Let's hope this is some some fan's Photoshop fevered nightmare!
Ever since Nike started trotting out its controversial Pro Combat uniforms for some of its higher profile college football customers, rumors of a UGA variation have been circulating, usually accompanied by Photoshop faked pictures, most of them pretty nightmarish.
The rumors have taken on new life since the deal for the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome with Boise State in September was announced. After all, the Broncos already have worn Pro Combat uniforms, most recently in their bowl game, and a high-profile game like that naturally would attract Nike’s attention.
The most recent chatter about the Dogs going the Pro Combat route, in the blog From Hedges to Hardwood, notes that the rumor surfaced again on what appears to be the Facebook page of recent Georgia signee John Jenkins. As the rumor goes, the deal to play in the Chick-fil-A game supposedly includes a stipulation of wearing Pro Combats.
I understand that the kids playing today like these sort of tricked up uniforms. After all, the players favored those awful black helmets that Mark Richt used to try to motivate his team in Jacksonville a couple of years ago.
But to date, I have not been a fan of most of the Pro Combat outfits I’ve seen. I particularly didn’t like the alligator skin motif design the Florida Gators were given last season, though their recent bowl uniforms were an improvement.
The red uniform offered up by From Hedges to Hardwood isn’t that bad, but the other with the white helmet and black jersey featured on the Jenkins FB page is just plain tacky. Since both are probably fan-made fakes, though, there’s no telling what a Georgia Pro Combat uniform might actually look like.

This alleged Pro Combat uniform floating about the Internet would be tolerable.
Most UGA fans I’ve heard from don’t like the idea of messing with the uniforms at all. What do you think of going Pro Combat for the Boise game?
Meanwhile, the hype in advance of the arrival in Athens of the aforementioned Mr. Jenkins continues to grow. Dawgs247 quotes his college coach, Steve Campbell of Gulf Coast Community College, comparing Jenkins favorably with a previous player he sent to the SEC, Alabama’s Terrence “Mount” Cody.

John Jenkins (Gulf Coast Community College)
“I’d say John is a real similar football player,” Campbell said. “I think he’ll be the same kind of impact player at Georgia that T.C. was at Alabama. … Guys like that, you know it immediately. The first time we saw T.C., we knew it. It’s the same thing with big John.”
That’s a lot to live up to, but Jenkins certainly will get a chance to make a big splash early against Boise — whether clad in a Nike Pro Combat or just the traditional red and silver.

When Penn State and Alabama wear different uniforms than traditional, then “consider” it!

The real combat uniforms are worn by the men and women in our Armed Forces. To call a uniform worn to play a mere game a “combat uniform” is a slap in the face of Military. Especially when they are so darn UGLY. Stay with tradition.

funny I dont recall Alabama still wearing that same short middrift jersey as was popular in the 90s. Or the boxy cut pants.Certainly they dont wear the tear away anymore. (or leather helmets to take it to the extreme).

I believe we have about a 50-50 split on the responses on this blog as to who likes or dislikes combat uniforms.
If CMR decides these uniforms are going to make the players happy and play harder, we will see them soon.

So what is the problem Bill? Tacky uniforms for a tacky program – It is a perfect match for UGA.

There IS nothing wrong with the black helmets except your memory of the games played. That may have made them nightmarish to you, but it wouldn’t have mattered with any other color. It’s the heart in the uni and another color could have made them play worse. Your negative take on a good-looking uni and helmet doesn’t reflect most of our opinions. As I recall when they first appeared most had great reviews. I still like that helmet and uni and hope we wear it again under different circumstances. It looks great and as I recall over 90% of the student body felt the same way as reflected by the number wearing black t-shirts. And I don’t recall you questioning it back then.

The top photo is similar to the 40’s uniform. The only difference is the helmet. Everything else pretty much looks the same. Of course I am speaking about the colors. Let’s hope it becomes a reality. I like the top photo. How is the second photo (red jerseys) any different from what UGA wears now? Oh well, that’s my 2 cent.

One thing for sure, don’t ever again wear red jerseys with black pants…we did that once in Jacksonville and came away with ‘we looked like the Red-Coat Band and played like ‘em too – and I don’t mean music.
As for PB…your boys from Boise are gonna make this the last game they come East for. They should have lost last season against VT and only won on a fluke. Bet you they ended up glad they didn’t have to play ‘em (VT) at the end of the season. Georgia’s gonna take it to ‘em like they were Hawaii or something and their QB’s Heisman chances are gonna be over before it starts.

UGA might squeak by Boise State with their outfits. Great job with the blackout vs. Bama. You don’t see the Tide messing with perfection. Richt is a joke. You don’t need new unis to compete with the SEC elite, just new coaches and players. Way to shoot for winning the SEC East. I understand that it is unlikely, but it is important to aim for mediocrity. Enjoy your consistency in mediocrity. Roll Tide!!

This defense was horrible against the run last year.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
I’m not sure the 3-4 can really stop the run, you only have 3 lineman going against 5 or 6 with a tight end.

Nike pays UGA to wear the uniform. The kids like the idea. Win, win. Stop being an old poot, Bill. I would venture to say that most of the people you talk to are old poots as well. It’s still mind numbing that an old poot who doesn’t understand the dynamics of modern football, not to mention putting jaded vendettas on the team, writes this blog.

Slob, hehe with the incest jokes. Guess your precious V. Dooley and Barbara are cousins? I understand Georgia’s inferiority complex. How can a state with a fraction of your population win so many championships and you and the nerd school suck so bad? Let me give you and the rest of your limp-wristed state a little advice: quit worrying about what you’re wearing on Saturdays and focus on things like tackling, blocking and being better than your opponents. Even if you start doing that, the University of Georgia will NEVER equal the status in college football as that of the University of Alabama.

They should also sew a dog tail on the back of the pants . Man that would be a funny sight to see a WR or RB running down the field wagging his tail while making a touchdown.

i like the idea of a pro combat uniform, UGA deserves something like that, WVU got ‘em, why would schools like UGA and other SEC schools get them, guarantee Nike makes money from UGA fans if it does happen. i liked both of the uniforms, the black jersey uniform should change the helmet, it reminds a lot of S. Carolina’s helmet,
other than that i like it.

@PB, the funny thing is that You call Boise a perennial powerhouse that UGA does not stand a chance against and then predict a Boise victory by almost the same score as the last time they played UGA. It was 48-13, a UGA dismantling of that “powerhouse.” LOL
This year be ready for much of the same. The Dawgs are bigger, faster, and after an embarrassing season LY they are ready to destroy someone. I feel sorry for the little guys this year again but they don’t belong over here playing the Big Boys!

@RTR, Richt is a pathetic 3-1 Vs Bama. The 1 win Bama had was against a team with a MASH unit on the field. We had a DT playing left tackle in that game our O-line was so depleted from injuries and 5 of our front 7 was gone for the season with injuries! If You think that is not a problem then explain why Bama got slaughtered by Utah with a backup at LT. I’ll tell You, they could not keep their QB on his feet! Remember, 1 bad season does not mean a team or a coach is done. If that were true Saban should have been done after the LA Monroe debacle and Bear would have won all his championships elsewhere!

NEVER, EVER mess with the traditional uniforms. Tradition is what makes college football so special. Alabama, Auburn, Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas,…….the list goes on and on, don’t have to resort to those gimmicky, tacky uniforms. Leave that to the schools that have just recently become “powerhouses”, i.e. Florida, Oregon, Boise, etc. Leave our red helmets and silver britches alone!!!

All those neat uniforms the Oregon team wore last year, din’t help them out one bit in the mythical national title game now did they? Having said that, if they could somehow help UGA win games, I say let em come out in NCAA approved corsets and thongs, if it makes them play better. On second though, cover them up with at least some type of uniform pants. That is a scarey thought, this early in the day.

One problem that UGA has is the NIKE uniforms are for ELITE PROGRAMS. NIKE will wait until you get to be an ELITE PROGRAM. Now that was funny.
A formal unveiling of the uniform took place at an event on Wednesday morning held by Nike in New York City. Alabama will be one of 10 elite football programs to feature the Nike Pro Combat uniform this season. Alabama is joined by Boise State University, the University of Florida, the University of Miami, The Ohio State University, Oregon State University, the University of Pittsburgh, Texas Christian University (TCU), Virginia Tech University and West Virginia University.
Alabama will wear them against Mississippi State on Nov. 13
- Their design is called “The Next Wave”
- The jersey numbers will be “coded” with a Houndstooth check
- The helmet will have a Houndstooth stripe
- Crimson jersey; white pants with a “truncated” crimson stripe. “A” logo on the pants
- There will also be an American flag on the jersey, as they are wearing it after Veteran’s Day
- Glove fingers will have Discipline, Commitment, Toughness, Effort and Pride written on them
