Bulldog quotables: On fourth-quarter struggles, suspensions and more

Mark Richt still thinks Washaun Ealey can be great. (Associated Press)

It was an interesting week for the Bulldog Nation, with a big win for the basketball Dogs, some personnel moves in football and the first fresh comments we’ve had in a while from Mark Richt and his team as they get ready to start spring practice on Thursday.

Here are a few Bulldog quotes from the week that stuck with me, some of which might prompt further discussion …

“We didn’t do mat drills this year because the workouts kind of eliminated that. Every day is a mat drill. Every day you’re working hard. Doing these workouts, we’ll definitely be a stronger fourth quarter team. If you look at last year, we really couldn’t finish in the fourth quarter. I feel like these workouts will eliminate that fourth-quarter struggle.”

— Tavarres King discussing Georgia’s new workout regimen, which made the old mat drills obsolete, and confirming what we’d all concluded last season: The Dogs were not in good shape and faded in the fourth quarter.

“My leg got amputated last weekend, so I’ve only got one leg. I’ve got to steal one to play the season with.”

— Aaron Murray tweaking campus newspaper The Red and Black, which misreported he had broken his ankle in two places after he sprained it playing in a pickup game of soccer.

“Most days I thank him for that.”

— Mark Fox on LSU coach Trent Johnson, who introduced Fox to his future wife.

“We want him to be great and he can be if he really takes the right attitude towards it. … We just wanted to grab his attention in all areas, though. I told him and I’ll tell all our guys this: Especially our tailback position is a position of honor, a position of tradition. It’s a position you need to respect, and you need to be the very best you can possibly be.”

Mark Richt on Washaun Ealey’s suspension and subsequent reinstatement to the team.

“Just watching the way he runs, he closes on people, the way he can blitz, I think he can be a unique player at that position.”

— Todd Grantham on Alec Ogletree and his move from safety to inside linebacker.

“This has been a great experience here. I had fun the whole time I was here.”

— Jeremy Price of the basketball Dogs on Senior Night.

“We faced a below-average pitcher that we couldn’t put things together against. That’s just the game. That’s guys getting out of their element and not taking care of their situation and putting pressure on guys behind them. It’s the game that we have to play better and the game that we have to execute better.”

— Baseball coach David Perno after his struggling Diamond Dogs suffered a shutout loss to Furman.

“I was lying on the ground saying, ‘I don’t want to talk to Coach Bobo right now.’”

— Aaron Murray on how he felt immediately after injuring that ankle.

“I want these guys to live their lives and enjoy it. It seems like no matter what you do, somebody can still stumble down the steps and get hurt. So I’ve never really done that.”

— Mark Richt on why he doesn’t forbid members of his team from playing other sports.

“We’ve got to get him healthy. The poor kid has been hurt the entire year.”

— Mark Fox on Trey Thompkins, whose latest ailment threatening his playing time is an ingrown toenail.

“This year, it’s kind of like do-or-die.”

— Brandon Boykin, offering a concise summation of the football Dogs’ mind-set about the 2011 season.

Feel free to sound off on any of that or whatever else about UGA sports is on your mind this weekend.

Ealey’s already great. Matching Herschel Walker in ypc and td per carry ratio.

Bobo only scored 18 points a game against winning teams, Grantham gave up 28 points a game against winning teams.

Put the qoutes with the person before hand and they are hilarious…. example…

Baseball coach David Perno after his struggling Diamond Dogs suffered a shutout loss to Furman.

Bobo averaged 10th in scoring in SEC against winning teams.

Grantham was 6th in SEC in scoring against winning teams.

I find the Murray quote about Murray’s injury, fearing Bobo (not Richt), and then Richt saying Murray’s decision was absolutely fine, telling.

D A ,

Morning. Sorry, no news. If Ohio State has formally appealed the NCAA I have not seen it. Assuming the 5 games hold, and Ohio State goes to another ( yes, another) BCS game, they will play 13 games, not 10.

Work on your math D A along with your spelling.

Terrelle, I believe, had tatts when he arrived, notably the “T” an “P” on his sculpted triceps. Not sure what he’s added since.

Howard (before I was Trey) seems to have tatted up diring his “dawg” days. Can’t quite make them out on TV but believe the word “blessed” is part of the artistry.

You know I am a legitimate Howard ( before I was Trey) fan. I hope he plays today. Really not interested if he’s not able to go.

Finally, D A , they say flattery is the ultimate compliment. (Put that in your parantheses) and smoke it.

Warmest Saturday Regards,

Buckeye

There seems to be concern over Ohio State the the suspensions for the first 5 (pending appeal) games.

Here’s something that will warm your hears. As Sean says, “Let not your hearts be troubled”.

Young freshman Braxton Miller is enrolled, will participate in Spring Drills and will compete for playing time. Dual threat, sub 4.5, better arm/mechanics than Pryor.

D A, thought you’d like to see a few highlights…..

Dillan, you are the same person who comes on here with a one word common name and bashes murray and talks up ealey. Murray had a good year especially for a freshman. as for ealey every true uga fan wants ealey to be the greatest running back so hopefully he will get his head out of his ass and work for it and hold on to the ball while he is at it. SO PLEASE SPARE US WITH ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!!

If Murray would have been in the weight room instead of the soccer field, maybe he’d be in better shape than he was last year and be able to beat a winning team.

There were a lot of things for the dawgs to celebrate this year. Let’s see…

1. A drunken, whoring athletic director with red panties in his lap.

2. Twelve players arrested. And 41% of UGA football players are arrested during their time at UGA.

3. A player suspended for violating NCAA rules.

4. Winning the Fulmer Cup for the most players arrested.

5. Winning the title of #1 party school (i.e., the most drunken student body in the USA).

6. A sleazy assistant coach who razzes opposing players, unethical coaching conduct in violation of NCAA rules.

7. A super sleazy head coach who thinks he’s a saint, but recruits thug wannabes, gangbangers, and illiterate morons.

8. A 6-7 record despite having a team full of 4- and 5-star recruits.

That’s really something to be proud of!

“He’s my fav, had a great high school highlight video, goes to church, reads the bible, only says positive stuff, watches film a lot, so different rules apply to murray ok?”

The biggest change that CMR needs to make is to stop recruiting the low-class illiterates and thugs who he seems to think will win for him and keep his oversized paychecks coming in. People like Marcus Dowtin, A.J. Green, Washaun Ealey, Caleb King, and others too numerous to mention are not team players, they’re thug wannabes who are much closer to a gang than a team.

It’s sickening to see felons and goons like these representing the state’s flagship university.

Interesting how these ‘thug’ comments keep coming up by the same poster over and over again. Also interesting that he always chooses the same four or five black players to call out. Sounds like the same guy who has has an axe to grind about the racial makeup of the ‘O’ line.

So funny to listen to Dillian come on here and bad mouth a freshman QB who was close to setting all the single season QB records at UGA. The kid is a hard worker, is in QB shape, and loves to study film. He does not have to be in LB shape as much as he needs to be in “football IQ” shape to play his position. I’ll take a smart QB over an in shape QB any day. It just so happens, in Murray, we get both!

Hey Dillian, how many minutes can You run a soccer field. Playing soccer will keep You in cardiovascular shape. Get off your fat arse and try it some time!

AJ Green saying it was an HONEST MISTAKE selling his Jersey when asked about by NFL officials at the combine. I guess AJ doesn’t understand the word HONEST or MISTAKE. Every Kid in the NCAA knows you can’t sell your stuff. The Dawgs that sold their rings on EBay caused this rule. A UGA player didn’t know that was WRONG and not a MISTAKE? HAHAHAHAH right.

Since Mark Bradley lost his battle in trying to get Richt fired after the season, he is now sucking hindtit and trying to weasle his way into Richt’s good graces. So to continue to spew his hate and jealously of Coach Richt, he has had to take up some stupid pen name like Dillan.

I still don’t understand how and where all the NCAA players get and afford all the tattoos. Don’t you have to be 18 to get one still? If they are 18 they probably are in college and so broke they have to sell their rings and jerseys. How can they afford all that body art?
