How will Dogs handle life in the driver’s seat?

SEC-Football1It was amusing to hear Kentucky coach Joker Phillips telling about getting a text from the 803 area code (South Carolina) offering him dinner “anywhere in the world” if Kentucky upsets Georgia, but it also brought home how good it feels for the Dogs to control their own destiny, as the sports cliche goes, in the battle to play in the Georgia Dome.

Dawgs fans can relate to what South Carolina fans are feeling right now. Remember how frustrating it was for most of the season when we knew that no matter how well Georgia played, all the Gamecocks had to do to get back to Atlanta was win out in the conference?

Now, the roles are reversed and Carolina fans who were crying “War Eagle” last week are desperately cheering this week for Big Blue (a nickname more commonly applied to the Wildcats in basketball).

I know a lot of Georgia fans are concerned that with the point spread approaching 30 for this game the Dogs might come out complacent or lose focus looking ahead, and that’s certainly a legitimate fear in a situation like this. But a team that doesn’t let an 0-2 start and “hot seat” talk about its head coach derail its season isn’t easily distracted from the task at hand.

The Bulldogs know this isn’t just any old game against a lightly regarded opponent. This is a game to clinch the division title and go to the SEC Championship for the first time since 2005. I’ll be surprised if Georgia doesn’t come out breathing fire Saturday and ready to show the world they’re Dome-worthy. This is why these players came to UGA, to play for a championship.

After spending most of the early part of the season hearing constantly that each game was a “must” win for the Dogs, nothing’s really changed. Kentucky is a must win, but in a positive sense.

This time last year, every game for the Dogs was “big” in the ironic sense that they were desperate to just qualify for a bowl bid. This year, Kentucky is a big game because it’s for the SEC East.

Turnarounds like that are what make college football such a blast.

Georgia is too much of a complete team to lose to the Wildcats. As for GTech, the Dawgs set the edge to well on defense to lose that game. If tech wins they will have to do it by throwing. UGA has one of the best run defenses in the nation. Doesn’t bode well for the Jackets. BUT the game is in ATL so it should be a fun one.

As a UGA fan though I don’t expect you to understand how dangerous drinking and driving can be.

Right. Understanding requires logical thinking and critical analysis. You’re just not going to find that in UGA fans, most of whom are functionally illiterate.

Please explain how we will get “blown out”. Assuming no self inflicted wounds. I just dont see it. There is no explosiveness to bama or lsu. Both are actually quite predictable. I like our odds, especially with lsu. Go Dawgs!!! Gata

GTBob, I think you guys just wear down against the larger OL/DLine teams.

I’m not sure that is it. Clemson’s lines are slightly bigger then VT and we didn’t wear down against them. Against VT, our team just fell apart after the punch and the unconverted 4th down.

@Joey your right. They basically pound the run and play action to Reuben Randall. Throw in some wrinkles with Jefferson but overall, predictable

I have been trying to convince everybody all year long that we aren;t going to be capable of even hanging with the likes of Bama, Lsu, TILL we can become as predictable as them. We came pretty close Sat Nite to being a very predictable offense.

I was just saying what he said the other day as to why jobs are going overseas

but yes the taxes are high as well as the union employees wanting such high pay that companies either come to the non union south like Mercedes, Kia, BMW Boeing have done or are doing etc or they move overseas

I’ll tell you how we can get blown out. LSU pressure from their front 4. If they were to shut down the run, I really do not like our chances having to throw the ball on 3rd and 5 or longer. LSU’s defense is pretty dang good.

What is a tough schedule in the ACC

Is there a tough team in that conference? I cant think of any

Only one tough team ever comes to mind; FSU but that was in the 90’s

I was at a Trade Show a few weeks ago.. and I’m hearing that a ton of jobs are coming back from China to the States in next 2-5 years (with some going to Vietnam, cheap labor) as China’s middle class is really causing prices to go up… Plus, alot of our communities are getting wise and giving tax breaks now…. Home Depot just announced that new Call Ctr going into Kennesaw which had been traditional jobs going to India… It is starting to happen…

AltamahaDawg

@ Flagboy… you are right… if we can’t keep LSU’s front 4 off of Murray, we are in for a long night… Plus their punter can keep us pinned down like the Boise punter did all night…..I don’t think we ever started a drive past our own 20 with that rugby style punter kicking it deep all night long.

What is your definition of shut down the run? Nobody is going to have their “average” run game against an LSU defense. For example of UGA averages 200 per game is 100 for the game against LSU considered, shut down?

Being able to gain positive yardage and keep LSU honest against the run would be success in my book

The only tough schedules in the ACC are those teams that play a SEC school

I don’t think we generate the same kind of defensive pressure LSU does. LSU has more talent on that side of the ball than us. I do think offensively, we might have better overall weapons. . . . but their defense is lights out.

If they do have to defend our pass on third and medium, they better be better than good. To many options on our end. That aggressive front four will hate life on a screen pass cause lbs and dbs are gunna be to busy worrying about a deep ball.

HOMER Comon man get a grip , Georgia right now is playing better than anybody in the country, You hold on the best running team in the conference to 50 yards rushing and the offense to 150 Yards , and if you didnt realize that Georgia Ranked 4 th in the country in rushing defense , and total defense they are sitting number 7 . How can you say blowout . We have to play kentucky and win to get to the Dome , And if it is LSU I think that will be a great game . No BLowout here .

UGA needs to watch the Bama tape to formulate a plot to beat LSU. I know lsu won the game but Maze, bamas only good receiver, gashed that secondary many times plus he got injured but still got open.

LSU’s defense is 2 deep at every position. That will be the game changer as our O-line will be completly worn out toward the end of the 3rd Qtr

But

Im holding out hope that Thug Jefferson will have his typical INT performance when he is playing a whole game

Ok I said it back at the start of the season if the Dawgs won their first two they had a great chance to go all the way. Bobo is slowly improving and that is hard for me to say but I wish him the best. They should beat the Wildcats and go to the Dome. I am proud of them and love that defense. We have a chance of being awesome next year if we recruit well again and that looks good. GO DAWGS
