Let's hope this is some some fan's Photoshop fevered nightmare!
Ever since Nike started trotting out its controversial Pro Combat uniforms for some of its higher profile college football customers, rumors of a UGA variation have been circulating, usually accompanied by Photoshop faked pictures, most of them pretty nightmarish.
The rumors have taken on new life since the deal for the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome with Boise State in September was announced. After all, the Broncos already have worn Pro Combat uniforms, most recently in their bowl game, and a high-profile game like that naturally would attract Nike’s attention.
The most recent chatter about the Dogs going the Pro Combat route, in the blog From Hedges to Hardwood, notes that the rumor surfaced again on what appears to be the Facebook page of recent Georgia signee John Jenkins. As the rumor goes, the deal to play in the Chick-fil-A game supposedly includes a stipulation of wearing Pro Combats.
I understand that the kids playing today like these sort of tricked up uniforms. After all, the players favored those awful black helmets that Mark Richt used to try to motivate his team in Jacksonville a couple of years ago.
But to date, I have not been a fan of most of the Pro Combat outfits I’ve seen. I particularly didn’t like the alligator skin motif design the Florida Gators were given last season, though their recent bowl uniforms were an improvement.
The red uniform offered up by From Hedges to Hardwood isn’t that bad, but the other with the white helmet and black jersey featured on the Jenkins FB page is just plain tacky. Since both are probably fan-made fakes, though, there’s no telling what a Georgia Pro Combat uniform might actually look like.

This alleged Pro Combat uniform floating about the Internet would be tolerable.
Most UGA fans I’ve heard from don’t like the idea of messing with the uniforms at all. What do you think of going Pro Combat for the Boise game?
Meanwhile, the hype in advance of the arrival in Athens of the aforementioned Mr. Jenkins continues to grow. Dawgs247 quotes his college coach, Steve Campbell of Gulf Coast Community College, comparing Jenkins favorably with a previous player he sent to the SEC, Alabama’s Terrence “Mount” Cody.

John Jenkins (Gulf Coast Community College)
“I’d say John is a real similar football player,” Campbell said. “I think he’ll be the same kind of impact player at Georgia that T.C. was at Alabama. … Guys like that, you know it immediately. The first time we saw T.C., we knew it. It’s the same thing with big John.”
That’s a lot to live up to, but Jenkins certainly will get a chance to make a big splash early against Boise — whether clad in a Nike Pro Combat or just the traditional red and silver.

How about orange jumpsuits? It would save time when they book into the Clarke County Detention Center, as they would already be in uniform.

Silver britches haven’t won us a national championship in 31 years. Florida has worn all kinds of uniform combinations the past 20 years and have 3 national championships and have owned UGA. Oregon, the king of bad and varying uniforms has risen mightily.
Bottom line, I don’t care what the uniforms looks like as long as they feature red and black.

Bama did the Nike Combat last season. UGA should stay far away from this stuff. On a side note, ask anyone that has come back from combat if they like the “Pro Combat” tag on football uniform.

It’s just one game. Let the kids wear whatever they want. All that really matters is how well they play on the field.

I’m cool with it as long as it’s more on the subtle side.
With all the complaining that our fans do about uniform changes, why do I not hear much about wearing light gray pants instead of silver? Maybe it’s b/c the old fogies who do the complaining can’t tell the difference between gray and silver. We’ve been wearing these lame light gray pants the last several years and I don’t understand why. They look like crap. I thought we were supposed to be wearing silver britches?

Mount jenkins? A little premature to compare him to Mt. Cody.
Jenkins was the 10th rated JUCO prospect last year. Who was the number one rated JUCO prospect in the nation? Another Nose Tackle- 6′4 330 lb Jessie Williams who also bench presses almost 600 lbs. Where is the real heir to Mount Cody? He’s at Alabama going through spring drills ready to assume his position as the true heir.
Williams is the real deal. Jenkins is just a poor Georgia man’s version of what Alabama had and has again.

God forbid that we should wear a white helmet that looks like Carolina head-on. Let’s not state a losing tradition by wearing what losers wear.

Georgia will win the SEC and MNC this year, and none of their players will become incarcerated.
The starters will each earn 4.0 GPAs as well.

They should wear pink jerseys with glitter and sprinke fairy dust after every touchdown instead of dancing a jig, and what not.
Matteroffact, put some purple and pewter hearts on the helmets. Pink helmets, of course.
This is pleasing to his majesty.

For Homecoming I’d like to see a “throwback” uniform like the ones prior to Dooley’s arrival. Silver helmets, Red jerseys w/ silver numbers and silver britches. Oh yeah, time to swap to Under Armour because Nike can’t get silver right!

Do not give into this Nike crap. None of the big schools go for it. Does Alabama? Not a chance. The Bear would be doing double backflips in his grave.

Bill I’m with you. I like the old uniforms for both UGA and Tech. We are not Ducks and have a long history behind both schools. You don’t see ND or Southern Cal changing their uniforms. Leave the uniforms alone and work on winning!

That gimmick uniform stuff hasn’t seemed to help us lately; it just makes us look bad while looking bad. How ’bout we just go out and play Georgia football.

The black jerseys are why we lost to Alabama! I don’t care if we beat Auburn and won the Sugar Bowl in them the year before! I fear change! I wear a red shirt on gamedays and I’ll be d*mned if I ever have to wear black again!

Who in the world came up with the name “Nike Combat Uniforms”. When I was in the service and in a war, I don’t remember my helmet, shirt or pants looking anything like football uniforms. Can a flak vest be far off for the players? LOL.

Ga should change their helmets for certain games—they can wear white or black helmets for road games and the red helmet at home, with red pants. I’m tired of the helmets they have now–changes are needed!

The nightmare at UGA is coach Mark Richt. Eveyone blames anything else under the sun for our problems. Richt has poor game day strategy, he is not a motivator, and he is a poor judge of talent.
He has hired weak to terrible assistants. The new OL coach? Come on!
Wake up UGA fans and alumni, we deserve a top of the line coach.

Showmedog,
I think UGA deserves top notch fans, one of which you are not. The true fans support their team and do not continuosly gripe about the coaches, the players and lend fuel to the fans(?) of other teams that come on these blogs to support fair weather fans like you and put down the DAWGS.

Can they do more black uniforms for special games like Tennessee and Auburn? The red jerseys are getting tired looking. Go with white jerseys and black pants on the road and black jerseys and white pants for key home games.
