Kirk Olivadotti apparently is casting his lot with Mark Richt. (Washington Redskins)
Assuming all goes as the Washington Post has reported, Georgia luring Washington Redskins assistant Kirk Olivadotti to Athens looks like a good hire.
It gives UGA another veteran coach with NFL ties and plenty of experience working with linebackers in the kind of defense Todd Grantham wants to run.
But to me the most interesting aspect of this impending move by Olivadotti is that he was the longest tenured member of the Redskins coaching staff, having worked under seven head coaches over the past 11 seasons (including Steve Spurrier), and yet he’s leaving to join a college coaching staff that might not still have jobs a year from now if things don’t improve quite a bit this season.
Talk about your leap of faith.
Either Grantham did a heckuva selling job on the turnaround under way with Mark Richt’s program or this guy really wanted out of D.C.
STINKING UP THE STEG
Wednesday night saw another epic collapse by Mark Fox’s basketball Bulldogs in the second half, this time against Vandy, with Georgia getting outshot and outrebounded down the stretch, scoring only three free throws in the final 9:47 while squandering a 13-point lead.
The Dogs’ fourth loss in the past six home games may not have eliminated them from NCAA bracket consideration, but their grasp on the bubble certainly is a lot more tenuous. It looks like UGA has to beat Tennessee or Florida on the road now or make quite a run in the SEC tournament to nail down a spot.
What’s wrong with the Dogs? Travis Leslie, one of Georgia’s two underperforming NBA-bound players, said he thought “we got a little complacent in the second half and let them back into it.”
A little complacent? I’d say “we couldn’t be bothered to play a full 40 minutes and just gave up” would come closer to it.
Coming into the season, everyone expected Leslie and Trey Thompkins to do big things in what’s expected to be their last season at Georgia. Time’s running out for them to live up to those expectations.

That game was an embarassment last night. Fox should be embarassed. There is no fight in this team and they showed how awful it can get. You want respect and an invite to the tournamnet and you played like that in the second half??? Sorry guys, much like the football team in 2010…you don’t deserve the post season.

Results on the field is what matters. All these hires…. whoopty-doo…. If it doesn’t result in a SEC Championship Game appearance in December then he needs to be looking for a job! He’s been saying for the last 3 years that his coaching staff is doing a “great” job and look what that “great” job has produced over the last 3 years. Nada except a steady decline for the program. I have no patience for Richt and I personally think he should have been fired after this past season. The only reason he didn’t get fired is because Evans decided to celebrate his new contract a little too early. Proof is in the pudding and right now the pudding is very runny!!

well, it’s good to see CMR doing _something_ this year as opposed to the way things have gone (keeping Martinez for 2-3 years longer than he should have comes to mind). It at least gives the feel that there’s a sense of urgency that seems to have been lacking in years past. I’ve been really critical of the program the last year or so, but I sincerely hope Richt is turning things around. We’ll see. Lord knows, talent-wise, we should be able to handle Boise and KFC the first 2 weeks. It will be interesting to see if teh coaching staff will have the team ready to play and can get past the mindset of the last 2 years.

I’m not sure what the source of that confidence would be. Georgia has been a terribly coached team under Richt since ‘06, except for the second half run in ‘07. Even that year Georgia was mediocre until the run that began (ironically) with the Florida game. Richt got right back to form after that, losing the last three in a row to UF including two embarrassing blowouts. Anyone else out there tired of this? Surely there’s someone out there who could be competitive with UF, if nothing else. I’d settle for someone who doesn’t wet his shorts every time he see orange and blue.

Of course this isn’t a vote of confidence. Richt’s own AD doesn’t have confidence in Richt, he refuses to extend Richt’s contract beyond the paltry 3 years, less than any coach at a major SEC program. If McGarity doesn’t believe in his own head coach, why should fans?

Georgia proved during an eight minute span why they don’t belong in the NCAA tournament. All year we heard how great UGA Basketball was going to be with two potential NBA stars on board. Actually, this team is maddening to watch — yet another case of an athletically loaded team with high expectations who can’t deliver in the clutch. They are fundamentally weak — too many turnovers at the wrong times, hit and miss rebounding, poor shot selection — and mentally they are worse. All year their M.O. has been to let up during long stretches of games. They’ve almost lost to teams they shouldn’t and they’ve blown big leads too many times now to count. You’d think they’d have learned something after almost blowing that big lead at SC. Nope. Same day different stuff. Credit Vandy for playing big boy basketball and crushing UGA down the stretch. Even when the Dawgs still led by six points I said to myself that they were going to find a way to give yet another game away. Sure enough. Choke city. McGarity needs to hire a Psychiatrist to study why teams from UGA constantly beat themselves.

Thompkins and Leslie’s NBA window is getting smaller and smaller. IMO…they need to come back for their senior year…NBA players find ways to win these games like Jenkins did for Vandy.
That said, I still believe Fox is the man for UGA (only 2 quality wins, but better road record and no bad losses…yet)

Looking at the rapid descent deline trend for Richt since 2007, where Richt’s won less games, every season, last 3 seasons running, 10 to 9 to 7 to 6 wins in 2010, there is no confidence in Richt. Richt himself isn’t confident in Richt, Richt can’t stop the decline, everything he tries fails. Richt can’t figure out what’s the source of the 3 year slide, nor can he fix it. Just not a very practical sort of fellow.

In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.
Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.

1- great recruiting class
2- new QB
3- rotating running backs
4- new defensive staff of coaches
5- reduce turnovers & penalites
6- move to 3-4 defense
7- change jersey color
8- bring back former players for pep talks
9- get a mantra like “finish the drill” which they never do

How can this hire be a vote of confidence? This guy has never coached against the spread offenses that everyone runs in college, so he will be as helpless as Grantham has been. I also doubt he has had to defend the triple option that Tech runs. Grantham hasn’t stopped the dive play yet. He looked like a deer in the headlights when he saw Tech continue to gash his defense last year. To make matters worse, when was the last time this coach had to go head to head with the scum like Trooper Taylor or Kirby Smart in recruiting 18 yr.old kids. Richt has proven once again that he has no clue when it comes to putting together a successful coaching staff. He allowed Grantham to hire one of his old buddies, just like he allowed BOOBOO to hire one of his buddies for the O.L. coach. This buddy system has proven to be a disaster the past 5 years, and it will continue next year. If RIcht has any knowledge of what type of coach it takes to win in the SEC, he would have hired them by now. UGA needs a coach with ties to the Southeast, and a coach with experience of coaching against the best coaches in the SEC.Not a coach that coached at UAB or with the pitiful Redskins. This coach must have really wanted to get out of Washington to come join a losing program that is sinking fast. He will have one year, and then he will be looking for another job. Good luck to him.The only confidence fans have in Richt anymore is that he will continue to put a terrible product on the field, and he will continue to loss against the top SEC teams. That you can depend on.

No one wants negative nancies involved anyway. If he does not get the job done McGarity will move things in a different direction but for now we need to be supportive of who we have. I for one think we have the right Man for the job. The guy wins 75% of his games and has had us within a lucky break of a NC. Every team that has won a NC got some lucky breaks along the way. Mark Richt will get us back on top! Stop being so knee jerk about one bad season and lets show a little faith!

Bill, while some of what you’re saying about the Bball team is accurate, I gotta say that your comments, to be as critical as they are, seem aa bit hollow given that about the only thing you know about basketball is that it’s round and has air in it.
Having said that the frustration of seeing the opposition ’step-up’ their defense and our not being able to respond with the same intensity is palpable – and don’t get me started on the officials or the damned ESPN announcers, they clearly, refs and anncrs, were showing favoritism toward Vandy. We couldn’t get a call to same our butts.
And Travis Leslie has got to do a better job of creating his shots and realizing when he’s got a good one. Again last night, on that critical possession at the end where he drove across the lane and threw up a prayer – sorry, it was a prayer and not ‘a good look’ as he said – if he had simply stopped in the paint and put up a six or seven foot jump shot (and with his vertical nobody would have been able to block it) the story very well could have been different. He does that a lot…getting a good shot opportunity in the key but seems to want to keep on driving in hopes that he’ll get a foul or a dunk. The boy’s got a lot more to learn.

I support Richt and Fox. I had high hopes for the BB team but unfortunately the results have not lived up to expectations. I’m certain Fox is especially disappointed. Not a BB expert but it looks like they are not deep enough – thus these second half breakdowns. Our key players are tired towards the middle of the 2nd half on and become a step slow. Personally, I feel that Fox’s coaching ability is evidenced by how well they play up til the end. Our depth is a deficiency and thus our team may not make the “Dance”. Hope we do for the kids sake, at least the NIT. Hope Fox stays!!! It may take a few years to build up a better team with enough good players that our team will be fresh down the stretch. Leslie’s comment seemed lame but maybe he’s covering for his teammates that are not good enough to get on the court – Any reasonable opinions would be appreciated.

Fox has proven once again that he can’t coach when the game is on the line. Wonder if he ever thought of calling timeouts and design a play specifically to get the ball in his playmakers hands at crunch time? His players look confused and out of control at crunch time, and that is bad coaching. For a team to go 10 minutes and not make a basket with a double digit lead, and playing in front of a home crowd is pathetic.Add this terrible coaching with 2 of the most overrated players in college basketball, and you have a team that loses 4 out of 5 games at home against top 50 ranked RPI teams. Thompkins goes 2 for 10 from the field, scores 8 points, while his counterpart from Vandy hits 5 three point shots going down the stretch. And this clown thinks he will succeed in the NBA. Good luck. This guy has completely disappeared in big games, and he got abused in the paint against Vandy’s big men. Go ahead kool-aid drinkers, and brag about Fox and how he is such a great coach, and how he has turned the program around with 17 wins. The 17 wins mean nothing if you can’t beat but 2 out of 8 teams with winning records. That total will be 2 out of11 after Tenn, Fl,&Bama road games. That is very impressive for a coach with 2 preseason all conference players on his team.Hate to tell you kool-aid drinkers, but winning 20% of your big games makes you a terrible coach. Hell Richt at least can win 50% of his games now.

Coach Richt has done a few things to help the Dawgs in 2011. New OL coach and S&C coach WILL help. Having Aaron Murray with a year under his belt will help. Having a year under thier belt with the new D will help with some new talent in the mix. A J gone, call me crazy, might help. Murray might of tried to hard last year to get him the ball and exposed us. Sense of urgency might help. Easy schedule might help. Crowell might be the real deal, which might help. The looked and played bad last year. I’m saying we’ll see an improvement. He needs to win 8 and look good in the losses.

Our BB team seems to have a pattern of folding in the second half. Right now, I will be surprised if they make the NCAA tourney. Quite frankly they are not an NCAA tourney caliber team. They might make the Madison Square Garden Tourney. Trey Tompkins needs to come back for his senior year, he is a long way from ever making an NBA team. He has serious NBA skill shortfalls.

Shawn, true Dawg fans are sick and tired of losing big games in Football&Basketball. The reason UGA’s programs are in the pitiful state they are in now is because of fans like you that prasie mediocrity. I guess you are content with the past 5 years of watching Richt get outcoached and our team not be competitive in big games. Or i guess you are content watching this basketball team totally collapse at crunch time of big games. I am one of the true fans that doesn’t accept mediocrity from coaches that are being paid millions of dollars to consistently get outcoached and consistently not have his teams prepared. If you were a CEO of a major company the results that Richt has produced the past 3 years would be unacceptable. His has brought this program to the bottom of the SEC, while he has sit and watched our major rivals bring in new fresh coaches that have hired competent assistants, and they have beat Richt’s team into submission by the second half. You keep drinking the kool-aid, but why don’t you go be a fan of Ga.Tech or Clemson, because those are the only 2 teams in the Southeast that except mediocrity, and you would fit right in,

Couldn’t have asked for a more exciting recruiting situation this season and now we’re getting proven assistant coaches to come to what many call a volatile situation. Leads me to believe that great things are on the horizon in Athens! I really didn’t expect UGA’s defense to be very good last season in year one of Grantham’s shakeup but season two should be very good. Loads of talent coming back and more coming in will resemble the Junkyard D that us dawg fans have been missing for quite a while now. If a lack of success in 2011 occurs, I am sure that McGarity will tell the coaches thar you have only 1 more year to turn it around or you are gone. No changes for the next 2 years.I still believe that the return to SEC elite will occur in 2011 & 2012. Hope that this confidence is justified.

Can’t fault him for the T though. Fox was not walking away till he got one, that was his goal at that point.
Would love to know what Fox kept asking him.

If Leslie goes pro this year, he will not get drafted. His game can be summed up in three words – He Can Jump. That’s it. His intermediate jump shot is awful and he is pitiful from behind the arc. He has a lot of work to do to be an NBA quality player. I think Thompkins will get drafted, but only because he has the size and body frame that NBA teams covet. He still needs a lot of work to be effective at the next level. And for those who are dumping on Coach Fox, you obviously are fair weather fans who didn’t watch any of Felton’s teams. This team is light years better coached than Felton’s teams, offensively and defensively. I think teams have learned our achilles heel – outside shooting. Last night’s game was a perfect example. Vandy played zone to take away our inside game and in the first 30 mins, we hit our 3s and had a big lead. Then we stopped making our outside shots and we stopped scoring. Coach Fox can’t make 3s for them.

Leslie said that they got complacent, How can you get complacent when you haven’t won anything and you’ve been playing like crap for the last 7 games. Fox has to get his type of players into the program because at Neveda, those guys didn’t have any quit in them.. The two that want to go to the NBA, should not even consider that an options. Both are overrated and Leslie hasn’t shown me anything all year long. What happened to the guard play int the second half? Under no circumstances should one man beat your team. These guys have not pride and they have totally given up. Rebounding and shooting in the second half was none existant. These guys need to get it together fast. I understand that we don’t have an consistant outside threat, but right now this team will not make the NCAA Tournament. Great outside shooter coming in next year. Can’t wait till KC gets here. If you are a good outside shooter, come to UGA. Coach Fox needs at least 3 in the offense that he runs. Oh yea, also need a very talented PG, PF and Center that wants to reboud and block shots. Lots of playing time early on because right now, UGA does not have players of that caliber.

I think the basketball team is out of shape just like the football team . S&C has to apply to all the sports at Georgia. I graduated from UGA in 1976 and I know how great it is to live and just be in Athens. These world class athletes get so wrapped up into being apart of the dating scene , studies and just having a good time they forget what kind of effort it takes to stay in shape so they can last an entire game and they lose focus.
It has taken a few years but ever since we got rid of the athletic dorm , curfews and the coaches keeping an eye on the players 24 hours a day the disciplines has deteriorated at Georgia to what we see today.
McGarity needs to address this problem and make these players realize that in exchange for their best effort they are given a free education and we expect more from them.
In 1973 I was a walk on for the baseball team and made the team under Whatley but quickly realized the effort it would take to stay in playing shape , have a social life and study. There wasn’t enough time in the day for all three . I gave up my uniform so I could keep the social scene and keep my grades at a respectable level.I wasn’t going to be able to play at the next level anyway because I was too short but the players today are so good it is ashame that they are throwing such a great opportunity away.

The second half fade as of late for the basketball team is indicative of poor conditioning. I think CMF is a great coach but the starting 5 can’t play 30 minutes not to mention 40. I want to see movement without the ball. It just isn’t there. It’s no wonder Jenkins got open so often last night. He runs like a deer to get open.
I agree with Lagdawg. Thompkins and Leslie need to stick it out another year at UGA and let CMF grow them into what they are capable of being in the NBA.

The basketball team’s disgraceful performance last night meets or exceeds the lowest lows of the football team’s historical low point of the past forty years.
Fox needs to get his team in shape and coached up to play two complete halves of SEC basketball; otherwise, the UGA doesn’t need to field a basketball team.

The thing some of these fair weather pansies don’t understand is “family” and “loyalty.” Mark Richt could’ve ditched UGA for any number of coaching jobs. FSU and Papa Bowden came calling and Coach Richt said no thanks, same story with Miami. Coach Richt moved his family here instead. Coach Richt has shown so much loyalty to Georgia that people stopped asking him to leave. Now, we have the pansies within our ranks showing no loyalty to the man that gave you reason to believe in the first place. If you want cut throat tactics, the Bammers and Barners are just across the border. Now the pansies will say, but Bama this and Saban that. What championship did Bama win last season? And why did so many of this states best players turn down the Bammers and sign with CMR instead?
I’m starting to realize that you can argue with idiots untill you’re blue in the face, but at the end they’re still stubborn idiots. It’s why Jesus said not to cast pearls before swine.

Question to all the Richt haters- What makes you so sure we’re going to drop games to Boise and SC right out of the gate? Or even UF for that matter?
Richt has made some good moves this off season and we will get a boost in the right spots with some of the incomming class as well as some who were redshirted last year.
I don’t think people realize the Dawgs aren’t that far off from being able to be a good team this year.
Fact: We had a FRESHMAN QB last year who came very close to Stafford’s production his freshman year
Fact: Granthum was running his 3-4 defense with 4-3 personnel who were all learning new terminology and in some cases positions.
Fact: Of the 7 losses – 4 were by a TD or less not to mention we went the first four games without our best player.
We will be fine and should have a great season this year. I just hope all of the Richt haters will be man/woman enough to admit they’re wrong when he turns this thing around, though I doubt they will. Most will likely adopt a new blog handle and act as if they’ve been in his corner all along.

Ole Miss and Auburn for starters, but why quibble. Richt is 1-5 against Florida when Tebow wasn’t playing. Combined, Ole Miss and Miss. St. have a winning record against UF since 2000.
LSU, Alabama, and Auburn play Florida even, and that includes the Tebow years.
Florida was 0-3 against Georgia when Emmit Smith was there starting tailback. There’s no excuse for Richt’s 2-8 record against Florida. Even when Florida was down and Richt’s teams won their two SEC Championships, we lost to Florida. Is that acceptable to you?

Great! Richt supposedly had his best recruiting class, although he sure as heck did little with any of his other classes. And he supposedly now has a good coaching staff, although when he had other earlier good caching staffs he did the minimal with them. And the schedule without Bama and LSU supposedly lines up Well for Richt, although since Richt cowers when he faces Florida, Richt as well as us, knows he ain’t gonna beat Florida(if your three year old daughter was coaching Florida)
Bottom line, shut your mouth and get the heck out of dodge Richt, if you stink it up again this year. And, personally with your ten year track record Richt, you ‘ve done nothing to convince me you have it in you to stay around after next year.

The 11 years prior tp CMR against UF with Dooley, Goff, & Donnan the Dawgs were 1 & 10 against the Gators. 2&8 is not much better but it is better.
I am a lifelong Gator Hater but I know superior coaching is not rhe reason for the 2&8 record.
There is a mental block involved just like there was for the Gators before Spurrier became the coach. I was there during the Dooley years & know that the mental block for the Gators was real.
Now, Until that changes again for the Dawgs, it will remain very difficult for the Dawgs to win in Jax. That is fact.

“The 11 years prior tp CMR against UF with Dooley, Goff, & Donnan the Dawgs were 1 & 10 against the Gators. 2&8 is not much better but it is better.”
But those 11 years cover the best decade Florida has ever had, the 90s. In the past ten years, Florida has had 3-five loss teams (’02, ‘03 and ‘04) and 2-four loss teams (’07 and ‘10). They’ve hardly been dominant year in and year out. Take away two of the Tebow years, and Florida hasn’t been much to brag about this century.
There’s no excuse for going 2-8. If that’s improvement, we don’t need it. We need a coach who will play Florida at least even. Like LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Miss St. does. Is that asking too much? If so, maybe we need to move to the ACC.

Richt’s career has been 2 good years, followed by long periods of atrophy.
2002 13-1
2003 11-3
2004 10-2
2005 10-3
2006 9-4
So during this period, Richt’s teams got worse 4 years in a row before he finally reversed the trend.
2007 11 wins
2008 10 wins
2009 8 wins
2010 6 wins
During the 2nd period of atrophy, Richt has only gone 3 seasons in a row of atrophy. Following his pattern, expect 1 more down year before Richt reverses the trend.
2011 likely a 4 or 5 win season looking at both Richt’s 2002-2006 slide and also his more recent 2007-2010 slide.

Coach Fox next year loses Thompkins, Leslie, Price, and Barnes with just one DIV-1 player coming in. Will be a rough W/L record next year. Following year however stste is loaded with 4-5 star BB player and CMF is in on all of them. He needs two more years to get the roster competitive with the top programs.
Good hire for linbacker coach. With a year of learning for players and Grantham the D will be much improved in 2011. If we can only block somebody a 11 or 12 win season is very possible. Also Coach Richt will be around longer than will most coaches currently in league.

You people make me sick. You claim to be “Dawgs” yet you never have anything good to say. Hell if we won a national title you’d be the first to claim Richt as the worlds greatest coach. We’re in the toughest conference in football, do you really expect every season to be perfect? Where the hell is your loyalty? If you have a bad week/year do you decide its time to switch from Christian to Muslim as though God isn’t on your side any more? No I doubt it. In 2007 you loved Richt, your pathetic and you give real Dawgs a bad name….Oh yeah and after we spank Boise and USC this year don’t try coming back and supporting Richt. I think Paul Johnson is more your type of coach, he loves a double standard.

Sorry I went of the deep end there with the religious thing but this crap is getting old. I know as well as anyone these haven’t been the best couple of years for UGA. However I do believe in loyalty and as long as Richt is our coach and proudly wears the red and black then I am behind him. I’ve seen what happens when you rush to fire a coach, look where Tennessee is right now. Given I believe Dooley can turn it around, but their last two seasons have been far worse than ours. Richt will have my support for as long as he is at UGA. I may not agree with all his decisions but I am not going to bash my teams coach like some back stabbing rat. If the day comes and UGA releases Richt then I wish him the best and I will pledge my loyalty to the next coach. Not because I do or don’t like Richt or the coach in question but because I AM A DAWG!!!!!!!!!!!

@FIREMARKRICHT Your perspective on Mark Richt is a joke and he is not going to be fired and he will be the coach at UGA for the next 15 years if he chooses. WHY? Because while there has been a decline in the program the last few years it is an understandable decline to ANYONE who is not ignorant or biased or cant take the good with the bad. How old are you? 18? The period of decline IS OVER and last year was just “one of them years”. It was not expected to be good with a freshman QB, suspensions AND a new defense to install with players not recruited for that system to begin with. 2009 was CERTAINLY expected to SUCK, We lost Stafford and Moreno early plus others to the NFL and we had COX at QB and inadequate replacements at running back too. Now the program hit bottom last year and that happens to ALL programs and now get aboard for the RISE and support the team and coach because YOU ARE WRONG about the direction of the program and the abilities of the head coach, who by the way is in the TOP TIER OF COACHES IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL and could have left UGA but did not. AND HE WILL ONLY GET BETTER BY GOING THROUGH ALL OF THIS. THIS IS HIS FIRST HEAD COACHING JOB! ALL COACHES HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AND THIS WAS HIS TURN SO GET OVER IT AND GET A CLUE AND SUPPORT RICHT AND THE TEAM with YOUR MORAL SUPPORT OR…… LET THE DAWG FAN IN YOU………DIE SIR.

There were a lot of things for the dawgs to celebrate this year. Let’s see…
1. A drunken, whoring athletic director with red panties in his lap.
2. Twelve players arrested. And 41% of UGA football players are arrested during their time at UGA.
3. A player suspended for violating NCAA rules.
4. Winning the Fulmer Cup for the most players arrested.
5. Winning the title of #1 party school (i.e., the most drunken student body in the USA).
6. A sleazy assistant coach who razzes opposing players, unethical coaching conduct in violation of NCAA rules.
7. A super sleazy head coach who thinks he’s a saint, but recruits thug wannabes, gangbangers, and illiterate morons.
8. A 6-7 record despite having a team full of 4- and 5-star recruits.
That’s really something to be proud of!

I am just curious. How long is the average tenure of most coaches in the SEC? Fulmer was the exception and in my humble opinion, I believe it was a mistake to get rid of him, as the last two years have shown.
CMR is a great coach, but more importantly, he is a great man. If you look at all of the accusations concerning a lot of the coaches around here in the SEC, a lot of universities wish he were their coach. You all seem to equate NC’s and nothing but winning as being the earmark of a great coach. How about how much pride you should feel, that you have such an honest, decent and caring man in charge. How many coaches would continually, give some folks like Ealey, chances to correct their ways and grow up into men that society is proud to know. I don’t recall any major violations that resulted in a major UGA probation in his tenure here. I could be wrong, but I am old, so I could be forgetful. He self reported a minor violation that a recruit actually caused concerning a call the recruit made to him, during a no contact period. Surely he is not the only coach that this has happened to, but I don’t see where any other coach has done that.
The only thing that CMR might be guilty of, is becoming either a little complacent or maybe too administratively bogged down, and let his coaching slip some, but he will fix that problem this year, thanks to the AD we now have. Did anybody think about our former AD, and the fact that he really did not support CMR, or equip him with the help he needed. CMR is reenergized and I believe the next couple of years UGA is going to be a force to be considered, no matter whom they play. I applaud his “Dream Team”, concept, as he is trying hard to keep our top atheletes in the state and going to UGA. Simply because he can not offer scholarships at a rate of 40 each year, doesn’t mean he is doing a poor job in recruiting. He is successful in that area and a great deal more.
If you are a true supporter of UGA football, start showing it and give the man and our team his your full support.

This will be a great hire. Its a vote of confidence that Richt has in Grantham, letting him hire guys he actually wants to work with. Now I wanna see TG yelling at his boys like he did that first game. After that it looks like Richt told him to calm down. We dont need him calm, we need him yelling and breaking things, maybe punch a player or two right in the face. Ok, not that far but I liked seeing him yell at his boys and hold them accountable. I could see CMR telling him “we dont yell at our kids here Todd.” F-that! Yell scream, get some intensity!!!

This Redskin coach looks like a solid citizen. Richt isn’t stupid. In order to continue to bilk the State of Georgia out of $3 Million per year, he will surround himself with competent assistants now that his is on probation. The sad part, though, is that Richt is still the fake imposter he has always been and will continue to be. He’s nothing more than a con artist. UGA will win in spite of him, I hope, but the Bulldog Nation should not count on any championships as long as he is the head coach.

No confidence – Coach really wanted out of D.C..
Is it a good hire? Probably – Its about time the CEO tried to hire a few real coaches instead of promoting friends and family!
Will this hire make much of a difference. Not a chance in the world!

the haters ask what proof do we have that Richt will turn it around.
Let’s turn it the other way.
What proof do you have that he won’t.
You point to 6-7.
I point to 96 wins in 10 years and 2 SEC titles when we had not won one in 20 years.
You point to 6-7
I point to 13-1
11-3

You guys should have a great year. The SEC Least is down and Meyer is gone gone gone. USC East is overrated and will lose a few games. You guys have a nice schedule and one that is very favorable.
Good luck!

Snoop Dog—-Not sure you know how college coaches are paid. Coach Richt bilking the state of Georgia????? The State pays nothing, Football fans that contribute money and buy football tickets pay coaching salaries and all other expenses of athletic program. So try to write something you have some knowledge about next time, not some stupid comment like before. Or maybe there is very little that you have any knowledge of.

We’ll beat Boise, beat South Carolina, lose to Coastal Carolina, and lose to the rest of these teams accoriding to the Florida, Alabama, Auburn, and S. Carolina fans who are positive that they know everything. We’ll lose every game on our schedule. Bank on it. 0-12 for us this season.

If CMR can’t cut the mustard this year, then I am all for a new HC. Kirby Smart or even Derek Dooley(he is turning UT around and like Vince will be a great coach) would be imo a great coach for us. But hey, lets give CMR a chance to turn things around this year. Lets get behind him and the dawgs. We may be pleasantly surprised.

I’m going to see Coach Richt today in Blairsville. Looking forward to it.
As for the team this year, I want to see them play with passion and confidence. Those were two things that were lacking BIG TIME last year. If this team played with 1/3 of the passion that the exhibited in the Florida win in 2007, NO WAY would they have finished 6-7. But these kids have to realize that victories just aren’t going to be handed to them, they have to put in the WORK! Its time for the team to get that swagger back and play like their hair is on fire. I miss the days where we used to beat top 10/top 20 teams at home. These kids now think their hot stuff but trust me, nothing makes you more of a rock star on Saturday night than beating a top ranked SEC team in Athens! That is a memory that will live with you always! Talent is important but the attitude is paramount! Lets turn things around THIS year Dawgs or things WILL get turned around next year!

Auburn Man, are you proud of all the sanctions that Auburn is going through with the NCAA and cheating their way to getting recruits and winning titles? Funny, I didn’t see you over on the article about how Auburn is going through another sanction (NOT having to do with Newton).

2004, maybe you can directly tell him what you say about him in here all the time. Great opportunity to contrast your ultra high standard of excellence, face to face.
While you are at it, why not tell him….(because you seem to avoid answering in here)
1. Which 6 games you predicted he will lose this 2011 season and why.
2. By what standard you say he runs a 8-4 program “at best”, and back that up with some actual facts from history, or future I suppose.
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll let him have it.

When you say ultra high standards, do you mean having a winning season? If so, then yes I have ultra high standards.
I did get to meet Coach Richt today. Did I lamblast him for last season? No because it would have been inappropriate in front of hundreds of people. If that makes me a coward in your eyes then so be it.
On a personal level I like Coach Richt. I think he’s a good man who has represented our university well. I don’t particularly agree with some of his religious views, but that’s OK. I have been very critical of Coach Richt on here and not without warrant. If afforded the luxury of having a private audience with him, I would say to him that you can still hold true to your religious convictions and without having to compromise being successful. And that is my biggest critique of Coach Richt: I feel he shy’s away from wanting to be successful because he feels that it would compromise some of his ULTRA HIGH beliefs. That just doesn’t have to be the case. Tim Tebow is a good example of someone who believes in heaven yet is willing to take his own destiny into his hands. THAT is what I want to see from Coach Richt: take control of your destiny and be the best you can be. And I’m sorry but that just hasn’t been the case with UGA the last few years.

NO, being polite to Richt in public is the appropriate behavior.
The cowardice part is what you say in here about him, then refuse to back it up when questioned directly about it. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about in the religious convictions holding him back category, nor do you.

Although in all fairness I should ask:
1. Specifically which of his “religious views” do you disagree with and why? I assume these are view that you equate to him from some information or knowledge, and not just pure specualtion.
2. What evidence do you have that the struggles of the football team have anything whatsover to do with his religious views?
