Will true freshman Malcolm Mitchell make an impact at wide receiver? (Chip Towers / AJC)
ESPN.com’s Edward Aschoff took a look at true freshmen who could have an impact on their teams this fall, and for the Georgia Bulldogs he singled out running back Isaiah Crowell (no kidding!) and wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell.
Crowell, he says, “arrives in Athens with a ton of hype. Georgia has yet to find its feature back and Crowell has all the talent to be that player. Some think he could start by the midpoint of the season.”
Mitchell, he notes, “played both sides of the ball in high school, but Georgia’s staff really likes what he could do at receiver. He’s a tremendous athlete and will get a chance to earn playing time for the fall, especially with some unproven receivers already on Georgia’s roster.”
Crowell and Mitchell are probably the safest bets among the true freshmen to have a big impact, but who else from their class do you see getting a chance at considerable playing time?
Could Damian Swann or Nick Marshall enter the picture at the unsettled safety spot? Marshall, of course, already has been mentioned as also getting possible spot duty on offense. What about the Rev. Ray Drew at outside linebacker? Can Georgia keep him off the field? And considering how thin the Dogs are on the OL, might Zach DeBell or Watts Dantzler have a shot at making an impact?
(Sorry, originally had the injured Xzavier Ward listed there when I meant DeBell.)
Feel free to share your thoughts on Georgia’s true freshmen.
GETTING READY FOR GAME DAY
If you’re not sure yet where you’re going to park this season, you need to know that UGA’s Parking Services department will offer season parking spots in its Athens decks starting July 11 on a first come, first served basis. Up for grabs will be parking permits in four locations on campus: the North Campus, Carlton Street, Performing Arts Center and South Campus parking decks. South deck permits are limited to four per customer. The Hull Street deck is not available this year. The price is $120 for all six home games, plus a shipping and handling charge. Permits will be sold online at gameday.uga.edu (click in the parking tab).
JACK DAVIS PRINTS

Prints by UGA alum Jack Davis are going to be auctioned in Statham. (University of Georgia)
An auction of Georgia Bulldogs prints by famed illustrator Jack Davis is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Breffle Auction Co. at 1906 Railroad Street in Statham, just outside Athens. The Athens Banner-Herald reports the prints are part of the estate auction of a former publisher who worked with Davis, a UGA alum known for his great Mad Magazine covers. John Breffle estimates 1,000 prints will be available, with 15 to 20 different selections of Davis’ work, and some are autographed by Davis. Stacks of the prints (about 10 to 15 per stack) will be auctioned and Breffle expects them to go for between $200 and $300. Nothing dresses up a Bulldog room like an original Jack Davis!

Coach Richt is the problem! UGA is the #1 underachieving football program in the SEC. has been for the last 20 years. Thanks for nothing Richt. 2-8 vs, our biggest rival is a joke. no other way to put it. Bring on the Richt apologist…… you guys are the reason we have not fired this clown and we are doomed to suffer through yet another season of mediocrity because of it.

I can’t stand the “we’re 2-8 against our biggest rival” comments. Other than the W column, it’s not like Florida really has dominated the Richt era. Yes, there were 1 or 2 games where they solidly beat the dawgs, but for the most part, each and every game is close. I believe that the bye week Florida has before each of the WLOCP’s is what has given them the edge over the last 20 years. Look it up. There have only been a couple of seasons where the bye week has come at a different time. If you don’t think an extra week to practice/recover is worth at least a TD, you’ll fooling yourself.

No, I never said I was happy with “close”. The point that I was trying to make is that I believe it’s hard to overcome a team that’s as good as Florida, when you give them 2 weeks to prepare each year and and play in their backyard. “close” is only good in horse shoes and hand grenades. Richts record agains UF seems about right to me, considering the circumstances.

We need to step up huge in two areas, regardless of who makes the impact. Obviously we are thin up front offensively so, freshman or not, someone needs to be inspired to and able to make a position their own and dominate from it.
The other area is the defense as a whole and I believe we’ll see a tremendous improvement there. Make no mistake about it, we will show some offensive inconsistency early on. The defense needs to take it upon themselves to take control of early situations and operate with the mindset that their ability to control the game is a hallmark of this team.

Douglas dawg, there were probably a bunch of naysayers like you for FSU and Penn State back in the 70’s and 80’s that wanted to bail on Paterno and Bowden when they struggled. It took those guys 16 and 17 years to win a NC. True UGA fans know what has happened the last two years. In 2009 Stafford left and we were stuck with a career backup who proved why he was one and a defense that was not coached very well. Last year we were starting a RFR with no game experience and was starting over on defense with a new coach and new system. Now the QB has experience and is projected to be the best in the SEC. The defense has a year in the system with better athletes and should be a lot better. After you have a lot of success sometimes you have a couple of down years. We will see the old Richt teams of 2001-2007 back this year. You naysayers can get on board or find another team if your not fans of other teams already.

Don’t Get It is blunt, but you have to admit he makes some great points. Richt’s record against Florida is absolutely pathetic, and any Georgia fan who believes otherwise should stand up and take off the kneepads. 2-8 is unacceptable and do not even try to make excuses. For my money, Georgia needs to go 9-3 this year (8-4 maybe, but only if that includes a win against Florida) for Richt to keep his job. And JBD, there are plenty of good young coaches out there who would bring a huge upgrade in energy and passion from what we have seen from Richt in the last 4 years.

I dont like excuses either. You get the kids ready to play, show up on gameday and HOPE for the best ? No… you expect the best or you dont play !! Look at the other coaches that have been in the SEC for less time that have won national titles, and you think they have had more talent ? Not at all.. we had a Stafford, Moreno, Greene, so why havent we won a NC ? Answer that question correctly !!

Kerryb, Tebow didn’t play but 6-8 plays per game in ‘06, when guess who won the BCS National Championship?
Myer’s UF.
With Tebow as backup QB.
Hell, Myer was a Gator, but you’ve got to give him his due. He won the big game twice, and beat our guy 5 out of 6 times – at least half of those with less talent than we had.

Richt won an SEC title in 2005. There were no Donnan players around then. They were all Richt recruited players. So the Donnan argument is pretty stupid. Meyer won a NC in 2006 with Zook’s players. There’s no doubt about that. He then won with a once in a lifetime player. The perfect spread QB that couldn’t throw but could throw his 240 lb side of beef into the line on runs and couldn’t be brought down. After all that we saw what a great coach he was without them.

dawgscrews tghe reason richt didnt go for it there was to teach his offense a lesson that if they wanted a td there there should have gotten on third down. his players pretty much going throug the motions that game. now if he could see into the future he would have gone for it because his guys didnt really play well enough on offense to get any closer but again he has plenty of guts as he has shown before plenty of times. but he also wants his players playing hard every play so when they took third down off he punished them by kicking the field goal thinking he would be back down on the ucf goalline again real soon.

Cool-aid drinkers Richt’s record the past 3 years does speak for itself. A .500 record in the SEC east over that time frame is unacceptable at UGA. Hell Goff won 50% of his games in SEC, yet UGA fans still believe in this guy. What has this clown done the past 3 years that makes you think he is a good coach. Just answer that, and then we can talk. If you can’t answer that question, then you are part of the NIGHTMARE that is taking place in Athens.

Douglas dawg – If it is national championship or bust then how many active coaches are qualified to take the Georgia job? Of those coaches, how many of them are leaving their jobs to come to Georgia? So, now we are down to unproven head coaches versus Richt. Richt who has had us close to the title a few times. Richt who represents us very well. UF has the most to crow about over Richt. How many schools in the nation can’t UF crow over? I’m happy with our coach. You are not. I’m pretty sure that outside of the blogosphere our opinions don’t amount to a whole lot.

Where did this moron “dont get it” come from, probably one of the other trolls using a different blog name. Might as well just use “coward” as a handle.
I would go out on a limb and proclaim that every single person who supports UGA Football, in any capacity wants improvement in the team it fields, beginning THIS year. That being said, when Coach Richt has had the hosses to compete, he has. Not only has he competed with the SEC schools, he has a 7-3 bowl record against winning teams of other conferences. He also holds a winning, record against the majority of the SEC teams. I know, I know not against UF, but against every other team except LSU, which is 3-3. He has beaten Auburn like a drum, and South Carolina, and Arkansas, and has been the coach to actually come in and make the Dawgs respectable against Tennesee, who had embarrassed UGA for many years before. Tennesee is a very respected program, and yes they are down a bit now, but they will be back under Dooley given a few more players.
The Dawgs will have more receiving options than most think once fall practice settles out, you will all be pleasantly surprised when the Boise game gets going. Richt ain’t gonna sit back and let his passing offense go to crap just because A.J. Green is gone. Richt was almost apologetic when he announced Mike Bobo was going to be the new OC. If you will remember, he said that Bobo had called the majority of the plays against Virginia Tech in the bowl game that previous year, and that he was easing him into the job. Many will point to the working relationship between Bobo and Searels as being less than acceptable. I am of the opinion that Bobo is just not SEC caliber OC material, and I think that Richt will have no choice but to become highly involved again this season. There is probably some merit to the fact that Bobo is related to Barbara “Dooley’s other Dawgs” Dooley being a factor in his not being downright fired, but with Richt being back on the job this year, and a new OL coach in Friend, improvement here is going to be expected and demanded by McGarity, count on it.
Nobody on the planet knows what Crowell will actually bring to the table until he’s on the field, but think about this fact. He will be the fastest back that Richt will have ever had. Musa was not all that fast, and neither was Moreno, these have been his two highest acheiving Tailbacks. Not since Robert Edwards was playing for Donnan has UGA had a back with the ability to “take it to the house”. His film shows that with a little crease, he can get out nthere in a hurry, so I am optimistic here.
On defense, the secondary will improve just by experience alone, and by benefitting from a much improved front seven. Look folks, Georgia was in every game last season, and that is more than I can say for the 2008 campaign where the embarrassing Blackout against Bama, and the blowout loss to UF still stand out to me.
All of this adds up to an SEC East title, a trip back to the Dome, and I’ve got news for you, Alabama and LSU are not all that, and my prediction for the West is Arkansas anyway, so there are really no clearcut favorites on either side IMO.

You apparently were not a fan back in the Goff era when things really were bad. 2 SEC Championships, and 6 top 10 finishes is not that bad of a resume for a coach who has coached 11 years. Things may not be that great right now, but I have faith that coach Richt will right the ship.

there are 4 downs in football because its harder to go 10 yards for a first down in 3.
again he was trying to tell his kids that ucf had know buisness there stopping them on 3rd down and that his big time players should have played with more effort on the first 3 downs so he punished them by kicking the field goal in hopes of getting the offenses line attention of playing hard on all downs not just the 4th. i toally agree with what he was doing there at that time. like i said uga 4-5 stars guys just ran through the motions the whole game. defense played well but the offense had some issues with effort. im not saying every player on offense but just some. no way uga loses to ucf for another 20 or so years.

Bill, is Xzavier Ward healthy? If so, he could maybe help. Keep in mind, you brought in the 9th rated offensive line class in the CONFERENCE (per Rivals), and they know what they’re talking about. Other than Ward, if healthy, not one of your offensive line signees is SEC caliber. The experts recognize this, Yet you and UGA fans refuse to. It doesn’t help that Richt keeps talking “Dream Team,” Maybe at some other positions, but certainly not the offensive line. And the thing is, your competition now uses Dabell and Dantzler (the Double D’s!) as Uga’s future at offensive tackle. Why would Vidal Alexanderr or the kid out of Florida ,(Avery Young), want to sit 4 years behind those two. And they will. Even if they’re better( And they are), For the same old tired UGA reasons. The idea of bringing Dabell and Dantzler in and letting Coach “T” build ‘em up is so like Georgia. Neither are athletic or physical or tough enough to compete at this level, and Georgia realizes it. But that’s not what it’s about. Never has been. and this is why you’re average and, until your philiosophy changes up there, are destined to remain so.

Columbus, love your optimism, but until Richt proves he can win a big game again, nothing else matters. Just being comptetitve doesn’t get it, and his teams have been embarrased alot the past 3 seasons. Defend Richt all you want, but i’m tired of going to games in athens and on the road and getting our asses handed to us. If you need a reminder, try Bama at home, try Tenn on the road Kiffen’s first year, try Florida, Tebow’s last 2 years at Florida, Kentucky at Kentucky when Stafford was a freshman, and Kentucky at home last year. The losses the past 3 years have been unbearable, and there is nothing that has changed that will make this program respectable again. The only change that will make UGA significant again is to fire RIcht. Sorry, but he created this nightmare with his recruiting of players and assistants. The lack of depth on this team is a joke for a coach at a program for 10 years. Nothing anyone can say that will change that.

THANK YOU ATL XMAN, I am glad to hear somebody else say that. Personally I wanted to go for the first down at the time, but admittedly that’s the default “aw come on” response from a fan. In hindsight, sure, he goes for it, he said as much.
But as much as folks categorize that as “sending” a bad message to the players, they Ignore the actually message he “said” to the players.
“Don’t get stuffed right there on 3rd and short then run over here wanting ME to go for it. If you wanted a first down, then do it when your supposed to”
It perfectly fine to call that a mistake, but there was a reason for it. (not the least of which had been the much publicized fact all week, that when Georgia scored first they 6-0, and when they didn’t it was 0-6). He has proven time and time again that he would go for a 4th down. he didn’t in this case for a purpose. Didn’t work, but Folks act like Richt really messed up the psyche of some well oil-machine there.

These decisions regarding what prospects Georgia chose to sign this year on their offensive line smells like the influence of McGarity, who, unfortunately ,is another 1970s Georgia grad. There really ought to be a law. I’m sure he’s also behind the Joe T./ John Kasay strength and conditioning experiment. You think the competition is going to use Dabell/Dantzler against you, wait till they have prospects, (and their parents) compare the credentials of their Strength and Conditioning directors vs. those of Joe T.and Kasay (yet two more former Uga players). I have an acquaintance who graduated from Uga,, and times being what they are, I’m going to suggest he apply for a position on the staff. What do you think? Having gone to school there, like Bobo ,Kasay, Joe “T”, and McGarity, is apparently all it takes.

I didn’t contribute this year, and i’m not gonna go to any games until this regime is gone. How about you? All you can do is talk about the last 10 years, so what? Guess what teams have won the National title the past 3 years? Try Florida, Bama, and Auburn, all which fired mediocre coaches, and all whose programs have passed UGA and your wonderful coach. Did you ever hear of Tuberbille, and Fulmer? Both were very successful coaches at one time, but both had a couple of mediocre seasons, and both fan bases got tired of their mediocrity, and both were fired after one losing season. Why does UGA still cling to RIcht? Because of fans like you. Good luck watching this pitiful coaching staff, starting with BoBo, to Grantham, to McClendon, to Ball, to Friend, get outcoached every SEC game except maybe Vandy. Go watch the 2005 SECC game and get excited, because that’s all you will have to cling onto as long as this regime is there

Gotta solve this one problem this year to win some close games. I’m 58 and 30 pounds over weight and I think I could gain 100 yards up the middle on the Dawgs last year. We gotta plug that up. There were times a back hit the middle and there wasn’t a Dawg within 6-8 yards of him. We couldn’t get anyone off the field, especially backs busting it for 8 -10 yards a pop.

Altamaha, you just can’t defend this guy anymore.Even you are running out of things to say to convince yourself this guy is a good coach. The difference between me and you are very simple, I’m a UGA fan, and i support the program, I’m not a Richt fan, hopefully even you can understand that. But i seriously doubt it. I will support the program, but i will not support the guy that has single handedly, under his watch, brought our program to this mediocre level. He has no answers now, and he has had no answers the past 3 years. Yet, you think he will change his personality, and his coaching style, and somehow win big again. Sorry, but there is an old saying, “Can’t change the strips on a Zebra” and unfortunately Richt is too dumb or too stubborn to change. Just like it took him 2 years too long to dump his buddy Martinez, he has waited 4 or 5 years too long to dump his other buddy BoBo. You keep dreaming, and i will keep facing reality. That reality is simple, Richt was lucky to have VanGorder to bail him out from 2002-2004, now he has nobody to bail him and Bobo out. If you don’t realize this, then i question if you are really watching the UGA games

I thought how the LSU fans had turned on Miles…for winning 10-11 games for pete’s sake. I really think Meyer got out before he was asked to leave. How do you top 2 national titles in 5 years. He wanted out on top. Bama decided they wanted to win….They went out a got Saban…a hired gun…..didn’t rub their hands over the price…..I won’t comment on Auburn. We’ll see what kind of coach the Russian is this year. We watched last year as Maryland and Miami fired coach’s that caught some off guard. The Football job in Athens revolves around Adams. I’ve said on here before that Adams cares about being competitive, not championships. I know some of don’t want to hear that, but if it wasn’t true, Richt would have fired last year.

If you have that attitude towards management on your job and you worked for me, I would have fired you in a New York minute. How many losses is fair to critisize? One. I have. Knock yourself out. If this blog contained just fair critisism of the coach’s team losing to somebody, wouldn’t that be great. And imagine if there was actually a discussion of what went wrong, and what needed to happen, and what needs to happen to corect that. That would be great wouldn’t it?

Simply stating that i will not support a coach that has brought this program to it’s knees, and simply asking all of your Richt lovers to give me one reason to believe this clown will turn this mediocre program around. But all you and Altamaha can do is call people names. The fact is you can’t give me or anyone a reason, because there is none. This clown has been outrecruited, outcoached, and outsmarted so much the last 3 years that it has become a joke to the rest of the SEC and the nation. For a coach to have no depth on the O.L., W.R, R.B, Q.B, L.B, C.B, and Safety after he has been at the same school 10 years is a total joke. I guess this clown and his coaches never look at practice and realize that they have only a handful of players at every postion that can compete in the SEC. But hey Richt knows what he is doing!!! My ass, if he can’t see at practice that he has no Safeties, one corner, 2 linebackers, one D.L, and maybe one O.L. that could start for our biggest rivals in the SEC, then he is a bigger fool than even i thought. Either come with facts, or go stick your head back in the sand.

A program like UGA should NEVER be in a position to depend on true freshman to make an impact. That being said, I believe Watts Dantzler will make the most impact only because of depth issues on the OL. For all those who think Crowell is going to be the next Lattimore, be careful! Richt never plays freshman very much at the RB position because they usually can’t learn the protection packages. Not to mention the kid needs to show he can stay healthy, something he didn’t do in high school.

@JB,
I get it, but ranting and raving and personal insults without having all of the facts as to what has caused the team to slide is fruitless. None of us on this blog knows everything that has taken place behind the scenes. It’s been 1 losing season out of 10 years. The AD has already said that he’s going to give him the chance to turn things around. If he doesn’t, then he’s gone. Everyone is aware of that, including Richt himself. I think that some of the bloggers are hoping that he fails so that he can be fired. A new head coach is not going to turn things around overnight.

Let’s be honest he is one of the winningest coaches in the entire country. Period. You can’t argue with that. I wonder how many great coaches had a couple of subpar seasons. Oh yeah–all of them. If you’re a Bulldawg start supporting your coach because you’ve got no other options. Unless you’re on the UGA Athletic board there’s nothing you can do about it. Do they donate to the athelitic fund? Do they buy season tickets (I have for 26 years)? Do they attend games on tickets they buy, or someone like me gives them? Do they go to away games, Florida, Colorado, Arizona ect?

A program like UGA won 10 games 4 times in 18 years from 84-2001.One thing nobody likes to admit here is that UGA is not Bama,Aub,Lsu etc…there are some things that will be overlooked at those schools that will never be tolerated at UGA.You can try and delude yourself otherwise but that is a fact. Now with the new AD being a FLA guy it will be interesting to see if the kids in Athens will get as much leeway on some personal conduct issues as the ones in Gainsvile had.I doubt it but we’ll see.
I remember back in 07-08 there was all this chatter about CMR recruiting to many “Thugs”…a lot of folks claimed they didn’t want UGA becoming the next Miami or FSU.Tons of “I’d rather win the right way” type of comments.Guess what? Those “thugs” are winning championships at FLA,BAMA,LSU and AUB.Now all of a sudden you are jealous…but at the same time you know damn well Richt wont be able to get away with a lot of “questionable” tactics in Athens. Why?Because Adams don’t give a damn about your angst at our rivals success.UGA is going to do it the “right” way period.

I think Corey Moore will make the biggest impact at the safety position. I think he will be very physical and put some licks on the opposing team. I do hope Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Conley, and Sanford Seay step up become big time WRs. I. Crowell will be a welcome site if he learns how to block on pass plays. We need him on the field at all times when the offense is out there to give us another weapon but, I do see Nick Marshall as being a Hines Ward type of player or better.

Chances are if you fire Richt, the program is going to suck for a season or two. Yes Chizick did it in one season, but there is no guarantee that a new coach would have the good fortune or pay someone’s daddy a fortune to get a player like Cam Newton (and Fairley on D to boot). Saban’s first season was 6-6, including a loss to the Dawgs and losing 4 out of his last five. Of course, then came Mark Ingram.
The thing is a new HC is not a magic bullet, and given the attitudes of some, they’d be calling for the new guy’s head immediately. Heck, I remember people in my family wanting to fire Vince Dooley. (They wouldn’t admit it now.)
Perhaps, the Dawgs will do better not flying across country twice between rivals and the tough draw of the West teams. Perhaps, Richt, relieved of some administrative duties laid on him by the panty hoarder who got us into those cross country games, will be more hands on. Perhaps, getting through a rough patch of trying to give upper class men opportunities or getting the new guys experience, Richt has gotten rid of some attitude problems. Time will tell.

I’m in the Justin Scott-Wesley camp…anybody with that kind of speed, size, elusiveness and ability to break tackles should be a weapon to be used whenever and however possible. He’s been a WR and was recruited as one, but, again, with the tools he’s got, I’d want to find out how he’d do at RB. Wherever it is, I hope the kid, as well as all the others, has a great career and gets all he wants out of the experience.

Somewhere after the first 10 posters this blog went south in a hurry. Isn’t it suppose to be about who among the freshman can make an impact on the team this year?
I was thinking, Drew, Mitchell, and even though Jenkins isn’t a true freshman, he is new to our team, and he will have an impact. I am also hoping that a OL candidate can increase their learning curve and contribute some quality time. We have a solid O line but not a lot of depth. Crowell will probably get up to steam about half way through 2011, but a lot less pressure has to be put on him and a lot more on King and the others who have already been here in 2010.
I think the verdict will be out on a few of the youngsters until after fall camp is concluded and we see how well they respond to the S and C program and how well they catch on to the offensive and defensive game plans.

I think starting the season with a more seasoned Murray and the whole playbook will be of great benefit over last year. The D will make the difference in 2011.

Bark no bite: 2006 was Stafford’s true freshman year. It was the first year after the Greene/Shockley days. UGA won 9. Many felt it was a mistake not to redshirt Stafford.
2009 was the Cox year. Didn’t want to repeat the Stafford QB fight mid season thing. Went with Cox who doesn’t deserve all of the bad rap he gets. Lots of rumors as to why and how. blah blah blah. UGA won 8.
2010 was Murrays redshirt freshman year with a team in total flux and a star player missing first four games. UGA won 6. Granted this is not acceptable. No one is happy about it.
But, by the stats you provide: Every other season with the exception of those three, Richt teams have won ten games or more. He has been to the sugar bowl three times and has one of the winningest records in college football.
Yes Saban has two championships with two teams. He is the only coach to do that. He is phenomenal. There’s Meyer and Chizick with championships delivered by two of the best players in college football history. Richt hangs with anyone else. Take away Tebow and Newton, and Richt easily hangs with Meyer and Chisick, too.
You provide this as evidence as Richt being a bad coach, but this is an impressive record by just about anyone’s standards. CMR might not be winning the popularity contest right now with the media, but he will win games this Fall. That’s all that matters.

Offense has been anemic on big games against good defenses. 0 Td’s against SC & UCF, 1 Td against Miss St. Ranked 10th in SEC in scoring against teams with winning records. Ranked 10th in SEC in rushing. The line, running backs, and wide receivers are all question marks so look for Mitchell, Crowell, Ward or Dantzler to make a big impact. Need some way to score points against winning teams. 18 a game, when SC doing 32 a game, embarrasing.

We are the bad guys for telling it like it is and the apologists aka the mindless ones are good the guys because their coach is a good guy off the field, but a loser in the big game on it. DGI, you, I and many other Dawgs have languished and suffered through the mediocrity and UGa’s plight is what will happen when you bring a five yard dump pass first philosophy to a traditional power run program. I said it back in 2001 that it was a mistake to bring in an offensive staff that tries to make stars out of weak-armed qbs, (that really can’t throw deep) through short passes by phasing out the tight-end and de-emphasizing the run. This is an outdated and mediocre offensive strategy the Gators had figured out since CMR was an OC at FSU. We need to be patient my friend there will be changes one way or the other at UGa.

@dont get it,
Trust me, I do get it. I do understand your frustration. All I’m saying is that the AD isn’t going to fire him before this season is over. I think that he was evaluating his entire body of work since he’s been there over the last 10 years. He’s not just evaluating his record against our biggest rivals. I think that the AD gave him the benefit of the doubt as to that overall body of work. The last 2 years have been extremely disappointing to me as well. But I have to keep in perspective that he’s only had 1 losing season in that amount of time. This season is do or die. He knows that and I think that he will come out swinging. I know UGA fans are always saying, “wait until next year”. But you have to admit that this season has a different tone than the previous 2 at this point in time.
I’m not fighting with you man. I understand. It’s just somewhat irritating when some of the bloggers hurl personal insults. It’s ok to voice your opinion, whether the masses agree with you or not. Heck, I’ve spent my entire adult life defending those exact rights. We both want our team to succeed. I say”we”, even though I’m not a UGA grad because my wife is a UGA grad and we both contribute to the fund.
It’s not the difference in opinions that irritates me with some of the bloggers. It’s the personal attacks that are uncalled for.

So many holes on the offense. With AJ & Durham gone, and Ealey, losing your 3 top scorers is hard to recover from. And the offensive lineman looks thin as ice. Bottom line, unless some freshmen step up and play like Lattimore it’s gonna be another 6-7 season.
There’s no one Murray can hand the ball off to, or throw to, who scored more than 2 td’s last year. That’s scary.
I don’t know where the points are going to come from, maybe Tavarres scores 10 td’s and replaces AJ’s production, who’s gonna score Ealey’s 11 td’s? Caleb only scored 2 td’s last year, won’t be him. Crowell? A true freshman hasn’t run for 1000 yards under Richt and only 2 backs out of 20 have run for 1000 (Moreno & Smith) under Richt. Charles? Nope, he only scores 2 td’s a year.

We are supposed to beat Tech, just like we beat up on S.C., KY. and Vandy traditionally. It’s an insult to the SEC you put Tech in the same sentence with UF, Auburn and even a down Tennessee.Dodd wrecked Tech when they ran from the SEC and for that they lost enternal credibility by running to the weaker ACC. Dodd even admitted it was a colossal blunder to leave the SEC and tried to conspire with Bama’s Bear to get back in in the mid 70s. So what it’s all history now. Anyway, while you and LOZZO are pondering other meaningless and repetitious thoughts to post, answer this meaningful question. It’s been posed to you before and you conveniently avoided it: Just how many more losses to UF must UGa endure before you think a head coaching change should be made ? Still waiting on that answer SGD88. Hey Rocket Science help him and Chazza out. Getting back on point I don’t see any of the true freshmen making any impact this season outside of JJ, who isn’t a true freshman. Sounds like desperation is in the air at UGa. I don’t see this questions posed of true freshmen at FSU, Miami, or even Texas. So it’s a bad sign to have to rush true freshmen to play right away. Anyway, a lot of hype has surrounded IC at running back. That logical Dawgfans will be exposed as a Jedi mind trick directed at us Dawgs who want to see the run. Unfortunately IC won’t have much immediate impact for two reasons:1) He has a lot to learn as he transitions to college ball from high school and 2) the pass first philosophy of the offensive staff won’t allow that many touches if he can’t learn how to pass block as to not give away the schemes and plays. Then we’ll be told he couldn’t play as much because of poor pass protection on his part. IC will be lucky to get 300-400 yards rushing with Richt/Bobo playcalling. IC will not be properly utilized and will be rendered irrelevant and ineffective as Caleb King will get the ball on the many third and long passing situations that will arise. WR Malcolm Mitchell may get some opportunities to catch balls if he can learn to breakoff his routes properly to comeback to the ball due to Adam Murrays’ weak arm. M&M will have to be able to turn those 5 yard dump passes upfield to make big plays. If he is good out of making something out of nothing or getting open catching short td passes out of goal line situations he might have a better chance than IC to be an impact player on offense. But it maybe asking too much for M&M to beat out the crowd vying for that primary WR spot this year. His talent will have to carry him to the heights of star WR, because we already know the coaching won’t. Ditto for the offensive line and the 4 or 5 incoming lineman. When you have spotty coaching sometimes the talent can cover it up and succeed. But don’t count on that at UGa, because they tend to squander talent more than not these days. QB Christian LeMay pound for pound may be the best all-around talent at the position. But he will go the way of DJ Shockley if the current offensive staff manages to save their jobs and we may see him in 2013 or 2014 if he doesn’t leave first. On defense it’s going to be all about John Jenkins at DT. Can he be for the Dawgs what T.Cody was for Bama? I certainly hope so. I’ve seen Ray Drew play in person at Thomas Co.Central and he is a very impressive and imposing specimen at LB that may need time to be developed correctly and gain more weight to flourish in the position. So there you have it. For all the Dream team hype less than three of those fellas will even get a serious look to contribute significantly right away, with the exception of Jenkins who will immediately see starting time at NT. Remember this staff places players in position to fit the scheme not the other way around. With this mentality in place Cam Newton is a tight end in this offense, as would the legendary Herschel Walker,( if he was an incoming freshman) split time or play both ways at TE and LB. (Neither one would sign at UGa & Newton rightfully avoided this regime to attend UF initially before finding gridiron glory at AU). There’s a reason why UGa will never win a National Championship with the current philosophy in place.

SGD88: Again you have ran from the direct question. How many times must UGa lose to UF before a coaching change should be made ?
Donnan went 2-3 versus Tech and as I remember two of his losses were nailbiters which UGa should have prevailed in. I recently watched the 1999 game UGa lost 51-48 in overtime. That was a loss attributed to poor ole Jasper Sanks who couldv’e put Tech away if he hadn’t fumbled on that attempt to score. I personally felt Donnan deserved another year because he knew what Dawgfans expected : a dominating ground attack. But unfortunately for him Sanks was a bust after being hyped as the next Hershel and it certainly didn’t help Donnan any that he went 1-4 versus some of Spurriers’ best UF teams. Still at .250 his winning percentage is better than CMR’s .200 versus UF. Donnan was 40-19 (.678) overall at UGa and was just about to turn the tide after going 10-2, 9-3, 8-4, and 8-4 in his last four years. Yeah he went 8-4 one year too many, but I’ll take 8-4 over 6-7 anytime. You may be right in this instance and Donnan had to at least beat Tech to hold on after losing ugly to UF on more than one ocassion. Okay SDG88 at last I see your point. You are a DGD to remind me of the significance of the Tech game as it lead to Donnan’s ouster. And it takes a DGD to admit the oversight. GO DAWGS!! TO HELL WITH TECH !!

@Dont get it….The last 20 years? The last 10(Richt) have been FAR better than the 10 before that. No SEC Championships since 1982. No SEC Championship games. Richt:2 SEC Championships another trip to the title game. In the 17 years before Richt…..ZILCH! He WILL win some more unlike some “the grass look greener”coach. Who you gonna get Saban? Miles? Stoops? Everybody else is NO better or they CHEAT! Mack Brown is too old and the others are unproven! So to you and ALL you Richt haters…YOU BETTER BE DAMN GLAD HE IS UGA’S COACH! I SURE AM. HES BETTER THAN DOOLEY! 30 YEARS WITH RICHT. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN NEXT 5! MURRAY AND CROWELL AND DREW.
WHAT I want to know is what Redshirt Freshmen and Sophomores are going to have an impact!! Crowell will play significantly…duh and the others may get some playing time but not much unless there are injuries or a weak opponent or they are something VERY special. This is not High School but the toughest conference in the nation. Maybe Drew and Mitchell get some playing time, but the rest? Not unless there is a HUGE hole….IMO

RICHT DID NOT START OUT AT A LITTLE WAC SCHOOL OR SOMETHING, HE STARTED AD A FIRST TIME HEAD COACH IN THE SEC BABY AND HAS DONE GREAT. Cant win 10 EVERY year and hey guess what? EVERY COACH has seasons where they lose more than they win, usually a few! GET OVER IT AND GROW SOME BALLS AND PERSEVERENCE. This is the time to HUNKER DOWN not run over the team or coach with the bus. Richt is STILL learning, he has a HUGE upside, he WILL get the job DONE! Damn you people are dumb! Columbus,
You are typing to blind eyes for the most part on these blogs. People find it easier to complain here, and half the time they can’t support it with true facts. They expect to be in the top 5 each year, and whine because another school does better than they do. They complain if CMR doesn’t get this or that recruit and then when he gets them, they complain, for another reason. No matter how many times you type, that UGA has a limited amount of recruits, most people on these blogs expect UGA to offer to a 1000 people. They even complain if the man takes ten days off to get away and then ues it for his own personal reasons, like they should be able to tell him how to spend his spare time. If UGA were to win the SEC East it would not be good enough, since he has to win it all every year to satisfy this lot. Considering the holes UGA has to fill and the experience level of the players, they should be satisifed with a 9 win season, but there will still be a lot of complaints.

@Real Dawgs…
You said:
“The POWER-aiders will get what they want one way or the other.”
I am sorry I didn’t realize I was dealing with a 6 year old. Are you a Power Ranger or a Decepticon? Put down your Hershell Walker doll, and take a break from whatever fantasy you are having about being in charge of a football program and listen up. Mark Richt is not my coach. None of us play on the team here. We pull for a bunch of college students to do well and make well on their dreams. We pull for our favorite team and enjoy the bragging rights when they are successful. Mark Richt is not my friend. I have never met the man. I don’t know the inner workings of the athletics department or recruiting. I simply don’t have any basis (except things that anonymous people who know wives of former coaches or has a son who played on a team that lost to the team of a recruit) to make a judgement about some of the things you crack smokers dream up. I don’t know McGarrity or President Adams. I am not privy to their decisions or ideas. I don’t donate huge sums of money to the school. I have no relationship or pull to influence the head coach in any way. If you do, Power Ranger, then do your damndest.
I sincerely hope that the rumors about Crowell not showing up for workouts aren’t true. Apparently, he had a bit of a temper tantrum at the end of his high school season. On the other hand, I hear rumors that he was working until he puked in those workouts. Who the heck knows? Certain folks are condemning the kid before he is even attended a Fall camp much less run the ball in a game.
What I know about crowell: Everyone including Bama wanted him to come play. His high school stats are impressive. He looks elusive, strong and fast in the videos. I suspect that he will not be able to run over guys like he did in high school. Honestly, I think King is going to step up. I am interested to see what Malcome does.
I think Ray Drew is going to be special. Depending on what goes down with Jarvis, he could see playing time.
Any of the guys at receiver could have an impact. I don’t think receiver is a big weakness even with AJ taking off. There are some guys that can make plays there, but there is room for a standout freshman to impact the position. There are lots of speedsters on the team.

I think Christian Lemay will make the most impact. He’s the best leader on the team, and shows great composure under pressure, and has no problem beating teams that have formerly been tough to beat (like Florida). Lemay beat a team as a Sr. QB who hadn’t lost at home in years. He’s the only leader on the team, besides Drew.

Joe, I was kind of scratching my head about that one, also. There seem to be a bunch of capable LBs and not so many at Safety. Maybe the Ogletree just stands to be a superior LB. Maybe Rambo and hitman have got the game plan down, and the coaches have a lot of faith in Shawn Williams at the other Safety spot. Maybe Deas shows promise. Or maybe there is a new guy coming in that stands to impress.
My guess is that the D is focusing on pressuring the QB and stopping the run (or at least being more affective at stopping the run particularly against SC and Bama). Getting the big man in the middle and loading up on linebackers would certainly seem to indicate that. But, then again you have to be able to depend on the backfield having things covered to do it. File it in the we’ll see category.

To waste someone with his character to go with Ealey and bench him as they did a few years ago is mind boggling. How old is he now? 20. He has been in Athens since he was 16. A redshirt Junior at 20 and they have not found him a starting place. Makes you wonder why they used him as much as they did as a Freshman. That is the biggest waste of talent I have witnessed at UGA.

Regarding Donan and Power Aid statements:
Donnan didn’t get fired because he went 8-4 two seasons in a row. He got fired because he promised a National Championship and lost to every rival on the schedule. He got fired because he hitched his wagon to a coke addict who was throwing games. He got fired because he went 2-3 against Tech and couldn’t win the SEC championship.
I agree that Jax is a big ugly elephant in the room. I will say, though, that no other UGA coach faced did any better against Spurrier, and no other UGA coached faced a UF team with Tebow. I am not defending Richt’s record or trying to make excuses. I don’t think you fire a coach over one his record against one team that happened to be the best team in the nation for a few of those years, especially when the coach has shown a great deal of success over previous coaches.
Yes Bama fires guys that don’t beat AU. Bama/AU fans are just plain stupid about that game. But let’s have a look, keeping in mind that those programs are always, ALWAYS going to have great talent. You forget about the DuBose-Franchione-Shula era (1997–2006). That was nine years of sucking after Stallings pulled off an NC. Before Stallings’ NC in 92 (the first since Bear shared one in 79), they ran off Perkins and then Curry (after Curry went undefeated). Finally that got Saban. It was a great move on their part.
Okay. I think Richt will eventually win an NC. I think he will win the SEC several more times. I would rather see him have the opportunity to try to make that happen that than to suck for ten years until UGA finds the right guy.
Don’t bring up Meyer and Chizick. They are exceptions to the rule. Plus, Meyer had Tebow, and Chizick had Newton. Anybody can win those guys.

Bama Mike: You make a good point. I too think it is going to be the D that impresses this year, but I don’t think the offense is a bust. While the o-line might not be deep, they are capable. A lot will depend on what happens in the weight room this summer. You are also right that it is going to be an interesting season.
DR B: I just don’t know about LeMay being the impact guy. Judging by the little bit I saw of him in Spring he has great physical attributes. Also some folks on the thread attest to his leadership abilities. I think that you (and others) underestimate Murray. An entire season in the trenches and knowing the playbook backwards and forwards go along way in deciding the starter. I kind of hope to see LeMay redshirt. Let him have two full years of being the man (unlike Shockley only having one). You may be right, though. He could win the position outright.

We’ve seen what Murray can do, beat lousy teams like Idaho St, Louisiana Lafayette, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tech & Tenn. Big whoop. Murray also lost to every winning team he has ever played at Georgia including Auburn, SC, MSU, Florida, UCF, Ark, and even figured out a way to lose to one of the worst pass defenses in the nation, lowly Colorado.
It’s time.

If I only had 2 freshman guys to go with with the right mental game to beat Florida, I’d go with Ray Drew & Christian Lemay, both standout on a team that has no leaders. Lemay’s intangibles, and Drew’s are off the charts compared to their position competition. No way Lemay or Drew would EVER lose to Florida if they’re the 2 freshman starters.

I appreciate LeMay’s potential. I am very excited about his future. I just don’t think it would be a good idea to break in a new QB for the third straight year in a row. I still think that you underestimate Murray. Wins and Losses are team efforts. A Def. that couldn’t stop SC. Running backs that coughed up opportunities. An o-line that gave up half way through the third quarter.
As I said before, you may be right. Maybe LeMay beats out Murray and the team rallies around him. I don’t see it, but you could be right.

Instead of tanking for the third year in a row while breaking in a new QB, why not redshirt LeMay. Let him split time next season or win it outright. Then he has his Junior and Senior years as the uncontested starter unless Richt recruits another 5 star QB. Don’t get me wrong. The little bit I have seen of LeMay tells me he is an NFL quality guy. I just don’t think another QB controversy and breaking in a new QB with no college game experience is the prudent way to go this season.

I do think Richt will start Murray. Why? Well, not because of Murray’s leadership, he did go 0-6 against winning teams. Just because Richt’s loyal, and likes ot keep things the same. Remember when Joe Cox kept starting after he threw all those interceptions. Now, if Murray does lose the first couple, extending his record against winning teams to 0-8, sure, Richt makes a change, he’ll have to in order to try and save his job. That’s when either Hutson Mason or Christian Lemay get their chance, or maybe both. I do think it will be a 9 win season, but I don’t know who will end up as QB, my bet is it will not be Aaron Murray, based on how’s he’s performed against winning teams. Murray tends to choke. So, Lemay might get the call.

Real Dawgs Drink Power Aid,
We have the people in place to get the job done, without having to rely on Freshmen to make th team succssful. No coach isgoing to expect a freshn to usually chge the direction of the team, a soon as he arrives. There just aren’t that many Lattimores aropund. If this team, plays with a sense of urgency and plays as a team, I think the team can realalistically win 9-10 games. Sure the O line is thin, but if some of the young guys step up their learning curve, we ca survive that. The offense is going to have toplay smart and the plays can’t always call for the O line to hold theline of scrimmage all of the tme. Our defense should be good enough to hold a lot of teams in place and if we can be methodical and control with the offense some what, UGA can be successful.
We just have to wait and see how the games go. The games are played on the field and I chose to be positive instead of already saying that UGA is no good or will lose the majority of the games.

You act as if there were GIVEN those athletes when in fact they had the foresight to recruit them. Also when you fire a HC it doesnt mean you suck for “10″ years. Spurrier won his first of a gazillion SEC championships his SECOND year. Meyer won 2NC in five years. A good AD finds the right guy quickly. But if that AD doesnt have the pressure from the fans or the alumn, then it never gets done. After reading all of the excuses and just shear denile from so called UGA fans, I have to wonder if you people have the WILL to win. I promise you it begins with getting rid of Richt.

Dawg tired, i agree with you 100%. But the sad thing is that if Richt goes 8-4 Adams will make McGarity keep him and give him a contract extention. That is the sad state that UGA’s program has become and it all starts with Adams. He isn’t concerned about winning championships, and if you heard his comments at the SEC meetings, he said he expects UGA to have a winning season every year, not, he expects UGA to compete for championships every year. THere in lies the problem with UGA, and sadly it’s fan base feels the same way Adams feels. Just have a winning season and play Floriday close, and beat Ga.Tech, and the season has been a success. Pitiful, but that’s the way it is. If Adams cared more about winning championships, and demanding excelllence, Richt would have been fired after last year, but he cares much more about raising money than he does about winning. Nothing will change if Richt goes 8-4 and beats Tech, and UGA fans will get what they want, a mediocre coach running a mediocre program. The nightmare will continue in Athens.

CMR will play more freshmen this year than he has ever played. The only freshmen that will get to red shirt is on the defensive line.
Dantzler and DeBell will probably both play because the offensive line is so short of depth.Drew, Marshall,Swann, Rome, Wesley, will all lose their red shirt, I think that Seay will also play because he is closer to a 4-star than 3 and is better than we think. The biggest impact players will be Drew and from what I hear Herrera has the potential of being great. If we use Marshall to maximize his talent he can be great. It will all depend on how quick they learn the play’s and system.

You told a lie when you said anyone can win big with a Tebow or Newton. CMR wouldn’t win big with Newton at TE as he recruited him at that position for UGa. At UGa Tebow is a FB or TE, whose primary duties would be to block for the dump pass first offense. Do you think either one of these guys win Heismans & National Championships at UGa playing TE ? NO WAY. If a coach has lost the ability to correctly evaluate star quality athletes and help them reach their FULL potential at the correct position, then they are wasting talent and driving talent to their rival who will take that player and whip CMR & UGa. CMR’s oc, Bobo doesn’t have the ability to effectly coach a mobile, dual threat talent at the QB position. What can he teach to a Newton or Tebow, when he himself was a immobile, nearly stationary, weak armed QB at UGa. OOPs I forgot, Bobo would teach them to stay in the pocket and hold the ball too long to pass and to take the sack instead of avoiding it. Look rather than go through all that CMR and Bobo would rather see Newton and Tebow blocking as tight ends and going 8-4, or 6-7, rather than relying on them at QB winning Heismans and National Championships. mediocre coaching has to have mediocre players playing mediocre ball to have mediocre seasons to satisfy mediocre fans like you Chazzo. Mark it down, the mediocrity at Georgia ends in 2011 one way or the other. Go DAWGS ! WOOF !

Rocket Science:
We can’t get mad at the last few fans around that come on the Dawg blog to sprue their eternal hate and vitriol for a once proud program. These are the true haters and we need them to continue to do a good job of hating Georgia. Meanwhile the Dawgs must continue to be true to themselves and speak pro and con about the direction of the program. There is one simple fact that may be harder for some Dawgs to admit than others but no true UGa fan is happy with an 8-5 season and 6-7 merits a no comment in order for some Dawgs to avoid excessive profanity. We all see a downward slide you got to admit it and some Dawgs take it better than others. Like it or not 2-8 vs. your primary rival shouldn’t work at UGa just like 1-4 didn’t work for Donnan, and just like 1-6 didn’t work for Goff . We can look at mediocrity in more ways than one. You may try to remain positive to ignore it and then be guilty of subconsciously supporting the mediocrity. Or you can be critical and call mediocrity out as you see it. All I can say is while Dawgs futilely bicker amongst themselves and the program backslides, SEC rivals like Bama, LSU, UF, and Auburn have went on to win recent championships with coaches that have been at those respective programs far less than 10 years. I personally feel there is no mean streak or nastiness translated from the coaches to the players and when Van Gorder left he took it all with him. We played soft, finesse football specifically last year and it showed as we only won against inferior opponents and lost to inferior opponents. The haters only come here to mock us as we languish in our mediocrity on the field and in our blogs.

Chazzo !! ATTENTION, coward ! Wherever you are right now I want you to wake your young, dumb arse up and answer this question like a man or woman(pick ‘em) : HOW MANY MORE LOSSES MUST UGA ABSORB AT THE HANDS OF UF BEFORE A COACHING CHANGE SHOULD BE MADE ? Your posts reveal your complete ignorance of the game.( If you are still in grade school, I apologize to you, and you get a free pass, which I’m sure you are accustomed to.) Remember my young dumb friend, MEDIOCRE recruiting gets MEDIOCRE coaching for MEDIOCRE players to play MEDIOCRE football for MEDIOCRE seasons for MEDIOCRE fans like you CHAZZO. I want you to take the word for the day MEDIOCRE and look it up and find out what the word means because I’m certain the word hasn’t ever popped up in your remedial vocabulary studies classes. 2011-12 the MEDIOCRITY ends.

Bill, why is it all these CMR critics never give the opposing teams or coaches any credit for winning? All these critics want to post is how horrible CMR and our players are, and how CMR refuses to change his coaching style.
I hate UGA losing a game more than anybody on these blogs but, sometimes you have to give credit to where it’s due.
Bama whipped our ass a few seasons ago in Athens, I was sitting on the 40 yard line and watched every play, we were beaten at every position, That same team won a NC.
Nobody wants to give Bama credit for having the better team, just moan and groan how bad our coaching and players performed.
Same with Auburn this past season.
Our CMR would have better luck coaching if alot more UGA fans would quit moaning about his performance and support him.
To the posts above who said they would not attend any games until CMR is gone,
go to Athens this year before the 1st game and ask our players which including pratice squad is over 100 players who they would want as a coach if they could choose.
Maybe 1 or 2 would say someone other than CMR. Our players like our coach or they wouldn’t have come to UGA, don’t you people understand that.
CMR is our coach, support him or support some other team.
One thing i can promise all you so called fans is, with the Athelitic department showing a 9 million dollar profit for last years losing season, someone else would love to have your vacated seat in Sanford Stadium. If i didn’t already have one I’d take it.

Real Dawgs Drinks drink power aid,
Give me an example of one SEC or better, any NCAA team that hasn’t gone through a down period over the last 25 years. Success is cylical in the football world. If you are looking for a program that is successful and never has down periods, I am sure you can read about them in Dr. Suess books. In the real world, they do not exist. Some Pro. teams do enjoy a stretch of invincability but even they fall sooner or later. I.E. New England Patriots, Pittsburg, Colts etc. College football should be enjoyed for what it is. I have heard all the whinning about CMR and UGA etc. But were you whinning when CMR took them to 10 win seasons? When UGA has a decent season this year, will you be whinning then? My guess is yes, because it is easier to put out vitril than it is to use common sense and look at the big picture. You can complain all you want about CMR and UGA, but I sense a lot of these negative posters on here, never did care for UGA and I guess they think in their minds that acting foolishly and insulting UGA fans, players and coaches affords them their 15 minutes of fame. Personally, I don’t need an ego boost at the expense of insulting anybody, but then again, I am probably a lot older, and have lived a full and exciting life, so I just prefer to be positive about the whole thing. Football is a game, and not meant to be an obsession.

Richt’s Nepotism a few years ago regarding not starting freshman, benching Stafford, to start the son of his friend Joe T, cost Georgia a season. When you let players start, who havn’t earned it, and you pass by other players, who have earned it, if you’re doing it because he’s a friend, a senior, religious, nicer, more like you, whatever, that needs to stop. Just give it to the guy that’s earned it. Or continue to go 6-7 because you waste talent.

Erik, you are absolutly correct. Richt must play his Freshman dream team now. Take some lumps and hope he does not get fired. UGA’s O-line might be too bad to overcome. Grantham’s D might keep them in games. 7-6 at best.

@1962 Dawg: Excellent post. Richt has some low points as everyone does, but several of the losses that everyone complains about were against national championship teams. In fact in 2008 (the big disappointment year even though we won 10), UGA played four NC teams (2007-2010) and made a trip across country in between. Georgia plays good teams as everyone in the SEC does. Last year’s bowl against UCF is an instance of UGA losing to a team they should have beat, but UCF is still a pretty good team. Those “lesser” FL schools are coming along.

Rocket Science:
To be honest with you I was not impressed or taken in with CMR as you were when he was winning 10 games. Think about the last 10 win season in 2008, UGa underachieved and fell far from expectations. Guys like you want to extend contracts for a coach that wins only 10 games when he has the team to possibly win all 13. That’s what I call being an apologist for mediocrity because you are so taken in by the coach personally you want everbody to see things your dumb way. Well it doesn’t work like that because everybody doesn’t drink the kool-aid like you. The Bama rout ‘Tween the Hedges will go down in UGa imfamy, because it exposed how tender UGa is with CMR and it triggered the backslide which still ensues to this day. It maybe acceptable to fans like you because you love CMR whether he wins or loses. So to shut you up RS, okay I give up, give CMR a lifetime contract and throw out the mediorce 2-8 record and let’s keep losing to UF, and watch S.C. and KY. pass us by. Let’s keep CMR and let him continue recruiting screwups and watch SEC teams take Georgia products and whip us with them, while CMR takes run and gun, dual threat QBs and transforms them to forgotten TEs that will never be used in his washed-up offense, coached by a guy (who also is a friend of my family that we love as a person), Bobo, who is in over his head at OC, but is a QB coach only for a certain type of Qb. (Immobile like he was at UGa). Let’s just keep a soft head coach who goes easy on the players when he begs them to Get After Their Hinies guys and yells out: I think I know what the hell I’m doing, when reasonably questioned on his poor decisions. Okay RS, let’s just settle with a coach that his mentor, Bobby Bowden to this day still questions if what little toughness CMR has in circumvented and blocked out by his religious beliefs. Let’s just keep UGa paying a guy 3 million each year for winning the SEC one year w/ Donnans’ guys and one year without for life. I’m sorry for lying to you but I just can’t drink the loon kool-aid you drink because you accept mediocrity and I never will. I debated UGa fans in 2001 when CMR was hired and everyone said be quiet, give the man a chance and 10 years later look at were we are at: STILL can’t beat UF, STILL can’t win big games and now losing to CF, a program even Savannah State once beat. I told Dawgs in ‘01 the FSU fans were so happy to see CMR leave, but his offensive mindset will eventually wind up failing at Georgia because it creates a losing conflict. We a not a pass to set the run school, that’s ACC ball, you gotta run to set the pass in the SEC to win big. We expect a coach to primarily establish the run at UGa. No, “You ain’t a Rocket Scientist “, I’ll let you sit on your brains and enjoy the final year of mediocrity along with your fellow delusional kool-aiders, reprobates like Chazzo the Dumbo, SGE LapDog88, and 62 Lapdog. Meanwhile POWER-aiders like Don’t Get IT Dawg, Dawgs4ever, and myself will continue to call it like we see it until the mediocrity finally ends and the winning big again at Georgia begins !!!

Chasso Dumbo: ATTENTION: First you need to take off the rose colored glasses which totally has blinded you about the coaching crisis at UGa. Then you need to stop guzzling kool-aid from unclean milk jugs. It’s obvious from your post you really don’t know too much about football or your football I.Q. is smaller than your shoe size. You showed me how DUMB you are when you said anyone can win with a Tebow or Newton. If a burnt out coach does not know how to correctly evalute the talent of a Newton or Tebow, then he will not place them in the correct position on the field where they can be most effective. With this weak minded philosophy currently at UGa Cam Newton is now recruited as a TE, because the offensive coordinator/Qb coach doesn’t have a clue how to coach a mobile 6′-6”, 250 pound dual threat spread/option beast at Qb. Bobo, as I remember was a very fragile, limited, immobile, qb with below average arm strength during his day at UGa. He had to play from the shoulders up with a coach mentality at the qb position. This guy isn’t equipped with a full load of knowledge to coach a 6′-3”,236 pound wrecking ball like Tebow using a spread/option offense. At UF, under CUM, Tebow never really had to know how to properly throw a football out of a pro-set offense, because he terrified defensive coordinators with the run, thus leaving defenses vunerable to the pass when then safeties and CBs were forced to comeup in run support. In CMR’s offensive mind Cam Newton and Tim Tebow are recruited as TEs and will go on to obscure and unproductive college football careers in his washed-up system. So that’s why a Tebow or Newton wouldn’t dare come to Georgia so their talent could be wasted by CMR. They did what was in their best interest, avoided abysmal Georgia to go on to win Heismans and Nat’l. Titles with SEC rival schools UF and AU. He squandered DJ Shockley’s career a UGa by wasting 3 years of his career on the bench. And if CMR has his way he’ll do the same thing to incoming freshman Christian LeMay, who pound per pound is the Best All-Around QB currently on the UGa roster. If the regime at UGa is allowed to continue to steal more money to waste more talent how can anyone blame a LeMay to transfer as all the highly recruits have from Georgia. All you apologists and appeasers can continue the twisted slobbering love affair with CMR and you guys can continue to kiss his arrogant, big game losing rear end after he lead Georgia to yet another disappointing season. GO Dawgs drink POWER-aid, not kool-aid or gaiter-aid !!

Real Dawgs drink,
You have your opinion and I have mine. It seems to me, that no matter what team you were supposedly for, you would expect every season to be perfect. Name me one team in the SEC or NCAA for that fact, that hasn’t had a few down years. If you are looking for perfection you will always be dissatisfied. I don’t care who you have for a coach, the coach can’t stop fumbles or motivate the guys to put out anymore effort than they want to. You recruit them on potential and sometimes they fail to live up to that potential. The coach can’t stop injuries either. He got a revamped S and C coach in hopes that they will be stronger and better prepared for the coming years. CMR is not standing still. He can coach and he realizes areas he needs to correct and he will. There are a lot of teams out there that would love to have had the success that the DAWGS have had over the last ten years. Our offense will be young but I bet they will not lack for conditioning or physical strength. If a few of these youngsters step up, UGA will be formidable. I think our defense will be a good unit also, so I say, let’s just wait and see how the team does on the field before all of the crying and complaining starts again. If UGA comes out with 10 wins this year, I guess that will not be good enough for you, but given the youth and the injuries that have already occurred, I would rate 10 wins or even nine as highly successful. In 2012, our freshman class will be ready to step it up as well, so I see good things in UGA’s future.

I go to UGA and eat with some football players in the dining hall. I am by no means a small guy at 6′2″ and 220. But Ray Drew is an ungodly sized freshman. Most freshman in general stand out because their small or short, but this guy is the same size as our freshman and looks like he is 25. Don’t count him out making 2nd team All-SEC this year and being a force for years to come.

We are defending Richt because he has EARNED the right to have another year or so to right the ship. Fourth most wins in active coaches in the NCAA and you want to fire him for two bad years? Let me remind all of you how mediocre UGA was in the 90’s!! Richt brought back the taste of a SEC title to Athens for the first time since the herschel days and that has made us all entitled so we all expect that every year. Well in the SEC it doesnt happen like that unless you cheat like Saban and sign 40 players a year or be like Spurrier and not kick your hoodlum qb off the team after 6 arrests. Which is another reason i want him to stay, he does things the right way and i am positive we would never face an Ohio St type situation with Richt in charge. Oh and whoever said Uga fans dont mind finishing third in the east…you’re an idiot

I always felt that 10 win thing was a dubious distinction. I think Richt has made some mistakes and just had some bad luck with balancing recruiting. I think he is too kind to older players and coaches. He has made some bone head calls, but he has also made some outstanding calls. I agree with what most people say about mediocrity. He blew the lid off, but there is a new lid. How’s that for rose colored glasses?
Thing is: I don’t find it necessary to blither, fart, and throw up about it every frickin day on every frickin post regardless of what the forum is about.

PS DJ did not sit the bench for 3 years. He was an integral part of the team and played quite a bit. There were times that he made mistakes when he was in there. If he had not, it may have been Greene coming off the bench throughout the game. One of the years he sat the bench was due to a knee injury. Unfortunately he was injured against UF. Unfortunately, the team didn’t show up against Wes Virginia in the first half.
DJ is great…. a great athlete, a great man. I love DJ, but what did he do when he was in there that makes people think he should have started ahead of Greene? I have a similar question about Gray. When he got it games, what did he do that was so stellar? I think the big difference between then and now is that the team wanted to win and rallied around the coaches’ decision.
Who knows, maybe if DJ had been an uncontested starter from his freshman year, he would have been even greater. Probably so… I think we all have to admit, though, that the schedule he played his senior year was the easiest UGA has ever faced. There were actually times that he looked bored out there.
