring us a win and get us closer to evening the series with UT. By the way Harold, UGA has exactly one less SEC title than UT, and UGA will win the SEC again before UT will. If Muschamp doesn’t get it done at UF, I suspect another coach will and eventually surpass both UT and UGA in total SEC titles (as much as it pains me to say that).

UGA fans are talking like we have won something and are the Kings of the SEC.If it wasnt from our weak schedule we wouldnt of won as many games as we did last year and guess what we got another weak sschedule this year.I feel like were Boise St of the SEC.Waite they beat us to.

Man, this is hilarious reading what you delusional UGA fans find as news. 1st, did it ever dawn on you guys that maybe it’s Athens more than it is UT fans? Or even the economy? Either way, going to Athens and watching UT beat UGA this year just doesn’t sound as appealing as watching it on a big screen at home or in a bar where you don’t have to be accosted by the countless fans that counldn’t get into Gainsville State, much less UGA.
As far as the trouble Bray got into, as much as you want to spin it, and make it seem as if your standards are higher, throwing beer bottles and golf balls, then paying for damages, is nowhere near beating up on your girlfriend, driving drunk, failing numerous drug tests and driving around with an illegal weapon. Apples and Oranges. Sort of like our schedules last year. But I digress. How about you guys worry about your team and how the whatever is in the air in Athens affects short term memory. How long ago was it that UGA had a losing record? But I guess you guys went through 3 head coaches in 3 years and had plenty of attrition on your roster. Oh wait, Richt has been there the longest of any coach in the SEC. But I mean, I see why you keep him. All those National Championships. Dang, he hasn’t gotten one yet. I’m sure just because he couldn’t get one with Knowshon, Matt Stafford, and one of the best defenses in college doesn’t mean he will never get one. Maybe Hershal will come out of retirement. But, you guys did win the East last year with all of those great wins. Wait, you didn’t play LSU until the Dome, and we see how that turned out. You didn’t play Bama, or Arkansas either, but beating Ole Miss and MSU is pretty rad. At least you did a good job representing the SEC against Boise and Michigan State. I mean, your uniforms looked really good. South Carolina must have been your best SEC victory. Wait a second, did you beat a ranked team last year? Awesome, you guys are surely going to win the NC this year because you won the weakest SEC East in 10 years without a meaningful win. I can’t wait to shell shock you overly confident Dogs. You talk about Dooley being a bad coach, I guarantee he will be coaching longer this year than Richt does. See ya in September.

@BIGDAWGFAN, you have haad more players arrested than we have had reported. You act like Dooley has some low standards or is easy, which is not true. We just don’t have the same amount of incident as you guys have had. Look at Dooley’s track record. This year he got rid of Cameron Clear, one of our best tight ends, for stealing from the team. Last year he got rid of Darren Miles and Janzen Jackson. They were two of our most notable players and would have helped an injury and transfer depleted team last year, but no mater how goofy he might look or seem and no matter how much you want to deny it, he is a high character guy. I just find it funny that you seriously try to compare drug, gun, and domestic abuse charges, among others, to something that if not for Twitter and Faceboook would not have even been real news.
Tennessee at one point had great recruiting classes and with great recruiting classes comes dumb thugs. Ask Phil Fulmer. I look at Richt and his career is mirroring Phil’s. Have a losing season where fans are calling for your job, then turn around and back into the SEC Championship by winning a weak east and get beat by LSU. Lots of offseason problems. High fan expectations with maybe a slightly over rated team. Not saying he is a bad coach at all, Richt just has the same ability to do so little with so much, a lot like Fulmer. The only difference is Phil has a National Championship.
