How will Dogs handle life in the driver’s seat?

SEC-Football1It was amusing to hear Kentucky coach Joker Phillips telling about getting a text from the 803 area code (South Carolina) offering him dinner “anywhere in the world” if Kentucky upsets Georgia, but it also brought home how good it feels for the Dogs to control their own destiny, as the sports cliche goes, in the battle to play in the Georgia Dome.

Dawgs fans can relate to what South Carolina fans are feeling right now. Remember how frustrating it was for most of the season when we knew that no matter how well Georgia played, all the Gamecocks had to do to get back to Atlanta was win out in the conference?

Now, the roles are reversed and Carolina fans who were crying “War Eagle” last week are desperately cheering this week for Big Blue (a nickname more commonly applied to the Wildcats in basketball).

I know a lot of Georgia fans are concerned that with the point spread approaching 30 for this game the Dogs might come out complacent or lose focus looking ahead, and that’s certainly a legitimate fear in a situation like this. But a team that doesn’t let an 0-2 start and “hot seat” talk about its head coach derail its season isn’t easily distracted from the task at hand.

The Bulldogs know this isn’t just any old game against a lightly regarded opponent. This is a game to clinch the division title and go to the SEC Championship for the first time since 2005. I’ll be surprised if Georgia doesn’t come out breathing fire Saturday and ready to show the world they’re Dome-worthy. This is why these players came to UGA, to play for a championship.

After spending most of the early part of the season hearing constantly that each game was a “must” win for the Dogs, nothing’s really changed. Kentucky is a must win, but in a positive sense.

This time last year, every game for the Dogs was “big” in the ironic sense that they were desperate to just qualify for a bowl bid. This year, Kentucky is a big game because it’s for the SEC East.

Turnarounds like that are what make college football such a blast.

Herbstreet just interviewed on The Fan and says he is impressed with UGA and likes their chances Vs LSU if that pans out. Also positive comments towards Arky and their chance VS LSU.

Q: Who does UGA match up best with AL LSU AR. I understand and agree the those are some great D’s but so is UGA at this point. I see a low score whoever.

Stay focused DAWGS 2 W’s in dominating fasion. Groom up for ATL.

You have to wade through the juvenile BS and lame brained political comments to get to it, but there is some really insightful football talk on here today. Thanks to those of you providing it.

IF we get past Kentucky (and we should), AND we play like we did against Auburn, the SEC Championship game should be one hell of a good game. I like our chances. I didn’t a month ago, but this team has really matured and started to gel. They are playing with confidence, not lethargically like they did against Boise State, or timidly like they did against S. Carolina.

Bama fans are so funny, and so are the talking heads at ESPN. These idiots on ESPN lobbied for UGA not to play for the N.C. in 2007 because they didn’t win their division or their conference championship, and then LSU which lost it’s last regular season game, but won the SECC game jumped UGA to get to the championship game. Yet here is Bama, which if LSU wins out will not have won anything, no division title, no SECC, yet all the idiot Bama fans, and all the idiots on ESPN think they deserve to play for the N.C. Bama fans are a joke, and they think their team deserves special treatment, but get a life you morons. Bama deserves nothing, they lost on their home field as a favorite, so go cry somehwhere else, maybe on the Auburn blog, because maybe you can beat them this year. Then the only title you will have is the pathetic state championship of Alabama. That really means alot. One other thing for all you negative people on these blogs about UGA. If UGA plays LSU in the SECC game, UGA should match up very well with LSU. Just a few stats for you people, UGA is ranked 4th in the nation in total defense, LSU is ranked 2nd, UGA is ranked 31st in offense, and LSU 71st. Advantage UGA, all day long. Bring on LSU, and their overrated offense. UGA will win this game if it happens.

Looks like a lot of UGA fans are beginning to sound a lot like UT fans back during the Fullmer years: having the games won before they’re played. UGA should beat KY even if they have a let-down. On the other hand, seems like I remember 2 or 3 years ago nobody gave UGA & Willie a chance to beat GT & Fat Boy in Atlanta and UGA won. The shoe is now on the other foot and maybe the exact opposite could happen at Grant Field. Best to let the games be played before mouthing off. So far as the SECCG is concerned, even though LSU has looked sluggish at times, they have beaten two quality opponents, Oregon and Bama. No cupcakes there. I think they will beat ARK because I think LSU’s defensive line and backfield can handle ARK’s offensive line and receivers. So far LSU has proven to be the top team in the country, and I think that will still be the case after the game on DEC 3 is over.

I actually fear a passing O (see boise) like the Pigs. I think the pigs beat Lsu. The three way tie is decided by BcS standings, wich should be Lsu. Uga matches better with Lsu. Both have a loose, athletic D. I like ourO when its clicking against anyone. Dawgs play tuff, take out two qb’s. But loose a heart breaker to Mett of the bench! Lol

Please, let’s play the games at hand before we annoint ourselves winners of the East. Let me premise my remarks by saying the Dawgs would have a chance to win the SECCG if/when we get there. We do that with a great effort along with a few breaks.

Against LSU we will be in for a real test. They held an offense that runs similar to ours to field goals. I think our QB and receivers are better than Bama’s, Bama holds the edge on the Oline and running game. Who comes out best?

Defense and special teams will probably determine the outcome. LSU’s D is slightly better than ours, our special teams have struggled but improved to near perfection against AU. Our kickers are lights out better on paper but can they get back to form?

Finally coaching. Bobo called a great game against Auburn. IMO, it was great because “everything” worked. Where this staff has struggled “offensively” is when they have had to make adjustments because the basics weren’t working. LSU will probably force us to get creative, and IMO Bobo may blink.

If it’s LSU and UGA, we have a chance, but, our inexperience, and offensive coaching will be our weak spot.

I tell you what UGA had better get ready for and that is some questionable officiating, i couldnt believe some of the things that werent called in the tech clemson game, but then i realized who would the ACC higher ups rather win that game? a 2 loss tech or an undeafeted clemson. i would say the sec brass surely doesnt want you dawgs coming in with 2 losses and screwing up the sec only shot at an undefeated team. just something to think about.

UGA’s offense is more potent than Bama/LSU’s, and the defense is stout and ranked #4 in the nation.

So UGA is as good as Bama/LSU if not better.

That’s according to a portion of dawgie fans’ opinions.

Alphare, I think a “portion” of the UGA fan base you speak of is feeling the effects of “left over” kool aid still in their system. We have a “chance” of representing ourselves, and the much maligned East, very well.

Nobody in there right mind wants CSS to go to the SECC game. He will buy CJP dinner anywhere in the world. Funny how he offers that to an opposing coach.

Bama fans are not living on planet earth either. You do not deserve to go to the NC game. You have a loss to the only real team you have played this season.

North ave. faithful: you are either young, or have a short memory. In the ‘98 & ‘99 Georgia-tech games tech only won because of LOUSY officiating! First, was the Jasper Sanks fumble that wasn’t, the next year came the Joe Hamilton fumble which wasn’t called. Both these calls would have been OVERTURNED with today’s coaches challenges & replay. I agree SEC officials probably don’t want Georgia in the SECCG (to be a fly in the ointment), but such is the nature of things.

I agree with most of the reason’s why we are in the position we are in, but one that is not getting much credit is the job that Kasay and Tereshinski has done. I was able to accept us getting beat last year when I knew it was because the other team was just a better team on the field . Our job then is to recruit to fill our weaknesses but it was painful to watch a Georgia team lose a game because our players could not play physical ball for 60 minutes. By the 6TH or 7TH game we could barely play half a game without being worn out.
We have played 10 games this year and I think we are getting stronger but it’s probably because other teams are like we were last year. By the 10TH game if your team doesn’t have good nutrition and Strength and Conditioning you look like Georgia did last year. I hope Tereshinski will continue starting in January getting our players ready for what could be a very special year in 2012. Pre- season ranking of no worst than 5TH.

homer, Whether you want to admit it or not — our offense lines up better against LSU than Alabama did. Also, the dawgs defense is at the top of the pack in the nation just like Alabama and LSU (all in the top 5). To be honest, the CG will probably come down to turnovers and special teams. Should be a good game.

But come on – what a weak SEC East for UGA to win it – that means that UGA has played a REALLY SUCKIE schedule – Let UGA play even Arkansas and they would loss too – just like USC.
I mean, really, look at the SEC record of teams UGA has beaten – they suck:
Ole Missy 0-6,
Misery St 1-5 (with the one win against KY Jelly),
TentC 0-6,
Vandy 2-5 (2 wins against Ole missy, and KY Jelly),
FL 3-5 (3 wins against Ole Missy, KY Jelly, and TentC) – and when UGA played FL – they had a hobbled QB and their 2 primary backs/receivers missed most of the game)
And Auburn – ranked 24th before you the UGA game?? That was a waste to start with them.
Yea – pretty pathetic schedule. So – once again – I have to ask – WHO has UGA beaten that was even a decent team (except maybe Auburn – who is half decent – but then again Clemson beat them pretty soundly and Utah State SHOULD have one that game.
And I guess since UGA lost to BSU – UGA’s strength of schedule just took another beating – with BSU losing to TCU this past weekend.
So bark as much as you want to UGA – You still haven’t beaten anyone who matters.
