A few reasons Georgia Bulldogs fans should feel great (or not)

Isaiah Crowell showed some nifty moves again Saturday. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Isaiah Crowell showed some nifty moves again Saturday. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

A few more reflections on why a Georgia Bulldogs fan should feel great after the win over Mississippi State …

Isaiah Crowell might have a long way to go in terms of SEC caliber stamina, and he’s also still looking for his first long touchdown run after Saturday’s apparent 49-yard scamper was ruled out of bounds. But he’s already shown he has the moves to be a big-time running back. His elusiveness on that erstwhile scoring run brought quite a few wows from the crowd. …

The defense continues to impress and improve, breaking up more passes in the past couple of weeks than a Bulldog fan can remember seeing in a long time. …

Brandon Boykin returning punts as well as kickoffs is a smart move on the part of the Georgia coaching staff. He had two nice returns Saturday and it’s a pretty safe bet he’s going to break another long one all the way sometime soon. …

One of the big reasons the D is looking so good lately is Sanders Commings, who against MSU had three tackles, returned a fumble, snagged an interception and broke up two other passes that he almost (and perhaps should have) intercepted, one of which he easily could have scored on. …

It was great seeing Christian Robinson back on the field calling the defensive signals in the two-minute defense and on third downs. …

And thanks to the losses Saturday by South Carolina and Florida, the Dawgs still have more to play for than just pride.

Too bad Cornelius Washington didn't confine his celebrating to the field Saturday. (Brant Sanderlin /AJC)

Too bad Cornelius Washington didn't confine his celebrating to the field Saturday. (Brant Sanderlin /AJC)

Of course, there are also a few reasons for Dogs fans still to feel a bit uneasy …

The continuing struggles of the field goal unit and the second-half disappearing act of the offense for the second straight week. …

The sneaking suspicion that Mark Richt continuing to show a lack of faith in his offense in short-yardage situations might be turning into a self-fulfilling prophecy. At least Richt understood the boos after he opted to go for a field goal on fourth-and-short only to see the kick muffed. “If I was up in the stands, I wouldn’t have too thrilled about those couple of plays either,” he said.

Cornelius Washington’s celebrating of his best game as a Dog lasting a bit too long, resulting in him being suspended for the next two games just as he was really starting to click as a pass-rusher. …

CBS’ Gary Danielson saying that Saturday’s results leave Georgia “in the driver’s seat” in the SEC East. True or not, I’d much rather the Dogs continue operating under the radar of the national sports media for now. …

And after a glorious fall day in Athens, I wasn’t the only fan lamenting that the schedule will keep the Dogs away from Sanford Stadium for the next five weeks, meaning no more home games during the absolutely best month of football weather.

What has you feeling good or not so good about the Dawgs at this point in the season?

UGA folks: get a vote, just ONE vote, in the Coaches Poll and then talk about Tech.

Even DOOK got a vote. LOL.

I go to all the UGA home games with my UGA wife and both teams were about to leave the field after warming up and Missy State just came over and jumped up and down on the G and Mullen just stood there. Also their sorry QB was running his mouth before the game at the UGA players. I guess he got shut up didn’t he?

@GT Joe we are praying your undefeated when we meet, we really are. Beating a undefeated Bug team would be even better than taking the game from the ACC champs was ! And unless you buy a defense soon your not going to beat Clemson for the ACC this year. I hope your 21 point favorites really.

WDE…………..if you only mean UGA then you are correct but if you mean All mid tier SEC teams you maybe right but you define mid tier.
Tech v Uga…………1-9
Tech v Miss St……2-0
Tech v Vandy……..3-0
Tech v LSU………..0-1
Tech v Auburn……2-0

Tech v SEC………8-10
Sounds a lot like UGA v the SEC.
The DAWGS are 8-10 in their last 18 SEC games TOO…………….LMAO

WDE, go ahead and pray on it. Just don’t ask ol’ Richt to pray on it, he’s the kiss of death.

Clemson always starts hot and flames out. Dabo can’t figure out our spread offense, and their offense isn’t that scary.

Heck, I’m hoping you guys win the SEC somehow. Then us and Boise State can say we are SEC champs. How cool would that be, ACC and SEC and BCS champs?

What concerns most folks w/eyeballs and a brain are the blown scoring opportunities in the past 2 games especially 2nd half game naps the offense has been taking. The offense is inconsistent taking two steps forward then one step back. The playcalling on 4th and an INCH against MSU should have been a sneak by the QB. Instead a slow developing handoff to Samual resulted in losing yardage and turning the ball over to MSU. Those type of miscues along w/dropped int’s, throwing int’s for TD’s, way too many missed FG’s, key suspensions, will undoubtedly come back to haunt this team possibly as soon as next w/e in Knoxville. You cannot continue to play like this giving up potential points w/the likes of TN, AU and FL left to play.

This team and its coaches have a ways to go before “they’re in the drivers seat” for the SEC east crown. that is a kiss of death label IMO. Clean up their act and play 60 minutes of FB if you want to look like champions. AL showed us what a good FB team does to win games. Play like they play and brother see what that does for fan confidence.

No one has an inside track in the SEC East.

1. Garcia plays brain dead
2. Murray has yet to beat a team with a winning record.
3. UF has to rely on Jeff Driskel for at least 2 weeks and not even Tebow or Stafford were good as true Freshmen.

“On a positive note Mitchell and Bennett are reminding me of Green and Durham in their freshman years. Still have a ways to go but the potential is there. They will be playmakers.”

Malcolm Mitchell is All-America, right now today. And this offensive coaching staff did not even start him against South Carolina.

@Still@theBar I was responding to another Bug blogger razzing UGA on being mid-tier..I reminded him you are 1-9 in the last 10 vs UGA . And in your heart you know big boy football passed Bugville by when they FLED the SEC..you know it, I know it ,the entire world of college football fans know it. Congrats so far this year your offensive is impressive your defense is somewhat shaky and that may prove costly down the road..but you can’t get much better than 5-0 if you’ve only played 5 games so far.

A two-game suspension for Washington is absolutely NOT appropriate. Considering how many people this irresponsible moron could have killed, dismissal from the team and from the university is the only appropriate action.

This was the 45th arrest of a UGA player in the past four years, with more than half the arrests involving alcohol. If Mark Richt was serious about keeping his players in line, an alcohol-related incident would result in automatic dismissal. Obviously Richt cares too much about his bloated paychecks to take meaningful action.

And by the way, Washington is NOT a kid, he’s 22 and legally an adult. If he can’t act like a responsible adult, get rid of his sorry ass and send him home, where he can stay drunk if he wants.

King I believe you must have you own little UGA cheerleading outfit. Trying to make chicken salad out of chicken you know what!

Right in the middle of the season a starter is driving drunk? Do these players have any respect for the team, their coach the school? Has CMR tought them anything. All coach can say is the player feels bad about it???? UGA has now lost what 14-15 players to eligibilty, suspension, transfer etc. during this offseason and now bleeding into the season. That is almost an entire recruiting season lost! Happened the previos two years also. This program i out of control…….just keep shaking your little PomPoms.

WDE………….That wy i said did you just mean UGA? If other Mid Tier teams we have done well. Auburn when we beat them both time they were top 10 back then. Vandy was bad, but today they look good. MSU is about they same they have been. LSU is not Mid Tier. UGA seems to be Mid Tier the last few years. UGA sould be in the SEC CG. USC will lose, Gators now have a Big injury. the VOLS could prove a player too, but they have a LSU, Bama, and Arkansas. UGA will back into the SEC CG because the rest of the EAST plays the Best of the WEST and UGA does not. You have to admit that too! Right?

B. Rambo has been a pleasant surprise. Playing consistently better this year. When he said a few weeks ago that he thought he could make a difference in the game if able to play against Boise, I thought that was kind of arrogant. But he has shown to be a playmaker with his interceptions.
Speaking of interceptions, it would be nice for our defense to hold onto a few of those passes right in their hands….missed a few pick-six opportunities thus far.
But it’s nice to see defense making interceptions again compared to a few years ago.
Does Rambo lead nation?

Just read this article: http://espn.go.com/colleges/georgia/football/story/_/id/7051462/georgia-bulldogs-see-need-better-second-half

BoBo’s explanation for GA’s 2nd half lapses in last two games. Geez, no wonder this team cannot get better w/this type of coaching. Compare this to Saban’s actions against FL when announcer gary Danialson commented on AL’s leading FL 24-10 but his offense had 2 consecutive series of three and out before telling his OC to put the foot to the pedal again before giving FL the chance to come back and turn this game around in their favor. That’s the difference in the AL’s and the GA’s. It’s COACHING!!! No wonder this GA team cannot return to greatness when its being coached by the likes of Bobo and to some degree CMR.

Too bad Washington didn’t run into a few of the GA bashers on this UGA site.
Seriously, why do these morons come to a UGA blog to act like the retards they are?
If they want to have a normal, constructive dialogue that would be legitimate.
Normal people don’t go over to another teams (which they don’t support) website to spew idiotic, juvenile comments. The idiots that do derive more pleasure from insulting others than get pleasure from their own trivial team they say they support. Get a life.

The D is coming on strong, but the O is a joke and maybe that’s why UGA can’t bring in the big time recruits needed to get the job done. Crowell looks well, but he needs to donate more time to the weightroom and overall conditioning. To become truly great, you have to go the extra mile in the offseason. The playcalling is the pits. Bobo continues to screw up the offense. After the screwups over the past few year, you would think a person will figure out his misstakes. It’s past time for him to go because the O needs an octane boost. A lot of talent on the field but, not in the coaching booth. Richt is going to have to make the call if he wants this team to compete at a high level.
