What worries you most as the Dogs head to Knoxville?

The poor play of Georgia's offensive line in pass protection is affecting Aaron Murray (Associated Press)

As the Bulldogs prepare to journey up to Rocky Top, what worries you most as a Georgia fan?

Is it the loss of ace pass rusher Cornelius Washington, who might have been expected to apply considerable pressure on Volunteer QB Tyler Bray? Are you remembering how Kellen Moore picked apart the Georgia defense when he wasn’t under any pressure?

Are you fretting about the continuing special teams problems and wondering just what Mark Richt’s going to do if a game comes down to the choice between going for it on fourth down or calling in Blair Walsh and the field goal unit?

Does the fall-off in offensive production in the second half over the past couple of games worry you the most?

Or is it the shaky play of sophomore quarterback Aaron Murray, who threw three more picks Saturday?

Actually, I think most of Murray’s problems, and perhaps even some of the second-half offensive slump, are a result of what worries me most about the Dawgs right now: the poor pass protection by a spotty offensive line that’s overworked because of a severe lack of depth.

It looked to me Saturday like maybe one of the reasons Mike Bobo got conservative in the second half and didn’t make as much use of the spread (where Isaiah Crowell appears to be more effective since he thrives on space) was because he was trying to protect his quarterback with more blockers in the backfield.

In addition to getting sacked a couple of times by the Maroon Bulldogs, Murray was hit hard several times in the first half and he never seemed comfortable in the pocket after that. In fact, a couple of times he seemed so uncomfortable that he hurried passes when he didn’t even have to. Bobo also had Murray rolling out more, which doesn’t appear to help the young quarterback’s accuracy.

And remember the last time this OL played before a really noisy crowd, in the Georgia Dome, and all those false starts? Neyland Stadium will definitely be just as loud, if not more so.

So that’s what concerns me the most as the Dogs head to Knoxville: the deficient OL and the effect it’s having on our quarterback and playcalling.

How about you?

So I guess @theBar is a tech fan .. well, try this, in 2008, UGA beat LSU, Tenn, Auburn, Vandy and SC in the same year. Can Tech say that?

Still@theBAR can’t even count to 14. If he attended Tech, then I’m sure that they’d prefer that he not mention it in public.

No, paying off the players didn’t cost him his job. Alienating stars, running off players who were still PLAYERS, bringing in players who had nothing left. That cost him his job.

I compared UGA’s last 18 SEC games to Tech’s last 18 games. Auburn was a top 10 team the 2 times TECH beat them. Who could Tech beat them all in the same year KNUCKLE HEAD? Teams only have 4 OOC games a year.

@Mike Bobo 17 INT true they are that…and I can’t agree with the need to gut the program completely I prefer to let the season play out and depending on the outcome make changes as needed.

You said it, not me. Besides, in the last 2 years, they only beat a bad MSU team and a bad Vandy team in 2009. The lost to UGA both 2009 and 2010. So what is your argument again?

The last 2 times Tech played Vandy, MSU, & Auburn they are undefeated. 1-3 against UGA and 0-1 LSU. but UGA gets to play the Weak SEC teams all the time. UGA plays Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee as the hard teams. Most of the time it is the lesser of the SEC.

First, my bad on the misread @theBar on the Gruden comment. But you won’t find too many people in Tampa willing to argue in his favor. We felt like we sold our soul when he came in.

Tech sure wasn’t undefeated in 2009 when they played Vandy or MSU. And that year, MSU went 5-7 and Vandy won a whopping 2 games all year.

Just off the top of my head…..TN always gets those freakish athletes. I even trained under a mass monster who was a one time TN tailback, career cut short kinda thing.

These games are blowouts either way.

I can never forget being at my fathers house, watching our dumb-ass defense get torched time and time again, by the same, play-action, roll out, by that has been qb, that had a career day against us and had us lookin’ like we ran the same play forty times in a row.

If the only person it makes sense to is the person that wrote it, the problem is the writer. Especially when you threw that up there after my comment about tech beating a bad Vandy team and a bad MSU team.

“Actually, I think most of Murray’s problems, and perhaps even some of the second-half offensive slump, are a result of what worries me most about the Dawgs right now: the poor pass protection by a spotty offensive line that’s overworked because of a severe lack of depth.”

Unfortunately, the loudest UGA fans have the lowest football IQ. While Murray has made mistakes and needs to protect the ball better, the real problem is that our OTs are awful at pass protection.

They have horrible technique in pass blocking and allow the opposing DEs to routinely speed-rush around them. This was particularly true in the BSU game. To make matters worse, Aaron Murray has a horrible habit of trying to take a 3-5 step drop regardless of whether he is under center or in the shotgun. When he takes his three step drop in the shotgun, he is making it impossible to create a solid pocket and (even worse), he never steps into the pocket to allow the OTs to course-correct. They either need to train Murray or stop using the shotgun.

Not to mention, the last time Tech played Auburn was the 03/05 home and home games. 05 Auburn was a decent team, 03 wasn’t too bad either but they lost 5 games. Did you see Tech canceled the plans they had to play Auburn in 2017/2018 and replaced them with Ole Miss? Awesome.

I’d say Aaron Murray. He’s winless against good teams (0-8 vs. winning teams) usually chokes under pressure. You wonder things like:
1- How many interceptions will he throw this time?
2- How many 3 and outs?
3- How many overthrows to wide open receivers?
4- How many fumbles?

Murray usually finds a way to lose games like this one.

Murray also has slow decision making, he’s taking a lot of sacks for a UGA QB, no one last 4 years has taken 1/2 as many in one year. Not the O-Line’s fault. Sacks take you out of field goal range, take yards off rushing totals, and kill drives.

Anyone that watched the Bama/UF game still wondering about the play before Brantley got hurt? Brantley was going back to pass a Bama player knocked the ball out of his hand the referee threw his marker noting the play was live at that point, no whistle was blown a Bama picked up the ball looked around a couple of team mates stared yelling to him to advance the ball which he then ran into the endzone, where it was ruled a touchdown….the next thing you know UF is lining up with the ball. The announcers are saying they are confused ,Saban is about to lose his mind on the sidelines…the ball is snapped Brantley goes back to pass and is injured…and as far as I can tell no one ever said Boo about what looked to be a Bama fumble recovery and TD….it was strange.
