Should UGA season ticket holders be satisfied with a diet of cupcakes?

georgia bulldog clubIf you’re a Georgia football season ticket holder and you haven’t made your annual contribution to the Hartman Fund, better get down to the post office, go online or get on the horn to the Georgia Bulldog Club offices in Athens, because today’s the deadline. You can find out all the details here.

Contributions sent via snail mail must be postmarked no later than Feb. 15.

Even if you’re not going for season tickets, a minimum $100 contribution to the Hartman Fund will get you a 2012 football ticket application and will make you eligible to request single-game tickets to five of the seven home games. With the Dawgs looking to open the season as possibly a Top 5 team, some folks might want to scramble aboard the bandwagon.

Then again, whether you can find five home games on Georgia’s 2012 schedule that you consider worth the cost of the ticket plus a contribution is another question.

Along those lines, I had a note from reader SavannahDawg, who was going ahead and making his contribution but was grumbling about the 2012 home schedule, which admittedly isn’t that exciting: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech.

He complained that “the cupcake portion of that schedule is particularly lame. If sticking to an eight-game conference schedule in the expanded SEC means we have to give up playing Auburn every year just so we can keep the likes of the Florida Atlantic Owls coming to Athens for a paycheck, I’m going to be seriously rethinking my commitment to buying season tickets every year. Better to make a smaller donation and get single games, or even cherry-pick the best games on StubHub. Even paying scalper’s prices for those games, it’ll end up costing me less than season tickets when you factor in the Hartman Fund.”

SavanahDawg makes a valid point and I’m wondering if the SEC athletic directors’ aversion to adding a ninth conference game might not end up costing them financially down the road in terms of getting fans in the stands.

What do you think? Would a schedule that kept the cupcakes and lost Auburn as an annual opponent make you any less likely to buy tickets to games at Sanford Stadium?

Pitiful is all that I can say. Do you guys really want to compete in the SEC? Not much from you in 30+ years. Yes, a little elevation in the program but not much. Florida owns you and when was the last time you even competed in big time games. You tried the blackout and Bama stole your manhood and your women and a ton of recruits. You stomped on the field in jacksonville like a bunch of kids but Florida still owns you and will start the annual beat down again this year. Just Pathetic!!!

EastBeast–You are right on with your comments that alot of knuckleheads on here does not understand. Dawgs playn at Florida every year plus plays home and home with Tech. If a 9th SEC game added would eliminate ever playong Clemson or Ohio State which is curretnly scheduled to be a home and home.

To make it clear who would like to play 3 home SEC games one year and 6 on the road. All SEC games have 3 cupcakes scheduled and if you don’t want to pay the price, then I know many waiting for those season tickets if you give them up.

But as Beast said either give up the Tech game or play Florida home and home only solution.

Forgot to add see there are a number of classless, loudmouth Bammers on here again today. Man those guys or obsessed with the Dawgs, not sure if it’s fear, envy, or just stupidity.

Too bad Bammer will not make the SEC championship game again next year, cause the Dawgs would shut them up for a year.

Lakedawg,

As an SEC fan give Bama their due credit and respect for doing something we’ve not come close to doing under Richt. Saban may not be the most likeable guy around but he can COACH SEC FOOTBALL AND WIN BCS TITLES.

I wish our staff could do half as well as Saban has done.

Dropped on of my tickets. I had trouble finding two folks to go with me last year, and I didn’t feel like next season’s schedule would improve that at all.

So I’m down to two tix. I’m sure The Hartman Fund will be calling me. My 3 seats are at the end of a row, so they are going to be left with a spare.

I love the dawgs and have been a season ticket holder since 1983 but after 28 years I will watch the games worth seeing on TV. The $800 contribution plus $500 for tickets or $1300 for 2 tickets to 4 games worth watching is one thing. The impossible parking is one thing. The $5.00 cup of ice and $3.00 for a bottle of water to pour in the ice is one thing. Missing 1/2 a quarter to get that $8.00 water is one thing. The fact that after 28 years of loyalty and $14,500 in contributions, you get nose bleed at Florida for the first time in 28 years since corporate contributions rule the day is one thing. The fact that if we get a good bowl or sec championship, decent tickets are best purchased on ebay or stub hub is one thing. My basement big screen and high defintion with air-conditioning, a restroom, and full bar is one thing. Somebody will be happy with section 107–row 16–48 yard line. I still love the dawgs.

I gave up my club level season tickets two seasons ago after having them for several decades because of the worthless cupcake games on the home schedule….and it seems to be getting worse rather than better. It has been a whole lot better simply buying tickets for the 1 or 2 games anyone would care to see than spending a couple grand on the season tickets…and it frees up a lot of nice fall weekends!

I thought the easy weeks of the schedule were the ones we schedule BYE. Every other week we should strap up and play hard and try to get better. If anyone that is an ad, coach or player doesn’t agree they should move on somewhwere else.

Pay two of the cupcakes their fee but let nothing stop the annual game with Auburn. One tuneup to begin the year is enough. You lose Auburn there’s going to be all kinds of fallout, you might be able to get an easy ticket because no one will care. Here’s to playing second halves like first halves next year.

I swear on my father’s grave that this is true.
In 1992 I had my ACT scores sent to Alabama as one of the schools I selected when taking the test.

A month later I received a pre-approved application in the mail with a dorm application included.

They’d never seen my grades, and while pretty good, my ACT score didn’t get me in the newspaper or anything. Damndest thing ever happen to me scholastically.

This is WHY Alabama is ranked the # 2 recruiting class in the nation, and why UGA is ranked # 14. That the state of Georgia is better for recruiting than the state of Alabama; and, Alabama sure didn’t sign any players from our state, now did they nimrod TDF ?

5 Georgia players signed from Georgia of 4-Stars or more.

Alabama sure does not recruit anyone from the state of Georgia TDF.

* All these players in the state of Georgia were offered a scholarship by Mark Richt.*
7 of the 8 Kirby Smart and Nick Saban out-recruited Mark Richt in the state of Georgia on. The only 1 of the 8 from the state of Georgia Alabama signed this 2012 season with 4-Stars or more, considered the among the best in the nation by both Scout.com and Rivals, whom Mark Richt did NOT recruit was the # 13 TE in the Nation Kurt Freitag of Buford High School, whom Florida recruited, Alabama recruited, South Carolina recruited, Clemson, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State recruited, Illinois recruited, Kentucky, Miami of Florida, Mississippi State recruited, and Florida recruited. All these schools offered the # 14 TE in the nation out of Buford High School Kurt Freitag a Scholarship, but Mark Richt did not – having LOST 2 Tight Ends, both gone from last year’s UGA squad, both of whom STARTED here at UGA for Mark Richt, Aron White TE and Orson Charles TE. But, Mark Richt did not offer Kurt Freitag # 13 TE in the nation Buford High School. So, Florida and Alabama both had him visit, but Mark Richt did NOT.

Kirby Smart also recruited the # 1 athlete in the nation according to Rivals.com Eddie Williams, whom Mark Richt ALSO offered a scholarship too.

Well ole Bill went down to Jiffy Lube to get the opinion of his buddies and then reports it as news. I see Bill is back to his old ways. Actually the problem with this year’s schedule is timing more than cupcakes. Ole Miss is down but often this is a big game. Tennessee is down but this is often a season defining game. Vanderbilt is usually a cupcake game but they are on the rise and the James Franklin-Todd Grantham thing makes this game more interesting than usual. Tech is Tech. Georgia Southern is a bit more intriguing than the typical cupcake game. You can’t do much with Buffalo or Florida Atlantic but five of the seven games are intriguing. To the complainers—-you were the same one’s crying when we lose at Ok. State and Colorado and come home after the ASU trip and lay an egg. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Hello, wake up and smell the coffee. Everone schedules cupcakes simply because the SEC team are not always an easy task. UGA schedule maybe a bit down this year but it want be that way always. So my advice to ticket holders is go with what we have because some teams coming in ib the future you will want to see and that my friend is worth the cost of the season. Please don’t blow your season tickets on one season’s schedule. It will get better and trust me you will want to be there.

I not a judge or jury and I don’t pass judgment down on anyone. But, with that said and that aside I think some of these young ladies chasing these high profile athletes need to learn what the word “NO” means. These athletics are trying to make it in the world of pro athletic and some time this eye candy get in the way and troubles some young ladies more than others. They can’t seem to understand that there are times when space is needed by the athletic. If you don’t have the time to wait and see on your man then WALK AWAY. Please don’t HURT his chances.

I have been buying tickets for over fifty years and sitting in the same seats for over 40 years but I dropped them this year because the schedule is pitiful and hass been for a while and I can cherry pick games and pay less. There have been several games a year that the tickets went unused so I am saying adios because I am tired of the 3 or 4 weeks in a row of games with several cupcakes and then several weeks away. It has become a big commitment that I have grown tired of. GODAWGS!!!!

If the rest of the SEC plays cupcakes then we will too. Its how it works. (You clearly know way less than I thought) In 2013 Clemson jumps on the schedule and we will have 10 BCS teams on our schedule that year and 2014. Also from 2013-2018 the big 3 from the west roll on our schedule.

Recruits dont want to play these cupcakes??? hahahaha. Not really bc they realize that playing in the SEC is tough, and every team needs these cupcakes to get healthy and ready for the next SEC game. Ask any current player, they will tell you the same thing. They are neccessary, and good for the others schools programs to get the extra money. No one minds them but whinny fans like you.

A buddy from up East asked me a great question a couple of weeks ago.., “Why is it that UGA never seems to travel to any serious out of state universities like Oregon, USC, U Tex, UO, ND (ha!), Michigan, Michigan State, etc?”

I know this is off subject from this article a bit but if someone can give me an unbiased, rational answer I’d appreciate it. Clearly The SEC is overall the tougher conference but an away game at Oregon, Texas, USC, etc. would give The Dawgs more respect than Coastal Carolina at home.
