How will Dogs handle life in the driver’s seat?

SEC-Football1It was amusing to hear Kentucky coach Joker Phillips telling about getting a text from the 803 area code (South Carolina) offering him dinner “anywhere in the world” if Kentucky upsets Georgia, but it also brought home how good it feels for the Dogs to control their own destiny, as the sports cliche goes, in the battle to play in the Georgia Dome.

Dawgs fans can relate to what South Carolina fans are feeling right now. Remember how frustrating it was for most of the season when we knew that no matter how well Georgia played, all the Gamecocks had to do to get back to Atlanta was win out in the conference?

Now, the roles are reversed and Carolina fans who were crying “War Eagle” last week are desperately cheering this week for Big Blue (a nickname more commonly applied to the Wildcats in basketball).

I know a lot of Georgia fans are concerned that with the point spread approaching 30 for this game the Dogs might come out complacent or lose focus looking ahead, and that’s certainly a legitimate fear in a situation like this. But a team that doesn’t let an 0-2 start and “hot seat” talk about its head coach derail its season isn’t easily distracted from the task at hand.

The Bulldogs know this isn’t just any old game against a lightly regarded opponent. This is a game to clinch the division title and go to the SEC Championship for the first time since 2005. I’ll be surprised if Georgia doesn’t come out breathing fire Saturday and ready to show the world they’re Dome-worthy. This is why these players came to UGA, to play for a championship.

After spending most of the early part of the season hearing constantly that each game was a “must” win for the Dogs, nothing’s really changed. Kentucky is a must win, but in a positive sense.

This time last year, every game for the Dogs was “big” in the ironic sense that they were desperate to just qualify for a bowl bid. This year, Kentucky is a big game because it’s for the SEC East.

Turnarounds like that are what make college football such a blast.

Feel free to share your own views on life in the driver’s seat.

These young DAWGS will handle being in the drivers seat just like they have done in every game since the opening two. They have matured very fast as a team and as individual members or parts of this team. They will take care of business and win, I predict going away from a team led by a Joker. Surely, if I were him, I wouldn’t pack my bags in anticipation of going to diner, after a victory against UGA, because that will be wasted energy. Auburn is a better team, and UGA handled them just fine, so I do not think Kentucky will present a challenge that can not be overcome. The DAWGS know what is at stake and it would be an error by anybody to make the assumption that they will have a let down against Kentucky.
I don’t even think they are even looking ahead to Georgia Tech. because in all likelihood, Tech. will also not present a big problem. I believe the DAWGS will enter the Dome, with a record of 10-2. My guess is the spread will be 8-10 points in UGA’s favor for the game against Tech.

Why does Towers insist on stirring this salary and contract renewal issue?

I mean is that really what UGA fans want to read at this point in the season.

MG has said that they will not talk contracts until after the season ends. He said this before the season started!

CT just insists that they be controversial wuestions over the UGA program which in no way helps our program… especially with recruiting.

Boycot CT’s post UGA fans. He has already boycotted mine – Blocked for some reason?

Great time to be a GA BDawg. Forward to ATL.

Pardon the repost, I don’t normally do that, but:

I saw an interesting dicusssion on another site and one of the poster offered up a hypothetical situation and I think his point is spot on.

IMAGINE if Richt had fired Bobo and hired a brand new OC who said he was going to completely revamp the offence in the offseason to be more of a faster paced hybrid Pro-Style/Shotgun Spread rather than the traditional play action Georgia offense of the past years. And this in an effort was to increase the plays and first downs, thus scoring opportunities.

Now Imagine that Georgia was leading the SEC in plays, first downs, TD passes, time of possession, QB rating, 3rd in scoring and sitting at 9-2, 7-1, and headed to the SECCG as a potential top 10 team. Aaron Murray (just a sophomore) had just broken the single season TD pass record with games still left. All this with a suspect line (and a new coach), and true freshman to replace last year’s top 2 Rec’s and RBs. Imagine also if the AA place kicker would have given him the extra 30 plus points that he should have.

This new OC would be seen as a hero, and everybody would be singing his praises every bit as much as they as Granthams now.

I’ll be there cheering on my Dawgs to win the SECE. Then, hopefully, in the Dome for the SEC. CMR has turned things around and gotten his players to believe in themselves again. Grantham’s D has sunk in and the offense has jelled. GT’s going to be a game LSU hasn’t been beaten since Moses was a child. GATA Dawgs!!!

Not that I would ever sling feces on the Dawgs parade, but Georgia has only beaten one team with a winning record. That weak of a schedule is pretty embarrassing considering the other SEC teams schedules.

You guys are funny, But i have some reality for you.
Georgia is a lot better than you give them credit for. If they go to the dome they will win it against LSU or BAMA. i hope it is BAMA though!

I’m not sure that the nat. champs will be from the SEC this time. with two loses UGA can’t go. The thing about the SEC nat. champs again is going to depend on UGA play in the SEC Champinship game. IF UGA win’s WHO would go (from the (SEC) and play whoever.

How will they handle it? No player here now has ever before had that experience. The HC with the asbestos underwear might consider the ramifications of Dawg Nation viewing the dome event on television with Spurrier on the sideline.
Talk about short hairs in the shredder!
Teeth gnashing at one hundred and thirty decibels!

But truthfully, very well I hope.

Went to the Jacksonville State site to see what Ealey and his new team were doing. I hope he’s happy. That team sucks big time. The telling part is that on the the player bios everything about him is from UGA. All his “highlights” are UGA highlights. He’s done nothing there. What a waste of good talent. Like Rocky said, “I coulda’ been somebody, I coulda been a contender”

AltamahaDawg: I will admit, I was not a big Grantham fan coming into the season. I just didn’t see his system working the way we were all told it would. I was wrong. Evidently, Gramtham has the right players in the right places now, and everything seems to be clicking. However, i’m still not sold on Bobo. The offense has improved, but still there are questionable play calls from game to game. Let’s face it-Blair Walsh’s inconsistent play has forced Georgia’s coaches to take chances when they normally would not (AKA the Florida game). It’s the BIG games that determine any coach’s worth, and quite frankly, it appears their biggest games are still ahead of them. I would love nothing more to prove to people Georgia’s not near as bad as most of us thought they were going to be after the first 2 games. If people were truly honest about it, they would admit, as do I, we all thought we were looking at another dismal season for the Dawgs.

well truedawg according to the rules if a team dont play in there conferance championship they will not be playing in the title game. thats what happend to georgia back in 07 when they let lsu jump us when they lost to kentucky in triple over time. so that bama and lsu rematch for the title shouldnt be an issue. and for all them hater out there talking about georgia aint this and georgia aint that and that lsu and bama have the number 1 and 2 defence they tend to forget that georgia is number 4 in total defence. so people look it up!!!!!!!!!!! as much as i would love to see that 6th straight title for the sec georgia will spoil that because when they kick lsu ass in the dome will pretty much end the streak. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!

I LOVE IT. The mighty Gator trolls are on our blog now that their program is in a free fall and falling into the black hole of football hell. BRUHAHAHA. Urban knew what was coming after his last year and bailed on your sorry asses. Then you had the intelligence to hire a coach that has decimated the best recruiting class of all time. Now you are facing not even going to a bowl. The Gators are in the worst state they have been in since the early 80’s. Full steam ahead bassackwards boys!

Top Three Signs of a Struggling Economy:

3. A collapse in the housing market;

2. A reduction in police/fire personnel;

1. Less talent on the Auburn football team.

Seriously, Richt has felt the heat! I’m sure he didn’t like it, and won’t ever forget it. He will be a harder and leaner Coach going forward I believe. He also has learned he is no better than his assistants! Not many Coaches are any more. The game is too complicated.I hope he has learned he has to get rid of them if they can’t do the job. He kept Wee Willy way to long! Also please don’t hire any more friends!

KY couldn’t beat The Dawgs on their best day.
The Dawgs are on their way to The SECC.
Dawgs win by 24.

I have reason to pause when it comes to the GT Game………..okay, that was long enough.
Dawgs beat GT by 13.

LSU is a favored by 10 so I beieve The Dawgs lose by 3.

Georgia plays LSU lose,Arkansas lose,Alabama lose. The fact is UGA had the best chance of doing something special this year, they will never have such a favorable schedule.Richt blew it right out of the gate by not being ready to play. Why do us UGA fans always have to say next year blah blah blah.In reality we have played nobody all year.We need a coach like Saban who doesnt give a damn about winning the SEC,the BCS is all that matters period.Nobody cares if u win the sec east with two losses. We should be a contender every damn year. Why can Alabama and Auburn hire a coach and win a national championship within 2 years? We recruit great players every year but cant win the games we need too.I mean really knowshon,AJ,Stafford and we still lose?Nobody can deny what Saban has done in a few short years.Reality is Alabama and LSU are light years ahead of us.I want to go to a football game and know we are gonna kick ass and not worry about Vanderbilt beating us.Dominant ,Dominant.I am sick of reading about players in the news, fail a drug test or get arrested ur gone period.Crowell makes me sick,I dont give a damn how good he is,he is a cancer.Nothing but a thug. Why is it every time he makes a good run i see him high fiving on the sideline?Even when we are losing. Can he not run the ball 40 times a game? I am sorry i dont share enthusiasm that Bill King has but he is delusional. He lost me with his pre Auburn article ,sorry Bill football is a contact sport, and Auburn beat us.At the end of the day we need to realize that being an SEC powerhouse is something we have to have every year period.

Thank you AltamahaDawg for shoiwng everyonw how silly it is to keep saying Bobo is a bad coach.

Quotes like, “well he still makes some bad calls” just show a complete ignorance of football.

Last year the haters thought Richt was an idiot to hire Grantham and not Boom Muschamp. Thank goodness Coach Richt is in charge of the Bulldogs and not some of the bozos who continually post carp on this board.

I do not see UGA being embarrassed in the SEC Championship game. Look at the facts: 1 Murray is the top qb in the Conference and gets the ball to all his receivers for scores 2 The D is playing super 3 UGA has a good balanced attack making the D coordinators play both run and pass as if either could score on any play- which UGA can. 4 The team is nothing like it was 3 months ago and has matured. They won’t go without a fight. Something that could not be said for last years bunch.

Hate it that ‘Cheapshot’ FAIRLEY missed his payback. Kinda hoped to see TROOPER help him walk to the sidelines rather than dance with him on the field after spearing Murray in the back or diving to hit Murray in the knees. Fairley is the image of Auburn football.

Dear Ga. fans, let us be realistic. (1) Murray is a great Qb given time, but LSU won’t give him that time (2) Ga’s defense has improved, but LSU will run it over and through them. (3) Ga has speed, but they have not faced a team with as much speed as LSU (4) Ga will not play for the National Championship.

I think the only way Alabama has a chance to get in the Championship is for LSU to lose in the SEC Championship and the higher ranked teams to lose in their conference championships. Oklahoma State has to loose. That would then leave it up to the BCS to decide which Conference Champions that are the highest ranked to go. That would leave it to Oklahoma and Oregon if they won their conferences. Until we have a playoff system, only the Conference Champions will go to the National Championship. That’s the only way to solve the problem even though you have teams like Alabama who will miss out because of not winning their conference. We would have an interesting situation if none of the higher ranked teams won their championships! It’s stil wide open as far as the top 11 teams.

Let us be clear

November 17th, 2011
9:16 am

The UGA haters try to portray UGA fans as delirious, delusional or always drinking the Kool-Aid,etc. Fine, jealousy makes people write mean things. We giggle when we read their hatred and their spews of JELAOUSY.

Here is where UGA fans and grads desire to be very year or nearly every year:

UGA playing a SEC team at season’s end for the SEC EAST Championship. A trip the The Georgia DOme on the line and a chance ………………. if only a chance to defeat the team from the SEC West to wear the badge of SEC CHAMPION. Win that game …………….. then, it all falls into place on a national level. First things first.

For REAL UGA fans ………………it starts with this KY game, then only a glimmer of hope vs LSU or ALabama or Arky is all that we desire. We just want our lil shot.

GT? Absolutely, UGA players and fans want to focus on THAT YEAR END GAME, so as to make it all very, very memorable for us all.

UGA 45-KY 16

ONLY a shot

November 17th, 2011
9:25 am

I suspect that 99% of ALL NCAA schools would LOVE ( I know ALL ACC TEAMS WOULD ) to be in UGA’s spot right now. If we win vs. KY then, we are IN THE SEC C G and that is THE MAIN EVENT ALL OVER AMERICA.

UGA has recovered with the ealry losses and THAT IS ALL that a fan or alumnus can ask for. UGA IS IN THE HUNT for the ever GLAMEROUS SEC TITLE. Heck with two losses, if UGA wins that game ………………… they will STILL BE In the top 5 in USA and again, THAT IS ALL ANY QUALITY SCHOOL can ask for.

Richt will win the EAST for the 4th or 5th time in his 11 year UGA career and on a % basis ………………………….let the hate begin. JEALOUSY drives it all.

GT? They lose to UGA, then they will be desperately, oh desperately scrambling for some low level bowl AGAIN like last year.

If UGA somehow wins the SEC C G? Then, they will be in their 4th Sugaar Bowl in 11 years. GT has only been to 3 major bowls since 1955 or 1956. 1956 Sugar? and the 1967 Orange and the 2009 Orange and that is it!!! Sad. THEY LOST ALL THREE !!!!!

Goooooooooooooooo Dogs.

November 17th, 2011
9:41 am

I assume that next year when the allocations are calculated, the administation can easily fix this little problem of leftover student ticket going on sale the week of a SEC, Final home, game to go to win the East.
