Keep talking Dawgs!

A personal note: Many of you will recall my writing about my Dad, who raised me as a Georgia Bulldog from as early as I can remember, sent all three of his sons to the University of Georgia, and who, even at the age of 89, has continued to wear his collection of UGA caps proudly.classic uga logo

Well, I’m sorry to report that Dad is in failing health in Athens and I’m shuttling back and forth between there and Atlanta, so my blogging this week may be less frequent. I appreciate your understanding and your good thoughts and prayers.

Even if there isn’t a new posting here, feel free to continue discussing the Dawgs in the comments, but please keep it clean and civil. Thanks.

Here’s something to chew on, UGA fans:

“UGA had Graham Shuler, a 4-star OL out of Tennessee in for an official visit on Sunday and Monday this week.

This all happened VERY quickly. The call went to Shuler on Sunday and he was there later that day.

He loved it in Athens.

Shuler said, “I love Coach Richt and he would be a great guy to play for. I love the southern feel at Georgia, and I had a great visit to Georgia.”

The 6-5/280 OL is currently committed to Stanford and he has informed Stanford coaches about his visit and he is now contemplating having an in-home visit with the UGA staff later this week. He is currently out of town on a school trip, but this in-home visit may happen still.”

106-38 is .7361 as reported where did you get .743 ?
106 divided by 144 = .7361 was only .7143 this season.
Mark Richt is not what you say he is, sir, is he ?

.7491 Joe Paterno coached during Mark Richt era,
why leave him out ? He did Better as a Coach with 2 NC
than Mark Richt in Mark Richt era, right ? 409-136-3.

Gene Chizik at Auburn has gone 30-10 with 1 NC. Again,
at Auburn he has done better than Mark Richt too, right ?
.7500 win percentage at Auburn with NC better than .7361

17 years ago Nick Saban has some pretty cruddy teams
for 4 years in a row there at Michigan State, count his
time in The SEC only and disregard 17 years ago and what
you have is 3 NC Nick Saban 0 Mark Richt, right ? In The SEC
Nick Saban is .75 Win % at LSU and .8209 at Alabama 3 NC
Nick Saban has been FAR better than Mark Richt at BOTH
LSU and Alabama than Mark Richt has been here, right ?
You can dream up whatever you want to dream up to make
Mark Richt “SOUND” better than Nick Saban. All anyone
will do is to “LAUGH.”

Larry Coker at Miami of Florida went 60-15 for .80 Win %
1-A Football Coach. What Larry Coker did at Miami 2001
to 2006 is FAR superior to what Mark Richt has done here,
right ? Why exclude him ? He’s a coach today. He even
coached all the games at Miami during the Mark Richt era.
This is a Mark Richt Contemporary. Why leave him out ?
Are we trying to make the list as short as we can ? Or, are
we trying to determine just how good Mark Richt really is ?
Larry Coker won NC at Miami in 2001, Mark Richt lost to
Boston College etc in a 4-Loss season that year. Remember ?

Your List Does Not Have Mack Brown ?
Good Heavens. Where did you get your list of better coaches
than Mark Richt ? Mack Brown coached some really cruddy
teams at Appalachian State, Tulane and North Carolina 23
years ago. If you look at just what he has done at Texas,
and that is what Mark Richt is compared against with Mack
Brown, you find Mack Brown at Texas is .7833 Win % at Texas
again with 1 NC at 141-39. That is FAR superior at Texas
for Mack Brown than what Mark Richt has done here, right ?
Let’s try to limit the list of coaches BETTER than Mark
Richt so that we put up a list and don’t even list these
guys, all VERY CLEARLY FAR superior to Mark Richt
at Georgia, right ? That’s what we need to do. Act like
Mark Richt is a better football coach than Mack Brown
at Texas. Right. Everyone who has a NC, you want
to find a reason to not list, when Mark Richt has
Lost 9 games in a row vs teams ending AP top 25
Lost 7 games in a row vs teams ending AP top 10

Les Miles at LSU is FAR superior to Mark Richt at UGA,
right ? The Oklahoma State teams he coached were
horrendously poor teams. Let’s add those in to Les Miles
and compare those years in his totals, because by doing
that, maybe someone will not notice you left off
Les Miles off your list of BETTER coaches than
Mark Richt here at my alma mater. Les Miles is .8065
at LSU at 75-18. Or, put up a list and leave him off at
75-18 because it is arbitrarily less than 100 games at
LSU. Give me a break. Les Miles has been FAR
superior at LSU than Mark Richt here at UGA, FAR
superior. Correct ? 93 games ? Give me a break on
that as well. The facts are very clear that Les Miles
won a NC at LSU in his 3rd Season. Again, another
NC coach doing FAR better at LSU than Mark Richt
here and UGA and yeah, that’s it Mark Richt is a
BETTER coach than Les Miles. Right.

Jim Tressel only coached 1-A FBS at Ohio State .8103
again with 1 NC. 94-22 Jim Tressel Ohio State. That’s
2001 through last year 2010. That’s over 100 games,
but I am sure you will say 1st must be over 100 games
then say oh 116 is just barely over, all the games
during the Mark Richt era here at UGA. Or, say he
isn’t currently because he did not coach last year.
Pardon me, Jim Tressel during the Mark Richt era was
FAR superior to Mark Richt, right ?

Pete Carroll at Southern Cal coached from 2001 through
2009 seasons with 2 NC and was 83-19 for .8137 Win
Percentage as a college football coach. Oh, he’s in the
NFL now, so that makes Mark Richt BETTER than
Pete Carroll as a college football coach during the
Mark Richt era. Yeah, right. Or, 102 games is just
barely over 100 games, so he does not count on that count.
Step back. Ask yourself, is Mark Richt BETTER than
Pete Carroll as a college football coach ? Or, are you
simply trying purposely ONCE AGAIN TO LEAVE
OFF 2 NC COACH during Mark Richt era to make
it SOUND like Mark Richt is BETTER than Pete
Carroll ? There is no one who believes either that
Mark Richt is BETTER than Pete Carroll in the
Mark Richt era here for my beloved Bulldogs.
Call it like it is. Mark Richt is NOT a better coach
than Pete Carroll during the Mark Richt era, is he ?

Dana Holgorsen West Virginia went 10-3. Last time I
checked 10-3 is BETTER than 10-4. YOU SAID 1 year.
He coached that. He is BETTER than Mark Richt who is
not your LIE of .743 but actually .7361 again, you have
Mark Richt’s record right at 106-38 for 144 games 144
divided by 106 is .7361. Why say he is .743 and purport
to say to me for me to get MY FACTS STRAIGHT ?
I’ll look forward to your reply on this one too.

David Shaw Stanford. You said with 1 year experience.
David Shaw is 11-2 at Stanford for .8462 Win Percentage
then you left off David Shaw, too. Why ? Mark Richt
is NOWHERE NEAR .8462 Win %, therefore David
Shaw is FAR superior to 10-4 Mark Richt at .7143.
Admit that you left this one off too. Or, are you simply
setting up the rules to LIMIT THE LIST OF BETTER
COACHES THAN MARK RICHT IN THE MARK
RICHT ERA ?

Dave Doeren is 11-3. Last I checked that is YOUR
STATEMENT AT LEAST 1 YEAR COACHING.
11-3 is NOT BETTER than 10-4 ? Since when ? Dave
Doeren at Northern Illinois is 11-3 for .7857 and Mark
Richt at Georgia is .7361. I am sorry, but you said
you were correcting me for me to get my facts straight.
I believe you have incorrectly left off Dave Doeren
from YOUR LIST, haven’t you ? He ended up # 11
Total Offense and We ended up # 39 Total Offense.
We did not beat anyone who ended up top 25 in
any poll. So, why leave off Dave Doeren ? Another
mistake by you yet, again ?

Ok, so you’ve got Mark Richt listed at # 10 as
10th best college football coach in Mark Richt era
at Georgia.

You left off :

David Shaw
Pete Carroll
Dana Holgorsen
Dave Doeren
Jim Tressel
Les Miles
Mack Brown
Gene Chizik
Nick Saban
Larry Coker
Joe Paterno

That’s 11 more you left off.
Between the 11 BETTER coaches than Mark Richt
they have 12 National Championships.

How convenient a list of

BETTER COACHES THAN MARK RICHT DURING MARK RICHT ERA

Leave off whomever you want, and maybe no one will notice Mark Richt is
not # 10 best College Football Coach in the Mark Richt era. Mark Richt is # 21
college football coach, not top 10 by YOUR RULES FOR YOUR LIST, right ?

Mark Richt is not top 10 best college football coach and you KNOW IT.

Its more important to know where youre going then where you came from. God Bless your father and may his health improve.

Its pretty obvious that the way we see things at Georgia, CMR has a total view. The biggest issue that has plagued Georgia is the play calling of Mike Bobo. CMR will sink the entire ship before walking Mike Bobo out onto the plank and kick him off the ship.
CMR isnt the business man Saban at Alabama is. Saban 1st off wouldnt even consider making a QB’s coach into the OC because everyone has to work there way up.
Bobo and UGA has placed Georgia into dire straits the past 6 years thinking that having a winning season is all that matters and going to any bowl is the cherry on top of the ice cream.
I dont know who’s pulling the strings up there and have heard it was Vince Dooley, and this would make sense because he did want to get into politics one time.
But this i do know……………….. If a OC hasnt improved with his play calling and is one dimensional for the most part, hasnt beaten any top 10 teams in 3 or 4 years then its time to start thinking about replacing that person.
Youve had 3 years of soft schedules and maybe the coming year will be the easiest but you still do the samething with improving your offense. Its non existant! This goes all the way down to the OL Coach.
If your OL cant block or protect then it wont matter if you have the #1 RB and/or the #1 QB in the nation.
Bobo has become like a fungus at Georgia ……………. its starting to spread throughout the team now and if you dont get rid of it, then the whole team suffers.
CMR needs to let ppl ask him these questions instead of avoiding it. I want answers! I want to know why CMR keeps defending Bobo about his inefficiencies or lack thereof in being a non productive OC.
What does CMR plan to do about it and if not then why.
Coaches should never dictate what type of questions he will only answer because afterall CMR put himself in this position.
Wanna win a National Championship? Fire Bobo and spend the money to get a PROVEN OC, hire a Special Teams Coach, become more strict with your players w/o playing favorites, treat this as a business, quit playing politics.
If Vince Dooley and/or the Alumni are involved with Bobo not getting fired then shame on you for putting the state and its fan through this 7 year tribulation for personal gain.
Quit being ignorant and cheap because afterall you charge us alot of money to watch games, vending costs are out the roof, memoriabia is higher than it is at Beverly Hills, parking is atrocious, and tuition has sky rocketed to 1000% in the last 5 years.
Surely with all the profit you misers make, you could shed a few dollars and get a great OC and Special Teams Coach.
Look at Arthur Blank with the Falcons………….Mike Smith has put them into the playoffs consecutively but even with all that he could lose his job. Its a business folks and if you wanna make more revenue, then spend the money instead of making a coach pay bonuses to his coaching staff because Georgia is too cheap.

Anyone: I know of Clemons, Avery and the DB from Memphis. Who else is UGA going after? Who do they have a shot at getting?

Columbus Dawg

The nepotism concerning Bobo’s employment as OC at UGA has been uncovered, and is being talked about by many large Hartman Fund contributors, and some are expressing concern to the powers that be (for the moment), and the Atheletic Board. First, let’s address predictability. The pro style offense that UGA employs is exactly what most NFL teams use, as well as teams like Bama. The success of this offense relies on a strong OL, and adequate runners. We all know that these are the two biggest problems. From what I am hearing Richt has been handed some mandates to go along with his contract extension, not mandates such as “You must win this or that or else”, but more to the tune of “We expect the glaring fundamental problems of recent years to get fixed”. Special teams, running game, and overall OL performance, as well as a new found respect for the football, especially at the QB position were all mentioned. More holes for the backs and another couple seconds of protection for Murray should make this offense run past the likes of Bama and LSU, who while playing lights out defense, are not exactly lighting it up on offense. Arkansas would arguably get the nod for best O in SEC for 2011, and there is no reason for the Dawgs not to rival their O in 2012 if the OL problems get fixed. As far as Murray finding more respect for the football, I believe that Richt will address this, and I believe that Bobo will play an important role in Murray’s improvement in this area. Look, UGA is going to be given another chance to prove it’s self again in 2012. ESPN, who after having a lot to do with UGA’s number 1 preseason ranking in 2008, will again be talking up the Dawgs. Murray is already at number 2 on an ESPN early watch list for Heisman in 2012. UGA simply can not embarrass it’s self again with the pundits. If UGA loses a hard fought game fair and square to a better or equal opponent, that’s one thing, but to give games away because of the same old problems will not be tolerated going forward. Do not think for a minute that the disgruntled blog posters are the only ones that are on their case about the problems. McGarity will always be very vanilla in his interviews, and will always show supreme confidence in UGA’s coaching staff in public, but believe me the pressure is now on to get the program to a higher level. This will be Coach Friend’s first opportunity to open up the entire OL to competition for starters, and from what I am hearing, there will be all out competition for all five starting spots for 2012.

Also, I do not claim to have any info on the Commings situation, but if he is guilty as charged, then this will have to handled correctly as well, the program did extremely well in 2011 with arrests, Washington’s DUI not withstanding, and a return to pre 2011 levels in this area will not be tolerated either. All of this being said, I do believe that a stellar year is ahead, but a strong dedicated offseason will be an absolute must take place in order to achieve what is being mandated.

Now take off the Big East crap schools and the non AQ schools due to the FACT that non AQ schools dont play anyone, and big east is the worst conf in football.

Then you should have to factor in the FACT that the SEC is the best conference and give extra points to each SEC school on your list since they have to play harder schedules than any other conference in football.

So once again your list is nothing but garbage!!

I certainly hope that the poster from Columbus knows the score, as the only hope for the University of Georgia Football Program is for those above Mr. Richt to apply the thumbscrews, or for them to get us a coach.

Mark Richt has been a great disappointment, as I think most of us would agree. I would like to assume that folks knowing more about the situation than me (his bosses) believe him capable of vast improvement, but I have serious doubts that enough improvement will happen. I don’t think the man knows football well enough, or cares enough about football to get the job done.

Actually, I wonder if the powers that be – those above Mr. Richt’s level – have in mind the same objectives for our football program that most of us here have. If they do, why in the name of all that’s SEC football have they far ted around with our program for so many years?

Is Institutionalize Mediocrity the UGA goal?

Not even close to a dissapointment. All you have to do is look who was the DC during his era and you will understand. BVG had us at the top poised for a title run, then left and we got CWM who dropped us to the bottom. Now CTG is here and this will be year 3 with his defense and he already has us rising right back to the top again. That middle period of CWM forced us to start from scratch.

Extra points for playing in The SEC ? You mean like LSU 42 and South Carolina 42, the only 2 we played who ended up in the top 25 ? Michigan State 33 and Boise State 35 we get no extra points for losing to in your Christian system ?

TDF – Tech Dawg Fan, what happened to your blog ? Too technical for your engineering degrees to keep it current, so you run in here all day telling every Bulldog fan not exactly satisfied with

9 losses in a row to teams ending up top 25
7 losses in a row to teams ending up top 10

how we all should be satisfied instead ?

To Columbus and 1969 Graduate – You both make excellent points that are obviously well thought out and articulated here. I appreciate your constructive inputs. Go Dogs.
