Fan talk: How would late-season Dawgs match up with Boise State?

The Dogs looked bad in those awful uniforms and played even worse when they met Boise State. How would they do now? (Brand Sanderlin / AJC)

The Dogs looked bad in those awful uniforms and played even worse when they met Boise State. How would they do now? (Brand Sanderlin / AJC)

As we gear up for the renewal of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, it’s time to answer some Junkyard Mail. …

Clark Colwell writes: Bill, I know it doesn’t mean much now, but I can’t help but wonder. If UGA played Boise State now instead of at the beginning of the season what kind of game do you think we would see? The defense is without question much better now. Team confidence is much higher. [Aaron] Murray and the offense are playing better. What do you think?

Georgia clearly played its worst game against the Broncos at the Georgia Dome to open the season and is a much better team now than it was then. Boise’s a really good team and clearly is still the best the Dogs have faced this season. But I think if they met now, it would be a much closer game. Vince Dooley said the other day that “if we played Boise State four times … maybe we’ll beat them once.” I think the odds might be a bit better than that. I’d take Georgia in an upset if they played now. Especially if the Dogs weren’t dressed like Power Rangers.

Chad Moon writes: Hello Bill, love your blog. I was born and raised a Bulldawg fan living just outside of Athens in Winterville. Oglethorpe County Class of ’92. But I now call Shreveport, Louisiana, home. My question to you is this … how crazy of a notion would it be for CMR to be named the SEC Coach of the Year? Saban, Miles, and that team quitter coach in Arkansas were all “supposed” to have good if not great teams this year anyway, right? After starting 0-2 everyone outside of the Bulldawg Nation had written off the Dawgs; but here they are at 7-2, (6-1) seven straight victories later. Granted, the teams they have beaten don’t have the most impressive records and Georgia hasn’t had to play the big three from the West Division, but you can only play the teams that fall into your schedule, right? I stand on my soap box now and declare IF Georgia wins the East division and goes to Atlanta that CMR should win the SEC Coach of the Year Award. What are your thoughts?

ESPN.com’s Chris Low doesn’t think it’s such a crazy idea. In his latest SEC superlatives tracker, he lists potential SEC coach of the year candidates as: 1. Les Miles, LSU. 2. Mark Richt, Georgia. 3. James Franklin, Vanderbilt. Assuming LSU wins out, I think Miles is probably a lock, even if Georgia wins the East. But if the Dogs were somehow to win the conference championship, I believe Richt would be the likely winner of coach of the year honors for his team’s remarkable turnaround from an 0-2 start. And he would deserve it.

Lucas Golub writes: Hey Bill, any chance there’s a fan Blackout of the Auburn game? I hate it when the team messes around with the uniform colors, but I love the visual of the whole stadium in black as well as the symbolism of solidarity and support for the team. This would be the perfect way to show the nation that Richt’s seat isn’t nearly as hot as the media has tried to make it all year and that the Bulldawg Nation is behind this team 100%.

Richt hasn’t called for a Blackout and I don’t think he’s likely to at this late stage. And so far I haven’t seen any fan momentum for one, either. While I like the black jerseys on the players, I think the whole Blackout thing involving the crowd was overdone. Georgia fans just getting there early and staying loud for the whole game is what Richt and the team need from us Saturday.

Hal Welch writes: Bill, just finished reading the mail blog again. In particular the part on [Isaiah] Crowell. A couple things people need to know and keep in mind when questioning his conditioning/toughness, etc. were the injury last year and the badly bruised rib in the Carolina game that the staff worried might even be cracked initially. He played the next week with the bad ribs, gathering some toughness votes from me. But beyond that, if you’ve never had a bruised/cracked rib what you need to know is that you just about cannot breathe, certainly can’t get a deep breath without extreme pain, so he probably did suffer some conditioning fallback there. In addition to that, the new high speed offense (which we begged for since David Greene left) is rattling off nearly 20 more plays a game than before. Crowell could carry the ball 25-30 times a game, which is a workhorse’s load, and still be off the field for 50+ plays. Give the kid a break (not you, other fans). Let’s let him get a full season under his belt. At one point a couple weeks back he was actually on a higher pace thru 6 games than [Marcus] Lattimore was in his freshman year according to another reporter I follow. Let’s not run him off and sour him before he turns 19, OK. GO DAWGS!

I agree that it’s way too early to be judging Crowell on anything other than his obvious lack of maturity. And you’re right about the nagging injuries holding him back. Let’s let him finish his first season before drawing any conclusions. And I still feel a whole lot better about Georgia’s offensive chances when he’s on the field!

Sands Orris writes: Why did [Mike] Bobo not start [Brandon] Harton at tailback the first series [against New Mexico State]? The kid works hard all season and finally gets his chance to start and they put [Branden] Smith back there. Just not cool!

I’m not sure why Smith started at tailback over Harton, but I think it likely was because he’s more experienced, even as a part-time offensive player. Bobo didn’t wait too long to give Harton the ball and didn’t hesitate to come back to him even after he fumbled on his first carry (which was still a terrific, extra-effort run). So I don’t think it was a knock on Harton that Smith started.

Steve Segrest writes: Hi Bill, could you write about our D.E.’s, they appear to be having very good seasons — but they rarely get any press compared to N.G.’s, LB’s, and secondary. Are they pro football material?

While the linebackers and defensive backs lead the Dogs in tackles made so far this season, the defensive ends have both been solid. Abry Jones is seventh on team with 15 solo tackles, 13 assists and four tackles for loss (sixth on team in that category). I don’t really follow NFL scouting, but I know some observers think he has pro potential. The other DE, DeAngelo Tyson, is 10th on the team with 11 tackles and nine assists (3.5 tackles for loss, good for eighth on team). I’ve seen him on some NFL watch lists as a player who could compete for a backup tackle job in the pros. Combined with John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers at nose guard, Jones and Tyson have given the Dogs a much improved defensive front this season, particularly against the run. It would be nice to see them create a bit more pressure on the quarterback, though.

Jeff Walker writes: What ever happened to Ken Malcome as far as talent? Last year Coach Richt said there were times he wished he had put him in, and pulled his redshirt. Now we hear about him in all this trouble with the other backs. I was just wondering was he out because of an injury or just didn’t produce this past off season?

Malcome is a bit of a mystery. He was plagued by nagging injuries but even when he has been healthy he obviously hasn’t impressed the coaching staff and was passed on the depth chart by Harton. The abortive departure from the team and now the recent suspension certainly haven’t improved his standing. You’ve got to wonder if he might not consider transferring after this season.

Sonya Graham writes: Can you tell me the best spot to tailgate?

It depends on whether you’re willing to haul your tailgating gear onto campus or prefer to eat near where you park. If it’s the latter, any of the church or school lots selling game day parking near campus are a good bet. But if you want to be actually on campus, the choicest spots are along Lumpkin Street and in the Meyers quadrangle, which has become ground zero for tailgating since the restrictions on North Campus drove most tailgaters out of that former hot spot.

Billy Johnson writes: Hi Bill. A few years ago I remember reading somewhere about expansion thoughts at Sanford Stadium. I know they mentioned not wanting to block the bridge in any expansion plans. I think they had talked about drawing up a plan to leave a gap for the bridge to still be visible, but closing in that end by building above that and having kind of a cut-out for the bridge. Have you heard anything else about any of this? I know we lose a lot of crowd noise (which we really need at home games) by having that end of the stadium open. I think AD Greg McGarity has noticed some issues with our lack of noise by tinkering with the band and student sections.

Actually, the long-range seating expansion plans unveiled in 2008 were for the east end of the stadium, not the bridge end, though I know someone did draw up a mock-up for an expansion that would allow a “window” into the stadium at the bridge end. Problem is, it would ruin the view out of the stadium, which UGA officials have indicated they’d like to preserve. So apparently if and when they get around to it, they’ll add more suites and upper level seating on the east side. The proposed addition would bring the stadium’s capacity to 101,766. No word on when they might get to this plan.

John from Cairo writes: We have the best look in football, but I’d wear white pants with red jerseys and red pants with white jerseys (Herschel in Tennessee). Can the silver britches.

Wash out your mouth! Got to disagree with you about the silver britches, though I wouldn’t mind the occasional revival of the red pants for road games. (They still look good in those clips of Herschel Walker wearing them as he plows over Bill Bates!)

Obviously, it doesn’t matter. We had a chance to vault ourselves into the national picture after a terrible season and it appeared that the coaching staff didn’t even bother to prepare for Boise St.

UGA football stadium expansion sounds nice, so long as the Dawgs fans are sure to sell them out.

I think UGA would play Boise State better now, but I also thought they’d beat Boise the first time around (because they have the talent to do so). Still, we should recall that UGA hasn’t beat a single quality team yet, and their performances against Auburn and Ga Tech will be the most revealing. I’m optimistic, but calling Richt a possible Coach of the Year would be a real injustice to the other great coaches in the league until Richt finishes the drill. Frankly, if UGA doesn’t win the SEC championship, I don’t think he’ll have earned such an honor. I like the resurgence in UGA’s confidence though and wish him well.

It would be a closer game, but the difference is experience and QB play and in both areas Boise St. has the edge. Personally, I think they deserve a shot at the National Title. We won’t know how for real Boise’s program is until they get an opportunity at that final test. I think Boise St. can play with any team in America. Their QB is off the chain. His completion percentage is insane.

Hate to say it, but have to agree w/coach Dooley that BSU would beat GA again. Those guys could play blind folded and play on instinct alone and win. They are that good IMO. Would like to see a rematch in a bowl game and could happen if UGA wins out.

Bill, thanks for always looking backwards. You have confirmed that everyone in this program always looks back (i.e. 1980, Lindsey Scott, Buck Belue, etc.) and no one ever looks forward.

As an update, Boise was ranked, beat the crap out of you, and yes, you would lose again. All of your wins this year are against unranked teams, you might squeak by Auburn, but the chances are slim and none, with slim going out the door.

It will not matter who Ole Miss lands as a coach, players want no part of that program. What top talented player wants to go to Ole Miss, when they can go to Auburn, LSU, Alabama, FSU, or even Arkansas. The Miss programs have struggled for years, because they are the bush league teams of the SEC.

Dawg48,

Thats a good question. They opened up the wallet a little for Nut and that did not pay off. They may find themselves with more of a headache than what its worth with Leach. While a great X’s and O’s coach he found himself in hot water several times, not just the closet incident that led to his departure. The Malzahn hire would be the best but again as DawginLex mentioned would he leave for another West Division team? Hince they may go after a young high calibur assistant. The OC in TT runs the same offense that Leach ran while in TT and would come without the baggage and save the boosters probably 2 million a year. He just will not have that “sexxy” name attached to the hire.

If you cannot take a little zinger then you might wanna stop blogging. Lighten up big guy. You do not think I realize how bad a team you have? We have put up with it for 18 outta 21 years so some perspective is in order when you get a shot at ya its all in good nature.

SSIgator, it’s funny you know so much about blazing it up, in fact wasn’t hard to google your teams recent history of it.

“Florida finds itself as another news headline in the NFL’s evaluation of such players after Hernandez becomes the second Gator in as many years to be branded with the ‘character issues’ label smoking marijuana brings. Percy Harvin flunked his marijuana test at the NFL Combine, but the Vikings didn’t hesitate taking him in the first round of the 2009 draft. Hernandez fell to the New England Patriots in the fourth round.

At least one player defends Meyer’s efforts to curb drug use at Florida, even if there has been a lot of ground to cover over the years.

Wondy Pierre-Louis, a Gators cornerback from 2006-09, said Meyer instilled fear in his players about smoking marijuana and often threatened to kick players off the team in meetings and huddles.

Pierre-Louis estimates about 75 percent of the 2006 team smoked marijuana based on internal talk among players and teammates posting positive tests. Pierre-Louis refused to estimate the current percentage since he says Meyer has significantly reduced the drug use on the team.”

Blackout for Auburn- there is a very good reason CMR hasnt mentioned it- we are fed up with gimmicks….dont you get it- this team needs to worry about playing the NEXT game…not how fancy they dress or dance. If you need gimmicks to play for the SEC East- something is very wrong. Back to the subject of this blog.

UGA would be more competitive against Boise this time, since the young kids have progressed more every week, and the team seems pretty decent except in our special teams play. I still think we would have to contend with dink passes over the middle by Boise, but I think our LB’s and safeties have come a long way in that area, and would do a much better job this time around. UGA’s OL, has done fairly well, now that they are settled into their blocking schemes better, so I am pretty sure, they could limit the DE’s Boise has to a certain extent. The key to the game might be how well UGA could run with the ball.
Having said that, I think UGA would be a more seasoned team and be prepared to play. Whether or not they are ready for Boise’s team I am not sure, but I think they could give them a pretty fair game. Boise’s does have 25, 5th year seniors on their team and that is a lot of experience. It most likely would come down to coaching, and our OC might not be up to the task. It would be fun to watch though.
Any way, we need to beat Auburn in order to see Atlanta again this year, so let’s GATA DAWGS and show up ready to play and win.

And if UGA wins 10 straight games, beats Auburn, beats Tech, goes to the SEC Championship, what then? Mighty impressive turnaround from a disastrous season and 0 – 2 start, despite the strength of schedule. Don’t forget that UGA could easily be one of those teams we beat with losing records if they fell apart like last season. Bill,

Great question, and I think the answer is obvious….UGA would blow them out of the building just like Va. Tech would have destroyed Boise late last season as well. See, while Boise doesn’t have the advantage of receiving the top athletes to come out of high school every year, they also do not have the disadvantage of having to break in at least 10 new starters or contributors either.

Boise has 18 5th year seniors on their team this year and no telling how many regular seniors. That is a HUGE advantage going into a first game of the year while you are facing a team that is playing true freshmen and redshirt freshmen. Heck, even Jarvis Jones was basically a freshman in that first game.

Having a team full of 22-24 year olds that are well coached and well prepared gives a team the advantage going up against a maybe more talented team, but a team that is playing a bunch of 18-20 year olds who are getting their first taste of college football.

Chip,

Do you feel this program has taken advantage of a SEC Title in 2002 and 2005? Are we “THAT” much better having won those?

Now in 2007 after taking two loses on the chin to USC and UT are we any better now than those 4 straight seasons of 8 wins with Jim Donnan?

At this point I have to say no and this staff is squarely to blame. I am not flip flopping, but have deiceided to take the blinders off. In to many games UGA has been manhandled on the OL/DL and out schemed as well. The recruiting the past 3 seasons seems to have been a flop. As a blogger mentioned how many 1st round picks do you see on the field? The talent is not there.

Chip, 1980 was along time ago. 2002 helped alot of wounds for the UGA Nation. We cannot go another 25 years or for that fact another 5. The time is now. When you couple that with the quick success of Meyers,Stoops and Carroll I think it is fair to question Richt and the direction of this program midway through year 7.

Predicting who will be a 1st round pick for the NFL is difficult but I would bet there are a few on UGA’s roster with the potential.

First, remember that this team is young with few seniors. How about Tyson (SR), Gaethers, Jenkins and Jones just to name some defensive linemen with the potential. Ogletree and Drew should be on the list with Jones (SR), Glenn (SR) and Crowell on offense. Boykin (SR) has the potential as well except few DBs are ever chosen in the first round. How about some of the receivers like Charles, Rome, Mitchell and Conley?

I love how people criticize young talent. So many dawgs are young with their future ahead of them. Who would have predicted Moreno his freshman year? No many.

I chose to four years after that post look to the positives I see in the program. Plenty of young talent in key positions. I see good things moving forward with this program. CMR has arisen from his nap it appears and righted the ship. I understand what you are saying, but I really don’t think the fans at UM, MSU, Vandy, and UT are seriously wishing for a rematch with UGA.

Timing means a lot…if UF had played UGA before Brantley was hurt, I think the Gators may have won. Likewise, BSU was the better prepared team in game 1 and was much more experienced as previous posters have stated, but I really don’t think they would beat UGA if the game is played today.

Anyway, the “ifs” dont’ matter now…and the Dawgs are in a great position to go for an SEC championship, which is pretty darn good.

Blogs are for opinions and my personal opinion is that if UGA played BSU again it would be a much better matchup. Obviously most of our playmakers are young and they were really young for the first game of the season. This season feels alot like 2007 in that we had two bad early season losses and then rebounded after Tennessee and were one of the best teams in the country at season’s end. The Boise and S.C. games are water under the bridge. I suppose it’s fun to speculate; but that’s all it is. Serves no other purpose when it’s time to GATA against Awbun.

Yes, IF we were to win the SEC, coach Richt should definitely win C. of the Year. Big IF. Come to think of it, if we were to win out and lose in the SEC CG, he should still be considered just because we started 0-2 and finished so well. So many IFs involved.

Yes, not much of chance for a ‘fan blackout’. I’d much prefer the traditional sea of red.

Speaking of tradition, heck no! to red britches. Either white or silver, always. Never black nor red!

RE: Crowell. Yes, he had the ribs thing; then he had the blow to the wrist thing. That was a ‘ball security’ issue also; and it lingered for a game or two. Then he had the suspension. Speculation about Crowell’s physical fitness or toughness was and is uncalled for, and just speculation and negativity. Couldn’t agree with you more, Bill, when you wrote, “…And you’re right about the nagging injuries holding him back. Let’s let him finish his first season before drawing any conclusions. And I still feel a whole lot better about Georgia’s offensive chances when he’s on the field!…” And, yes, B. Smith got the first play just for his experience and the fact that he can (did) make big plays. Harton got the call soon thereafter. Harton’s excellent play does not make him a starter when the starter returns from injury nor suspension.

Only the coaches know what’s up with K. Malcome. If he were tearing it up during practice, I betcha he’d be out there.

Yall do know that Awbun has improved also over the last few games. AND they had the bye week to get ready. The oldest rivalry in the Deep South should be a great, tough-fought game.

Go Dawgs! GATA!

Get your facts straight

I said earlier this summer that UGA should go 11-1 due to their schedule

but most likely I expected as usual under Richt and Bobo would probably lose 4 games Auburn POSSIBLY one of them; They lost 2 so far and the season isnt over yet and they barely got by Vandy and FL by the way

My understanding is that every home and home in the conference which was supposed to start next year will be delayed to accommodate the new teams, so nobody is ducking anybody…No other way to get a full SEC slate for the new guys otherwise….My bet is on Malcome announcing a transfer in January, especially if we get the RB recruits we are in the hunt for…

The critiques of Murray up to this point are a little unfair. There is no doubt that Murray had an awful game against USC in the second game of the year. But Murray’s best rb and two best receivers are true freshman! Plus our Oline hasn’t been great the last two years. Last year was Murray’s first year and was a historically bad year by UGA’s standards. Let’s see how the last 3 games play out, plus hopefully the SEC Championship Game before we bury a Sophomore.

I’d like to see us match up with Boise again. I think Boise would probably still win based on what happened in the first game, but it would be interesting to see how far the Offense has come since the first game. I didn’t think we played awful on defense that game. . . held them down for a while but too many 3-and-outs on the other side of the ball didn’t help them.

Look if you want to sight see during the game then stay outside the stadium. The stadium being closed in would make it a serious home field advantage. Look at places like knoxville and the swamp because noise doesn’t escape at those stadiums. The 600 sections at Georgia are a disaster. Don’t add on to that.

Let’s not all be fools here. Boise State would still beat us, even today, maybe even more handily than before since they are cranking on all cylinders at this point and our offense still can’t put a team away. Our offense is not tough enough to score more than Boise would. Our defense is a lot tougher now, but the inept play calling by Bobo doesn’t allow us to keep up with them on the scoreboard. It stinks to know this, but it’s what we have, and we have to continue to plug away at the SEC Championship berth and hope for the best.

I think that UGA would beat Boise if they played them in Sanford Stadium. On a neutral field they would still lose. UGA is much more talented and has greatly improved and I doubt Boise has improved much against their schedule and because they didn’t have much room to improve. However, I still think that Boise would out game plan UGA and make better adjustments.

I think Florida beats South Carolina. Everybody knows Georgia should have won that game by 3 touchdowns. Even Spurrier admitted Georgia out played them. If they had not had Lattimore to help run out the clock Georgia would have won by 5 touchdowns with no turn overs. Conner Shaw should not be playing because he is hurt and his brain needs to heal , Garcia and Lattimore are gone. Florida has enough play makers to beat South Carolina by 2 touchdowns.
Georgia should go to Atlanta whether they beat Auburn or not but I hate backing into the East championship . So if Florida does beat South Carolina we will know it before the Georgia game starts. I hope the Georgia players will not let down if Florida wins. We need to beat Auburn.

First of all I would argue Georiga played its worst game of the season against South Carolina. Also, what evidence is there that Georgia has improved since the Boise State game? The offense looks no different to me… it is still inconsistent and perhaps the defense has looked better due to the schedule strength.

Now I will say I think the game could be closer if they played again, mostly because Boise State’s run game has been struggling lately and I would hope Grantham could scheme better the second go around… but not because I think overall Georgia looks better.

Agree w/ other posters that while we have improved, BSU has doubtless improved as well. They had a very, very experienced team and it showed.

No point is speculating on the past. If we play to our strengths I believe we will beat AU but I’m growing a tad concerned with all the congratulatory discussions about our record and speculation about the SEC East, the SECCG and Richt as COTY.

We have played well since BSU despite the level of competition. We have improved, BUT, As CMR said this week, we haven’t arrived (not sure you ever do). We must play hungry and play our best every time out. If we can do that, the SEC East and anything else will sort itself out.

There have been plenty of inexplicable outcomes in this rivalry on both sides over the last 30 years. Better bring it on Sat. Better focus on today, not tomorrow.

Lack of coachs being prepared for the game. If we had done some preparation we migjht have won the game. RICHT has a long history of not being prepared. And as a quote from this paper, he only had 8 months to prepare. Georgia has fallen from the elite, to the middle and now below that. We have beaten nobody that is good. Almost lost to Vaandy. This is not a good football team. Yes, LSU will eat us alive should we make the game. And athe baad news is it’s only going to get worse, this years recruiting class shapes up as a disaster. Uga would have a much better chance of beating Bosie now than the first game of the season. I think it would be a game that could go either way but I would not like to see a re-match of it anymore than i would want to see a Alabama/LSU re-match. Bosie has a long row to hoe to get into the National Title game because the poweres to be do not want them there. This is why there should be a plus one system where 1 plays 3 and 2 plays 4 then the winners play the National Title game. As lones as the powers to be keep teams like Bosie out of the picture they can never be proven wrong. In my book if the NC game was played today I think Bosie and Stanford would be a heck of a game. As for Ole Miss what difference does it really make. The names will change but the results will be the same, don’t believe that just look at South Carolina. The real question is who will take over at Pen State next year. You think the Board of Trustees thought that they will not find someone who will work and give half their salary back to the school like Joe Pa did.

November 10th, 2011

If Akeem Dent said he was extremely difficult to bring down last year, singling Malcome out of the pack, he has to have some talent. They were real high on his talent in the Spring and he ran very hard. I wouldn’t expect Malcome to transfer, Bill. Why would you make a bad suggestion like that? Malcome may have a bad attitude, but remember Richt almost benched Ware and several other superb tailbacks–Ware go little playing time in junior year, and he moved on to the NFL, where he made the Giants and has done quite well when they have run him (mostly preseason). I think they know that if they want Malcome to stay, they better give him a chance. And, I suspect they want him to stay, so I think we will see him Sat or against UK, assuming he doesn’t have such a bad attitude that they can’t play him. They see a lot we don’t, but remember they want to win and Malcome was probably our most talented back last year. Did he forget how to run?

No carries for fullbacks

Nine games into the season, Georgia’s fullbacks have not recorded a rushing attempt. That’s unusual for the Bulldogs, who over the years have produced top-shelf fullbacks such as Brannan Southerland, Shaun Chapas, Fred Munzenmaier and J.T. Wall.

However, the Bulldogs entered the season manning the position with Bruce Figgins, a converted tight end, and Zander Ogletree, who was primarily a defensive player in high school.

“We’ve been a little reluctant to hand it to them,” Richt admitted. “We were a little leery of doing that. In hindsight, if I had camp to do over I probably would have worked Bruce and Zander harder on some fullback runs.”

Figgins does have six receptions of 81 yards.

Are we recruiting a full back since our two apparently can’t put two hands around the football and run forward….Good Grief!!!

Look what GA did to New Mexico State (42 Pts in the second quarter). If Richt had left the first string offense and defense in the second half in, the score could have been 80-3. New Mexico State is the quality of team Boise State plays week in and week out. They (BS) are hugely overrated!

This is typical garbage… who care about now? UGA needed to beat BSU 2 months ago…it’s meaningless now. Two months ago UGA was sloppy and unprepared…they don’t even get to have this conversation…They lost. end. of. story.

Late season dawgs would beat SC but probably not BSU. Although, the problem was primarily game plan on the doggies part, BSU is simply a more experienced and far more disciplined team.

Boise State proved to me they are a great team. UGA has improved steadily and could certainly give them a better game but I would not be surprised if we lost the rematch. Aaron Murray is the best in the SEC but he’s not as capable as Kellen Moore.

You might as well give up on the Dooley family, now that their son is trying to coach UT. I think their allegiance is totally gone from UGA.

Could Georgia defeat Boise State now? Not from what I saw in the Vandy and Florida games. They barely won those. I am just hoping we can hang on and keep barely winning games against the teams we still have to play. Thank goodness we don’t have to play any strong teams.

“As the graduate assistant entered the locker doors, he was surprised to find the lights and showers on. He then heard, rhythmic, slapping sounds. He believed the sounds to be those of sexual activity. As the graduate assistant put his sneakers into his locker, he looked into the shower. He saw a naked boy, Victim 2, whose age he estimated to be 10 years old, with his hands up against the wall, being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky. The graduate assistant was shocked but noticed that Victim 2 and Sandusky saw him. The graduate assistant left immediately, distraught.”

I hope Murry finally wins a big game….plays well against the weak team….can’t have a 0-15 in the fourth qtr against AU or we will loose…….can’t miss wide open recievers…….GO DAwgs!

We had our shot and Richt had months to prepare for Boise St and he sent out the most ill prepared UGA team i have seen in years. Boys please stop drinking the Kool-Aide. If UGA had Florida or Mississippi States schedule we would be shopping head coaches right now.
On to a happier thought. With Richt as our coach there is no chance of UGA willing a national championship but there is also no chance of something like Penn State or Ohio State happening either.

Sands Orris-Smith scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Why would you question starting him in the backfield when he scored the first/long touchdown? Sure Harton was great and I hope to see more of him. But come on!

How many Freshmen do you think Georgia play’s every game, now. I would guess at least 12 . When these players came in this summer they could not take one snap until August. All they could do was run and weight training. They had one month to completely learn the play book and learn all their assignments. Georgia is a very young team and would do a million times better than they did the first time against Boise State whose team was made up of a lot of senior’s.

By your prediction you seem to indicate that Boise State could actually beat LSU. LSU would destroy Boise State. LSU would blitz on every play and with LSU having about three of their defensive back’s all going in the first two rounds of the draft would stop Moore cold. The game would be another Hawaii-Georgia result.

It doesn’t matter how much higher in the rankings Alabama or LSU is than Georgia they always have a hard time with Georgia for some reason. I call it the Florida symptom. Do not write off Georgia against LSU or Alabama. It will be a lot closer than you think.

O-line … none, D-line … none linebackers … none secondary … none Don’t get me wrong i think Boise St is a good football team. To answer your 9:35, I think a team develops the personality of the coach. For us that would be CMR and Bobo on offense and Grantham’s personality on defense. Every team that play’s us next year will dread going against our defense.

That’s the point that I was making our Freshmen were not ready the first time we played Boise State and the ones that played didn’t have much of a impact. Now is different. What has made Georgia a much better team is the contribution of first year players and our Freshmen class. We could very easily state with Boise State now . I bet Vegas would not have them favored.

Can the silver britches? NEVER! Our uni’s are the best in football.

The only change in them that I have liked is the black jersey’s. I’d be in favor of using them for 1 big home game a year.

Thomas Brown…and anyone else who continually, ad nausea, rant about cupcakes…

Boise: UGA, Toledo, Tulsa, Nev, Fres St, Col St, Air Force, UNLV, TCU, S.Diego St, Wy, New Mex
One ranked team, UGA; otherwise all cupcakes. Wait…you’d consider UGA a cup cake too, I’m sure.

S.Car: E Car, Navy, Citadel

Bama: Kent St, N. Tex, Ga Southern

LSU: Northwestern St, W. Kentucky. One of the toughest skeds with Oregon, W. Va as OOC games

Flawduh: Fl Atlantic, UAB, Furman

Awbun: Utah St, Fl Atlantic, Samford

Ark: Mizzou St, N. Mex, Troy

Tex A&M: SMU, Idaho, Baylor, Iowa St, Kansas

Texas: Rice, Iowa St, Kansas, Baylor, UCLA

Stanford: S.Jose St, Duke, Ariz, UCLA, Wash St, Oreg St, Cal, N.Dame

Ohio St: Akron, Toledo, Ind, Purdue

Just shows to go, even most ‘big time’ programs have cupcakes. Some more than others. Some even
lose to em, like the Sooners losing to Tex Tech.

Since you love LSU (and Bama) so much, it’d be nice if you’d change your “allegiance” to one of them and lend your superior expertise to that program.

Sorry for getting off topic, other Bulldog fans. I couldn’t help it.

Boise is a great team. Boise is not in the SEC. SEC would beat them up every week. Boise’s Schedule is too easy. The Dawgs are still having trouble covering the middle of the field. Boise killed us with the TE pass up the middle. The Dawgs still are not getting enough pressure on qbs. Fl game was better. We never got to NMs qbs with our big line. Ga has a big DL. A DL that is good at stopping run at times, but not qb pressure.
