UGA fans have visions of four- and five-star tailbacks dancing in our heads

Isaiah Crowell is talking the right talk. (Associated Press)

Coming back from a week’s vacation, there’s plenty to talk about, even if there thankfully wasn’t any major news in Athens amid the continuing coaching upheaval in the SEC, with South Carolina losing Ellis Johnson the latest development.

The rumor mill was working overtime about Mark Richt and Isaiah Crowell, but Richt’s not going anywhere despite the efforts of some folks in the media to send him to Texas A&M or Penn State.

And apparently Crowell isn’t going anywhere either, contrary to all those bulletin board sources, though he does find himself behind Boo Malcome on the depth chart heading into the Outback Bowl. Still, a little competition never hurt and it’s encouraging that Crowell is saying all the right things about needing to apply himself more and take more responsibility. Maybe he’s finally growing up.

There’s also been the usual wondering you normally get this time of year about which underclassmen will leave early for the NFL (with Orson Charles and Bacarri Rambo seeming the most likely) and which ones still want to play college ball (thank you, Jarvis Jones).

Plus, of course, speculation on whether backup quarterback Hutson Mason will transfer or take a redshirt year to give himself some class separation from starter Aaron Murray (I’m hoping he chooses the latter); Outback bowl tickets have been a hotter item in Athens than in East Lansing (not surprising); and we’ve learned that the ridiculous NCAA rule book doesn’t allow Richt to play Santa Claus with his staff unless he clears it first with the athletic administration.

A Twitter dream ... (Melchizedek Lockwood)

A Twitter dream ... (Melchizedek Lockwood)

Meanwhile, it might not have been visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads, but after his visit to Athens four-star running back prospect Mike Davis tweeting that “IV Horsemen” picture of him along with Crowell, UGA five-star commitment Keith Marshall and fellow four-star prospect Todd Gurley certainly had Dogs fans dreaming of big things happening in the running game.

How about a Dream Tailback Corps this year?

Correctt, Leak, the senior QB who some said would win 2 Heismans.

And Tim Tebow made major contributions to that team, without whom, they don’t win those razor thin games that got them there.

Avery Young is now the #1 target due to need at OT. Ellis Johnson leaving S. Carolina is a big blow to Spurrier, especially during recruiting time. UGA should not sign more than two RB’s this year. Instead, they should go after two more OL.

The biggest problem with UGA is the culture of excuse-makers as represented by the folks on this board. You have so many excuses you couldn’t fit them all in Santa’s huge bag. Everybody else cheats, ESPN is against us, we don’t get any breaks, the refs are against us, the NCAA is against us, blah blah blah blah blah!!!

Get over it. No one is against us. And no one can create a culture of excellence except for us.

Whatever, AltamahaDawg, the fact is they DID have Tebow and Meyer DID win a NC in his 2nd season and won another one in his short tenure there.

Richt had Matt Stafford, the #1 overall NFL draft pick, and Knowshown (”Run out of bounds like a sissy”) Moreno, the #13 overall pick in the same NFL draft, and a host of other talent, recognized by many as the pre-season #1 team, and he managed to squander that in a horribly disappointing season.

Meyer would have won 3 NC’s with a talent like Stafford at QB.

Damn how exasperating some of you people are. Mark Richt’s a damn-good coach and makes me proud to be a Georgia Bulldog everyday. Your ‘big, rich, arrogant’ Columbus boosters be damned…what is it about money that makes people think they can buy any damn thing they want and to hell with everybody else? And to ‘bobo’s not the problem’ – are you serious? You want that ‘I’m a man’ weinie at OK State? Surely not, and seems to me Cheeze-it and Miles weren’t over-acheiving before they got their current jobs.

Richt’s our coach and will be our coach, so either get on board or take your support elsewhere…we don’t need or want those that feel the need to carp about every play, and every decision that they don’t happen to agree with.

I am NOT on board with Richt and never will be. He has proven to be an “almost good enough” coach and a nice guy who somehow turns out thugs on his team with arrest records. Somehow, that’s supposedly adding to the credibility of our program, but I’m not sure how.

I support UGA. I demand excellence. I want a coach who will bring us a NC.

Not a nice guy.

So Moreno was a sissy , but we should have won a NC with him that year. Got it.

And no. No Meyer would not have won a NC with our 2008 team. Pure BS. We had no line on either side and barely enough LB depth to field a starting lineup, much less a punt return team. Meyer proves to us what HE did with a lot of injuries and few great players. A couple of times. Remember? (hint, he damn sure didnt win 10 games)

huh? Who were we supposed to play? True Freshmen Aaron Murray? Cox wasn’t perfect, but he had one of the best seasons stat wise of any other QB’s at Georgia. Our problem that year was defense. In fact, that was when it was really starting to rear it’s ugly head.

Bobo is Not the Problem

Moreno was a sissy BECAUSE RICHT LET HIM BE ONE. Richt appears to care more about churning out NFL prospects than winning in college. No way should No-show be allowed to take the prima donna attitude of preserving himself for the NFL. But Richt coddled him and condoned that attitude IMO.

I could certainbly make a MUCH more compelling case that Tebow was instrumental in 2006, than you could make that Meyer would win a NC without an offensive or a defensive line.

I knew the excuses would come flying, Cox sucked, anyone would have been better. Passing stats were good because the defense sucked? More excuses…WM…he sucked…more excuses. Guys, had AM played then, maybe he would have beat a legit team by now. Having said all that. I looked forward to next year, I do think UGA will be a top 10 team. They do have a weak schedule, I’m not a blind follower, the key will be SC, because of Spurrier, not Lattimore, Florida, not because of their coaches, or recruits jumping ship, it’s because they are Florida and they have had our number. Then their is that SEC Championship game. Go Dawgs.

and NO, they are’nt going to Run Murray, or the walk ons, as much as Crowell, or Kalvin Daniels as much as Moreno.

04, 05, 07, (till Brown got hurt) , 09, ALL year where the talent was fairly close, as was the carries. Other year it was not.

Still@theKool-aidBAR

I said when not due to injury. The Injury years were where more backs got fewer carriers. Without injuries Bobo and Richt give 1 RB the carries. Notice how much Murry runs too. I know it is because the NFL sized O-Line UGa has sucks, but it shows even more Pass Attempts that failed so Murray had to run. those 4 RB’s would be Stupid to go to UGA because 1 will become the coach’s favorite. It happens EVERY TIME.
