LSU seems to weigh heavily on Steve Spurrier's mind these days. (Associated Press)
Some random thoughts and impressions while we wait for Georgia’s turn Thursday at SEC Media Days …
Some things are as predictable as a summer afternoon thunderstorm in Atlanta, and Steve Spurrier is one of them. So no one was surprised when he took another shot at the difference between the respective SEC West opponents of Georgia and South Carolina again this season: “You think I make the schedule? If I made the schedule, Georgia would be playing LSU, and we’d be playing Ole Miss.” Funny guy. Except you’ve got to wonder whether him continually harping on his displeasure at having to play LSU might not be planting some doubt in his players’ minds about whether their head coach believes they really have no shot at beating the Bengal Tigers. …
Give Spurrier credit, though. He did come up with a great shot at Saint Nick: “It’s easier to win the national championship than the SEC. Ask Nick Saban.” …
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, noting that strength of schedule will be one of the criteria used by the new college football playoff committee, along with won-loss record, conference championships and head-to-head competition, said those guidelines “will require conferences and institutions to examine their current nonconference scheduling philosophies.” Until that all shakes out, Greg McGarity is probably going to hold off on ordering a new batch of cupcakes. …
Back to Spurrier: Talking about the SEC’s new members, he managed to send another subliminal message: “I think A&M and Missouri are going to be extremely competitive. I think they’re going to win a bunch of games. Wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t in the hunt to win a division or so. I think they may be right up in there. I think the two crucial games are obviously Georgia and Missouri early and Florida and Texas A&M early. Think those are two interesting ballgames. I hope we’re playing at a different hour that I can watch both of those live. I think those will be very interesting for all of us.” OK, coach, we get it. You’re rooting for Mizzou and A&M. …
Vanderbilt’s James Franklin: “I will tell you this: You play Vanderbilt, you better be ready to play from the beginning of the game to the end.” Which means, what, guard your knees against illegal blocks until the final whistle? …
Missouri receiver T.J. Moe proved he’s got a knack for a memorable quote when he sarcastically summed up the SEC-is-tough notion by saying, “They’ve also got prettier girls, the air’s fresher and the toilet paper’s thicker.” Moe also said that his team’s opener against Georgia is “probably going to be the most anticipated game in Missouri football history,” but at the same time he took a shot at the Dawgs by saying of the conference’s reputation: “It’s not all 12 teams who are dominating everybody. It’s one or two. The rest are kind of … average.” Ah, bulletin board material. …
Rumors are circulating that Sanders Commings will be the only Bulldog suspended for Georgia’s game with Mizzou. Since the original report on impending multi-game suspensions for Bacarri Rambo and Alec Ogletree was itself little more than a rumor coming from a high school coach and was never confirmed by anyone at UGA, we’re now dealing with rumors about rumors. How about we wait until Mark Richt actually has something to say about this. ….
A lot of folks were surprised that the Florida Atlantic game will be at night since Georgia hasn’t played a non-BCS opponent in the evening hours since 2000. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather watch Georgia play a team like that at nighttime in mid-September than around noon. And I’m sure the tailgaters and downtown Athens merchants will appreciate the longer pregame period. Meanwhile, you’ve got to wonder how much of Sanford Stadium will be empty when the Dogs kick off against Buffalo at 12:21 p.m. on Sept. 1.

The large influx of fireworks stands popping up all over Alabama is due to the fact that the Dentistry profession has all but dried up, headline in Birmingham News, “Former Alabama Dentists open record number of fireworks stands”.

I know Waste Management Systems employees will be happy. Think of the overtime hours involved in cleaning up a night game mess at UGA. Actually, you don’t have to think about it. The pictures a couple of years back told the story very well.

For their locker room, just to keep them focused on the fact that they are playing UGA in their first SEC game – not LSU or Alabama.

That is a BULLDAWG BLOG YOU D.A.
You have no credibility on this blog or any AJC/BLOGS at all. Nobody cares what you say, especially anyone that actually knows you. You’re just a lonely, pathetic little boy pretending to be a toughguy on a blog you don’t belong on. You want to single me out then come and get some. Most regular posters know excatly where I’ll be, pretty much every Friday. You can ask around, but I doubt many people on this blog, give half a hoot about you. So go home and cry to your momma and quit wasting our time…Lucy…

Georgia should win the east this year with their easy schedule, but they will get a good beatdown in the SEC title game from Alabama–Nick’s reloaded the roster with more stars, going for another title.

“SOS afraid of LSU” – somebody is paranoid over SOS because he owns Georgia. Why will Georgia win the SEC East this year? Same reason as last year – It’s the schedule Stupid..I don’t know what SOS’s record was against LSU – but I would bet he’s a winner. UGA will not win the SEC East this year – here’s the reason’s why: Mizzou, Vandy, USCe, and UF.

As for SOS’s comment on Georgia playing LSU and USe playing Ole Miss – he could have said if he made the schedule, Georgia would play LSU, BAMA, or ARKANSAS..When did any of that happen lately? BAMA – 3 years ago (remember the blackout in Athens? How did that work out? LSU – 3 years ago (except for the SEC Championship last year – How was that “Hope and Change)? ARKANSAS – 2 years ago. It’s true SEC Schedules are made up 4 or 5 years ago, but is it an interesting coincedence that BAMA was dropped this year for MIZZOU? Come – on – man…

Take a read of Jeff Schultz’s article today about the……….(LOL) “Dream Team.”
Here’s a sample:
“He has already seen seven members from his vaunted 2011 recruiting class either kicked out, flunk out or never academically qualify to begin with (“Dream Team”? Anybody?).”

Bama was drop from our schedule because the other option was ole Miss. UGA played ole miss last year in oxford so they owe us a return trip to Athens because of the rotational home and home. We did not play Bama last year so nobody owes anybody the second part of the home and home. Bama fans are talking about our schedule. but you don’t play the top three team from the east. Bama does not play. South Carolina, UGA, NOR fLORIDA.

You can say that CMR has done good against the SEC west in his tenure
CMR record against teams from West the only team in the west CMR has a losing record against is LSU.
3-1 vs Bama
4-1 va Arkansas
3-1 vs Miss State
4-0 vs ole Miss
7-4 vs Auburn
3-4 vs LSU
This thing about the best teams in the West is Overrated.

Spurrier is no more scared of playing LSU than UGA is (but won’t) play Alabama. If UGA had played LSU and Arkansas last year – instead of the powder-puffs KY Jelly, Ole Misery, and Vandi-boy – SC would have one the East.
Until UGA plays AL and LSU in the regular season they need to quit barking.

Mizzoui will not be able to hang with Georgia for 4 quarters, nuff said. They will probably be able to move the ball some early in the game to make it interesting, but as the game wears on our front seven will grind down James Franklin. Georgia routs them in their “biggest game ever”, 45-17

Spurrier certainly isn’t afraid of Georgia. He never was while at Florida, and he still isn’t.
2011-Georgia
9/3 vs. Boise State (12-1) L 21 35
9/10 vs. *South Carolina (11-2) L 42 45
12/3 vs. *Louisiana State (13-1) L 10 42
1/2 vs. Michigan State (11-3) L 30 33

I would be willing to bet that:
1 If The State of Georgia lowered the legal drinking age to 18 as it should be then the arrest would all but disappear. When I was in school it was 18 because the case was made that if a kid was old enough to go into the military and fight and possibly die overseas then he was old enough to go into a bar and have a beer.
2 The SEC Commissioner set a standard for transparency that Georgia follows for all SEC schools with recruit reductions if that standard is violated.
Then there would be a level field for teams with problem players.
Just the facts

==========================
Unfortunately, Georgia’s attrition has little to do with their drug policy. They have arrest problems due to other issues: sexual assault, weapons, etc. Props for a strict drug policy, but there is a bigger cultural problem going on in Athens.
