UGA fans can show support for the team by showing up Saturday

dog LOGONothing is a sure thing in college football, but Georgia shouldn’t have too much trouble picking up its first win of the season against Coastal Carolina. So the biggest uncertainty about Saturday’s game is whether the game will continue UGA’s string of home sell-outs, and even if it does, how many Dogs fans actually will show up to cheer the team on in a one-sided nonconference match-up.

Unsold tickets to this game keep popping up, first when the opponents returned some and now with unclaimed UGA student tickets going on sale to the general public today. The athletic association says tickets can be purchased prior to 3 p.m. Friday online or by calling the ticket office at 1-877-542-1231.

And tickets will also be sold Saturday at the east end will-call windows beginning at 10 am., which reminds me of those Saturdays of my youth when kids could line up on the morning of a game for cheap “high school” tickets. Unfortunately, there won’t be any discount this time; they’ll still be the full $45.

As for those of us who already have tickets to the game, the decision remains on whether we’ll show up. My wife and I will be there, but several other fans I’ve talked to this week have been undecided about going. After all, it’s only Coastal Carolina.

Yes, but it’s also one of only a half-dozen opportunities this season to see the Dogs play Between the Hedges, and I can’t see passing that up, no matter who the opponent is.

I’m not a big fan of UGA President Michael Adams, but I like how he put it Thursday: “I’d love to see the stadium full Saturday for probably what will not be the most high-profile opponent we’ll play this year. I go to the locker room. I know these young men. I know a number of our student-athletes. We had a heck of an effort last Saturday. There’s nobody here who likes to win more than I do. But it’s time for us as a community to get behind this team, support them from now ’til the end of the season.”

Some fans already have thrown in the towel on this season after only two games, but others are like Eric Zeier and think Georgia can run the table, as Adams urged the players after the South Carolina loss. Whether you’re that optimistic or not, if you call yourself a Georgia Bulldogs fan and you are able to go to Saturday’s game, I hope you’ll do so.

For those who can’t, the game will be televised on a pay-per-view basis. Cable and satellite systems in both Georgia and South Carolina will offer the telecast for $34.95 and commercial establishments may purchase the game for $400, so I imagine most area sports bars will have it on. For viewers in other states, the game will be available on ESPN Gameplan and ESPN3 online; the ESPN feed will be blacked out in Georgia and South Carolina, though fans in those two states will be able to access the broadcast online at georgiadogs.com for the same price as the pay-per-view.

Production of the game will be handled by CSS with Bob Neal doing play by play and Buck Belue as color analyst.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and it should be a fairly glorious fall day with the high expected to be in the mid-70s. The 1971 Bulldogs, led by my old classmate Andy Johnson, will be honored at halftime.

Even at 0-2, it doesn’t get any better than Saturday in Athens. So let’s fill those seats!

Go Dogs!

Yes, the atmosphere will be different for an early start against a patsy – but I’ll be there, and I’m using this opportunity to take my 6 year old daughter to her first game – she’ll be wearing her Georgia Cheerleader outfit, with pom-pom’s ready to cheer on the Dawgs! It’ll be 75 degrees and sunny – why would ANYONE pass up such a beautiful day for a football game where we know we’ll get to see Georgia win?! If you’re staying home and leaving the tickets on your dresser – then shame on you. At least give em to someone who will enjoy it. This is my 120th Georgia game and I love every one of them.

I will be there! My wife is going to a baby shower. The 71 Auburn game vs Sullivan and Beasley was one of the best games I have ever seen. And who can forget the GT game when Andy Johnson led the Dawgs down field and Poulos dived over for the winning TD.

Notre Dame is also 0-2, and they have to play Michigan State. We play…Coastal Carolina. I realize the coaches and players have nothing to do with scheduling, but games like this feel kind of chicken**** to me. Have fun if you’re going, but they’re not getting MY money for this garbage. I haven’t bought season tickets in 15 years and still manage to attend a few home games each year and a Florida game about every 2-3 years. The fans will get what they put up with.

A member of my congregation blessed me with their tickets because they have an engagement out of town and my daughter will join me for this awesome game. We have a split household (UGA & Clemson). She went to the Clemson game last week and now she can get some good ol’ times at Sanford.

And for those people breaking their ankles jumping off the UGA bandwagon: Look for those diehard fans that are around you and let them have your tickets so we can have some real fans show up.

“It’ll be 75 degrees and sunny – why would ANYONE pass up such a beautiful day for a football game where we know we’ll get to see Georgia win?! ”

Seriously? I want to see Georgia win as much as anyone, but the fact that they might lose is what makes it exciting. That nervous excitement starts when you wake up, continues through the tailgating, and builds to a pitch as you arrive at the stadium. Back when you could tune in Munson for the pregame it was even better. No one was more of a nervous wreck than Munson. That’s what makes the hassle with crowds, parking, and the time investment worth it – the tension and anticipation. You were given bang for your buck. Give me the old home-and-home against Clemson anyday.

Bobo did a wonderful job of screwing up the first game as hard as he could. Anyone that thinks otherwise doesn’t know jack sh_t about football. The players played bad as well, and the defense didn’t do great either, but Bobo’s play callling was horrendus. I still think the fans are getting a raw deal on the image front. After a weak Boise St. performance, the fans showed up for USC. I am sure the stadium will be a little lighter than usual. After all, for all the talk about kids, and support, and this, that, the other; deep down this is still a billion dollar industry. The product must be compelling.

As a Georgia fan, I think the compelling story here SHOULD be the play of ALL the young freshmen and red-shirt freshmen we have on the team. Georgia should play as many young players as they can. They should allow Crowell to get the bulk of the carries, Samuels should rest up, and Thomas and Malcom should get some carries.

The young wide receivers should rotate in constantly. The young linebackers…ALL OF THEM…should see some action. At some point, the OL should be littered with young pups. Even the QB position should have a fresh face in the 2nd half.

Richt and Company have failed miserably at building depth on this team in several key areas. Here’s a chance to start the process. Honestly, this week and next week should provide an opportunity to build depth and rest some guys. If we struggle this week or next…hang on tight, cause it will be a bumpy ride.

Regardless of the record, etc., I will always support my Dawgs and our coach. Rather than complain about the 0-2 start, coaching, blah blah blah, I am going to take the opportunity to go to a game we should win and enjoy some time with my little girl. Fortunately for both of us, the obnoxious fans will probably stay home for this one.

Here is something to chew on:

Eighteen of Georgia’s 30 losses since 2003 have been decided by seven points or less. Georgia’s 60 percent is the highest percentage of close losses in the SEC. Alabama is second with 20 of its 35 losses (57.1 percent) by seven points or less.

I do think it is impressive that so many Georgia fans are “standing behind” Rict. I happen to disagree, but I respect the loyalty. There are those that are still posting that we can run the table or go 9-3 this year and they talk about 8-4 like is a minimum number of wins for UGA this year. I have always thought of myself as a glass if half full person, but I just don’t see the liklihood of these scenarios.

I think we can handle Coastal Carolina, partly because I have never even heard of this team. Ole Miss seems like a 60-40 proposition (us being the 60) at best. Yes, I think we are MUCH more talented, but They are playing pretty well and with it being a road game for the Dawgs, think this one is pretty close to a tossup.

I don’t see how we can beat the OTHER bulldogs of MS State. We will likely be outcoached and they have played well, but lost some tough games already this season which I fear is a hump they will get over in Athens. I just don’t see how we will be able to run the ball against their defensive front. I think we have about a 25% chance in this one since we are playing at home and I think we will have to throw the ball 40 plus times a game, so it will be up to Murray to knotch his first win against a quality opponent.

One poster used Bobby Bowden of an example of a coach that could have been fired after struggling for several seasons with bad records and then going on to greatness. Terrible example. FL State was NOTHING before Bowden got there. He had to struggle through 4 years just to allow the good players to get into their living rooms. To compare Fl State when Bowden got there to what Richt took over (UGA was 9-3 and 8-4 prior to Richts arrival and we were LOADED with returning players)… is a comparison that has zero value.

MR has without question has had two consecitive down years, but overall has a winning percentage of .727. The great Nick Saben, probably the best in college footbal at this time, only has a .708 winning percentage. My point is all coaches go through ups and downs. Mark Richt is a very good coach and will get UGA back to the top.

This. Then add on top that Ricth represents me and my alma mater with the upmost class then… It’s going to be a stretch to get rid of him.

1. Do the kids still play hard for him?

2. Is he really a direct problem? (Most of you are too quick to answer this one.)

3. Is he an embarrasment to me and my school?

4. Do we field a competetive team? Do other teams see UGA as an easy W?

Those are the questions I ask myself when deciding if our head coach should be fired.

@DC and others that seem to have the answer..not taking anything away from Coach Mullen, but lets see what is track record is after 10 years as we have with Coach Richt…Its real easy to go after a coach after they have had one successful season or maybe they were an productive OC when they had the best player in college football…not so easy now for MIss St, although they appear to be a good team…Whether a change should or should not be made at UGA doesn’t mean that the next guy will be the answer…Kind of like putting in the 2nd team QB…Everybody wants to see what they can do, but alot of times the results are minimum at best…Pesonally I feel that with the changes that have been made in several areas will pay benefits for the dawgs at some point this season and next to go along with alot of undeveloped talent that we have and will get this recruiting season….When all is said and done we again will get the Number 1 RB in the country along with some other very talented players…The future is bright in my opinion, but unfortunately many of you don’t see the possibilities for this team….but you will be the first to jump back on that bandwagon when things turn around…Wont You?…..Can’t wait for Sat…Will be there as always and support the team, coaches and players…I’ll let our AD and Uga president decide our coaches fate at the end of season….but until then I will be there along with my son and possibly future dawg, but thats a story for another time….go dawgs

This seems like a pretty low standard. With our facilities and recruiting base, we should CONSISTENTLY be amongst the best. Settling for just being a competitive team which is not an easy W for other teams seems like being happy with mediocrity.

half century dawg:

His overall win percentage is impressive, but is only part of the equation. Consider also, that he won only half the SEC games over three yars with AJ Greene (including Stafford and Moreno on the same team one year) and that includes 6 games played against Vandy and KY. That doesn’t look good on the resume.

Goff and Donnan were both fired. They won a combined 2 games against FL during their tenures which spanned 10 years. Richt has won 2 games also in 11 years against the Gators.

These aren’t just random stats that I am spewing in a small sample. The first is a 3 year span (the most current completed 3 year span) and the other is over his entire head coaching career.

02-06 were terrific years. Cracks started forming in 07, INCREDIBLE team of 08 couldn’t win the Eastern conference. Mediocre 09 followed. One of the worst teams of modern UGA football followed in 10 (losses to Central Florida and Colorado and 0 quality wins) and now losers of our 4 of our last 5 games).

There are two sides to the argument.

“Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown, my God, a touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown! Massaqoui!” – Matthew Stafford’s game-winning touchdown pass to Mohamed Massaquoi against Georgia Tech in 2006.

“Man, we’ve had some shots, haven’t we? Snap to David Greene, there he goes again in the corner and we jump up….Touchdown! Oh, God, a touchdown! “Buck back. Third down on the 8. In trouble. Got a block behind him. Going to throw on the run. Complete to the 25, to the 30. Lindsay Scott 35, 40. Lindsay Scott 45, 50, 45, 40. Run Lindsay! There’s something terribly wrong the “must win big all the time” attitude in our country: it’s just not possible. Games are part of life, which has its own ups and downs. The great aspect of the game should be enjoying the time spent with friends, family and just being at the games, especially during these difficult financial times.

As we all know, there are many people who can’t afford to go to the games and many who no longer have TVs or computers to watch them on.

SEVEN REASONS WHY GEORGIA SHOULD BE CONSIDERING A COACHING CHANGE.
1-GEORGIA is a combined 0-5 against Top 25 teams in 2010 and 2011
2- GEORGIA has lost 10 of its last 12 against ranked teams. (2-10 record)
3- GEORGIA is now 14-14 in his last 28 games
4-GEORGIA is 6-10 in the past 16 SEC games.
5- GEORGIA is 2-5 in their last 7 games going back to last season
6- REMAINING SCHEDULE. Games they will probably lose: 1- Miss St. 2- Tenn 3-Florida 4-Auburn. Games we should win (if we don’t have an off week): 1- Costal Carolina, 2-Miss, 3- Kentucky, 4- New Mexico, 5-Tech, 6-Vandy.
LOOKS LIKE A 50/50 CHANCE OF ANOTHER LOSING SEASON.
7- It’s been 30 yrs since our last national championship…. Can Richt get us there? Are we trending in the right direction?

What a bummer. I just read this and it’s too late to change my plans. I would have gone. I’ve NEVER been able to get Dawg tickets and would love to go.

but how do you “give up” on your team? Either you are a fan or you aren’t. If i had season tickets I’d have my fat butt in my seat for every painful or glorious minute of every game no matter if they went 0-12 or 12-0. I watched every painful second of the Boise State game. If i can’t watch tomorrow’s game on ESPN3 then I will trot out to a sports bar.

Note: Any of you folks with season tickets that can’t “bear to go” to games can feel free to send me your tickets. I’ll go holler for the dawgs in your stead and be proud to do it.

A meaningless game but a tune up for an important one with Ole Miss the next week. It seems like a lot of UGA fans have already chalked up O.M. as a win and the team hasn’t even got on the plane yet. Strange things can happen in Oxford and Nutt and Richt are a matched set so far as coaching ability goes, although GA has had much greater talent over the years. At any rate, this could be an upset, at least to Uga fans, in the making. It wouldn’t be a schocker if it were.

I don’t live in Athens and am not driving up on a hope and a prayer. I have a pretty good scalper, and the prices he wanted for Dawg tickets was extremely high. Can’t justify spending that kind of cash bro. I actually thought I would be able to get Boise Sate tickets, but no go.

We are the only school except Vandy who still tolerates inept performances from the President, ahtletic department, and those showboating, dancing kids who claim to be students. I’ll be there tomorrow, but mainly to watch my daughter perform at halftime. It would be nice if they could run the table, but I’m not holding my breath.

It’s interesting that the ‘71 team is being honored at halftime. I was at the ‘71 game as a 12-year-old Auburn fan because my older sister was in school there. Two years after that I switched from the dark side to the Dawgs. Six years later I was in school in Athens. As I recall, that was an impossible ticket to find. My mother was friends with Bill Hartman Sr. and he came through for us.

This is a game that we should be able to play our starters less than one quarter and still win hands down. I hope our coaching staff get some quality time for our backups. Looking forward to seeing what the backup QBs can do. If I was local and had a choice of paying $36 for PPV and $45 to see the game live what a no brainer. Living our of state and far away not to be blacked out I an thankful of ESPN gameplan. The one thing I don’t think is fair with Gameplan is the Blackout. Will not support any program that has a loser’s mentality, and unfortunately that is the mentality of the UGA program. It starts at the top with Adams, and it goes from there to McGarity(who is nothing but a bag of hot air), and it goes from there to Richt, who has the 2nd worst record in the SEC the past 2 plus seasons, to the players, who have bought into Richt’s moral victories, to the fans, who accept this mediocrity, and continue to brag about a coach that has lost more games than any school in the conference with the exception of Vandy. UGA should keep Adams, McGarity, and Richt, and leave the SEC and try to get accepted in the ACC, where the pathetic soft ass, finesse style of football will succeed. Adams states nobody hates losing more than he does, what a crop of sh-t, this clown said at the SEC meetings of the presidents that a losing record wasn’t acceptable at UGA, but a winning season was expected. He never said anything about an SECE, or conference title. But the real blame for this disaster should be put on McGarity’s shoulders. He should have canned Richt’s sorry ass after the bowl game, and UGA would already be in the rebuilding stage this year, and hopefully they would be able to turn the corner next year. But McGarity was so afraid of losing last year’s recruiting class, and now, what does he have? Another .500 season, and next year’s recruiting class has already been lost with UGA only having 1 of the top 11 players in state committed. It is a sad day in UGA football when Bama, Auburn, and Fl. have more of the top 11 players in the state of Ga committed to their schools than does UGA. That in itself should be all that this bag of hot air Mcgarity should need to make his decision. That coupled with the first 2 games, and he should realize that Richt is a joke, and that this program is at the bottom of the conference. How could any A.D. sit there and continue to watch as his program sinks to the very bottom of the SEC. My god, it will only hurt UGA if Richt is allowed to finish the season. The perception and the reality of this program is at an all-time low, and the fan base has never been this divided. Yet Adams and McGarity continue to support this loser coach. The perception of the program is even lower than when Goff was the head coach, and by the end of the season, the perception will be almost irreparable. If Adams and McGarity allow Richt to stay on until the end of the season, it will take the next coach 4 or 5 years to turn this program around. Thank you Richt, you have destroyed a once proud program, and your lack of coaching ability, and your arrogance has cost UGA not only the last 4 years, but an additional 4 or 5 years to rebuild. Richt has cost UGA at least 8 years of mediocrity, so for all you Richt lovers, 8 bad years outweighs his 3 or 4 good years. When will this NIGHTMARE end????/

dawg4ever? Were you spouting this crap when Richt had 10 wins, an SEC championship, David Green and Pollack? Just curious. I was. I saw then he didn’t have what it takes to get to the next level. Folks looked at me like I was crazy. Looks like I was right. But what does that have to do with going out and supporting your team?

I’m no more happy with the coach than I was 6 or 7 years ago, but I STILL like the team. Oh and I was never a big fan of bobby Cox and his ONE world series win. A GOOD manager with the teams he had should have had at least 4 if not 5…………. but I still went to the games. I cheer for the TEAM, not the coaches or management.

All that sounds good. Come support the team, blah, blah, blah.

I am in Athens getting ready for the game in 11 hours and will support the team. HOWEVER, people need to realize that supporting the team is not as easy as driving across town or catching the rapid transit to the stadium. I have driven 6 hours to get here and another 6 hours to get home.

Easy for you folks in the Athens area to tell others what they should and shouldn’t do. And tell us IF we are loyal fans…… It takes a lot of money and time for those who have to dedicate a weekend to “support” them.

AD McGarity knows what it takes to fill that stadium each week. He also knows that a great product on the field is the way to keep the cofers full and not by just raising prices and taking our “brand” nationwide. Thank God I haven’t heard anything about OUR BRAND in the last year.

Any time 3 home games are on consecutive weekends the stadium is not going to be filled for Coastal Carolina, but at 0-2 even less so.

Yes, it is a lot of money Coastal Dawg, and a lot of time invested in our football program, to just sit and watch as we are criticized all of us, for daring to want more than what we have seen after 1983.

I read a blog article by Ben Dukes, 2 days ago he wrote about what he called “the slide” where he took a list of 30 teams doing better than we are on the field (he didn’t discuss 1 word about off the field) after the 2005 season. He turned his head sideways and held his breath and came up with instead of us being # 30 in wins over the 6 seasons after 2005, that we are instead in the Top 10 in the nation.

Doesn’t feel like the Top 10 in the nation to the rest of us. No, it is DISNEYdawgs.com like that who are ruining our program. Obviously this isn’t working, not when we have lost 13 of the last 26 games against the SEC Eastern Division – dating all the way back to every game vs The East after 2005.

Man of class. There are a lot of men of class.

I thought we hired a football coach; instead it turned out to just be an assistant coach with none of the skills and none of the experience to hire and fire a coaching staff for a football team, and no desire to be any better than about # 7 in The SEC. His great season in 2002 was in fact a season in which only 1 other team ended up in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 of all 12 of The SEC teams. (To which they reply, is that Mark Richt’s fault?) He lost in 2002 to a team who did not end up in the Top 25, Florida when his # 52 avg Total Offense all 11 years, went 0-11 on 3rd Down Conversions. His great season when the BCS cheated him out of the NC game in 2007, he lost to lowly South Carolina a 6-6 teams not even in any bowl game and he lost in a blow-out to a vols team who lost to a 7-6 California and the same vols team lost to a 7-6 Alabama, but they beat us in a blow-out of Biblical Proportions, while LSU beat 2 teams who ended the season in the AP Poll Top 10. I am sorry but we did not get hosed by the BCS in 2007. DISNEYdawgs.com

We will be just fine after we beat these cupcakes like Coastal Carolina.
