Should UGA season ticket holders be satisfied with a diet of cupcakes?

georgia bulldog clubIf you’re a Georgia football season ticket holder and you haven’t made your annual contribution to the Hartman Fund, better get down to the post office, go online or get on the horn to the Georgia Bulldog Club offices in Athens, because today’s the deadline. You can find out all the details here.

Contributions sent via snail mail must be postmarked no later than Feb. 15.

Even if you’re not going for season tickets, a minimum $100 contribution to the Hartman Fund will get you a 2012 football ticket application and will make you eligible to request single-game tickets to five of the seven home games. With the Dawgs looking to open the season as possibly a Top 5 team, some folks might want to scramble aboard the bandwagon.

Then again, whether you can find five home games on Georgia’s 2012 schedule that you consider worth the cost of the ticket plus a contribution is another question.

Along those lines, I had a note from reader SavannahDawg, who was going ahead and making his contribution but was grumbling about the 2012 home schedule, which admittedly isn’t that exciting: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech.

He complained that “the cupcake portion of that schedule is particularly lame. If sticking to an eight-game conference schedule in the expanded SEC means we have to give up playing Auburn every year just so we can keep the likes of the Florida Atlantic Owls coming to Athens for a paycheck, I’m going to be seriously rethinking my commitment to buying season tickets every year. Better to make a smaller donation and get single games, or even cherry-pick the best games on StubHub. Even paying scalper’s prices for those games, it’ll end up costing me less than season tickets when you factor in the Hartman Fund.”

SavanahDawg makes a valid point and I’m wondering if the SEC athletic directors’ aversion to adding a ninth conference game might not end up costing them financially down the road in terms of getting fans in the stands.

What do you think? Would a schedule that kept the cupcakes and lost Auburn as an annual opponent make you any less likely to buy tickets to games at Sanford Stadium?

A win is a win, we’ll take them any way we can. If CLARKE CENTRAL moves up to DIV2 we can play them. We don’t want anything to do with CHARLTON COUNTY however.

For those dumb trolls from bama who think they own the state of GA in recruiting, and for those UGA fans that are dumb enough to believe it, here is a break down from the last 7 years of where the top 10 GA recruits went. (Top 10 determined by Bama’s precious rivals site)

Georgia-31
Florida State- 6
Alabama- 4
Auburn- 4
Tennessee- 4
Florida- 3
Southern California- 3
Miami (Fl)- 3
Georgia Tech- 3 (Ha!)
Notre Dame- 2
Michigan- 1
South Carolina- 1
Ohio State- 1
Stanford- 1
North Carolina- 1
Louisiana State- 1
Oklahoma- 1

@13-1 yea wow bama really gets all the top talent in GA dont they

Since when is 4 better than 31???? hahahaha moron

Ohio State will be back up soon and Clemson will play out the next season better I think but I think we do need more, high profile away games.

There is absolutely nothing like watching an SEC Team go to the west coast to play USC or Oregon.
Or go to the southwest and play Texas or to ND in South Bend or Ann Arbor to play Michigan during regular season.

Surely one or two of those games a year couldn’t hurt a good SEC Team (not that we are right now) and the return in visibility and respect would be ten fold.

Just my opinion though.

No SEC could add 2 of them. Yes doing maybe one of this big team every 5 years would be ok, but you cant expect any top SEC team to stop scheduling the cup cakes while other teams still do it. No one will put themselves at a disadvantage like that.

Yes one team might do more frequently than the rest but then they will go years without it. UGA used to do it every year pretty much and it hurt us while everyone else was playing a cupcake. We are finally on the same page with everyone else and now fans want to complain about us evening the playing field. Just blows my mind that ppl cant understand this. Or understand how much these games mean to those cupcakes, especially the money for their programs. We stop scheduling them and a lot of the smaller programs would go under and have to close their doors.

That may be TDF but last season was the first time in a decade I believe for a non sellout in Athens.

I believe there will be more of that to come and therefore scheduling cupcakes will hurt us in the long run.

All the soft schedule means is that UGA will be stuck with CMR for another 5 years. He’s done well, but the 9/10 wins/season isn’t enough for Dawg fans. If UGA wants more, CMR isn’t the answer.

I haven’t been to a home game in years. Adams destroyed tailgaiting which was a huge part of game day. He sent us into the parking decks, and now you can’t even get into the damned decks.
Sorry to say, but Georgia football is something that is a TV event only. Adams, who has never tailgaited in his life, has destroyed everything that was part of UGA football tradition.

LSU seemed to do pretty well with the toughest schedule in the country last year. UGA does not have enough depth on the OL to be successful without a few cupcakes. Georgia lost three games because their OL was done half way through the 3rd quarter and they could not play consistently on offense. They have enough bodies now but they are very young on the OL. I do think that two cupcakes a year should be enough. Tech is more than a cupcake and does require some effort to beat and because of Tech’s chop blocking UGA has had some injuries ( Tyson) this year.

TDF…Saban won the MNC in his fourth season at LSU and his third and fifth seasons at Bama. Bama was 6-7 before he got there, 7-6 his first year. That’s a coach.
Les Miles won it in his third season at LSU. Mack Brown in his seventh at UT.
Urban Meyer won it in his second and fourth seasons at UF. And he came from freaking Utah. Watch for one from OSU in the very near future. Your small handful are right in your back yard.
I am sure you, like many UGA fans, were selling CMR stock prior to the 2011 season. UGA won the east, but they were the second best team in the east. SC 5-0 UGA 4-1 in the division. Anyway, if you’re happy, that’s all that counts.

UGa’s biggest problem is Richt and Bobo don’t have enough sack to fill Yonculan’s jock strap.

Suzanne Yoculan interview:
I don’t mind being the Darth Vader team of the SEC. In fact, 10 years ago we made the decision to just embrace that Darth Vader image, and we wear black everywhere we go on the road. We’re an aggressive, confident team. That’s our style. That’s my style. I like enthusiasm. I like excitement. We’ve won a lot of championships because of that.

We’re like Steve Spurrier vs. Georgia. No one in Georgia likes Spurrier because he beats us a lot. (PWD: Inferring that no one in Bama likes them b/c they never beat Georgia anymore).

I have never had a girl transfer away from Georgia in my entire career. What other coach in any sport at any school can say that?
