This blog was posted Sunday night about an hour before the news of Larry Munson’s death broke, at which point I put up a Munson memorial. For those of you who might have missed this earlier entry, here it is again …

Jarvis Jones: The Beast of the East! (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)
Week in, week out I don’t think there’s any doubt who’s been the player of the year for the SEC East champions: Jarvis Jones.
Against the Cats, Jones, who transferred to Georgia from Southern Cal after the staff there decided an injury had made him no longer fit to play, had another 2.5 sacks, giving him a conference-leading 12.5 for the season. The former Trojan also forced the fumble that set up Georgia’s only touchdown.
LSU may have its Honey Badger, but Georgia has the Beast of the East. Thank you, USC! …
Some Georgia fans, including former quarterback Buck Belue, are wondering why Isaiah Crowell didn’t attempt to return to the game Saturday with a taped up ankle if, as Mark Richt said Sunday, he’s expected to be ready to play against Georgia Tech.
As Buck put it in his blog: “Must have been more than a tweak, right? How could a competitor sit there and watch his offense struggle like that, if it were just a tweak? Got to figure a competitor would have felt the urge to tape it up tight and go. Tough it out. So, his ankle must be hurting … or he’s just not that much of a competitor. And if it’s hurt that bad, how could he be ready to go on Saturday against Georgia Tech? Just saying.”
Of course, there’s another possible explanation: The Dogs didn’t absolutely need Crowell to return to the game in order to beat Kentucky, and so the coaching staff elected to keep him safely on the sideline.
I don’t know which it was, but, judging from the conservative playcalling (ranging from vanilla runs up the middle to not going for a field goal on fourth down late in the fourth quarter), it looked to me like Mike Bobo and Richt decided the defense was playing well enough to win and there was no need to take any further risks on offense.
As Bobo said after the game, “We did enough to win.” …
Two more thoughts on the subject of running backs: Richt was still mum Sunday on Carlton Thomas’ future but you’ve got to figure that, unless there are some extenuating circumstances, a third full-game suspension this season, especially coming just two weeks after his last one, is likely to mean we’ve seen the last of No. 30. … And let’s hope recruiting target Keith Marshall had the same thought Saturday that many UGA fans had: Crowell spends so much time on the sideline, for one reason or another, that if Marshall comes to Georgia he ought to have plenty of opportunity to play as a true freshman. …
Finally, here’s an unconfirmed rumor out of Athens: The seniors told Richt that if they won the SEC East they’d like the chance to wear those Nike Power Ranger uniforms again in the Georgia Dome, one source says, and he told them they could.
Now, from what I understand the SEC West representative will be the home team this year, and if it’s anyone other than LSU, that would preclude the Dogs being red. But if it’s LSU, which prefers white jerseys even at home, it could happen.
I’m hoping the rumor isn’t true, though. Sure, I think the team deserves some sort of reward for winning the East and I’m not automatically against red tops and bottoms for a special occasion. And the silver helmets weren’t awful.
But those tacky no-name jerseys worn against Boise State? Please, no!

If they want to mix it up with uniforms let’s wear the 1950’s version: Silver Helmets, Red Tops and Silver Britches. Those Power Ranger Uniforms need not be ressurected in this lifetime or any other.

I have to admit. Feeling a bit down over the passing of Mr. Munson. I do appreciate the tek herd making me laugh and feel better. I had to go over on their blog and read what they are saying about the game and how they are going to kill us.
It made me laugh so hard. I feel better now. They have noooo respect for our defense. BIG MISTAKE!

I thought it very odd that Crowell was sitting on the bench with his “bad ankle” late in the game. He was all by himself. No other players sitting with him. The team celebrating the win with their coaches and he is just sitting there. He has no heart.

It almost looked like an ineffective pass rush, and the absence of blocking is why we lost to BSU. Turns out it was pigment.

If the rumor is true and the seniors requested and Richt agreed to bring out the Power Rangers uniform, then we know part of Richt’s problem….He doesn’t know how to say NO to the players.
Crowell remains a mystery. He definitely should not be wearing no. 1. Give it to Richard Samuels, if he wants it. UGA needs to sign more rbs and/or rbs with heart and intellect.

Bill, I’m with you on the vanilla play-calling by Bobo Van Winkle. I was at the Ky. game and boos rang out on the 4th Bobo call for a run up the middle on 3rd & 10. A smart OC would have put a fullback in to block (not 157 lb B.Harton) so Murray could have time to throw the ball down the field….
The receivers weren’t injured !

Top Row, I’ve been accused of being Malcome’s dad because I have argued for his potential more than once here. I was excited to see him early, and what is the first thing he does? Puts it on the ground! He did look very strong on the last series in both games, carrying a lot of defenders. The good thing is that hopefully, this will get his head straightened out, and he can start concentrating on football. He definitely has a lot of strength. Harton is very quick, but I think Malcome can do very well in the box, better than any back we have had in years. He needs practice and playing time, though. He is only a freshman (RS), and usually these guys need a little time to get comfortable. Remember, Moreno didn’t really break out as a RS freshman until Jax, even though he looked good. If Boo fumbles, though, the playing time ain’t going to happen. I thought they should have tried to give him a few more carries in the second half. Harton was doing great, but we really need to develop Malcome’s talent, too. Doesn’t happen instantly with about 90% of them.

Little 157 lb. Brandon Harton showed twice the heart that I.Crowell showed against Ky. If Harton had Crowell’s size he’d be like Steven Jackson.

I never really wanted any player reading any of our junk we write here but IC needs to read a few to understand just were he is fitting in with the team and the Dawg Nation. He is not the second coming of Hershel, not even King at the rate he is going. He is on the Ealey train to Jacksonville State if he keeps this attitude. Crowell, I hope you read this. Grow up. Become a man. Learn the word team. You have to work at the honor of being a Bulldog, it is not a right.

Here’s a good line on Harton: best back in football…pound for pound. Of course that is using his real weight, not the make believe weight. I suspect about 155.

Remember reading about “Crowell played only 1st half of game versus whomever (high school)” ? Playing only a half every game in high school does not get you conditioned to play 4 quarters in college. We are seeing the effects of Crowell not being conditioned.

Tech almost always chooses to wear white which requires the visiting team to wear dark. We could choose which dark jerseys we wore (red, black or PR ugly), unless Tech wants to be @$$h0les and choose dark for the first time this year.

Great points, Altamaha! He is a great back, who has had a big role in turning around this season. It is funny that some of these guys think he should come in from HS and be able to survive being run over by a car, and then come back in and run for 100 yds. He is human.
