If you’re a Georgia football season ticket holder and you haven’t made your annual contribution to the Hartman Fund, better get down to the post office, go online or get on the horn to the Georgia Bulldog Club offices in Athens, because today’s the deadline. You can find out all the details here.
Contributions sent via snail mail must be postmarked no later than Feb. 15.
Even if you’re not going for season tickets, a minimum $100 contribution to the Hartman Fund will get you a 2012 football ticket application and will make you eligible to request single-game tickets to five of the seven home games. With the Dawgs looking to open the season as possibly a Top 5 team, some folks might want to scramble aboard the bandwagon.
Then again, whether you can find five home games on Georgia’s 2012 schedule that you consider worth the cost of the ticket plus a contribution is another question.
Along those lines, I had a note from reader SavannahDawg, who was going ahead and making his contribution but was grumbling about the 2012 home schedule, which admittedly isn’t that exciting: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech.
He complained that “the cupcake portion of that schedule is particularly lame. If sticking to an eight-game conference schedule in the expanded SEC means we have to give up playing Auburn every year just so we can keep the likes of the Florida Atlantic Owls coming to Athens for a paycheck, I’m going to be seriously rethinking my commitment to buying season tickets every year. Better to make a smaller donation and get single games, or even cherry-pick the best games on StubHub. Even paying scalper’s prices for those games, it’ll end up costing me less than season tickets when you factor in the Hartman Fund.”
SavanahDawg makes a valid point and I’m wondering if the SEC athletic directors’ aversion to adding a ninth conference game might not end up costing them financially down the road in terms of getting fans in the stands.
What do you think? Would a schedule that kept the cupcakes and lost Auburn as an annual opponent make you any less likely to buy tickets to games at Sanford Stadium?

Isn’t your shift at Tire Kingdom just about over for today? You better run along. You don’t want to be late for your remedial English class at night school. Remember, your GED is dependent upon successful completion of the class. Not to mention the fifty cents per hour raise your boss will give you when you graduate.

Actually thats just based off the fact you barely had an offense this past year and now the biggest contributor of that crappy offense is gone. You also lost some of your best defenders. Bama will slide back down to second tier his year just like 2010. Enjoy it!!

Also, please stop using the word “handel” in your posts. Every time I see that word it rminds me of the “Hallelujah” chorus from Handel’s “Messiah”. Good thing you do not use any reference to Beethoven or else everyone would be hearing his Fifth Symphony playing in their heads.

I came within an eyelash of not renewing my 8 season tickets this year. It was a big decision not made until Dec 31. It may be the next year I stop but it’s coming soon if the situation doesn’t get better. Watching a disinterested coach play Buffalo is not worth even a fraction of the cost. Our c team is likely more competition. We now have a athletic director that thinks this is great. Not impressed with this guy.

you have no offense. You run one that a middle schooler could play QB for you. Its 3 step drop slant pass. Bama babies their QBs bc they have no talent. So yes besides TR you had nothing on offense.
And now that tR is gone you will be even worse on offense and unfortunately for you it will result in around 3 losses this season and finsihing 3rd in the west.
FYI I didnt watch it like most of America bc no one wants to watch a game they already had seen. BCS screwed the pooch on this one and could cost them their contract if NCAA decides to let someone else run the playoffs!

Thomas Brown was working with Mark Richt to expand educational opportunities for student-athletes at UGA. That is, he tried to encourage players to think of a potential career after football and not just choose the easiest major. The Augusta newspaper had a very nice article about it. I would tell this on the appropriate blog, but Chip Towers has banned me.
UTC, even though it is a public university (UT system), it has a private school endowment. They are like the McEachern High School of small universities and have invested much in their facilities.

Bama’s offense will actually be better than this past year even with the loss of TR. I think any Bama fan will agree with that statement. You can dispute that all you want but trust me when I say the numbers will back it up. Oh and losing the QB to tech, believe me when I say he would have never played QB for us. He is much better off at tech where he might actually play.

If I’m not mistaken, the Buffalo game is a replacement for the
Louisville home & home, cancelled to play Boise State. Florida
Atlantic is definitely a joke, but the Georgia Southern game is a 4
year committment that I’m very pleased with. In 2008, there were
around 120,000 requests for tickets and they scored more points
on Alabama than anyone in 2011. That team can compete at the
BCS level, beleive me.

Here’s the deal:
Nuetral site game in Jax (UF/UGA) every year means you have one less home game every other year.
In-state rivalry game (UF/FSU and UGA/GT) that is an OOC game means one less home game every other year.
Those are the reasons you have to schedule “cupcakes”. You won’t get any major program to come to Athens or Gainesville without a return trip and the schools won’t give up the revunue of even one home game. It’s just way too much money. No other SEC schools have to face these 2 issues other than UF and UGA.
The only way to solve this on a permanent basis is to either move the UF/UGA from Jax and play it as a home and home or to cancel the annual UF/FSU and UGA/GT games. It’s just that simple. Which do you prefer….lose some serious traditional rivalries/venues or keep it the way it is?

I think something should be done. It’s pathetic to have all those cupcake games. We already get 2-3 a year from the SEC with KY, Vandy, Ole Miss, etc. I don’t mind one or two, but it’s pathetic we pay that kind of money as contributors for these games.
As for the guy that wants to know if we want Boise St back. Heck yeah, if it’s in ATHENS or a home/home deal. Going to the Dome was a joke. Way to alienate UGA donors by letting me sit a mile away at the dome while I have good seats in Athens for Boise St.
The ONLY good think about cupcake games is that they are typically at 1PM and it’s a great game to “miss” or bring young kids to. You can bring them to the game to see a show by UGA and be back home in time for dinner. That is a plus.
I think UGA should maybe change the ticket prices for the individual home games based on demand. You can still charge the aggregate of ($40/ticket for 7 games ($280 per season ticket), but make the Vandy games $20 and the Auburn & Tech, etc. more than $40, etc.).

Haven’t been to a UGA game in years as I live in Texas but…….I watched most of UGA games (high profile games) Boise, SC, Tenn, FLA..ect on TV……………the cupcake games are not usually televised……..I guess with this years cup cake schedule I won’t get to see as many games…..wonder how that works for the tv revenue? Seems like a nationally televised game say verses Arizona St would bring in alot more money than Buffalo?
I love UGA football but I can’t see myself getting real excited over the cupcakes…..the pre-game cook-out just isn’t the same when we play a team like Buffalo vs a Boise St.

TDF,
You are one delusional person that gives the rest of our fan base a horrible name. People like you that keep talking like you do can not back up your remarks. I can’t believe I am even having this discussion with another fan of the same team, but your argument is pathetic and as off base as one could be. We could sign the best player in our state for the next 100 years, but if the results don’t eventually bring a title, and another school comes in and recruits Georgia and wins National Titles, then they are getting the better players and evaluating better. Run your yapper and post as many times as you want, but clearly you need an education in football, recruiting, and need to get a life, because facts are facts. All of these Top 10 classes haven’t produced near as much as the other SEC schools that have in the same time period, so once again your lame opinion is flat.

UGA can’t beat anybody worth a sheet and it’s documented. How do you think the rest of the sports teams other than BB get paid for each year? Those 4 home games are needed to balance the checkbook but I understand you’re from UGA thus the stupid part is to be overlooked. Leave Alabama out of your weak azz schedule argument. At least we played Clemson, Va Tech,Penn State and Mitchegun in 2012. Besides you don’t even play the good teams in the SEC and if you did you would have never made it this last year. Hell , you need the Hogs to beat USCe just to get in in 2011. Pitiful is UGA.

It’s sad when you get into arguments with members of your own fan base, but all of this chest thumping over results we never achieved are uncalled for and make all of us sound like idiots. When he says “we’ll play a tougher schedule when the rest of the SEC does”, it just shows he’s weak and wants to win against sub .500 teams and back our way in instead of earning it. We will get jumped every time in the final week with this kind of schedule. No recruit wants a schedule filled with Buffalo, Southern university, and Florida Atlantic where we have to upgrade to the Deluxe cable package and be ready at 12 every week. They want CBS 3:30 and ABC/ESPN 8:00 PM against Oregon, USC, Clemson, etc.
