This blog was posted Sunday night about an hour before the news of Larry Munson’s death broke, at which point I put up a Munson memorial. For those of you who might have missed this earlier entry, here it is again …

Jarvis Jones: The Beast of the East! (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)
Week in, week out I don’t think there’s any doubt who’s been the player of the year for the SEC East champions: Jarvis Jones.
Against the Cats, Jones, who transferred to Georgia from Southern Cal after the staff there decided an injury had made him no longer fit to play, had another 2.5 sacks, giving him a conference-leading 12.5 for the season. The former Trojan also forced the fumble that set up Georgia’s only touchdown.
LSU may have its Honey Badger, but Georgia has the Beast of the East. Thank you, USC! …
Some Georgia fans, including former quarterback Buck Belue, are wondering why Isaiah Crowell didn’t attempt to return to the game Saturday with a taped up ankle if, as Mark Richt said Sunday, he’s expected to be ready to play against Georgia Tech.
As Buck put it in his blog: “Must have been more than a tweak, right? How could a competitor sit there and watch his offense struggle like that, if it were just a tweak? Got to figure a competitor would have felt the urge to tape it up tight and go. Tough it out. So, his ankle must be hurting … or he’s just not that much of a competitor. And if it’s hurt that bad, how could he be ready to go on Saturday against Georgia Tech? Just saying.”
Of course, there’s another possible explanation: The Dogs didn’t absolutely need Crowell to return to the game in order to beat Kentucky, and so the coaching staff elected to keep him safely on the sideline.
I don’t know which it was, but, judging from the conservative playcalling (ranging from vanilla runs up the middle to not going for a field goal on fourth down late in the fourth quarter), it looked to me like Mike Bobo and Richt decided the defense was playing well enough to win and there was no need to take any further risks on offense.
As Bobo said after the game, “We did enough to win.” …
Two more thoughts on the subject of running backs: Richt was still mum Sunday on Carlton Thomas’ future but you’ve got to figure that, unless there are some extenuating circumstances, a third full-game suspension this season, especially coming just two weeks after his last one, is likely to mean we’ve seen the last of No. 30. … And let’s hope recruiting target Keith Marshall had the same thought Saturday that many UGA fans had: Crowell spends so much time on the sideline, for one reason or another, that if Marshall comes to Georgia he ought to have plenty of opportunity to play as a true freshman. …
Finally, here’s an unconfirmed rumor out of Athens: The seniors told Richt that if they won the SEC East they’d like the chance to wear those Nike Power Ranger uniforms again in the Georgia Dome, one source says, and he told them they could.
Now, from what I understand the SEC West representative will be the home team this year, and if it’s anyone other than LSU, that would preclude the Dogs being red. But if it’s LSU, which prefers white jerseys even at home, it could happen.
I’m hoping the rumor isn’t true, though. Sure, I think the team deserves some sort of reward for winning the East and I’m not automatically against red tops and bottoms for a special occasion. And the silver helmets weren’t awful.
But those tacky no-name jerseys worn against Boise State? Please, no!

I don’t think you’ll see Crowell or Thomas in Athens after this season. Maybe the Jax State football team will get better. Sure hope Richt has three RBs in the fold for the ‘12 signing class.

ARTICLE 3. a. Players of opposing teams shall wear jerseys of contrasting
colors. Players on the same team shall wear jerseys of the same color and
design.
1. The visiting team shall wear white jerseys; however, the home team
may wear white jerseys if the teams have agreed in writing before the
season.
2. If the home team wears colored jerseys, the visiting team may also
wear colored jerseys, if and only if the following conditions have
been satisfied:
(a) The home team has agreed in writing prior to the game; and
(b) The conference of the home team certifies that the jersey of the
visiting team is of a contrasting color.

I would like to see Richt start Harton against tech. He may not have the size and talent but he has proven he is a gamer and has heart. He has done all the right things off the field and has worked his way on the field. He has give UGA a chance when he has played. He has also proven he is tough. I wouldn’t be suprised if travathian’s nfl highlight film has a lot of harton on it. Harton took a lot of shots but hung in there and stayed on the field. Maybe if he starts and malcome backs him up, it will light a fire in crowell’s belly and make him want to play.
as for the uniforms burn them and find some way to pay respects to Larry Munson

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR THOSE UGLY, NO NAME UNIFORMS AGAIN. MR was saving IC after he got hurt. MR has done that alot this year. We really need Thomas to come back and play. IC is a true talent. He has been beaten up this year. We need a bruiser back to run up the middle. It is going to take a season or two for IC to be consistant game in and game out. BOTTOM LINE IS OUR DEFENSE CAN NOT WIN THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP FOR US. WE NEED OUR TBS TO BE READY AND HEALTHY. WE NEED MURRAY TO PLAY A SOLID GAME. WE CAN GET BY KENTUCKY WITH A BAD GAME ON OFFENSE. WE CAN NOT BEAT LSU WITH JUST A GOOD DEFENSE. LSU’S DEFENSE IS BETTER. WE NEED TO BEAT GT, TO RUN THE STATE.

If the seniors want to wear the power ranger uniforms let them wear them, They have earned it, Crowell was probably held out by the coaches, Don’t read anything else into it, I hope Ga plays better against Tech than they did against Kentucky, Tech has much better team than wildcats, Look for Georgia’s speedy LB’s to shut down Tech’s option.

I wish Jarvis Jones was the LB,RB,QB,DE,C,OC, head coach, AD and the cheerleader. He’s a bad ass and a pure football player. His attitude doesn’t come out of his mouth it comes out of his work ethic. There isn’t any other player i would even discuss trading him for. I hope he saved his best for the golden sissies. Oh yea……….I’ll keep the DC> He’s a bad ass too.

Be interesting how IC does next year…kinda understand as in High School he was done by the half……..He has the talent….his cuts..vision…speed to the hole is far superior to all of our backs…..I agree with everyone that he “seems” not to have heart…………
Did you see the beating Harton took…….if IC had his heart he would have had 1800 yards this season……
Thomas needs to go…..third time is the charm…….he must go!

The seniors have not earned, and no seniors ever will earn, the right to wear Ghetto Ranger jerseys.
These seniors, like all UGA seniors, should be proud to dress out in the uniforms of Georgia, which does not mean the uniforms of some fool from Nike who should have better taste, and a modicum of class, before attempting fashion design, especially for football, where the uniform is meaningful.
If Mark Richt choses to allow anyone to wear such ugliness, and represent the University of Georgia, Mr. Richt should be run out of the state.
Once was far more than enough. Ugh!
My guess is the Uniform Angel will punish Georgia, should there be a decision to wear the ugliest uniform in the history of the world, with losses in the next three games.
I’m convinced the Ghetto Ranger uniforms caused the Boise loss, as our players couldn’t possibly have recognized each other in the uniforms of cartoon characters.
Go away, Power Rangers, go away forever.
Fight on, Bulldogs, but only in UGA uniforms.

I’m an old guy but I’m not going to act like one: Personally, I like the black jerseys with red helmets; but, if the seniors want the Nike Combat gear, why make a big deal out of it? If it was promised to them, let’s forget it and move on. As for Crowell and the KY game, fumbles by the other RBs and Murray not seeing wide open receivers were the biggest factors in our lack of scoring. Turning it over 4 times (3 by the RBs) makes it hard to beat anyone. UGA has won the TO battle most of the season and will certainly need to do so against Tech, much less the SEC West champ. That said, Crowell has run tough when he’s been in and he says in interviews he realizes he’s going to have to become more resilient. But the disciplinary suspensions… how many second chances do you let guys have before you lose all credibility (just ignore the trolls who jump on this comment).

A friend has planted this thought in my head that I hope isn’t true but I can’t quit thinking about it. What if Crowell’s “injury” was in name only and when IC’s leg got fell on after his second carry he took it as an opportunity to support his partner in stupidity Carlton Thomas?
I have no reason to think it’s true but teenagers can be really stupid. It would mean IC would rather support his bong buddy than his team which really sucks.

Crowell has always layed down when things get tough. He did it in high school. I watched him take himself out of the game several times when Carver played Calhoun and be disrespectful to his coach. I don’t know why we expected anything different. You can’t change people that much. Put the looser on the Bus out of Athens

What do you mean no facts. If I see something happen, I didn’t make it up, it’s a fact. Coaches just don’t sit their number one guy out to protect him when the SEC East Championship is on the line. Dude don’t have the heart, the desire, or the attitude to be a champion at this level. He wouldn’t be smoking dope if he did.

Crowell would just walk off the field in high school when ever he wanted. No injury just walk off to the sideline. First of all DON’T walk. If want to walk around like you own the place get out of Athens cause you don’t. I gave him the benefit of the dought but all I see is the same thing that I saw in a high school game. Same heart just in a different uniform. Put the Vampire on a Bus out of athens.
