LSU fans are feeling good about their team and the Mad Hatter. (Associated Press)
For a view from Tiger land on how our opposing fandom is approaching Saturday’s SEC Championship game against Georgia, I checked in with my old friend Owen Scott, who grew up with me in Athens (where his mom still lives), graduated from UGA and has been a clinical psychologist in Baton Rouge for many years.
Owen’s wife is an LSU prof, his oldest daughter in a huge Tiger fan and his youngest daughter graduated from UGA last December but is “a Tiger first, Dawg second,” he admitted.
However, Owen, who’s been following the Dawgs all his life, has remained true to the red and black and posts comments on the Blawg under the name Dr. Morpheus.
“I’ve attended most of the LSU-UGA games in Baton Rouge and seen some great wins (2008) and tough losses (2003) here,” he said. He just lucked into two tickets to the Georgia Dome game at face value and will be in attendance Saturday.
The buzz in Baton Rouge, Owen said, has the locals “feeling cocky.”
Typical of the attitude, Owen said, was the discussion Tuesday on a Baton Rouge sports radio show where the host, former LSU basketball player turned football sideline reporter Jordy Hultberg, thought the Tigers being favored by 13 points was right on the mark.
Said Hultberg: “You gotta be loving what’s going on!”
LSU has seldom trailed, Hultberg said, and even when they were down by 14 points to Arkansas the Tigers had no problem quickly scoring 21 points. “They feed off of big plays, whether it be a big return, a turnover, a breakthrough run. … It was over at halftime.”

Owen Scott lives in Baton Rouge but has stayed true to UGA.
The host asked an on-air guest (a local insurance exec) for a prediction on the game with the Dogs and the response was, “I don’t want to be overconfident, but this team has taken care of everyone. It will be worse for Georgia than Arkansas,” which lost to the Tigers 41-17.
In an exchange with a caller, Hultberg said the LSU defense “is smothering. It just makes life miserable for the opposing quarterbacks. And I don’t see any difference with this coming Saturday. We’re coming to win. There’s no back door, we’re coming through the front door.”
Summing up the mood in Baton Rouge, Owen said: “The LSU base is not taking Georgia seriously. They expect to come into the Dome and blow the Dawgs out with their overwhelming defense and pounding rushing attack. It’s up to our guys now to show LSU and the sports world we belong on the same field with the best of the SEC West and consensus No. 1 team in the nation.”
But Owen, at least, is optimistic. “If the LSU players are drinking the fans’ Kool-Aid,” he said, “they will be in for a surprise when they see that, unlike Arkansas, Georgia can stuff the run and pressure the QB. Go Dawgs! GATA!”
Trust him, he’s a doctor.

Greetings from Baton Rouge, fellow Dawgs. Like Jarvis Jones, I like Les Miles and have great respect for the LSU football team. They’ve earned their ranking at the top and they deserve to be favored. But, as Jarvis said, we’ve got a pretty good team, too. I haven’t seen us excited like this in a long time and I have to like our chances of proving the doubters wrong. But, win or lose, there’s one thing I know: It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog! See y’all at the Dome.

Don’t feel bad Joe Bob; Russ, the interim mascot, called Coach Johnson on the phone and barked at him, and the GT coach hung up on him and accused him of being a Walmart employee! That was last week…

Coach Johnson didn’t recognize a real bulldog either, or he thought he was a retarded human who worked at Walmart…not sure really. Again, that is water over the dam.

I’ve lived on both LA and GA for 20 years each. Trust me, the difference in a red-neck homer and a coon-ss is the coon-ss has better taste. in girls, food, and ESPECIALLY football. As welll as UGA has done in a very weak SEC east, come to LSU’s home away from Home (yes, the dome with your name on it) Bring your best game, fondest memories of Larry, and take your whipping. Don’t quit until the sixy minutes are gone. The best team will win.

CHDawg……………as you Dawgs like to say….There are no TECH fans because we can’t fill our stadium. You think the 5 or 6 Tech fans are on this blog acting like LSU fans? Who’s fan base is the one that is obsessed? You are sounding very Paranoid. If you check the Falcon Blogs there are a TON of Louisiana folks still in Atlanta after Katrina. They didn’t go home.

Actually, I was talking to my father. He is going to the game…has good tix. He knows…that LSU is the overwhelming favorite….but…
as I told him…it only takes LSU to overthink their possibilities…to be at their worse…or to have a bad game….GA Dawgs can take it to them….either LSU will prevail 31-17….or GA could pull the upset 24-21…..
We shall see!

How can your doctor friend whose younger daughter is a UGA grad, as well as himself, consider that he’s a Tiger first, Dawg second??? Born in Athens, UGA grad, daughter UGA grad, and mom still lives in Athens, should definitely make him a Dawg fan. Something fishy here.

I like the way this college football season has played out, in regards to the upcoming National Championship game. I propose that the NFL follow the same format for the Super Bowl. No matter who wins the playoff games or League Championships, New England and San Francisco should play in the Super Bowl. After all, they are the two best teams in my opinion. That’s all that matters.

So irrelevant, so delusional, so stupid, so disappointed after the BEATDOWN from LSU…keep spewing facts, hubris and bravado….LSU cares about one – points allowed and we’re the best..we win…don’t confuse your cupcake schedule and 10 wins with your ability to hang with LSU….you can’t and won’t…you lose….

The Bulldogs also were the only SEC East team that did not have to face any of the SEC West’s top three teams — LSU, Alabama and Arkansas, which have a combined record of 33-3. Instead, Georgia faced the Western Division’s bottom three — Auburn, Mississippi State and Ole Miss, which have a combined record of 15-21.

Truth is Arkansas does not have a defense and the DAWGS have a D better than the kittys have seen except for maybe Bama. Please keep thinking you’re going to score 40 or more. I hope your players are thinking the same. Remeber our two losses was the first two games of the season one of which the DAWGS gave away.

papadawg- I guess when you say gave away you forget BSU called off the dogs and even took a knee in order to not score again. Yes it was the first 2 games and from then on it was the easiest schedule in the entire SEC. Look for LSU to make a statement.
