LSU fans are feeling good about their team and the Mad Hatter. (Associated Press)
For a view from Tiger land on how our opposing fandom is approaching Saturday’s SEC Championship game against Georgia, I checked in with my old friend Owen Scott, who grew up with me in Athens (where his mom still lives), graduated from UGA and has been a clinical psychologist in Baton Rouge for many years.
Owen’s wife is an LSU prof, his oldest daughter in a huge Tiger fan and his youngest daughter graduated from UGA last December but is “a Tiger first, Dawg second,” he admitted.
However, Owen, who’s been following the Dawgs all his life, has remained true to the red and black and posts comments on the Blawg under the name Dr. Morpheus.
“I’ve attended most of the LSU-UGA games in Baton Rouge and seen some great wins (2008) and tough losses (2003) here,” he said. He just lucked into two tickets to the Georgia Dome game at face value and will be in attendance Saturday.
The buzz in Baton Rouge, Owen said, has the locals “feeling cocky.”
Typical of the attitude, Owen said, was the discussion Tuesday on a Baton Rouge sports radio show where the host, former LSU basketball player turned football sideline reporter Jordy Hultberg, thought the Tigers being favored by 13 points was right on the mark.
Said Hultberg: “You gotta be loving what’s going on!”
LSU has seldom trailed, Hultberg said, and even when they were down by 14 points to Arkansas the Tigers had no problem quickly scoring 21 points. “They feed off of big plays, whether it be a big return, a turnover, a breakthrough run. … It was over at halftime.”

Owen Scott lives in Baton Rouge but has stayed true to UGA.
The host asked an on-air guest (a local insurance exec) for a prediction on the game with the Dogs and the response was, “I don’t want to be overconfident, but this team has taken care of everyone. It will be worse for Georgia than Arkansas,” which lost to the Tigers 41-17.
In an exchange with a caller, Hultberg said the LSU defense “is smothering. It just makes life miserable for the opposing quarterbacks. And I don’t see any difference with this coming Saturday. We’re coming to win. There’s no back door, we’re coming through the front door.”
Summing up the mood in Baton Rouge, Owen said: “The LSU base is not taking Georgia seriously. They expect to come into the Dome and blow the Dawgs out with their overwhelming defense and pounding rushing attack. It’s up to our guys now to show LSU and the sports world we belong on the same field with the best of the SEC West and consensus No. 1 team in the nation.”
But Owen, at least, is optimistic. “If the LSU players are drinking the fans’ Kool-Aid,” he said, “they will be in for a surprise when they see that, unlike Arkansas, Georgia can stuff the run and pressure the QB. Go Dawgs! GATA!”
Trust him, he’s a doctor.

We will just have to see when they come to town. Special teams have to have no mistakes. No giveaways. Our offense has to be on with the pass. Our defense needs to shut them down early and allow the offense to score, which we will.

Remember last time? AJ got the most bogus call of all time for excessive celebration and we had to kick off from the 25? They no longer had to throw th eball to get into scoring position and ran one up the gut. Won teh game on a BS call that caused a special teams issue. We have to be perfect and the refs can’t screw us again.

Jeff, for one thing, I think that if LSU plays Alabama again, Alabama wins. They shot themselves in the foot missing three field goals. Let’s see how our defense holds up. I would have chalked up all of the talk about the SEC East being terrible to ignorant fans, but Paul Johnson said it as diplomatically as he needed to last week. Basically, GA and the SEC East are awful. Muschamp added to it. We have so many talking heads and football people saying this that it has stuck. ESPN and SI were both calling for UGA to lose to Tech last week, and that tells you what they think of us. Now, everyone has convinced themselves that the Dawgs will get blown out, not just the LSU fans. We haven’t even moved in the polls much even when we beat teams very impressively–we beat Auburn worse than LSU or Alabama, basically toning down the attack in the 2nd half. We’ll see what our Dawgs can do on the field….Go Dawgs.

CPJ even taunted the SECE last week, saying we’ll see who is the best in the matchups. “Terrible” Vandy crushed Wake, SC whipped Clemson, and UGA stuffed Tech. The Gators did find a way to lose to FSU, but honestly, if they had just punted every time their offense got the ball, their defense and special teams might have won it.

It sounds to me like they have a real live dumb… for a sideline reporter over in the craphole they call Baton Rouge. He has no knowledge of anything UGA if he is stupid enough to believe that they will beat the Dawgs worse than Petrino. Arkansas has no D to speak of, and while their QB Wilson is a good player, LSWho will quickly see the difference in the elite receiving corps that has emerged in Athens.
It sounds like the whole bunch, players, fans, and the Louisiana media have completely bought in to the ESPN hype of their team. It also seems that at their own peril, they have bought into the constant UGA bashing that has taken place by the sports media as a whole. They have discounted the new attitude that has returned to Athens after three years of decline. It takes a special coach to get his players attention back after the goings on in Athens recently.
I know that UGA brought a lot of the media bashing on themselves after ESPN promoted them to the preseason #1 spot in 2008, we all know the results of the games that killed us that year, but people like ESPN will not acknowledge the injury factor that prevented UGA from holding up the expectations, so there for the LSU people will stand on the things they are told by their idols at ESPN.
The Dawgs have a much better chance of knocking off the Tigers than they are being given by most in my opinion, and a win would then have most of the same ESPN bobbleheads doing an immediate about face towards Georgia Football.

Paul, Les runs up the score and Mark doesn’t. Not slamming, Les may be smarter because we obviously aren’t doing to well in the polls. You had to actually watch the game. Again, Dawg fans, Les’ record and Richt’s record means NOTHING! It’s one game, in 2011. If previous meetings meant anything, wouldn’t we have stomped Boise again?
It will take a perfect game by the D, Murray, and the O-line, with no turnovers, just to stay close. We’re not gonna score much, evidenced by Patrino’s Hogs getting shut down, but I don’t think LSU can score 30 on Grantham’s defense.
I hope, Bobo is planning on avoiding LSU’s excellent, ball-hawking DBs, and pass rush, but using two tight ends for pass protection, and as targets for short passes.
We have no hope of running wide on them, so it will be runs between the tackles, which we have had mixed success this season. Maybe Crowell will have the game of his life.

Bill your friend Dr. Morpheus needs to have a lond talk with Mr. Matt Millen. The boy needs help! if you used his logic for LSU playing in The Nation Championship game even if they lose to Georgia then LSU shouldn’t even be playing in the SEC Championship but Alabama would because of “the way they lost”. His logic would also mean Georgia’s loss to South Carolina would not count, because of “the way they loss”, so Georgia would be the best one loss team by beating LSU. Makes a lot of sense don’t it! All our Dawgs can do is take care of the business at hand which is to play their best game and beat LSU. Losing to LSU wil not only cost us the SEC Championship but also the chance to play in the Sugar Bowl according to the projections on ESPN.

Obviously, LSU is a great team. However, simply b/c Arkansas was ranked in the top 5 does not mean they are a better team that UGA. For one thing, UGA’s defense is much better than Arkansas’s. Also, football is about matchups and UGA happens to match up pretty well against LSU. LSU is a run-first offense and UGA is a run stopping defense. Also, LSU will face the best pro style offense it has seen all year in UGA.
What’s in LSU’s favor is that you know week in and week out what team is showing up. They play well every single week. Alas, the same cannot be said of UGA. They are still a young team, and though much improved, still have bouts with inconsistency. If the UGA that played against Auburn and GT shows up, LSU is in for a fight. If the UGA that played the rest of the year shows up, UGA will get beat badly.

@Thank God for Reggie Ball .. are you sure Murray is better than Moseley, Brissett and Jakes? Nah, man, I am just kidding. Somehow these guys look at QB stats as the be all to end all. If that were the case though, Matt Stafford wouldn’t have even been picked in the first round much less first pick. A lot more to QB analysis than stats. Nice post.

It seems to me that LSU has had to get up for 3 big games this year and they have to be thinking about how this game is a given and they need to start thinking about the BCS Championship game. It’s hard to get up for so many big games–even more so when the other side is not expected to be much of a challenge. We’re talking about 19-21 year old kids, not grown professionals. Also, Miles is famous for his clock and play calling blunders and I don’t know if we’ve really seen any this year–he has to be due. UGA has a stout run defense and the best QB they’ve seen all year. This one may not be the foregone conclusion they expect it to be.

Ripe for the picking!
My biggest worry is how our OL will hold up. LSU wins b/c their D makes other teams look bad. Their front 7 will try to harass Murray enough to force bad throws that their DBs can pick off. Murray needs to play smart — a sack and a punt are better than an interception or a fumble. We also need Crowell at his best b/c a decent running game will open up the passing game, but there won’t be a lot of space to run thru.
It will be up to our defense to keep the game close b/c our offense won’t get a lot of opportunities. And it will be up to our special teams just to not blow it for us.

I am good with it. I was actually laughing when I read it. Personally, I like the fact that the SEC is so dominant that no other conference can sniff a national title unless they keep the SEC out of the game altogether. Even if I was an Ole Miss fan, I would take some pride in that.

UGA has the athletes to hang with LSU. Challenge will be LSU’s ability to wear down an opponent until they hit the big play. Seems once that starts, it comes as a flood. But if the Dawgs ratchet up the special team play, avoid costly mistakes, and stand toe-to-toe physically, there’s no reason why they can’t whip LSU.

The DAWGS are not afraid and that’s a good sign! Sure, LSU is a great team but they put there britches on the same way the DAWGS do! Coaches Richt and Grantham know how to run a football game, they’re no dummies! The DAWGS will be ready!! Sure, they may lose but LSU will know they’ve been in a football game. They will NOT run all over the DAWGS like so many of the LSU fans think. The stats don’t mean a thing! The biggest one that concerns me are the take aways or strips as you may say. This is why their turnover ratio is +19 to GA’s +10. This seems to be the biggest concern of Coach Richt’s. They MUST protect the football!!!! Isaiah, if you play, PULEEZE don’t fumble!!!! C’mon DAWGS, you CAN do it!! Play your hardest, what a wonderful to show the world who you are!! You can achieve national prominence as you’ve ever had!! GO DAWGS!!!!

Man if everyone is saying that LSU has already won this game and the Dawgs has no chance…what’s the point of playing the game? Why don’t they just hand the conference trophy over to the tigers and wait for their bowl bid. I am sick of the media which plagues people minds with this crap. The dawgs have not got any respect from anyone other programs, the polls, and some of the fans. This is my first time posting here but I must say if I was a player on UGA’s team I would definitely be offended by all this and use this to motivate me for this game. If I were the players I would be saying to myself I am not going to lose this game. I really believe the dawgs can win if they stop the run and the offense is playing its most complete game. No turnovers, no hiccups on special teams, and the defense stop that run game all 4 quarters. Lets go dawgs I hope you are as pumped up about proving the world wrong as I am. Lets show the tigers we deserve some respect. Lets take the respect from them and the rest of the world and bring home the trophy back to Athens. Yes we were IMHO. We can agree to disagree here. Were we talented? Absolutely, as much or more than Bama, AU, LSU, FL. It had nothing to do with talent. We were likely the most talented team in 08 and still couldn’t get it done. Horrid to me UGA Alumnus, is having the ability and wasting it. Records don’t matter. Most upsets happen when the favored team becomes overconfident, Has no respect for the opposing team and reads too many headlines telling them how easy this is going to be, Georgia coming off a losing season and being scoffed at for playing such an easy schedule should be angered by such disrespect, With nothing to lose and expected to be destroyed by mighty LSU, The Dogs could score a majot upset, At least we will soon find out just what kind of team Georgia has.

Get “it” done? Get what done? We were by far NOT the most talented team in 2008. Florida was, Alabama was. equal skill players and NOT EVEN CLOSE as far as both lines. (which as we see is everything) They had all thier talent on the field, we had just enough LB to walk through a game plan mid week, and DT standing in for DE just to do that. We went through our 3rd string LT anchoring a OL that was comprised of very little experience and questionable now, talent.
How highly ranked would Georgia have been preseason 2008 had we disclosed to the voters the 25 players that were not going to be on that team? somewhere around 6-12? 10 game prediction?

We couldn’t win it all. I disagree, we were as talented or more than anyone in the country. Certainly as much as Bama and were demolished by Bama between the hedges. Embarrassed yet again by Tebow and Florida. We had the play makers on both sides of the ball. No reason for 3 losses that year and one of them to Tech. LSU has great KO and punt returners. The dawgs cannot give LSU any TD’s or big gainers in either department. They’re going to score on Offense thats a given. To give them TD’s on special teams will only put the dawgs in a deeper hole. It’ll be hard enough scoring on LSU w/o having to overcome giving points up to their special teams. The key to GA’s offense is pass protection and the accuracy of AM. I doubt the dawgs will be able to run on LSU’s defense to where it makes a difference in the game. If the dawgs D can shut down LSU’s RB’s and make their QB pass more its to the dawgs advantage.
No TO’s at all, don’t fall for any Mad hatter tricks, keep the passing game clicking, play great D and the dawgs just might pull off the upset of the season. GO DAWGS!

GaTruth: I was at that game. As I recall, LSU got flagged for a bogus call (payback for the bad call on AJ Green) on our last touchdown and kicked from the 20 (not 25) as well. The difference was that your kicker decided to kick it to Trindon Holliday (poor judgment), and your recever was only able to get about 10 yds on the return. Still, since LSU scored so quickly, UGA had more time remaining following the LSU kick than we used.

I never saw “that” leadership quality from Stafford. Rifle for an arm, tough, mobile and 9 of 10 on target. He never did have a feel of his receivers though. Seems he was almost robotic. RoboQB. Obviously talented and good as referenced to his status in the draft and NFL. Personally, I just admire the “footballer” attitude as opposed to the “I’m here for 3 years, please me” entitlement junkies.
We have a lot of “footballer” attitude on this team this year

I absolutely love this group of kids more on this team than that one. That’s really not the issue I piped in on. That was that 2008 was far from Horrid by normal standards and its just patently unfair to say that a team that beat up “should have” won more than 10 games. I really wasn’t getting into personalities, or perceptions. This line of discussion has seemed to have morphed to something else, I’ll try to steer it back to my point. What I remember is we had no lines to even practise with much less play against some of the best team in not just that year, but in several years. I find that to be pretty a pretty significant factor.
If I had to deal in pure perceptions though, I remember that team as the same boys that NOBODY was questioning their primadonna status when they were beating UF, AU,(when NOBOY was calling the blackout “gimmicky) tech and blowing out HI in the Sugar Bowl and ending the year as one of the best team in the country. Maybe you were calling them all lazy and selfish in Feb. of 2008. I just don’t remember anyone else doing that.

I thought the 2008 team had some great players in the skill positions, but like I said, unless you’re able to follow the team well, you didn’t hear about the mounting injuries in other areas of the team, especially in the lines. I don’t know that Stafford was looking towards the NFL though, he certainly didn’t put up numbers (not that’s the top determining factor for a QB, but it’s one of the only things you can control in that much of a team game).

Certainly I am speaking in perceptions. the 08 season was just a portion of the the perception to which I was referring. I remember the injuries to the OL. Stacking it with freshmen. The porous Martinez defense. Moreno was likely the only constant on the team that was loaded with 4-5 star talent. More than half of them hold overs from the 07 team. We had primadonnas on both sides of the ball. Half hearted effort in many of the 10 wins that year. Coaching? Players? I don’t know and it matters not now but, IMHO that was the biggest group of under achievers ever assembled at UGA.
I was stating that mid way through the 08 season. We were falling in the polls while winning because they were expected wins with lackluster performances. The 08 Dawgs didn’t impress pollsters.
I’m not trying to bust your chops here. You know I respect your knowledge and opinion of most anyone’s on the boards. Horrid in terms of record, no. Horrid in terms of underachieving as was 09 and 10. I like this bunch of guys we have (not that I didn’t like 08’s) but, What I see with these guys is, they like to play football. They’re not just mouthing the words, they mean it. If they lose to LSU I won’t believe it’s because they didn’t give it all. These bunch of guys will give it all and leave it on the field. I’m not impressed with blowouts, I’m impressed with play

Refs will not allow this game get outta control. Anticipating some BS calls against the Dawgs, especially if LSU struggles. BCS needs LSU to win, to keep face with the CFB nation (if Okie St wins big against Oklahoma…i can see BCS dropping Bama a spot). S. Williams needs to watch his temper and taunting…i can already see him costing us a few big plays. Refs gonna call some BS calls against the Dawgs…to give LSU the slight edge. And while we are at it, why would they even care if you taunt the crowd. The crowd, falsely believing it to be their right (all crowds), do MUCH worse to players. Throwing taunting flags for taunting players is bad enough, but the crowd too? Just stupid.

Greetings from Baton Rouge, fellow Dawgs. Like Jarvis Jones, I like Les Miles and have great respect for the LSU football team. They’ve earned their ranking at the top and they deserve to be favored. But, as Jarvis said, we’ve got a pretty good team, too. I haven’t seen us excited like this in a long time and I have to like our chances of proving the doubters wrong. But, win or lose, there’s one thing I know: It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog! See y’all at the Dome.

Well, folks, this game should put to rest once and for all whether Richt and Bobo are incompetent or underappreciated and misunderstood.
There are no excuses.
The Koolaid Klub keeps yelling to give these two contract extensions now that we have recovered from the embarrassments of losing to Boise State in those stupid uniforms and then to South Carolina with an unbelievably stupid game plan.
The others take Richt’s word that he is the CEO, not the head coach. They (and I) think that he and Bobo are totally incompetent as coaches but are good recruiters. I will also grudgingly acknowledge that Richt is adaptive by hiring Grantham and Friend. But, he is no head ball coach. We think that we should let his contract expire at the end of its period and hire a better head football coach and offensive coordinator.
So, let the games begin! We will get to see the game plan, the play calling, the conditioning, the execution, and the intangibles of whether the coaches are inspiring and energizing their players from the sidelines.
The final score will tell all.
Maybe then the Bulldog Nation can reach consensus about the future of its storied football program.

OK. LSU is far superior to UGA. There is ZERO chance that they will be upset by UGA. Why? Everyone says so. ESPN, the fans, the armchair quarterbacks, etc.
Fine. If UGA is so terrible and LSU is so superior, this means that LSU doesn’t deserve to go to the NC game if UGA beats them. For that matter, with all the hype everyone is putting on LSU as being the “best team” and “unbeatable,” UGA deserved to go to the NC game if they pull off a stunning defeat of the unbeatable.
The problem…. You won’t ever get an LSU fan or the talking heads to admit that. In their mind, LSU is perfection and unbeatable… but if they lose, the excuses and the justification to leave LSU in the NC game will start flying.

I see Matt Barkley of SC on ESPN everyday. Someone from that channel tells me constantly how great he and the SC team is and how Barkley is moving up the Heisman charts. Am I correct when I say UGA has the same record as SC and A. Murray has the same stats as Barkley? Why isn’t Murray on ESPN? SC is banned from post season play so who really gives damn about them? UGA is the team playing for a championship. I’m starting to see the negativity of ESPN many of you post about.

Dawginlex,
I can find common ground with you as I agree that we look good going into next year. With better prep during the offiseason, though, and with better coaching, we should really be undefeated right now going into this game, or at the worst one loss. Then all the arguments about bowls etc would be trivial.
As I said, I do give Richt credit for being adaptable when his job was at stake. The sad part is why didn’t he take action when the problems first were obvious to all but the most inebriated?
I could probably live with Richt if his adaptablility continues and he replaces Bobo after the season. But when his arse is not hot on the grill, he has demonstrated no incination to make such moves on his own.
Otherwise, I hate to say it, but the fact is that in spite of all the talent on the teams of today and the future, we will be looking forward to Outback Bowls or worse as long as Richt is pulling down his $3M per year in Athens.
My hope is that the fan base and alumni have higher expectations than that.

Let the tiger fans bray, they`ve earned that with the season the team has put together. They`re in for a surprise on sat, they haven`t encountered 2 nose tackles close to Jenkins and Geathers this year, maybe ever. 2 fresh guys like that keep each other fresh and the linebackers are stout and hit. The option schemes that worked marginally for LSU against ALA are in for a tough afternoon, Ga as advertised is very fast and deep at LB too. Jefferson will be rocked and pressured, and his passing ability is marginal at best, especially with someone in his face. Ga`s receivers match up better than any team they`ve played this year, because Ga`s deep, big fast and can make the tough catch. They all can, and they`ll knock you back or down blocking, all of them. If the line can open a few creases and the Dawgs backs pop a couple bursts, LSU won`t bray in the end. Should be fun, they can look forward to Mardi Gras and the replay with Ala. WHoopee!!, bring a cot. BTW DR Morpheus has had some good comments in the past, enjoy the game Doc!

As a Gator fan who has seen both LSU and Georgia up close and personal, about the only positive thing I can say is, at least Iowa State, Baylor and USC make a good case for playing the game to see how it turns out.
However, my guess is 40-something to 10, LSU.
The big problem with LSU this year is that they basically have 44 starters. They rotate their twos in continuously the whole game, which is why the few teams (except Alabama) that have looked competitive against them in the first quarter end up getting blown out in the second half. Even if your ones match up well, they can’t help but get worn down by LSU’s depth.

LSU fans keep talking about putting up 50 points. Big talk for a team that could only score 19 on Miss State and 9 on Alabama. Georgia had Miss State 24-3 at the half.
Riddle me this: How can it be that a team loses to an 8-5 Arkansas team with 4 SEC losses on the last game of the regular season but some how claims to 2007 NC. LSU so called 2007 NC is a joke.

I can say I am pulling for the Dawgs or against them. I just think from what I have seen LSU is just too Strong. The UGA running game is the key, but Bama couldn’t run on LSU. I fear UGA can’t either. If MURRAY is left to win it with his passing I don’t think UGA can win.

I’m not gonna whine about not being given a National Championship until the season is officially over. Besides, I’m still busy right now whining about 2007.

LSU/Saints has a point…GA fans NEVER show respect for OTHER champions but 30 years is a long time of pent up bitterness.

13 points is not nearly enough. UGA has played NOONE. LSU will be up by at least 10 at half and 21 by the end of the third quarter. They may give up a touchdown late in the 4th after they’ve started celebrating, but only after the game is over. If UGA had played LSU’s schedule they’d by, at best, 7-4, probably 6-5. If LSU had played UGA’s schedule they’d still be undefeated only the stats would have been obscene.

For all you Dawg fans if Larry Munson was still with us & calling the SEC CG he might say something like this about 2:30 PM this Saturday afternoon…
“You know we have no chance you guys…absolutely no chance…No one, and I mean no one expects us to even be able to stay on the field with these guys…I mean just look at ‘em!…their just too big! Too strong! Too fast! Their undefeated you know…12-0 and nobody expected us to be here. Their guys go 3 and 4 deep at every position this LSU team. They’ve played the best teams in the world and destroyed everyone one of ‘em…look at all those ranked teams they’ve beaten. And here we are, ‘lil ole Georgia trying to stay on the field with these guys. How are we going to run or throw or do anything against this defense? And you know we can’t stop ‘em….nobody has…my God they’re 12-0! They have too much talent. Too much speed…and we have no running backs…none who are healthy and you know we can’t block ‘em! Loran whataya got?
God please rest Munson’s soul & go Dawgs!

I love being the underdawg. Nobody gives us a chance. I really think we match up well against LSU and expect a great game. Coach TG has our defense playing hard right now. LSU really does not throw the ball that well and we are good against the run. If Murray takes care of the ball and special teams play well we have a chance. Go Dawgs!!!!

I don’t love being the underdawg.
I don’t love complaining about getting no respect when we play a team that’s ranked more than 10 spots above us.
I don’t love hoping that we spoil someone else’s season.
I don’t love complaining about the media, the NCAA, the SEC and any other possible excuse for our lack of success.
I don’t love bragging about upset wins that happened so long ago that nobody remembers them.
I don’t love backing into a Championship playoff when we’re the 5th best team in the league.
I don’t love seeing our fans leave the stadium in the 3rd quarter.
And most of all… I don’t love getting a beat-down from LSU after bragging for weeks about how they’ve never faced an underdawg team quite like the Dawgs.
Does that make me an Energy Vampire?

LSU should be the favorite, they’ve done nothing to not deserve that.
But we are a lot better than Arkansas. Top 5 defense vs. Arkansas 51st ranked defense in the country. If LSU fans think they are going to run the ball down UGA’s throat, they are going to be in for a big freakin surprise.

Wouldn’t you be cocky if you were LSU? UGA has not played and beat a team with a winning record in the SEC east. UGA has beaten only one team with a winning record and that team is highly suspect, no matter how good that victory felt from a fans point of view.
LSU is far superior to a team that has played a weak, cupcake schedule, LSU is far superior to a team that did not even play any of the three top teams in the SEC.
The CEO’s teams are good at beating inferior opponents, When it comes to being even competitive against far superior opponents, eh, not so much.
Unfortunately, do to the weak schedule UGA played this year, we will now be subjected to at least another 3 years of the CEO’s ineffective leadership of our no longer relevant and beloved Bulldogs!

This is in response to the implied question permeating the blogs of why even play the game if LSU is so highly favored.
Just a couple of games into the regular season in 1986 an average, unranked team from Miami (the one in Ohio, not Florida) made the trip down to Baton Rouge to play the #8 LSU tigers. This was supposed to be an easy win and tune-up game for LSU before they started their SEC play. The problem was, somebody forgot to tell Miami they had no chance because five fumbles, two intercepted passes and a blocked punt later the average, unranked team from Ohio walked off the field with a 21-12 upset of the mighty LSU tigers.
If we take all the college football games that have ever been played where one team has been favored to win over another then the majority of the time the favored team won. But it’s that minority set of games where the underdog has triumphed that makes you realize…..that’s why they play the game.

UGA is at the very least the 3rd best team in the conference. They would destroy South Carolina if they played right now. And their defense is so much better than Arkansas it’s not even funny.
UGA would be the top 5 teams in the ACC though.
