Some Vols fans apparently not up for the trip to Athens

georgia bulldog clubAs a Bulldog Club member/Hartman Fund contributor, I got an interesting email Tuesday offering additional tickets to the Sept. 29 Georgia-Tennessee game in Athens.

It seems Vols fans didn’t buy up all the tickets to the game that UGA sent them.

According to the email, “Tennessee recently returned a limited quantity of tickets priced at $70 each. We are extending the offer for you to purchase up to 4 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Contractual agreements stipulate that, for home events, schools may charge visiting teams the ticket price our patrons pay at the visiting team’s stadium. The visiting school may return unsold tickets to the home school. Those tickets are to be sold at the face value that is charged to the visiting team.”

The returned tickets that were available are located in the 600 level of Sanford Stadium, and I picked up a couple for one of my brothers.

Anyway, Tennessee returning tickets for a major road game made me wonder if the Big Orange fan base is truly sold on Tyler Bray and Co. this season. Normally you’d expect them to be snapping up all the tickets available to them for that game.

More news emanating from the Bulldog Club this week was Wednesday’s announcement of the cumulative cutoff scores for Hartman Fund contributors that determine assignment of renewable season tickets and away and home single-game tickets.

Basically, this year any contributor who gave a minimum of $250 per seat, ordered season tickets and had a cumulative score (for lifetime contributions) of 250 or higher will receive renewable season tickets. And additional nonrenewable season ticket orders will be filled.

For single-game home tickets, all contributors who wanted them for Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Vandy and Georgia Tech will receive tickets. For the Tennessee game, all contributors who ordered with a cumulative score of 115,900 or higher will receive tickets. Contributors below 115,900 who purchased tickets that were returned from Tennessee will get them. For Ole Miss, all contributors who ordered with a cumulative score of 22,410 or higher will receive tickets. Contributors below 22,410 who purchased tickets that were returned a while back from Ole Miss priced at $55 will be filled. And for the Georgia Southern game, all contributors who ordered with a cumulative score of 28,500 or higher will receive tickets.

For games away from Sanford Stadium, the cut-off scores for Florida and Auburn have yet to be determined. All contributors who ordered tickets for Missouri, South Carolina and Kentucky will get them.

Any refunds will be mailed in mid-August, which is when tickets also will go into the mail.

MONEY TALKS …

Tyler Bray has been working on his throwing accuracy. (Associated Press)

Tyler Bray has been working on his throwing accuracy. (Associated Press)

Interesting development in the case of Tennessee QB Bray, who was accused of throwing bottles onto parked cars from an apartment complex balcony.

Knoxville police say no charges will be filed against Bray because he “reached out” to the vandalism victim and offered to pay for all the damages to her vehicle, so she no longer wishes to prosecute.

What do you think are the odds a UGA player could have gotten a deal like that in Athens?

MITCHELL ALREADY ‘BEST CORNER’

The Athens Banner-Herald had an interesting story about two-way player Malcolm Mitchell’s prospects at cornerback. Secondary coach Scott Lakatos told the paper that Mitchell, who hasn’t yet played defense for Georgia in a real game, is  “probably our best corner,” adding, “He’s a good corner. He’s got a chance to be a great corner.”

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham also said Mitchell “is very good. He’s good. He’s really good.” And when told that Lakatos said he’s the best corner, Grantham agreed.

“He is,” Grantham said. “He’s a very talented guy.”

That should make fans feel a bit better about the unsettled secondary situation for the Mizzou game.

Wasn’t it Ernest T. (Tyler) Bray who broke windows in Mayberry?! …..At least Barney would arrest Ernest T. Bass. Will Bray even get a 1-quarter game suspension?!

That is a little strange. The UT fans have always been a passionate bunch. Makes you wonder if they’re having doubts about Coach Dooley and the team he’s put together.

This makes the point I tried to make on another blog this morning. Georgia players aren’t any more likely to get into trouble than players from other schools. UGA and the Athens PD just don’t let anyone get away with anything. That’s the dif.

“The Athens Police are tougher than any other school police department…”

“It’s not recruiting, because we’re recruiting the same players everybody else is….”

“UGA rules are tougher than anybody else in the country…”

Isn’t it possible that UGA just simply has more players getting into trouble? Why isn’t that even a possibility with UGA fans?

Bill…it makes sense that you are calling out a player from another school (Tyler Bray)….anything to take the focus off the off-field issues in Athens Huh? Andy by the way….a person/player causing damage to personal property and then stepping up and offering to pay for the damages is MUCH different than marijuana use…or illegal guns…or assault. Come on.

Read the story…Bray didn’t get “a deal.” After offering to pay for the damages, the offended party didn’t press charges…Police, therefor, had no involvement, and there was no “deal.”

The second valdalism incident envolving Bray was the next day. The girl who identified him in the first incident had her car vandalized for estimated over $500 in damages, a felony in Tenn.. Police say incidents unrelated. Stupidity in Knoxville is amazing.

I don’t think this is an uncommon occurrence these days. The pulse in Knoxville isn’t so much that we don’t support the team, it’s just that it costs a lot of money to go to away games. A lot of people are doing NC State as their away game this year. It was a regular thing for the “away” seats in Neyland to be half-empty the last couple years.

My question to you: Do you feel that football players in Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, Auburn, etc. are treated differently than other citizens?

I have no clue. I don’t really follow all police reports for every football team in the country. It just sounds childish to me to pretend like Athens police are the toughest in the country and that UGA wouldn’t have any arrests if they were somewhere else. There are also rumors online that Bray wasn’t even involved in the vandalism yet it did come from his apartment so he is being the good guy and paying for it. Who knows if that is true but it does show that people probably shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
