Bulldogs generous to a fault

Isaiah Crowell showed he's the real deal. Now if he can just stay in the game! (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Isaiah Crowell showed he's the real deal. Now if he can just stay in the game! (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

The bad news is that Georgia lost another “big” game Saturday, and in fact has only won one really big game in the past three seasons.

The good news: There are no more really “big” games left on their 2011 schedule.

A Bulldogs team that managed to hang 42 points on a South Carolina defense that’s considered the class of the SEC East ought to be favored in the remainder of that schedule.

Of course, a team as generous as Mark Richt’s Dogs were Saturday, giving away 21 points thanks to turnovers plus another 7 resulting from falling asleep on a fake punt, can always find a way to lose, so the 10-2 record that would salvage the season and save Richt’s job is far from certain.

Walking out of Sanford Stadium tonight, the initial impressions I took with me were a mixed bag: Georgia’s defense improved considerably from a week ago and essentially played well enough to win. … Let’s hope the turnover problems that plagued the Dogs a couple of seasons ago aren’t back, because as we saw against the Gamecocks, there’s no surer way to negate a good defensive performance. … Mike Bobo might be a slow learner, but he did apparently finally conclude that a short passing game is a better bet when your offensive line is inconsistent in protecting your quarterback. At times in the second half Saturday, it looked like Georgia had lifted a copy of Kellen Moore’s playbook. And it worked. … Isaiah Crowell is the real deal. And Bobo finally figured out that he needs to get the kid the ball with space to run. Sure, Crowell gave up a hurtful fumble, but he at least has the excuse of being a true freshman. What do we make of Aaron Murray still refusing to tuck the ball and safely take a sack? … In the first half, it seemed every time Crowell had two successive runs, he was replaced by Richard Samuel. Here’s hoping that wasn’t a conditioning thing. Finally, in the second half, Crowell got more of the reps he so badly needs to develop into the first-rate back he seems destined to become. … Two missed field goals in two games for Blair Walsh, and this week it wasn’t a long one like against Boise. Let’s hope this isn’t a trend. … If Richt really went for that onside kick late in the game rather than give his defense a chance for a stop with 2:15 left and three time outs still in his pocket because, as he said after the game, Christian Robinson was hurt and he didn’t think anyone else could get the D lined up right, the state of affairs at linebacker officially has reached red alert status.

So, yes, Georgia outplayed South Carolina, as Steve Spurrier said after the game. But at 0-2 that’s really sort of a tin-plated substitute for a silver lining.

“Fools rush in” I believe in Coach Mark Richt, the AJC blogs are filled with Dawg haters who want the program to fail. The game prep for USC was right on target. A lucky bounce here and there made the difference, not the coaching.

Here’s hoping CMR and Bozo never leave. They are fine stewards of what has been and always will be a mediocre program.

You dawgs should join our mediocre conference. You play at our level and would certainly get to go to nice low tier bowls every year.

This game, like Florida game, cam e down to the 3-4 turnovers from Aaron Murray. Murray is now 0-8 vs. winning teams, and has committed 7 turnovers against SC & Florida.

The coaching staff in Athens is one of the highest paid in the NCAA. And all UGA has to show for it is a 6-9 record in the last 15 games. Even with that, it looks like the Richt apologists are crawling out from under their rocks again. At least that means full employment at the Kool-Aid factory.

How much longer do we have to put up with Richt’s ineptness?

Let’s look @ some trends here folks (and ‘no’, 1 game does not make a trends nor do moral victores count for anything):
- Overall record since 2006 – 9-4, 11-2, 10-3, 8-5, 6-7, & now 0-2 (total = 44-23 or 66%)
- SEC Record – 4-4, 7-1, 6-2, 4-4, 3-5, & now 0-1 (total = 24-18 or 57%)
- SEC ast Record – 1-4, 3-2, 4-1, 2-3, 3-2, & now 0-1 (total = 13-13 or 50%)
During this period, the only teams we beat that were really better than UGA were Auburn in ‘06, Florida in ‘07, & Tech in ‘09 – that’s it!! Conversely, we lost to KY & Vandy in ‘06, Tenn & So. Car in ‘07 (which likely kept us out of a national title game), Tech again in ‘08, Ten, KY, & Ok State in ‘09, & Miss St, Colorado, Central FL, & maybe even So. Car & Ark in ‘10.

So the question we need to ask ourselves is’can we consistenly get back to Atlanta (and maybe a national title game) by winning 57% of our SEC games & 50% of our East games? I think we all know that answer to that one. And I think we all know that’s CMR’s time is past. No it’s time to give some else (Dan Mullin, Chris Peterson, etc) a shot a bringing this program back. Enough is enough!!

Bobo has to go, I am sad Richt is going to ruin his career on this fool. It took him how long to figure out the short pass game works? I knew we were in trouble when we settled for field goals in the first half. Whoever thinks we are going to win out the rest of the season you are nuts, Auburn finds a way to win, and Fla. does too. So we will see what happenes, if Bobo can stop doing the SAME PLAYS OVER AND OVER AGAIN we might actually win. RICHT, FIRE BOBO PLEASE!!!!!

This is the quote at the beginning of this blog that has me absolutely dumbfounded at the perpetual delusion of THuga fans: “The good news: There are no more really “big” games left on their 2011 schedule.

A Bulldogs team that managed to hang 42 points on a South Carolina defense that’s considered the class of the SEC East ought to be favored in the remainder of that schedule.”

So…..after losing in a bowl game to a directional schoo….after getting it handed to you by a WAC team….after losing AT HOME to a south carolina team who couldn’t score a touchdown on offense….your blogger for the AJC is gonna come out with that statement?????

There are no more big games on THuga’s schedule because you’ll be favored and will win the rest of them????

So you suddenly feel that after yet another SEC loss that you’ve got it made with wins over UF who you’ve beaten once in what….the past 10 years???????? You suddenly feel after opening 0-2 that UT at their house be no problem. Oh by the way UT’s QB looks to be 10 times the QB your preseason overrated boy is. And suddenly THuga is going to have no problem with the reigning national champions who’ve gone 17 games without a loss and by season’s end will be a juggernaut??

How absolutely homerish and delusional!!!!! It also reeks of huberis like nobody’s business!!!

Aaron Murray is great. Everyone fumbles from time to time when they are being crushed from two directions. He’s not the reason we are 15-15. I truly see 9-3 and a bowl win in FL this year. Next year, with All SEC QB & RB, we take it to the next level.

There is an old saying screw up, move up. Maybe it’s time for the AD at UGA to promote Richt to an inside position on his staff and hire another coach. My feelings on Richt’s downfall point to te fact that when he built his staff he hired guys with great protential but no proven winners. All this plus he himself was learning to he a head coach compounded the problem and it got too much. Evans could not see this but McCarthy did and realigned some of Richt’s responsibilities. While I am not defending Bobo, how do we know who is really calling the plays. Didn’t Richt say he was getting more involved in the playcalling a year and half ago. I believe if Bobo was to be fired he would be picked up quickly and would strive whereever he goes. For all who are yelling to fire Richt right now, who would you have take over, Garner, Bobo, or Grantham. All sounds crazy don’t it. Georgia did play the #5 and #12 teams in the nation and should have beat South Carolina. So is Georgia that bad or is South Carolina that good.

You don’t need to cower to me but………

Your defense certinly cowered with Ingram rumblin’s bumblin’stumblin’ down the sideline. Brandon “please don’t hurt me” Boykin plays a good brand of touch football.

Your QB certainly cowered when Mr. Clowney paid his respects.

Your entire dog nation cowered as Mr. Lattimore played like a man in the fourth quarter.

And thank God almighty there ain’t no and ain’t ne3ver been no cheatin’ at uga and in the SEC! SEC! SEC!

There were a lot of promising things to come out of that loss…..1st We have our uniforms back!
Our Freshmen and redshirt frosh look very good….if we can add depth for them in future classes, Wow!…defense looked much better….amount of TD’s due to turnovers and fake punt is a fluke.
Michael Bennett, white knight of receivers!….Florida always seemed to have that one annoying, talented, white receiver (from Chris Collinsworth to today). Maybe UGA has found ours to annoy Florida and others the next 4 years. And yes, Kris Durham was commendable, but not a constant gnat that Bennett might become.

“A Bulldogs team that managed to hang 42 points on a South Carolina defense that’s considered the class of the SEC East ought to be favored in the remainder of that schedule.”

Based on what? Their record? Their “potential”? That is just an outright dumb statement. They’re favored this week. At 0-2, you need to be happy with that.
They will not be favored over UT, UF or Auburn. MSU will probably be a pick ‘em.

Everyone talke up Murray. He hasn’t beat a decent team yet, either this year or last. I think he’s a choke artist. We need to give Hutson Mason and Christian Robinson a chance to prove that they can win against decent teams. Preacha Man just loves to play his favorites.

Preacha Man and Bobo and now Grantham have changed nothing since the beatdown in Atlanta execpt to again show that they are masterful at snagging defeat from the jaws of victory.

Put a big L on their foreheads.

We’ve got some great players. Without a coach, however, they will never develop.

We need a new coaching staff now. Please somebody make this happen asap.

Dawgs won’t win more than 4 this year, so this will be a death spiral of over five years when Preacha Man is finally fired. They should fire Michael Adams also for waiting so long.

Don't fret, foes on schedule

We have two games to lose yet. Just let time pass and after the season you can determine if 8-4 is a good year. Two of the following teams will beat Georgia: Florida, Auburn, Tennessee or Georgia Tech. If Richt wins three of them, he better not lose to Tech. Right now I would pick GT to beat all of the other three. They are getting better and stronger every week, and can also now pass the ball.

if i were CMR, i would forbid Garner to recruit any kid living south of Macon. Limit recruiting to north of Macon and nationally. Too many Georgia born players; the roster is in-bred so to speak. Diversify with kids from outside the state and you’ll see results quickly. What you are doing now sure isn’t working.

saw this post somewhere else…think he may be right. Bama has on it’s ESPN 2011 total roster over 50 out of state players, LSU has over 40, UGA has 24 i think…before you start the “we produce so many players blah..blah…”remember Stafford and Morino were from somewhere other than Georgia..go national or stay where you are, a program in decline…

GT is a gimmie. Vandy, Kentucky, and Ole Miss will fall. Tennessee & Florida are question marks with Florida always having the edge. Mississippi state just lost to a terrible Auburn.
