Isaiah Crowell disappointed many fans and yet still was SEC freshman of the year. (Associated Press)
The shift in UGA fan support away from Isaiah Crowell and toward Keith Marshall has been swift and decisive, at least online.
But I really don’t understand some folks’ penchant for viewing Georgia’s tailback situation next year as an either-or proposition where Marshall, the new golden boy, supplants Crowell, the disappointing former favorite.
Let’s keep some perspective here. Yes, the injury-prone Crowell rubbed many the wrong way to start with this season by frequently taking himself out of games after a couple of runs. Then there was the immaturity that manifested itself in a couple of suspensions.
And there definitely seems to be a bit of an attitude problem, evident when we saw Crowell turn his back on his head coach in the middle of a dressing down for drawing a penalty with his mouthing off during the SEC championship game. That’s something even the ever-patient Mark Richt shouldn’t tolerate.
But Crowell still ran well enough this season to be the SEC’s freshman of the year and the Dogs would not have 10 wins without him.

Keith Marshall says he'll enroll at UGA in January. (Associated Press)
More importantly, Georgia will need to utilize the talents of both Crowell and Marshall next season and probably Richard Samuel, Boo Malcome and any other running back who is still on the roster.
LSU and its four-headed running attack is a prime example of what a successful SEC offense needs these days. Tailbacks get hurt; it’s just part of the game. If the talent gap between your starter and the backups is as stark as it was at Georgia this year, it puts you at a severe disadvantage (unless you’re playing Georgia Tech).
I believe Marshall competing with Crowell for playing time could be the best thing that has happened to Isaiah at UGA. But whichever one ends up the starter (and my money would be on a healthy Crowell), there’ll be plenty of carries for the other one. And if they’re both living up to their potential, well, Alabama didn’t do so badly splitting time between Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson.
Georgia signing the nation’s most wanted tailback two years in a row will be quite an accomplishment, but it shouldn’t be a rarity. You can never have too many good tailbacks in the SEC and Richt and his staff should be signing a five-star running back every season.
Go Dogs!

People need to get off of Crowell’s back, up until this year most incoming freshman were getting redshirted probably for maturity and growth. This year was different and helped out in a big way. The kid is good on the football field no matter how you look at it when healthy. Some people need to just stop and look in the mirror before they start throwing all those rocks.

Georgia appears to be getting its team first attitude back. These RB’s need to look back a few years. Remember having Kregg Lumpkin, Danny Ware, Mr. Brown together? Remember how our second and third sting RB’s like Olandis Gary, Terrell Davis, etc. got drafted and had successful careers. Work hard, take your best to the field, and scouts will notice. Your work will show on the field and at the combine.

This kid is an upset. I can deal with injuries, as they are a part of the game. I cannot deal with immaturity and attitude issues. When i was at the SEC championship game last week, it was very clear that this kid is a PROBLEM. He did not put ANY effort in during warm ups and was constantly taking breaks, EVEN DURING WARM UPS. Also, from what I understand, Mr. Crowell has missed quite a few classes in the past weeks. I am betting we have some upcoming eligibility issues.

Comparing those pip squeaks (Crowell and Marshall) to beasts like Ingram and Richardson is laughable. And it is amazing how all of last year all you wanted was one back to step up and be the man like Lattimore and Hershel used to be. Now you are saying that the four back approach used by LSU is the way to go. Geeze. It’s all about the flavor of the week with you.
Georgia will learn one day to recruit good kids that want to work hard and “be the man” rather than use Rivals’ star system as the end all be all to their recruitment. Will see how Marshall pans out, but none of the SEC is too worried. Ya’lls recent track record with highly-rated backs speaks for itself. Moreno was the only back in the last 10 years that was of any note and he came from New Jersey and did it on ability alone. He overcame UGA coaching and S&C to be a good back.
Anywhoo – best of luck to you’s guys. I am turning my back on you now as you start to give me my verbal dress down.

Bill,
There has been much confusion it appears over Crowell’s “injuries” . Dings and pains are not necessarily “injuries”. Many footballers not just RBs play with dins , pains and have since the game began. Crowell has proven him self to be a bit on the soft side. From my experience many years ago, it’s a state of mind and all the physical condition won’t get him over it. He’s got to accept it psychologically. He hasn’t missed any games or playing time from “injuries”. Hopefully, you bloggers and writers will point that out.
That said, I like the rest of the free world recognizes the abundance of talent IC possesses. And I, like the rest of the world hopes that he gets his head on straight and grows out of his immaturity. Time is a wasting.
Marshall is going to make a great compliment no matter who is on the roster next year.

uit stirring the pot Bill. Not certain that your pereception that majority of UGA fans turned their backs on IC is accurate. I read the blogs and and a heck of a lot of UGA fans have offered support for this 18 year old kid. Do you have IC’s medical records to know exactly what was ailing him. Maybe he is a lot tougher than some of you think. Also your vcomments about him turning his back on CMR are simply sensationalizing a small event that you quite frankly have no knowledge of. Have you interviewed CMR to know what was said during the exchange? Easy for a bunch of old farts to put this kid down but you should quit. He is a Bulldog and as long as he is I will stand up for him. Let’s not crucify our own. I trust CMR to handle IC. He needs to grow up but we all did at 18. I agree that KM and IC will be good for each other and … GLAD TO HAVE YOU AS PART OF THE BULLDOG FAMILY MR> MARSHALL!!! I am a Dawg and I will stand up for you if ever I am needed. GO DAWGS!

The BEST part of this scenario is the Marshall is an early enrollee and will get to practice with the team this Spring. I haven’t been too upset with Crowell. The cupboard was/is bare at the RB position, and we asked an 18 year old kid to take the FULL load. Our expectations need to be tempered with reality folks. Freshmen can’t be the sole RB on an SEC team. We’re getting better, and after this season, that’s really exciting to think about!

I don’t see what the big problem is with Crowell…. Listen most 18 year old’s that I know are pretty immature, heck most adults I know are immature. He played very well… He admits he did not come in and get in shape like he should have… I believe that will change with a full season of off season workouts… This guy is a player and I agree Marshall helps with depth and adds a different weapon..

I love the fact that Georgia has more leverage to hold Crowell accountable with the addition on Marshall. Ealey couldn’t get his act together and having Crowell on board made it more feasible to show Ealey the door. Personally, I’m pulling hard for IC to get his act together. and I think the offseason competition with Marshall can help as well. However, if he continues to be an “energy vampire”, he and Ealey would make a great 1-2 punch at Jax State.

Rather than look at Marshall as Crowell’s replacement, I prefer to view him as a solid addition to a position of need. Now, if we can add some solid offensive linemen, a successful field goal kicker, and figure out punt coverages, maybe we can continue to improve, and hopefully have some “dream” seasons.

Posted on Schultz blog that the three-four backs working together give UGA a boost at RB. Samuels having a full offseason at RB gives UGA a power back along with Malcome. Crowell gives UGA the combo of Power and Speed while Marshall will come in and give them the Speed impact at the position initially. UGA heading into 2012 looks primed to have RB as a strength for the team.

I hope you are right about this motivating IC. Based on what we have seen so far from Crowell, Malcome, and Thomas it seems pretty far fetched to believe all of them will be back next year either because of suspensions, grades, or transfers. I hope they are all back but it I highly doubt it. The bottom line is the Dawgs need at least three RB’s in this years class with the expectation that 2 will likely have to play. IC is a freshman and will be given to opportunity mature but I suspect one more miss step from CT and he is gone…Malcome has already threatened to transfer once and now that Marshall is coming in I suspect he will leave…I hope not but I bet he will…

IC has great potential and I would hate to have him carrying the ball for another team. Everyone then would feel different about him. Yes he has had problems this year, most well documented, some probably not. IC is young and in an unusual circumstance for him. He has always been the “star player” on his team. He gets to college (in the SEC no less) and now he is no longer the best player on the team. Yes he may be as he grows and developes, but as of today he is not “THE MAN”. All that said it is hard for an 18y/o to digest the new college freedom and atmosphere. Give the kid a chance to mature and understand that his team looks to him to lead them. He will be that player in years to come, but not as a freshmen! Next year he will feel more like a leader. H

All of this negative talk about IC needs to ease up. It’s just plain stupid and it is mostly from idiotic trollers. IC, REAL Dawgs fans appreciate what you did this year. Just please lay off the weed. It’s bad for you. The kid missed 3 games and parts of others and still rushed for 847 yards. If he didn’t miss those game he would have had 1200 yards. He had a great season for an 18 year kid that just left home 6 months ago and trying to play in a conference like the SEC. A year in the S&C program and a year to grow as a college student will help him. Now he has another good RB to compete with and share carries so they both won’t get beaten up like he did this year. I can’t wait to see both of them next year. This will soon be the best RB tandem in the country.

Majority of people on this blog are supportive. IC did have quite a freshman season and I am thankful for it.

A healthy Crowell should be the expected starter in 2012. But Marshall will be a huge boost to the running game next season. We all saw against LSU how important depth is. Crowell, Malcome, Samuel and Marshall make quite a stable. Go Dawgs!

Just how much “patience” would have been exhibited if Crowell were not as talented? So, he’s pulling himself out games, talking smack, getting suspended because he’s “young …. immature?” We have boys fighting around the world his age for God’s sake. I’m a little tired of the writers piling on the fans over this. After all it’s pretty easy to see. Secondly, the 4 backs you see at LSU and those at Alabama are big, fast punishing runners. Crowell and Marshall are undersized for the SEC. We’ll need a dozen of this type back to make it through the year.

ok, lets examine this comment…marshall hasn’t played the first down in the sec…crowell is less than dependable…malcome is a fumble machine and has already quit once…samuel runs hard in one game and his m.o. is he’s easy to bring down with arm tackles…a four headed monster indeed…none of those four would crack the rotation at LSU or Bama…

People need to lay off Crowell. He is just a freshman after all. Richt typically redshirts freshman so they can grow up in the system a bit before getting on the field. The “Dream Team” was an exception because of the lack of depth at several positions. If Ealey and King didnt wash out, Crowell would have been redshirted for sure.
I think the success of Lattimore and the string of SEC National Champions has gotten into the head of the UGA fanbase.

I would say that ‘02 and ‘05 were pretty good years as well as ‘07 even though we missed out on the SEC CG. Next year is laying out like a potential great run as well with the possibility of Bama being dropped with the addition of Missouri. If you watch the whole scenario, at least 2 LSU players should have been flagged on the same play – geez, get a life , , , too bad Richt didn’t stand up for Crowell – he didn’t stand up for Ealey either when Ealey fumbled against LSU a couple of years ago . . .

People need to stop “worrying about” Crowell. He’s a true freshman. Probably 18 or 19 years old. He’s a kid. He’s going to grow up physically, mentally, and emotionally. Try and remember back on when you were 18. There’s no way, at that age, I could have handled the responsibilities this kid is handling.
Cut him some slack. He’s got a whole coaching staff and team holding him accountable and helping him grow. He doesn’t need the UGA fan base booing him on the field.

Crowell would have been even better if the O-line had been better at run blocking. Other than a couple of cupcakes and the Auburn game, the O-line was rather inept at run blocking. If the O-line can step up the run blocking, next year can be great for Crowell and Marshall. I do give it to the O-line for providing excellent pass protection in the second half of the season. We have the size on the O-line but we need them faster and stronger. It takes a team to move the ball on the ground.

Congrats Keith! And congrats to the coaching staff…..we now have a tailback with an IQ above Mr. Coffee! Folks ain’t been piling on Crowell because of injuries….it was when he WASN’T injured and did a drum-solo on his helmet to come out after water-girl contact that made folks mad, along with gettin’ penalties for running that trap when he shoulda shut up. He’s a freshman, and he’ll learn. However, we were gettin’ pretty slack on tail-back recognization these days. We bring ‘em in and they are either dumb as a sack of rocks or have the character of a ….well, no character at all! We’ll never find the perfect tail-back, and nobody expects us to. Agree totally that KM will only help ALL of thrunning backs, not just IC, who didn’t do half bad this year under the circumstances.
In addition, I’d personally like to see CMR do the following:
First- Hire a full time special teams coach, unless it interferes with position coaches. (i.e. numbers thereof)
Secondly- Open up competition for BOTH the QB as well as the RB position; and be ready to play two QB’s!
and Lastly- Spend an equal or even greater time recruiting at the O line positions as well as the ’skill’ positions. We always have seemingly great skill players, but little depth on the O line.
One last comment. The majority of Bobo’s critics seem to have little knowledge of the game. Case in point; “he insists on running the same play time after time…” Take as an example running btween the tackles. Same play every time, right? Sorry, not the case. Most players and former players could point out that a team can run the same play from 5 or 6 sets, or block it from the same set an equal or greater number of ways.
Why start off the second half vs LSU with a run? Well we were hurting them with the pass, and since we ‘assume’ they will make adjustments at the half, let’s see what they are, maybe catch them with personnel that don’t matchup, for example. Frankly, I think Bobo does do a pretty darn good job.
As for his (and most of UGA’s) critics, well, I suppose it’s better to be opinionated rather than informed…kind of like some sports writers we all know.

All this talk really means nothing. Crowell has two choices either get serious about a life style change or continue down the same road that past athletes with great potential had and wasted. He’s at a cross roads in his life at this very minute. If he listens to coach Richt he will go on to be one of the great backs in Georgia history or if he listens to that other voice he will became another great athlete who listened to that voice of doom. If your going to play for Mark Richt either it’s his way or the highway just ask any player, which has be many no matter how many stars or how good of a player they were, that has been shown the door. I never remember Walker taking himself out of the game, or taking a play off as a freshman. IC is on his way out at UGA, he never got hit in high school, and is a total distraction to the team. Aaron has to tell him what to do every time he changes the play at the line, and 85% of the time he still goes the wrong way or misses his block, every time he get’s hit he jumps up and looks to the sideline wanting to come out. Not a team player and Georgia does not need him.

One unverified poll naming next years starter had Marshall at 52% & Crowell at 48 %. I was in the 48%. Actually I believe we need more than 2 RBs that we can count on. In 2012 I also believe that we will have them.
Establish the run, stop the run, & a play action passing game will be the key next year. Actually special team play remains my biggest concern. That & turnovers.

I’m with Bill. The negative press on Crowell is overdone. Some people who are talking about how great backs were yesterday forget that defenders are bigger, faster, stronger and better. One guy running it 40 times is probably a thing of the past. Also, building the expectations that they will be stars as 18 year olds might lead to problems. It used to take a couple of years in practice and the weight room for most guys to get up to SEC speed. Give them time, and we could truly have some special backs. Personally, I think we think about moving Samuel to FB at this point. Get him on the field with some of these other guys.

The way it’s done with the top SEC West programs is to have at least 2 great running backs. We’ve got to become more like LSU & Alabama in that regard.
If we run it as few times as we did in 2011, we’ll lose 3 or 4 games again. LSU runs it a lot more times per game than we do, and they’re 13-0, that’s the way it’s done today.
You have to limit your QB passes to 15-20, max, and run the ball. And you have to have a great defense, to do that, which LSU & Alabama have, and if Grantham returns, we have also.
We could have the top 5 running backs in the country, and Bobo would try to win the SEC passing it. 40 passes in SEC Championship game = another blowout loss.
While a running game helps you if you’re Alabama or LSU, it doesn’t fit with Bobo’s pass happy offense, Bobo is looking for backs that can pass block for interception prone, and big game bust Murray.

Agreed that Crowell fully deserves an offseason to work on his physicality and maturity. A lot was put on his back from the very beginning.
Hope his attitude in the classroom is better than C King’s was. While he’s at it he needs to learn to pass BLOCK and catch the ball out of the backfield. Pro scouts are looking and no one wants a lesser version of R Bush who can’t run between the tackles without breaking AND who is a total liability in the passing game as his hands are suspect and blocking is non-existant.
He’s not the only Dawg to miss extensive time due to injury/suspension. Remember AJ Green??? Even Mitchell missed a bunch of time this year.
I’m a 4 year grad of UGA and if I had ever been drug tested for the green I would NEVER have passed. And I finished with a 3.2 from Terry School of Business. Thousands of undergrad at UGA and everywhere else are guility of the green…maturity and loss of playing time should set him straight. If not…it’s his lost opportunity. Absolutely absurd for fans to boo him at games like the SECCG.

I also believe that would be something real fans would like to read. The media should let the coaches handle the players and they neew to report, not make, the news!

Injuries are part of the game. I’m not concerned about Crowell and injuries , because we don’t know what his threshold of pain is. What does concern me is his attitude and character.
Pay attention Mr. Crowell. If you work harder, straighten up your attitude, and stay out of trouble, you will be re-embraced by the UGA nation.

I think the addition of Marshall will give UGA a nice 1-2 punch. As long as the coaches can make them both buy into the total team concept, it won’t much matter who is the 1 and who is the 2. Yes, Crowell is a bit immature, but he is only 18 and he has room to grow. It was a lot to ask of a true freshman to just come in and be the man in the SEC. Unfortunately, a few guys older and supposedly more mature than he (King & Ealey) left the team with no choice but to play him more than initially expected. Hopefully he will do some growing up between now and next season. I support him and I want him to do well in every phase of life, not just on a football field.

What a week for running back Mike Davis (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson). The four-star prospect decommited from Florida and reopened his recruitment just days ago, and his phone has been blowing up ever since. Between getting calls during class and bombarded on various social networking platforms, Davis admits he still was surprised when he got word of who was on the other end of the line Tuesday morning.
It was none other than Georgia head coach Mark Richt. The Bulldogs had not been in contact with the former Gators commitment for some time, and they also were awaiting word on the decision of five-star tailback Keith Marshall (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook). Nonetheless, Davis was excited to hear what Richt had to say.
“Coach Richt told me he wanted to offer me a spot at Georgia, and that they needed more than one running back in this class,” Davis said. Schools including Florida State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee also have jumped into the mix, with Davis set to take official visits to Tallahassee on Dec. 16 and Columbia on Jan. 13. With the latest news of Georgia offering, Davis was quick to point out that the Bulldogs’ timing could not be better.

Lets cut Crowell a little slack…. he is a young kid that has yet to grow up…. He has for the longest time been told how great he is….. Im sure this has gone to his head…. hopefully this season has given him something to think about….. Im sure over the next couple of months we will learn the TRUE CHARACTER of Crowell…. if he quits or leaves, so be it, everyone will think he is a thug, if he learns from his mistakes and improves both in attitude and performance the dawgs are potentially to have a dynamic one two punch in the backfield for the 2012 season. IC, RSIV, BOO, and Keith Marshall will all make one another better and The Four Horsemen will ride strong, any additions at TB is great. So please lay off the kid! The QBs, WRs, &TEs that we have make it tempting to pass a lot. BUT, Bobo does not run a pass happy offense. He & Richt run a run first, play action pass offense, if & when he can. Some complain he runs it to much. It still comes dawn to running the ball & stopping the run as the primary objective. Nobody wants us to be one dimentional except the opposing DC.

agree with agreed and dap1, Crowell will become a force as will Marshall who has a different but lethal running style and is tough. with conditioning all winter and spring, he`ll be a different back in August than now, and he`s a competitor. Samual will have a good senior season, situational power running is always important with SEC Ds, and Malcom has a bright future, really tough runner who will develop. Lots of good O lineman for the future, Long, Theus… Cordy and Ben will be good NFL players next year, continued success to them! Outlook in Athens very bright, should play Hutson more next year though, he looks poised and throws a great, very accurate pass, moreso than Aaron in my opinion. hate to see him transfer

Even people who start working on their first year after college struggle and learn to be professionals. We all go thru the growing pains and turn out just fine. If he went somewhere else, you will be the first one to complain. So, I think that you should have 4-5 top players at running back because as running back, I would want to ware out my tread at college. So the more the better. Kick Isaiah Crowell off the team. He’s a CANCER that needs to be eradicated. *ANYONE* who turns their back on a Coach when the Coach is talking to you deserves to be benched. This kid is a joke. Who wants to put up with someone who takes himself out. Put on a “no-contact” Jersey during practice simply because the scout team got a good lick on him and were able to trash talk him….what a Child…He does not deserve to wear the Red and Black. Running back is one of the most physically demanding positions in all of sports. Hits come from all angles and then there’s the extra stuff that happens at the bottom of pile ups etc. Once a back has an injury and continues to play, he makes physical adjustments to avoid more injuries to the affected area (s), which can lead to more injuries.
Like Bill and other folks have posted, Crowell is a youngster who will learn from his mistakes and hopefully grow up. I’m sure Crowell will receive major doses of discipline for the penalty and for turning his back on CMR. And I know Joe T will work on the attitude during off-season workouts.
It’s extremely exciting to learn about the commitment of Marshall and the fact that he will enroll early. He’ll have a jump-start academically, conditioning and spring training.
I’m also excited about the way Boo Malcome played in the SEC title game and how Richard Samuel played before his injury.
Let’s hope the recruiting staff can bring in some more great talent so we can continue to have great teams.
Thanks for all your great work, Bill. It makes the off-season go faster and the regular season much more enjoyable!

Disagree with Adgreed (to an extent)
Nobody is on Crowell’s back. However, Richt would do well with a firmly planted well aimed foot in that asp. Something apparently Momma Crowell didn’t do enough of.
Crowell will be back next year. Bigger, stronger and faster. Hopefully, with much more maturity. Georgia, like every team in the SEC needs a strong solid stable of RBs. If Richt recruited 5, chances are he’d need every one of them. LSU and Bama both have 5-6 dressed every week. It’s not an option in the SEC, it’s a requirement.
One of IC’s main requirements to Richt in the recruiting was he wanted to play as a freshman. (Apparently, he didn’t want to play as much as first believed) Richt was good on his word although I think most fans would have preferred IC didn’t play as much as he did. The fact is, UGA running game in 2011 was built around IC on the fly after the departure of two knuckleheads. We’re lucky IC performed as well as he did

The reason so many viewed signing Marshall as a “do or die” or “either-or” is becasue if Crowell doesn’t get a serious attitude adjustment he won’t be on the team much longer. Either he will flunk out of school or will keep up the antics to force Richt to show him off the bus. All this BS about him being a freshman and being immature and backin off of him is a crock in my book. As with most young adults, they either have good character traits or they don’t. As as far as him being a true freshman, sure he was placed under a lot of prressure when he first got to Athens. But for him to pitch a temper tantrum during practice a couple days before the SEC Championship game is unacceptale. Maybe ok before the Boise State game, but not at the end of the season, when for all practical purposes he is a sophmore…I hope he can see the light and grow up, and accept the fact that he is going to have to work in the SEC to be successful. If not, he very well may view the signing of Marshall as a big bruise to his ego and continue the soft and selfish behavior he demonstrated often this year. I hope not for his sake, because he could be very successful running in tandem with Marshall…and Gurley (I hope)

I realize Crowell has some growing up to do, but let’s be fair here. He came into a pressure packed situation, when both of the losers we had at tailback quit on the team, and we instantly expected him to be the greatest thing since swiss cheese. Here we have an 18 year old kid, and we expected him to be the whole running game.Think about his supporting cast to begin with. He had Thomas, whose equipment just may weight more than him, and he has had discipline problems. We had Malcome, who may or may not have solved his, what appears to be numerous off field issues of Lord knows what nature. We had Samuels and he was doing ok, but he broke his ankle so there went our one deep depth at RB. We had a walk on, Harton, who played his heart out, but there again is the size problem. Crowell was expected to run right, left, up the middle, learn how to block the big guys trying to tear Murray’s head off, and every fan around here, yelling at the kid, for one reason or another. He never even got a chance to get acclimated to college life, before he was thrown in the fire. Yes, he did get a big head, hearing it from everybody, how great he was, and he grossly under estimated what it takes to reach greatness, and he will have to improve his work habits. He got hurt, and really hasn’t had the time to heal properly, because he was needed.
The kid did make SEC Freshman of the year. How many of those has UGA had? We should stand behind this kid, as at times he proved he belonged on the field, and he did get over 800 yards as a freshman. Hopefully, he will be in a bowl game for us, and have a big day. Otherwise we could have a rough go of it against MSU, with our present backups. Will Malcome show up and be ready? Will Samuel be sharp enough to have an impact, after missing all of this time with his injury?
I think that having both Marshall and he, is going to be a real positive. Add another RB if possible and you have a stable of good backs, a thing that UGA has been missing for quite a while. I think more than a competition, it will be the sharing of duties between the two that will make Crowell better. Of course it is up to him to accept his responsibilities and keep his grades up, get in a little better shape, and mature a little.
What he doesn’t need is every fan on this blog and other ones, telling him about this short coming and that one. Encourage the kid, as he has done some positive things this year, and he still has a very high threshold and he needs to be encouraged to reach for it. I think the key to him is maturing a little and realizing this is big time football in college. In high school, he got all the adoration you could want, but in college, he has to earn it. Marshall, with his seemingly mature attitude beyond his years will most likely help Crowell as well.
Let’s get behind the kid instead of putting him down, so he can be even more productive next year. It is his choice in the end though, so we will have to see how it goes. If you messed up at work, wouldn’t you like for your boss to let you know you messed up, but at the same time, afford you an opportunity to correct your short comings and encourage you. That’s what Crowell needs.

I disagree with you there guy. Nobody expected IC to be the “whole running game”. Just merely, be a RB at the University of Georgia which is what he wanted and got. I want IC to succeed, not just to help our football team, but for him personally. Crowell is at a critical point in his life, when he can decide on the easy way or the tough way. The later is character building and help him to realize his full potential, which includes a stint in the NFL. If he opts for the easy way out, then he’ll have problems for the rest of his life.

Bill, let’s change the subject for a while. What’s the skinny on Michael Tamburo. This would be his sit out year. With Mason and LeMay and a few other QBs in the mix, is this someone the coaching staff could convert to a tailback? His HS numbers are almost 8500 yards & 90 TDs that include almost 1900 yards rushing and 33 rushing TDs. At 5′11′ 196 he could be a nice addition as aduel threat tailback.

ARDAWG,
If Crowell had red shirted, who would have been the running backs for UGA? With Ealey and King gone, who would have stepped up? Samuels was basically starting all over again and then we had Malcome, who I am guessing here, did not practice too well, and his attitude has got to come into question as well. We have Thomas, and he for sure wasn’t going to move anybody off the line and get you any big plays for the most part.
They had to reply on Crowell whether he was ready or not. Maybe he wasn’t ready to pull the load, but there wasn’t a lot of choice. Now, if he wants to do it, he will have some support around him. The ball is clearly in his court, but there should be a lot less pressure. He has the speed, and the moves to be a great one if he gets with the program. I am hoping he will man up and do it, but if not, it will be because he chose not to now. I hope he chooses to do it right.

Well look at it this way, did IC really step up? IMHO, no he didn’t. He was just the featured back. Yes the running game was built with him in mind as being the feature back. Could some of the other FR have filled that bill? Quite likely. IC could still break 1000 yards with a good game in the Outback. The real question is, if it wasn’t IC would those running yards still been gained? That answer is likely yes. His talent may have expanded it somewhat but, there would still have been most of those yards gained, perhaps to another RB or a couple.
I state that to say this: Crowell didn’t really for all intent and purpose “Step up”. I’m afraid we didn’t see what he is capable of this past year and most of the other current backs would’ve, could’ve done what he did given the opportunity he had.

Georgia under Richt reminds me of Fla. State under Bowden. Both (in my opinion) allow(ed) their Christianity to interfere with what’s bests for the team. A good Christian believes that an individual is more important than a mere football game …. that they are salvageable. That’s admirable, but not compatible with football. It’s like eternal security. No matter what you do, you’re still “saved”. It would seem to me to make it much harder to fix problems in the program from this mindset. Saban and Miles would most likely sacrifice an individual or two for the good of the team. What’s the right way to go? I personally like Richt’s way, but it may not produce top five football teams.

To refute the non-Bulldog fan who takes 15 minutes out of his day to lambast our players, since 2001, UGA has had 6 RBs drafted or otherwise signed to NFL rosters (4 still active). With my rudimentary math skills, I believe that equates to better than one every other year. I ain’t gonna check each FBS roster year by year (as I did for my beloved Dawgs) but I bet there aren’t many teams got match that record. If you got Asher Allen who signed with UGA as a RB but plays CB in the pros, you come to 7.

There are two possibilities- either the competition will help Crowell become a better and less egotistical back, or he will be gone.

I would hope CMR advises his players and recruits not to read these kind of blogs. Many of the posters are trolls and most of the others have a self righteous attitude and clearly most of them never put on a jock strap. There are few Dawg fans that keep a positive attitude and truly support the team and would never anonymously call players names. A few of them need to wipe off the side of their mouths……there’s still a little BS there.

In the SEC you better mature or you are going to get run over!! Crowell will mature and it’s good to have competition. There’s something about being the older of the two running backs that will make Crowell have incentive to excel. I’ve seen it when you encourage a person to be an example and help a younger person. It motivates them when they know they will have to teach someone else!

Crowell has the talent the problem is everybody wanted him to be Hershel Walker. Well hes not. He needs some time to learn. Hes been a prima-donna his whole high school career which was only 12 months ago. The addtion of another good back only makes things better. We need receivers as well.Getting back to the subject, Crowell will either get his attitude together or get cut or transfer. But Dog fans should never boo a Freshman. Give the BOY a chance because hes not even 20 yrs old yet. Who knows how bad he was hurt and was still out there trying with LSU. The disciplinary problems and attitude need to be handled ASAP but lets not give up on this kid yet.

Great article Bill. Very much needed to be said. I am pleased beyond words with the commitment of KM to UGA. Way way too many “Georgia Fans” bashing IC. I love IC (and I have a UGA diploma on my wall so I surely have the right to comment on this issue). He made some mistakes this year. He is 18 years old. I made a lot of mistakes when I was 18. I made a lot of mistakes when I was 40 (I am 41 now). People need to get off their righteous high horses and just shut up and settle down about IC. This is a young man who is away from home for the first time in his life-please all you “perfect” Dawg fans put it into perspective and have some empathy and patience for the kid. Without IC Dawgs do not win 10 games this year. Period. I like to compare him to former Georgia commit and current Clemson star TE Dwayne Allen. He had issues at Clemson at first and has become one of the best leaders on the team. IC has had a difficult adjustment and he will be fine given time AND competition from KM. With both of them in our backfield good things are bound to happen for the Dawgs!

He has a white hot future IF he will work hard, develop some maturity, and change his attitude to realize it is a team sport. I think the best running back tandem we have seen in the SEC in the last 10 -15 years was at Auburn…Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown. Not only did these two guys feed off one another, but many times they were on the field at the same time.
Georgia typically runs a traditional “I” with a full back, but certainly one could envision a set with Malcom Mitchell and Tavares King at wide receiver, Michael Bennett in the slot, and split backs of Marshall and Crowell. Both of these guys can catch the ball out of the backfield. Plus one could go in motion and Bobo could still run his ever loved “draw play”. Speed and skill everywhere is what creates a great offense.

The addition of Marshall will give Georgia a healthier backfield. I think they’ll compliment eachother and not just look at it as one taking over the others spot. Alabama and LSU have it. Infact Trent Richardson is one of the Heisman nominee’s, so it can work.
Good decision i think on Marshall’s part to come to Georgia, he’ll get to showcase his talents and hopefully he and Crowell will end up being great friends.
We need one more fullback to compliment our RB’s and so i hope Georgia is working onthat as well. If presented right, Georgia could end up having the best RB dual in the country. Give em a chance folks and lets see how this turns out.

So 30 or so nut-cases (probably half techies in disguise) talk trash about Crowell, and Bill thinks there’s been a shift in fan support?
I didn’t like the suspensions by IC, but hopefully with age, he’ll also gain maturity. Injuries, especially high ankle sprains take months to overcome, and most every back in the SEC misses games with injuries (think Ingram, Latimore, etc).
If IC grows up, he will be a force on the field for us.

Knowshon was red shirted and only played two seasons at UGA. Under the right circumstances Crowell would hav gotten about 15 carries a game this year but due to a lack of RB’s he didn’t have a chance to work his way ib to the system. Many people have forgotten that Richard Samuel was a 5 star RB himself. He will be the most important back on the team next year, not Crowell or Marshall. Samuel needs to lose about 15 lbs. that he gained to play LB By the way Crowell weighs 215 lbs. He is not a pipsqueak. Bama is going to lose Trent Richardson and a whole bunch of other guys to the NFL this year, as will LSU. LSU will have the honey badger back but lose the rest of their DB’s to the NFL aand will have RB Kenny Hilliard back. He is a 250 lb freshman and a future 1st round pick. Saban will take a back sat to Les Miles again next year. Georgia will be favored over S. Carolina as Carolina will lose several to the NFL.

Whiskey Breath,
You have no idea what you are talking about as usual. Crowell was taken under the wings of a lot of players on UGA. Have you not read this in numerous articles on the AJC blogs this year. He has even said so himself. Crowells problem, is too much responsibility was placed on his shoulders and he was not ready for it. He needed time to mature, but with thew RB position the way it was, he couldn’t be given that time. Not everybody is a Lattimore.
You are just another UGA hater that comes on a UGA blog and spouts crap. Are you a tech. fan by the way? You need to do some research before you make such stupid statements. CMR is exactly the reason that K. Marshall is coming to UGA. He treats these kids with respect and doesn’t just look at them like a number, or a piece of meat. Sure there will be a few failures because a kid still has decisions to make when they go off to college. Crowell would have greatly benefited with a red shirt year, but the situation dictated that he start from day one. He had a hard time handling the spot light and he let it go to his head. Next year, if he works harder on getting into shape and in the classroom, he can do great things with Marshall as his sidekick. If he chooses not to do what is required, he will either transfer or lose his scholarship if he doesn’t keep up with his studies. I am betting he dedicates himself to being a better athlete and student.

I’m with Bill and others. LSU and Bama, the two highest ranked teams in the country, have shown that to win championships you have to have at least two good (great?) RBs. Crowell and Marshall (and Samuel and Malcome) are a start. We’ve got the AP SEC Freshman of The Year returning; and the competition should make him better. Picking up a couple more will potentially give us an awesome backfield.
Yep, I’m saying lay off Crowell. Let’s see what he does in the bowl game and next year. He could be a great one.
ATTN All Writers: No UGA fan is declaring Marshall the next Hershel. If he doesn’t get 1000 yards next year, don’t write a headline saying we thought he was the next Hershel and now we’re throwing him under the bus.

Snake Doc, for someone to come on here and crack on people saying “they cannot truly argue facts so they resort to their feelings”, you sure didn’t bring any facts to the table yourself. But hey listen, rather than getting into childish insults, let’s really talk about it (I am an Army guy, so “talking” about things tends to quell the violent side).
You know, the CMR thing isn’t about “accepting mediocrity” as most would tell you. It’s about knowing what you have versus not knowing what you could bring in. It’s about knowing that NCAA violations are kept to an absolute minimum and quite honestly, I haven’t seen any coach in college self report “possible” violations” more than CMR. It’s about knowing that there is a level of integrity with CMR that is rare within college coaching nowadays. Not saying that there are no other coaches with good character, it’s just not the norm. And it’s about knowing that during recruiting season, we can bring in players that will at least get us in position to win games. The championship will be there, I believe it without a doubt,
But keep this in mind when you have the thoughts of needing to replace CMR at this point. For every Saban and Meyer brought in to a program, there are three CPJs, D Mullens, Lame Kittens, Will Muschamps, Randy Shannon’s, Frank Solich’s, Jim Tressel’s (controversial NC, and look at where OSU is now), and Charlie Wies’. In other words, be careful what you wish for.

UGA use to be TBU when they used the fullbacks and the power I to open wholes and block. Our fullbacks where not used muched at all this season, in the past the where used for pass plays, (hobnob play against UT) I think when UGA use the power I formation rather then the single back set UGA had a better running game and it opened up the passing game. Plus you had 2 backs that could help block and release for screen passes. UGA would be set with those fast backs they have IC,CT,and this great new kid that has a good head on his shoulders KM especially if the use the power I formation more to open wholes. HW the best ever always ran from the power I and you see what he did for UGA. These new kids have the ablity they just need to be used and have a OFC that knows what he is doing. The 2nd half of the conference championship goes to show once again Bobo has got to go. He did not give AM a chance to succeed in the 2nd half and Bobo once again was out coached again by a DC of a higher ranked team. It is time to make a change he is a good qb coach but not OFC never has been never will be. Go dawgs! Seems to me that Bobo (and Richt) get locked into the playcalling they’re most comfortable with. Which also seems isn’t always the best playcalling for the situation, nor personnel, at that particular time. Bobo is not what I would consider a “good” OC. Just a couple of examples, with the TB’s obviously a weakness why didn’t the “fullback express” get utilized more. I’m sure it was more than three times this YEAR, but seriously, I only remember three fullback runs, and they were successful. Also the long pass, usually wastes a down, and is a momentum killer.

Seems like the FB is a prime example OF playing with the personel at the time. When we had better FB’s, we ran them more. We do not now have better FBs. Which is still a problem that they own, but it’s not the same as locked into something, and overlooking a perfectly acceptable way of getting more rushing yards if they could. I imagine the idea has been brought up.

Gotta have a running game man, if the tailbacks can’t provide it, fullbacks, qb, and wildcat. We have to much vertical passing Lowcountry, need more balance. Altamaha, our playcalling is 98% vanilla, we’re predictable, we have a lot of weapons to utilize, in many different ways. Bobo doesn’t know how to take advantage of the tools he has.

I agree you have to have a running game, but I am not in favor of increasing the carries to a FB. Essentially the position has gone the way of the Dinosaur in football. Need big plays, explosiveness out of the running game and FB’s do not offer that. IMO I am tired of the “Pro Style” offense that is ran. That is what is vanilla by our offense. I am more in favor of having a offense that plays in space and mixes in more of a West Coast style attack. The talent on the perimeter this team has should try and get more YAC yards out of the receivers. The West Coast would do that by incorporating more slants, crossing routes and with the talent at TE it would be perfect for Charles.

Last one, I believe UGA’s problem has been that the program did not have a DC until recently. Bobo and Richt have always put up good numbers offensively, this year they are very young. I expect Georgia to be ranked in the top ten next year in preseason polls. If they can keep Grantham, expect a much improved program. Will they play in the SEC Championship game next year? I will say yes.

My recent posts were in response to Altamaha, but if you have an opinion, jump in. But remember, we didn’t play anyone after USC until the LSU buzzsaw. Pretender, or not going to best the better teams, is a different issue. And certainly I never said, we could not have a more effective offense in any circumstances. (it’s also safe to say that a few things could have could have broken better, completely out of the control of Bobo’s playcalling)
The discussion I was in was: Given the weapons available on the UGA his year, my opinion is that Bobo did a good job using them in ways to create some offense. Obviously there is no limit to doing that, so of cource this or that could always be better. It just seems to me to be ignoring a LOT of things to lump it all in as a total failure to use any weapons.

What I will say will be contradicted by who is playing in the MNC game but..I would like this team to run more of a Oklahoma St game. Beating perhaps a dead horse but creating space and mismatches on the outside. Running more Shotgun formations and less out of the I. Now I know that is tough for some Old Dawgs to imagine but this team could not line up and play that LSU or Bama style of football. Well if you cannot do that you have to evolve. This evolution has to take advantage of the skill position players we have.

Note though the two teams that ran a version of the Spread (Oregon and West Virginia) combined for 868 yards against LSU. Now they also combined for 8 turnovers. So obviously if you spread that defense out you can move the ball on them in the passing and running game. The issue is Turnovers. Like UGA found out.

LC, yes, I have to disagree on the OSU style. I like the spaces, but, I think in tough, tight games, that power running game when you need it is indispensable. In the end, a balanced attack with a power running game, and a wide open option for passing is utopia. We all know how hard it is to consistently put all those pieces together. That said, I would focus first on a strong running game, with less emphasis on passing. AKA, the Bama and LSU model. I guess that’s why I have never been sold on Mark Richt, that’s just not his style.

DAWGman 24/7 : The Quick Fix to be SEC Champs !
December 8th, 2011
10:13 pm
Everybody at Georgia now knows if we can’t beat LSU or ‘Bama, we gotta join them. There must be changes made to make SEC Champs and true national title contenders. CMR must be bold enough to make the adjustments or UGA will continue to come in second to SCarolina in the SEC East, because Florida and Tennessee can’t stay down much longer. Heads are gonna roll before those rivals in the SEC East accept mediocrity. Now let’s admit UGA “won” the Eastern division with Arkansas’ defeat of SCarolina & our “big” win over Ole Miss. Hey, its sometimes better to be lucky than good right? But in the SECCG versus LSU, the Dawgs luck ran out and we were badly beaten by a much better LSU team.
So how do the Dawgs get better and shed its SEC pretender status? Here’s how. UGA’s defense with Grantham is ahead the Richt/Bobo braintrust at offense, and UGA must shore up its unacceptable special teams. To balance the inbalances between offense, defense, and special teams, Richt has to step up and make immediate decisions on offense and special teams. He must search the assistant coach landscape and bring in a proven special teams coach/coordinator, who can right our wrongs on kick coverage and lend some much needed attention and encouragement to our beleagered field goal kicker. Problem solved on special teams now on to the tough part, the offense. I’ll start QB position on two fronts. Murray to this point has been an adequate QB for two years as starter, but just being adequate hasn’t proved to be quite enough because UGA has yet to win the big game with him at the helm and we’ve had many disappointing losses. With that in mind Richt must open up the position for competition from QBs LeMay and Mason. Murray cannot be grandfathered in as he was this past season as the starter. Murray must battle Lemay and Mason this spring for the position to improve. May the best man win. If Murray, who has game experience advantages over the others loses the competition and desires to transfer. Fine we wish him the best. If he is a true team player he’ll stick around to provide proven depth at QB. But even before that, OC Mike Bobo needs to step down to strictly and without bias coach the QBs only. Then Richt again must go out and find a top, proven offensive coordinator and give him complete control of the offense. This new OC will set up the kind of pro-style offense that dedicated Georgia fans have been craving since the glory days of Dooley. A run-first, pound it out, ball control offense that will wear down opposing defenses in true smashmouth style. Forty attempts running the ball with a stable of SEC calibre RBs, beats forty pass attempts by an adequate QB with young WRs and no running game versus bullies like run-first LSU and ‘Bama in a championship game. Richt has to fight fire with fire versus Miles and Saban. He can no longer turn the other cheek and accept being routed by ‘Bama & LSU.
There it is y’all, it’s all up to Richt now. Does he stick with what he’s been doing and keep UGA in second tier SEC status, or does Richt do the right thing by overhauling the offense and bring in help to fix his ailing special teams? The choice is his, but if he fails to do so, Florida and Tennessee will. Go Dawgs !
Stephen A. Dawg
December 8th, 2011
11:29 pm
@ Dawgman. I agree with you about improving the offense and special teams. But let’s be more specific about the running backs. We now have Marshall and Crowell as candidates to work themselves into SEC calibre running backs. Crowell wasn’t ready to be the lead Dawg at running back this year, we know that, but he was thrust into a bad situation and people need to knock it off with all the stupid attacks on a immature 18 year kid, who was playing Class A football last year. He barely survived a injury plagued season, and he pretty much did his best at the time to show up and play through the hurt and pain. I’m sure Crowell now knows he’s got to take his training seriously in the offseason and win the trust of his teammates by stepping up and setting a positive example. Crowell doesn’t totally trust his coaches after being thrown in a meatgrinder as a true freshman, but he has to realize he has to move past that and be more coachable in order to get to the next level. He still has a tremendous upside and talent. Next season, his coaches must get him SEC level help to wear down defenses, because little 5′-6”, 165 pound Carlton Thomas wasn’t wearing anyone down. The mighty mite and poor lil fella was strictly in survival mode and it didn’t look good on UGA coaches that such a small RB at a big time school was sent to scamper up the middle as much as he did. From the little I’ve heard of Marshall, it appears he is a speed back with 4.29 sprint speed. A guy that can be gone if he turns a corner. Pretty good. But UGA still needs another guy like Samuels at RB that can break tackles and go up the middle in attack mode against LBs and safeties. In other words we still need another pounder to go with Marshall’s speed, Samuel’s brawn, and Crowell must up a little bit to start breaking a few tackles along with being the artful tackle dodger he showed to be this year. IC is much tougher now than he was when he first came in and he needs to heal up and get his mind/head right to go to work on and off the field.
Right on Dawgman about QB Murray. Richt has got to give Mason and Lemay a look or he runs the risk of losing both of them and the last thing UGA needs is another mess at QB as big or bigger than the mess that was made at RB. Murray reminds me a lot of Richt’s old 1991 FSU qb, Casey Weldon, who was a limited overachiever who relied on the cast around him more so than his own abilities. The offensive line needs to be rebuilt and suitable depth need to be brought in.
We might as well face it, we will never see another legend at UGA like the great Herschel Walker, who had all the super speed, intimidating power, great mental strength, great discipline and dynamic physical build in one package. Now Georgia must have at least a quartet of SEC RBs to do what HW did for us and carry on the great running Dawg tradition to win championships. Go Dawgs!!!

Ok, so now that Charlie Weis is leaving, the Gator people want to make us believe, its a good thing, when just last year, he was y’all Offensive guru, make up your minds, was he, or wasn’t he, suppose to be y’all Offensive Messiah, and turn y’all team into some kind of Offensive Juggernaut for 2012? At least that’s what you Gator fan were telling us.

NiceUni, Tell me exactly how it helps the Gator’s, that Weis has left? Now they have to hire another Offensive Coach, and those offensive recruits for 2012 don’t even know who’s going to be the next Coordinator, and who ever it is will be implement his offensive game plan for next year. Actually, they are going to have to start all over with their offense, Tell me once again, how is that going to help the Gators?

Again, Crowell should develop nicely and be a good TB.
Even in the past when we had a great FB (Sutherlin, Chapas), we didn’t give him the ball much except at the goal line. However, I do like throwing it to Figgins on screens; which we also have done traditionally.
I too wonder why we didn’t put Mason in more often. Mop-up duty just doesn’t cut it for getting experience.

My prediction for the gators was DEAD ON CORRECT.
I told that smartalec SSIGator that Muschamp and Weis would never co-exist together. Never. One year, over, done with.
I get one right every now and then…………..

CMR still doesnt understand you need O & D lineman in the SEC! He does have a few good D lineman now but the O-LINE is STILL a huge problem; well that and Bobo.

In terms of numbers, UGA has recruited just as many OL as anyone else, over a period of time. Development is another issue, but give credit for moving on when SS didnt work out (and everybody thought he was a great hire). Friend has done a fantastic job. Changes in conditioning was a positive move. And you have to admit some just plain bad luck too. Oline no doubt an issue, but’ I don’t believe its because they don’t understand the need for linemen to compete in the SEC. That’s not very believable IMO.

The spin from the florida idiots like SSIGator will be PRICELESS
justifying Weiss leaving.
One year ago, we were supposed to tremble like puppies remember?
Weiss coached Tom Brady
Weiss led Kansas City to the playoffs
Weiss could turn Brantley into Brady II
The spin now will be PRICELESS

Charlie Weiss has taken the head coaching position at Kansas State: What does that tell you about the state of the Florida football program when the offensive coordinator leaves “The best coaching job in America” to go coach a team that won two gmes last year and has been in decline for the past 6 years. And no – it’s not for an opportunity just to be a head coach again. LOL. Florida is in the dumps. The rats are jumping ship from coaches to recruits – my, my….the invincible Gators. Ouch.

Everybody signs about 4 a year on average. And actually, in the past 5 yrs UGA has signed more OL than either LSU or Bama. We signed 6 last year. I understand they plan to sign a good number this year too.

You guys need to consider that UF will most probably hire an OC that will be an upgrade, or at least a better fit.

Key to running game is offensive linemen. With 4 and 5 stars on the line most backs at Georgia are capable of having a great year.

We signed 5 last year, one was a long snapper. Yes we have had injuries but so has everyone else. You mean to tell me in 11 years he cant get a solid O-line? 2 maybe 3 years we have had a SEC o-line.

I think Isaiah did very good this year. When I think back to my younger days (BBA 74) I know I would not have had the maturity to stay out of trouble. What he has done is pretty mild compared to some of my exploits back then and a large portion of the student body made me look tame by comparison. I don’t doubt he has had some injuries that would have kept other players out of the game. I admire him for toughing out the ankle injury for the SECC and I think he deserves our respect for that. I also don’t think his wrist and rib injuries were small matters and he fought through them. He has been subjected to a lot of unwarranted criticism from Dawg supporters and foes alike. I understand that he does read blogs and other internet gossip columns. I encourage true Dawg fans to let him know that he had a very good season, despite the setbacks, and that we all expect him to continue to grow and be a dominant SEC back in the years to come.

DawginLex, go on Gatorsports.com at the Charlie Weis comments the last 3 months and see just how happy Gator fans were with his offense. You are correct about many thought he would be a good fit; me included. But once I saw that after his 15 scripted plays to start each game he was clueless on how to adjust, I knew he would either be 1 and done or Muschamp would be gone after year 2. His style of offense did help Brantley who had 190 yards against Bama in the 1st half, but after his injury, he was basically a 1 legged QB the rest of the season. IF and that is a big IF, UGA can win 2 in a row against us for the 1st time since the late 80’s then I will agree we are on the downside and UGA is on the upswing. Until then, I would put a fork in us yet. So far according to our recruiting website not a single recruit is leaving, so time will tell. Another thing that some of you were correct about and that was Muschamp and Charlie will not get along. One of my contacts close to the situation was that Muschamp was going to just make him a QB coach and hire someone else to actually be the coordinator and Weis would never agree to it. The inside favorite to get the job is Kerwin Bell, JU Head Coach and former Gator QB and reports are he has let Muschamp know that he would accept if offered.

IC does not need to read the blogs or papers to know UGA fans did not appreciate his lack of effort. He heard the Boo’s. Now, if you can convince him that the fans were cheering for Boo Malcome or OC BooBoo, things might be ok. Didn’t Boo get his yards after the game was “over”? I am hoping IC stays, that he can prove all nay sayers wrong, battle for a starting job, go to class and pass and be DGD. I am a fan of UGA’s but far from delusional. We will still struggle to beat Fla., Vandy and SC. I don’t know what ‘Bama has coming back but I do look forward to that game.

Well, There is a difference between not having and not wanting. My point was simply that it’s certainly not for lack of trying. Or at least on the surface, not for a lack of numbers.
I think some of it is turnover at that position coach. And no doubt, some cases of picked the wrong recruits.
And I would question only having 2 good lines in 11 years, but lets say that is true. Your guess is as good as anyone why it hasn’t panned out.
So what would you think the issue has been? Surely, you can’t truly believe it’s as simple as not knowing any better, as you originally said.

You Dawg fans talking about Marshall as the next Herschel Walker, and comparing Crowell and Marshall to Ingram and Richardson, is comical. Marshall only weighs 190 pounds and Crowell isn’t exactly a picture of toughness. And by the way, Marshall is 35 pounds lighter than Herschel.
And while were on the subject of weight, Gator fans are universally glad to see Weiss leave. With minimally competent offensive game-planning, coaching and adjustments, we would have beaten Auburn, FSU, South Carolina and probably Georgia. Our offensive line does lack depth and size at the moment, but that doesn’t explain the poor performance. We have more than enough talent at the other positions.
