Dawgs need to get student body back on board

Backup Hutson Mason got some valuable playing time against Coastal Carolina. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Backup Hutson Mason got some valuable playing time against Coastal Carolina. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

A few more thoughts after the third game of the season. …

Well, we finally got the answer to the question, what does it take for UGA not to sell out a game at Sanford Stadium? The answer: An 0-2 start and an FCS opponent with a name most folks can’t pronounce.

The 10,000 or so empty seats at Saturday’s meeting with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers were sort of to be expected at a game like this, but Georgia’s 64-game streak of home sell-outs also ended, with about 800 tickets going unsold. That’s a first for the Mark Richt era.

“I don’t think it’s that big a deal,” said the head coach, who apparently was under the impression the unsold tickets were returned by Coastal Carolina too late for Georgia to sell them. But actually late in the week UGA announced that the tickets it was putting on sale at the last minute were “unclaimed UGA student tickets.”

That’s bothersome. In the past, the students showed up early, stood throughout the game and supported the team no matter what. Saturday was a first step toward getting the Dogs back on track, but I’m afraid it probably will take a victory over a quality SEC opponent to get the student body fired up again.

Other quick hits from Saturday: After two games of the new Redcoat Band pregame routine, I’ve concluded two things: The “spell Georgia” cheer needs to be returned to its traditional spot at the end of the halftime show, and the Redcoats should dump that convoluted version of the “Georgia/Bulldogs” cheer that requires the crowd to wait for the musicians to switch positions on the field. … Mike Bobo’s “hurry up” offense seems to work better when it’s scripted and the team doesn’t have to stand there looking toward the sideline. But they still look most comfortable in the I-formation. … Michael Bennett looks like he’s quickly taking Kris Durham’s spot as Georgia’s possession receiver. … It’s worrisome that the Dogs’ defensive front couldn’t even get sacks against Coastal Carolina. … From the loose way he was carrying the ball on that interception that he ended up fumbling back to the Chanticleers, it’s a good thing Bacarri Rambo isn’t one of the defensive players getting a shot at carrying the ball for the offense. … I hope we see more of Georgia throwing out of the backfield to Isaiah Crowell and Bruce Figgins. That’s a really potent weapon for Bobo. … Aaron Murray looked OK Saturday but doesn’t appear to have completely shaken off his sophomore slump. On the other hand, once Hutson Mason got warmed up, he was delivering some really nice-looking throws. After this season, the Georgia coaching staff is going to face a decision over whether to redshirt Mason and go with Christian LeMay as the backup next year in order to get some more class separation in its quarterbacking corps. … I wonder when the last time was that the Dogs’ “long snappah” and placekicker both recovered fumbles in a game. Kudos to Ty Frix and Blair Walsh for heads-up play Saturday. … I know it was “only” Coastal Carolina, but it was great to see the Dogs stuff a fake punt. Ditto watching Carlton Thomas taking down a pass-rusher who looked to be twice his size. … Oh goody. Now we get to worry about Vandy, too.

…they do not give money – the Dawgs need to get their big money fan base back on board if they want to continue to “thought” of by anybody who gives a rat’s patooty about the football team this year…

And, as far a Hutson is concerned, it is not difficult to look good with”some really nice looking throws” against a tired, third tier opponent…

What a display of immaturity on my part, but it felt good. Anyway, we’ve got to show some cohesion as a team and not stumble around looking lost. Yesterday was an improvement, but I’m not real proud of beating a junior high team.

Unfortunately with Greg McGarrity’s “Florida scheduling philosophy” of 3 patsies out of 7 home games I feel we will see more vacant seats. As a loyal Bulldog alum, season ticket holder and Virginia resident it is hard for me to justify the expense of traveling 1000 miles roundtrip in a weekend three weeks in a row if 3 of the opponents on our schedule are going to be teams of the caliber of Coastal Carolina. While it is hard for me to justify why students can’t crawl out of bed in time to make a 1:00 pm kickoff while living in Athens I would like to see better competition on our home schedule going forward.

One thing that’s made student attendance less is probably the new ticketing system. Ever since they changed it from actual tickets to tickets on the student ID’s it’s not as easy to sell tickets one doesn’t want to someone who does. The new ticket donation system they started this year is what led to those tickets that went on sale at the game. If they still had physical tickets they could have been sold to anyone weeks before the game. Used to be a Facebook group for buying and selling student tickets back in 2008 when I started.

when you have to have your old coach and the president of your school start begging the fan base to support the team and coaches you got some real problems. face it, Richt has done less with more than anyone in the country over the past 3 or 4 years and most of his success is tied to BVG. never have seen anyone with all top 5 to top 10 recruiting classes perform so poorly. cuss the “old ball coach” all you want, but he is right, what happens to all these “players” these 4 and 5 star recruits when they get to Athens?

There is no decision to be made between Mason and LeMay. LeMay would have been the number 1 or 2 qb prospect in the country last season if not for his suspension that led him to chose to sit out his entire Senior year.

Mason had no major offers and was only offered by Georgia because our numbers were getting thin at qb. We needed an insurance policy in case one of their more heralded/talented qb’s get hurt. That is the only scenario where Mason plays much in his UGA career…if Murray or LeMay get hurt.

That might sound harsh, but I don’t mean anything against Mason. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if he wound up transferring to an FCS school for his last two years and doing very well there.

Something that no one wants to hear, but here it is: the UGA student section comes to the game half-drunk already (completely drunk if it’s a night game), and the few decent students are sick of being puked on or getting hit in one of the many drunken brawls. So they don’t come, they stay in their dorms and listen on the radio if they care at all.

you have no idea what you are talking about bill. Uga just started a new penalty system for student tickets.(copied from Alabama) For a very long time the student section has been partially empty for games like this, but the student tickets were just not used. Now, the student tickets must be returned to the school by Wednesday, or you get a strike. Too many strikes = no bowl ticket or tickets the next year.

There was a comment made that the students do not give money. That was a little bit naive. The majority of the student’s parents and grandparents have paid the majority of the costs to fund Georgia and lay the ground work for it’s athletics department. It’s called taxes, tariffs, fines, fees, and anything else the government, federal, state, and local asks you to pay. Of the fans who buy the merchandise, 35-45% of them are students or former students. So since they don’t give money, tell them to not attend Georgia anymore.

On another note, these students are roughly 18-30. And the only way to appease them is regime change. These kids, like all natural born Georgians, think of Georgia football as hard-nosed and containing some of the most talented players in the country in any sport. Our players tend to turn out better in the long run, to include Texas, Florida, and California, who beat us only by quantity ,not quality. They see all these other programs winning titles or at least in contention. Why not Georgia? They owe nothing to CMR. 2005 was ssssoo yesterday. And it ended in a blow out. Facebook wasn’t as popular. Twitter wasn’t even in two states yet. The iphone, ipod, and all the others… nada. Georgia is on par with Arkansas, in their eyes.

JB,

I agree with your schedule prediction, at least for now. I’m going to go 50/50 (instead of the gulp) with the NATS also because they haven’t played anyone. However, if we win half of the 50/50 games we’ll end up with a 6-6 record for the season, bowl eligible but not a good one. Also, in a year when we could truly take the SECE we appear headed to mediocrity again.

If it plays out like that how could CMR remain HC?

I don’t like the changes to the redcoat band. I can understand the move to the end zone so the “whole stadium can hear them”, but it is a problem with the visiting band so close. Don’t like the idea of the student section split and the cheerleaders are one place and band another. And finally, I hate they are not doing the Georgia block at the end of halftime. Are we a HS band and just march off the field? Most college bands do some kind of special “thing” after their show at halftime and now we do it at pregame when most people don’t get to see it. Sometimes tradition is a good thing and shouldn’t be changed.

We have an offensive coordinator who started a converted linebacker over the best running back we’ve seen in a while at UGA for two games. We have commentators who think an offense scoring 42 points (while giving up pretty much 21 through turnovers) against USC is really good (East Carolina had scored 37 the week before). Who cares if students don’t want to watch bad football?

The Only Horses I like Are Under My Hood

September 18th, 2011
9:49 pm

FROM THE VIEW OF A STUDENT:

First of all, I seriously doubt that 10k seats were unoccupied until UGA began to poor it on. It really seemed like the crowed was at least 86k or so but I could be wrong as I could not see the entire stadium from sec 111. The lower student sections were full, minus some small patches near the band.

Secondly, the student ticket policy issued this year is a good thing with the penalty system in place. BUT students should be able to select the home games they wish to attend instead of being forced to buy a full season. Out of 35k students, not all are going to be like myself and really want to attend every home game. Some just care about the big home games. This would also make for fewer split ticket packages for freshman and, in some cases, sophomores, who want to go to all of the games. It is really stupid, however, that with the size of our stadium that not all students receive a full home game package that want a full package.

Thirdly, I know Sanford has a unique structure, but if schools like USCjr and Auburn have student sections that are completely together and in the lower deck…so can UGA. Acoustically, moving the student section and band from the open end zone and moving them to the closed end zone would make Sanford twice as loud as it is now. Take away some visitor seats in the lower bowl and expand UGA student seats in the lower bowl (we give visitors too many lower bowl seats anyway). Maybe some students would still be in the upper level but we need more students unified in one huge section in the lower bowl to make Sanford truly rock like it should.

Lastly, “The “spell Georgia” cheer needs to be returned to its traditional spot at the end of the halftime show” ……are you kidding me? That cheer at halftime does nothing with most fans using the restroom or getting a Coke. After two games, the fans have gotten use to the new pregame routine so against Miss St., it will be loud and sound awesome. TOTALLY agree however with the GEORGIA—BULLDOGS cheer. We do not need to have a 5 minute lag time, do it regularly and it will be deafening like it is when it is preformed at regular speed throughout the game.

Otto

September 18th, 2011
9:52 pm

If I read this correctly the tickets were not claimed by students and then put on sale to the public.

If so it is more than just the students who are not up for the game/season.

The students need more seats down low not in the upper and they need to be in one end zone. After making it a point to travel to multiple SEC stadiums including UT, LSU, Auburn, Bama, and Ole Miss over the past few years. UGA is sadly one of the tamer stadiums. Stundents were being split between the wedge next to the band and some on the bridge end zone a few yers ago, assume it has not changed. Let them have the lower level endzone with the locker room.

UGA screwed up when they kept students from selling their tickets on the open market back after 2008 when demand sent prices through the roof. Now the demand is down and students can’t sell tickets as easily now that all student id’s are scanned. Recent ex-grads used to be able to use their ids and buy tickets from uninterested students with both parties being better off. It doesn’t help that Richt’s team has been in a freefall since the 3rd quarter of the 2008 Tech game.

Gail

September 18th, 2011

Those tickets were actually not unsold tickets. They were already sold to students. If a student couldn’t attend the game, he had to donate, ie they do not get reimbursed amount they already paid, by noon on Wednesday or get a strike for not using the ticket. The tickets then get offered, for free, to other students who did not get a ticket for that game. If those students do not claim the ticket then UGA then sells the ticket again.

That doesn’t mean I have to agree with or like everything they do. I happen to think the spell-Georgia cheer works better at the end of the halftime show. And the Georgia/Bulldogs thing with the band just isn’t working. Second game it was done, the crowd was no closer to catching on and the lag time while the band members reposition themselves ruins the pace of the cheer. I am very glad, though, to have the band down in my end of the stadium now, though having them and the South Carolina band playing at the same time was problematic. Anyway, I love the Redcoats. Ain’t nothing finer in the land!

Hutson Mason looked very, very sharp. And, his pocket management was a thing of beauty. Why is it that so many QB’s think that the way to avoid a rush is to go backwards? And why do some QB’s think that, once they start to run, they can’t throw the ball (assuming they’ve not passed the line).

That kid looked awfully good out there. And I didn’t see him sailing balls 10 yards over a receiver’s head. Murray needs to strap it on and get serious out there. There is a lot of quality at that position. Hey, can any of our QB’s play linebacker? Kidding.

With regard to the split student sections, I’m in Redcoats and heard that the plan is to move the rest of the student section over to connect with the endzone we now play in, and move the away team’s band across to our old area. Just what I’ve been hearing. Also, have to say that more people are probably in the stands for pregame than halftime based on what I’ve seen so more probably get to participate in the Georgia spellout when its in pregame.

800 UGA student tickets returned unsold, and Bill King calls for THEM to do something about it ?

When will we beat a team who finishes in the AP Poll Top 10, since the last time we did that was Six (6) Seasons ago when we lost to a 4-8 Vandie but beat # 9 Auburn.

When will be not get beat by team who finishes the season not ranked in the AP Poll Top 25, since Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” have accomplished this ignoble feat 10 times in 10 years to 10 teams who did not finish in the AP Poll top 25 even with their win over us.

Do both of those and maybe the students will buy their tickets Bill King.

Young UGA team is LIE.

Just as is “this team is on the rise.”

Media Guide for 2011 (white cover with 5 prominent players on the cover – none of whom will be here after this season), shows on Page 10 The

“2011 Depth Chart”

23 Seniors
25 Juniors

We have, if you consider Georgia tek has not played anyone yet and got ranked # 25 last night in the AP Poll for wins over nobodies, one team – whom no one considers any good at all – Florida on the entire remaining schedule.

If we lose to today # 16 Florida, we will have beat – if we beat everyone else – beat NO ONE.

How can you be “on the rise” when to be “on the rise” you have to (1) beat a team who would end the season in the AP Poll Top 25 while at the same time (2) not losing to a bad team who ends the season not ranked in the AP Poll Top 25 even with their win over us

We haven’t done either in the last Six (6) Seasons, and the coach on the hotseat declares we are a team “on the rise” and his Apologists in this blog state “the team is young.”

Hogwash on both.

Tell me again how a team with 23 Seniors and 25 Juniors is a “YOUNG TEAM”

Seriously people I don’t get the whole fire CMR thing. You guys act like UGA was some major power house BEFORE he got there and now he’s bringing UGA down. Look at Dooley’s 24 year coaching career at UGA. Lots of losing and 7-5 years there. It took CMR 9 years to have 1 losing season whereas most new coaches start out with at least 1, maybe 2. It also took Dooley 24 years to have 6/10 win seasons. It took CMR 10 years. UGA fans for whatever reason feel entitled to greatness yet we’ve never really been a great team year in and year out no matter the coach. You fairweather fans also demand greatness but only support your team when they’re winning. 1 losing season and the coach should be fired? CMR is the reason we even got back on the national map! Its because of his 6/10 win seasons. Give the man a break!!! And I know some will say, “well at least Dooley won a National Championship”! In the modern era of football he wouldn’t have done that because he would have been fired after the previous years(1979) 6-5 record! Be careful what you jackholes ask for!

@Golfman42:

Is that really a plan? That would be awesome epecially if they replaced some of the visitor’s lower level seats with student seats. I swear we give the visiting team more lower deck tickets than any other SEC school. It seems like Bama, Florida, and Auburn just give visitors less tickets than we do, and the tickets they do the opponent are sky high. We need to pick up on this concept.

The students aren’t stupid either, who wants to go watch the product on the field right now? The players are given all sorts of perks, early registration, free tuition, segregated dining, access to gyms and trainers, medical support, tutors, beautiful athletic centers, teachers simpathetic to the athletic department and the students are supposed to support 7-9 over two years.

Pathetic.

September 19th, 2011

Also, I don’t feel bad for UGA when anyone can donate and get season tickets. You don’t even have to be an alumnus to get season tickets.

Furthermore, the students are the lifeblood of Sanford Stadium, move them down from the 300 level. Seriously, you want Sanford to be loud and intimidating, put the entire student body from endzone to endzone. UGA will still get it’s donations for tickets and still basically sell out every game.

Also big changes this year. Gates open 90 minutes before not 120. The Redcoat Band moved to the endzone and they don’t play anything until they’re on the field 15 minutes before the game. We had to listen to USCe’s band only two weeks ago.

Changed the pregame routine. Please, just play the Bulldog March Medley, now they’re bucking tradition.

Funny- I agree with most of your post. Watching a subpar product while getting all the perks is frustrating.

Standing has always been a “student thing”. There is a big difference between being 50 and 20 and one day you will understand that.

Putting the “entire student body from endzone to enzone” would be disastrous since 90% of them would be liquored up. Drunk and rowdy is not always a good thing, especially in mass numbers. Also, since I assume you you mean the lower level of this “endzone to endzone” thing where exactly do you plan on putting the alumni or whoever used to be sitting there that was paying 10 times what you paid for your student tickets? Do you think whoever was sitting there is going to pay the same price for their upper level seats? Cany you afford season tickets in the lower level?

President Adams knows that the money comes from alumni who donate money. While your idea sounds fun because you are in college the fact remains that half of Sanford Stadium does not need to be a drunken orgy riot in order to show support of the team.

Good win Dawgs! But what does it really mean? Does it mean we are a contender in the SEC? Probably not. Does it mean we can contend with second tier divison one teams? Probably. Is this where the Dawg Nation wants to be? Probably not. Should we expect more out of the Georgia football program? Yes. Why? 1- one of the top football facilities in the country, 2- great booster and fan contributions and support, 3- great recruiting classes …. just to name a few. The facts speak for themselves, we are trending down, we are not feared in the SEC, we are known as a team which cant finish. LOOK AT THE FACTS…… they cant be disputed….
1-GEORGIA is a combined 0-5 against Top 25 teams in 2010 and 2011
2- GEORGIA has lost 10 of its last 12 against ranked teams. (2-10 record)
3- GEORGIA is now 15-14 in his last 29 games
4-GEORGIA is 6-10 in the past 16 SEC games.
5- GEORGIA is 3-5 in their last 8 games going back to last season
6- GEORGIA has won 1 of it last 4. (and it wasnt a powerhouse we beat today)

I thought the whole thing about bringing in TG, was that he was going to have a much more agressive defense. I mean I see blitzes and things of that nature, but they are being picked up. He also only had a period of mediocrity from 1972 through 1974 followed by a 9-3 season. Times are different now. Mark Richt has FIVE TIMES the talent base to pull from than Dooley had. One other note. Richt has had 11 and 12 game schedules PLUS an SEC Title game three times. Dooley did not have an 11 game schedule until 1971 (he became coach in 1964). Dooley dod not have a losing season until 1977, his 14th season. He also almost always beat a ranked opponent even when he had a middle-of-the-pack team. There is much more inconsistency with Richt’s results, and most of it is because of a very average coaching staff (just my opinion). Apologists and excuse-makers has been a problem with UGA for years, and I am sick of it. There is NO EXCUSE for this program to EVER lose more than four games in a season. None. Just look at the in-State base of talent and tell me how a good coach couldn’t win big.

Good points, Chuck UGA. Dooley also went 11-1 the season before (’71) the bad run, so he built up a lot of goodwill. Dooley always followed a mediocre season or two with a special season. Georgia fans need to accept that Sanford isn’t, and never will be, a snakepit for opponents. The acoustics just aren’t there. And the positioning of students and the band will not change that reality much. I’ve heard 40,000 Georgia fans make more noise in the Gator Bowl than I’ve ever heard 90,000 make in Athens. When Lindsay took it 93 yards in ‘80, it was so loud I couldn’t hear myself yell.

I agree with the paper tickets comment. Go back to paper tickets so the students can sell them if they chose not to attend. Problem solved and the stadium will be full.

The other way to solve the problem is to win. But, no one wants to fire CMR and thus here we are again heading down the 6-6 or 7-5 road.

They say stuff gets worse before it gets better. Last year was “worse” enough for me. Why drag all of us through it again. Should have hired Kirby Smart and this would have been a rebuilding year for the guys. Smart would have been able to keep the dream team together and we would be licking our lips waiting on next year. Now, we have stretched that out to a two year plan…….McGarity this one is on you.

Nobdy was priced out of that game. There were tons of tickets available before the game. Anybody that has attended games would have known.

The attendance at this game was actually much more than I expected after two big weekends of football. People do have lives. These games are always the ones people bring kids to and share there tickets with friends and family. When tons of fans give their tickets to other fans, it reduces the demand for any unsold tickets.

When I was in school (Ray Goof) it was uncommon for students to even get to an early game the end of the first quarter. I think the first come/first serve changes to the student section and the digital tickets are a good thing.

In the past, the student body was made up of 99% americans. Now there is a lot of immigration and foreign student population at UGA. Not that thats a bad thing, but the simple fact is they could care less about football. When I was in pharmacy school there was a fair amount of asian students that signed up and got priority for student tickets to the game. The whole intent was to resell the tickets for a profit. It kinda peeved me… but then again it was their right to buy them and do with them as they wish. But that’s just one example. There is so much diversity in unervisities now that there are many populations that just don’t care for football. Sove even shun it.

Sure we all would have loved to see some sacks against a clearly inferior opponent. The game was clearly put away in the first quarter. The Georgia defense completely dominated CC’s offense. There was no need for a blitzing defense on Sat. Although it would have been nice for the front 3 to have bagged a sack or two. It didn’t happen. Why should students be criticized??? Many freshman and sophomores do not get tickets to all home games. The ticketing system is a debacle!!!!!!! Students all “squeeze in” certain areas because they do not have a physical ticket, but a wrist band. I have a senior and sophomore at Georgia, and if my husband and I did not have season tickets, they would have missed home games during their time there. THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE!! Also, those seasons that the students stood and got there early were basically winning ones. Who wants to go at 10 o’clock in the morning to see a team that is average. I do not believe that Coach Richt is totally committed to winning until we see a c sold out pass rush when our opponent is punting. We have lost 4-5 games during the past 5 years on fake punts. Everyone in the SEC and the nation knows we don’t attempt to block punts anymore. We want to “block” for our punt returner instead. My contention is, if this approach is such a great one why does no pro team (that I am aware of ) use Richt’s non-block the punt approach.! Maybe the pros know that it is shear folly. I would much rather our opponent try to keep us from blocking their punt by leaving “beefer” lineman and heavy duty backs in their backfield to block and then have to run down our speedy punt returner. As it is, our opponents are sending linebackers and speedy safeties and corners after our punt returner. All punt returners know that they are responsible for making 2-3 guys with speed miss them in the return. The second point is, Coach Rcht should be directly involved in all offensive play calling for the rest of the year. My confidence in Mike Bobo’s ability to get the job done has waned. Richt can either become directly involve once again or look for greener pastures. Good man, but has lost his way. Our offense has continued to falter under Bobo. Please, Coach Richt, try calling the offense once again.

To speculate on who a possible coach replacement at this juncture is pure BS.

1- The is no coaching vacancy

2- Candidates do not come out of the woodwork for vacancies that don’t exist

3- who may be a “hot property” now, may not be so hot, if and when such a vacancy does come available.

4- To assume that there are no excellent coaches out there would only be fooling yourself. Of course there are some not so good ones too.

The separation of the Band from the main student seating and the cheerleaders is just plain stupid. This idea came from the main man………Adams. It was done to reduce alcohol consumption. The guy is a total jerk, meet him and you will see.
The tickets should be paper tickets, no ID required. If a student wants to sell his ticket,
sell it.
And why would you not open the gates two hours prior to kickoff.

Maybe if the football team actually consisted of STUDENT-athletes, the student body would be more interested in supporting the team. Instead, we have a bunch of kids who are more interested in dancing before the game than getting ready to actually play the game itself.

Bottom line: it is difficult to get excited about going out to watch a bunch of prima donnas who are more concerned with individual accomplishments than team success.

Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do. And thanks for the kind words about the Redcoat Band.

Ummm, I don’t understand the cupcake argument. Georgie has played two decent teams, lost to both, then beat a cupcake. Georgia Tech is 3-0, which Georgie can’t be due to scheduling and apparent team mediocrity. If it weren’t for a cupcake, wouldn’t Georgie be winless?

As a senior at UGA, I started my college career with high expectations. After starting out as preseason #1 my freshman year, we have sunk to an “average” SEC team. With exception to the Tech game in 2009, we have failed to win a single game we were not supposed to win while I have been in school. To turn it around we HAVE to beat Florida this year. Until Jacksonville, I will just have to pound a few more drinks than usual to keep myself entertained in Sanford.

“What if our players were as wishy washy and heartless as most of you negative nellies on this blog. If you’re a true dawg fan then shut up, hunker down, and lets get behind our coach and our team. If you’re not just shut up!!”

By all means, let’s all just shut up and agree with Mark Richt 13-13 vs SEC East teams after 2005, is a team on the rise. You are the problem with UGA nowadays, settling for mediocrity when he has not beat a team who finished in the AP Poll Top 10 for 6 seasons when he then beat Auburn # 9 but lost 4 games that same year so long ago including to 4-8 Vandie. No wonder you want only your voice to be heard. Go to some CENSORED BLOG.

“bob, There was no need for a blitzing defense on Sat. Although it would have been nice for the front 3 to have bagged a sack or two. It didn’t happen.”

ARdawg, We were told when Mark Richt settled on his pick # 5 as DC that this 3-4 would bring us SACKS. Sacks are not a result of blitzing, they said we would accumulate them from the design of the Defense alone, ARdawg. What we have witnessed – while you sit there trying to make EXCUSES for our abject lack of SACKS since he signed his 1st check for 3 quarters of a million dollars a year.

UGA 2011 NCAA rank for SACKS by our Defense : # 113

We played a soft easy schedule last season and out of 13 games, only 5 ended up ranked teams. We beat NONE of them. So far this season, we have played 2 ranked teams and Florida is the only other at # 16 (since Georgia tek at # 25 obviously will NOT be ranked when the season is over, having beat NO ONE either.) that we play this entire season. We have a SOFTER easier schedule 2011 than we had in 2010. Directly, you can attribute both the loss to Boise State and to South Carolina, on never sacking either Quarterback – while they both SACKED our QB until the cows came home. It LOST both games. So, Saturday vs a 1-AA FCS team, and not a good one at that, we cannot sack their QB even 1 time. And, you can’t run in here FAST ENOUGH to make up your EXCUSES for -0- sacks YET AGAIN Saturday. This is NOT a team on the rise, but a team with fans who are EASY. Great job here. Never get put on the spot by the fans. Fail. Promise one thing deliver the opposite and they will HAVE YOUR BACK, not support the program to do better than we have after 1983. You are the problem we have around here

bad news for Richt…. two of the teams he HAS TO BEAT to go 10-2 are ranked in the top 25….(fla, gt)….. His past recent record doesnt play in his favor…..

I am not settling… I am a Bulldog. I was here before and during this coaching staff and will be here when they’re gone. I an alum and a 31 year season ticket holder. And I don’t leave games early, because I am a Bulldog. All of you whiners can… just go. If you knew as much about football as you think you do, I suspect somebody would be paying you for that knowledge.
Also, the timing of the GEORGIA cheer IS a problem, but so is the positioning… it’s backwards. The student body side has always been the ones to start, not the press box side.

We should beat Ole Miss, New Mexico State, and Kentucky. The rest are toss-ups. FLA will likely be a loss. We could be 9-3 if we play up to our ability and we don’t get outcoached…2 big “ifs.

I agree with “Seriously” about the Georgia/Bulldogs cheer. Can’t whoever put it together recognize that it is not working because of the way it it being done? Backwards and slow do NOT encourage enthusiastic responses. It has now “failed” twice. Fix the thing or shut it down; it is embarrassing.
