How will Dogs handle life in the driver’s seat?

SEC-Football1It was amusing to hear Kentucky coach Joker Phillips telling about getting a text from the 803 area code (South Carolina) offering him dinner “anywhere in the world” if Kentucky upsets Georgia, but it also brought home how good it feels for the Dogs to control their own destiny, as the sports cliche goes, in the battle to play in the Georgia Dome.

Dawgs fans can relate to what South Carolina fans are feeling right now. Remember how frustrating it was for most of the season when we knew that no matter how well Georgia played, all the Gamecocks had to do to get back to Atlanta was win out in the conference?

Now, the roles are reversed and Carolina fans who were crying “War Eagle” last week are desperately cheering this week for Big Blue (a nickname more commonly applied to the Wildcats in basketball).

I know a lot of Georgia fans are concerned that with the point spread approaching 30 for this game the Dogs might come out complacent or lose focus looking ahead, and that’s certainly a legitimate fear in a situation like this. But a team that doesn’t let an 0-2 start and “hot seat” talk about its head coach derail its season isn’t easily distracted from the task at hand.

The Bulldogs know this isn’t just any old game against a lightly regarded opponent. This is a game to clinch the division title and go to the SEC Championship for the first time since 2005. I’ll be surprised if Georgia doesn’t come out breathing fire Saturday and ready to show the world they’re Dome-worthy. This is why these players came to UGA, to play for a championship.

After spending most of the early part of the season hearing constantly that each game was a “must” win for the Dogs, nothing’s really changed. Kentucky is a must win, but in a positive sense.

This time last year, every game for the Dogs was “big” in the ironic sense that they were desperate to just qualify for a bowl bid. This year, Kentucky is a big game because it’s for the SEC East.

Turnarounds like that are what make college football such a blast.

1) I want to see UGA clickin in all facets of the game like the last two, against UK and GT. Rolling up that momentum into the SECC game will give us a chance for the upset. Coach ‘em up CMR TG BoBo…

2) Really hate these AJC sportwiters right now. Have a great chance to write positive headlines to help out recruiting when we are getting the kids attentions… and the past two headlines …

No Worries about Ky.. and this team will go down in Dawg Lore for alot of reasons….stopping the losing to UF and getting us back in the SEC Chmpship picture…. UF is toast until they change out personnel and USC with their little Tebow impersonator (who can’t throw worth a lick) won’t be much next year either…. This team is resilient to have come back from 0-2 AND down 17-3 to the Gayturs….

You can’t win the NC if you don’t even win your division or league.

——————
The 2003 Oklahoma Sooners had a chance to do that after losing in their conference championship game on the last game of the season before the bowls though. It IS possible.

A man went to his doctor and said, “Doc, I’ve always admired the Polish people, and I would give anything to be a Polack.”

The doctor replies, “Well, you’re in luck. They’ve just developed a surgical procedure that will turn anyone into a Polack. A surgeon removes 99% of your brain, and then you’re just like a Polack.”

“That sounds great, the man said. Let’s do it!”

A few days later, in the operating room, the surgeon asks the man if he’s absolutely certain he wants the surgery. “I sure am,” the man says. “Let’s get on with it.”

A couple of hours later, the surgeon has finished removing 99% of the man’s brain. Then, the unthinkable happened. The surgeon sneezed and accidentally removed the 1% of the brain that was left.

In the recovery room, the surgeon said, “Sir, I am so sorry. Instead of removing 99% of your brain, I accidentally removed 100%. this has never happened before, so we have no idea what someone without a brain will be like.”

The man looked up at the surgeon with glazed eyes, and with slurred speech said…

“HOW ‘BOUT THEM DAWGS!”

The athletic history of UGA is full of so many sordid, sleazy incidents – dating back to Vince Dooley and continuing through Mark Richt – that it’s impossible to overlook. The school has come to stand for drunkenness and lawlessness, coddling of illiterate low-class athletes who should never have been admitted to college, and rampant cheating by coaches.

UGA and Mark Richt are an affront and an embarrassment to all decent people in this state.

I hope that all the UGA fans in attendance at the upcoming game can put aside their “need to leave with 13 minutes left” to remain and show appreciation to all the players and coaches for the amazing job they have done. No easy task to winning the SEC east no matter how you slice it.

I think GM should come out with a statement that it is UGA’s full intention to negotiate contract extension for CMR and that as far as assistants go, he would expect to negotiate extensions with any staff members based on CMR’s recommendations…. Also that none of these discussions and details would be discussed until after the end of the season.

Give the recruits the confidence and at the same time delay any discussions so that all can focus on these remaining 4 games.

There is so much ignorance to this post I almost don’t know where to start. 2008, beating LSU at LSU I guess is part of that history huh? I don’t have time to school you on a history lesson because it’s been well posted on here over and over. You’re just too lazy to look it up before posting so much crap. No history of scheduling big games? The Dawgs have a history of scheduling some of the BEST OOC games of any team in the conference. Don’t let your lack of research ability continue to cause you to post stuff that proves the idiocy within.

Stay focused Dawgs. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE. I don’t think Kentucky will be a let down. But we have to play assignment football against Tech. The option is the easiest offense to defend if everyone plays THEIR position. Don’t overpursue. Make the QB commit before you leave your lane. JYD is back!

Dawg_Mike, the tiebreaker with a tie among Bama, LSU and Arkansas is not the highest ranking in the BCS if the 2 teams ranked highest in the BCS are within 5 places of each other.

Bama is currently 3rd and Ark is 6th. If Ark beats LSU they and surely Bama will jump the Tigers. In that scenario since Ark and Bama are within 5 places of each other, Bama goes to the SECCG because they beat Ark 38-14.

UGA has the number 4 defense in the country and the best quarterback and receiver core in the SEC. If you don’t think they will come to play and represent you are not paying attention. This is not the team that was too young for prime time versus Boise. I am not saying they will beat West winner but anybody that thinks the game will be like last year is incorrect. Mark it down baby!!!!

I think they match up with Arkansas best. They are fairly one dimensional and the Dawgs have proven no matter the QB, they can beat any team with no ground game. LSU, not so much. Can they win? Sure they can. Will they? Not real confident on that one.

scrambledog any one would have thunk it, Georgia did nothing great they merely beat a lot of lame teams from the east and one from the west. They haven’t beaten anyone who would be considered an elite team yet. They merely lucked out on the schedule this year. If they had had 2 play Ala, LSU, and Arkansas you could have tallied 3 more losses on the season. If they beat or even come close 2 lsu in the SEC game I will retract my statements. Till then though Ricth and BoBuBU need 2 go or we are doomed 2 more years of mediocrity in the Bulldog Nation

The Dawgs have a history of scheduling some of the BEST OOC games of any team in the conference.

really…when?? Colorado? Coastal Carolina? forgot, NM State is considered a national power. Boise counts, but it only highlights the fact that Georgia chokes in big games. Remember West Virginia? Yeah, you beat up the powerhouse from Hawaii…big time win that was…Lets not forget less than a year ago UCF spanked that behind. Joke program, successful only when rest of conference is down. 1980! haha! opponents had a 37% winning percentage! Even your titles are tainted with the stench of your opponents weakness. Evans had you guys on the path to at least some national repect by scheduling better ooc games, but Richt kept losing the games. (Colorado, OK State) Face facts dawg fans, you are a mid-pack SEC program.

Thanks TampaDawg for the response! I guess if they get there we will see how good the defense really is. From reading this blog, this team couldn’t beat MS State, FL, NMST, or AU according to some. I hope the team that GA faces, underestimates them like so many others. Now, of course I don’t want to get my hopes up and be disappointed, but I think they have the ability to beat any team they face.
