It's being reported Washaun Ealey has been suspended indefinitely. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)
Looks like the Washaun Ealey era at UGA, such as it was, may be coming to an end, and not because of the signing of Isaiah Crowell.
Rumors had been swirling the past 24 hours about Ealey’s status, and I’d just gotten off the phone with my son, who had heard third- or fourth-hand that Dogs football players were saying Ealey was going to be suspended, when I saw an online report by ESPN’s Mark Schlabach citing sources saying Ealey has indeed been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.
If that’s true and Ealey doesn’t return, it means UGA is looking awfully thin at tailback this coming season — especially so if Caleb King doesn’t get his academic house in order.
When I read Steve Hummer’s Sunday piece about the recruiting of Crowell, the bit about Mark Richt having the team line up minus a tailback and asking the recruit if he could see himself starting against Boise State in that position made me wonder what that said about Richt’s view of Ealey and King. Practically promising a recruit he can start as a true freshman is not standard operating procedure.
This concerns me because even if Crowell is every bit as good as everyone thinks he is, it just doesn’t seem like a good situation for the team for anyone to get the starting spot handed to you without having to beat out any competition. As Thomas Brown says, competition is key to a player’s development. Plus, tailback is definitely a position where you need some depth.
So much for our visions of an offseason free of turmoil in Athens!
Meanwhile, the hiring of Will Friend from UAB as offensive line coach surprised some fans who wondered why Georgia couldn’t do better than a no-name coach from a Conference USA program.
I think the fact that the best Georgia could offer was a one-year deal at a program that is facing a possibly make-or-break season probably had a lot to do with it.
On paper, Friend looks fine. He played a part in UAB putting up an impressive offensive output last season and his line ranked 15th in the country in fewest sacks allowed. Overall they were 30th in the nation in total offense (423 yards per game), 24th in passing offense (267 yards per game) and 59th in rushing offense (156 yards per game).
The fact that their rushing numbers were less impressive touches on my one feeling of concern about Friend. He’s basically spent most of his coaching career been mentored by former UGA offensive line coach Neil Callaway, who drew knocks in his time at UGA for the inconsistent offensive line play, especially in the running game. At times under Callaway, Georgia’s linemen seemed not to know what run-blocking was all about.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Friend will be a clone of Callaway, and it’s only fair to give him the benefit of the doubt until we see what he can do with Georgia’s underperforming offensive linemen.
I’m hoping he can whip them into shape (with the help of Joe Tereshinski’s new conditioning program). They’re going to be needed even more if Georgia winds up as thin at tailback as it’s looking.

I’m with Andy. I was hoping the level of competition would make everyone better. Additionally, Bobo needs to be creative with talent. For instance, Carlton Thomas is explosive, yet we use him like a traditional TB. Why not create a handful of plays for his ability. Having a hammer & finesse guy can really keep a defense guessing.

Serious question to any and all Dawg fans. Does it not concern you that Ealey and King have both had nothing but issues wether it be following team rules, academics, or trouble with the law since basically arriving at UGA? I know some kids just do not want to listen and no matter what they do thier own thing and blow thier chance, but both of these kids came to UGA as possible difference makers and probably pampered most of thier school years due to thier performance on the field, and I just wonder if this reminds you fans of anybody else? I am not saying this will happen to any other recruit and I hope the coaching staff is really laying down the law with these kids and UGA can just focus on football as I only wish for UGAs dimiss on the football field one day out of the year.

Wow, did someone get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or what? King and Ealey have had more than enough chances to prove that they can be the man for UGA. But due to grades, attitude, fumbles, hit and runs, etc., they have not taken hold of the position. Richt, as well as these freshmen, know there are a lot of positions up for grabs. I don’t see anything wrong with what he did. Crowell will NOT play if he is not ready. As for Friend, no use judging him before he starts. We got a big name game in Searles last time and he coached our kids down. We wanted someone that was hungry, that knew UGA, and would hopefully be here for the long haul. Go Dawgs!

Richt think the players actually fall for his “everybody will compete for a chance to start” mantra.
That’s not what Richt has done in the past. He started Cox, and let Cox keep starting, regardless of how many interceptions Cox threw. Gray should have got a shot there.
He started Murray, and let Murray conitnue starting, even after the worst in career 1-4 start with Murray at the helm. Mason shou7ld have been the starter after game 3.
Ealey is the hardest worker on the team, going after your leader seems a weird way to start th season.

Bill, I’m a little surprised how negative your column is.
Ealey has been given chance after chance. I don’t want us to be thin at tailback, but it’s February and he’ll have time to work his way back – if he doesn’t leave the program. A message needs to be sent NOW that things are changing in Athens and no more half a–ing it or knuckleheads. People complain when they don’t feel Richt is doing enough and now people complain if he’s being tough? Can’t have it both ways. I stand on the side of our Coaching staff.
From what Buck Belue tweeted, this is all about Ealey failing to perform Joe T’s new S&C program. If that’s the case, then things are how they should be. We’re supposed to make our team a helluva lot tougher in the 4th Quarter and that conditioning needs to happen now. If Ealey can’t hang, then he doesn’t belong in the SEC. Ga Southern will be just fine for him.
I am one Georgia fan who wants to see everyone tougher – you don’t win without physical and mental toughness. Mark Richt and the staff need to be lauded and commended for this.
As for Friend, you maybe right about a 1 year deal, but hey, I have no problem with this – we need to put pressure on Richt and the entire program right now to step it up. If it means giving our new OL coach a 1 year deal, well then that’s another part of the team that will have to work hard and over achieve. Coaches in Athens should feel pressure and heat, it’s the only way they’ll improve.

I hope he can get it together. He needs UGA, the team is better off with him, but only a dedicated him. It’ll work out one way or the other.
But from a fan standpoint, from a program standpoint……I don’t cringe half as much when some player gets into trouble internally as I do for some stupid external issue. THIS kind of trouble seems to be a fallout of something going on to try to improve the S&C situation. If a player decides he doesn’t want to pay the price and do the punishment run, then he should leave the program. I am sure Richt can find ten other guys who can fumble the ball on the one yard line!!!!

How many chances do King and Ealey need? Kids need to make mistakes growing up to mature but you have to learn from each mistake and make adjustments accordingly. They are failing to do this. I am glad Richt is drawing a line in the sand. There is a disconnect with reality shared with each of these young men. Very sad. If they do not make drastic changes they will have a very tough wake up call when reality sets in for these two.

Greg McGarity shares in the blame here. By choosing to not extend Richt’s contract, it puts Richt in a tough spot, Richt has to think short term tactically instead of strategically. He has to do what’s best THIS SEASON only. And since McGarity’s harped on arrests/displine issues, Richt has to fix that NOW, regardless of how many losses it leads to in the Fall. Richt has to make a lot of decisions from a 1 year time frame. McGarity has put Richt in a horrible situation.

Something smells fishy. Isn’t this the same trick Richt used to end the Mettenberger/Murray battle, now this, to end the Ealey/Crowell battle.
Seriously Jerry?!
1. Richt wasn’t the one who went out got a fake ID, drove down to Valdosta, got hammered and started groping women to the point that one of them wanted to press charges, and got himself arrested, I believe that was Z.Mettenberger.
2. Richt wasn’t the one who did whatever to deserve a “punishment run” and then decided to just blow it off thinking he is the BMOC. Richt also didn’t look himself and the other coaches in the face and flat out LIE to them about not driving while on a suspended DL.

Obviously he’s not considering he didn’t show for a punishment run. Entitlement? Ha! That’s a good one. What should Richt have done with Mettenberger smart guy? Let him stay on the team after a sexual assault charge? What does that say to the rest of the team? And you do realize that with 1 more game Murray possibly could have beaten every record Matt Stafford owned right? And who are you to say Friend is not SEC caliber? How can anyone claim this is favoritism. Aaron Murray doesn’t do this kind of thing, so Mark Richt would never have to make that choice. He kicked Mettenberger off for breaking the rules, not because he liked Murray more. If Murray broke the rules and nothing happened, you would have a case. And Bill King, please quit whining. Nothing Richt does is right to you. First he doesn’t do enough for punishment, now you’re complaining the running backs will be thin if he does.

I was speaking of disciplinary actions in terms of favoritism. Therefore the turnovers/fumbles is irrelevant to my comment. However, since you brought it up, no that is not favoritism either. Murray was a freshman quarterback and we had no effective backup quarterback to bench him for. Ealey is a second year running back with a number of guys we can plug in for him. Also, a fumble for a running back has greater weight than an interception for a quarterback. Typically, good quarterbacks throw up to 10 interceptions in a season. A running back will never fumble ten times, because he will lose his starting job well before that mark.

With the joke of a O-Line coach hire, look for Ealey to hit the road and go play for a real offensive line and a coach who appreciates his on the field performance and rewards him for that objectively.
No other coach on earth benches Ealey for 1 fumble, and elts Murray have a free pass for 4 turnovers in 1 game.

Murray spend’s every spare moment studying film and how to be a better leader for the team. If he has any shortcomings it would be his height but a lot of short QB’s have learned to excel in the pro’s so the jury is still out with Murray. You can’t compare Murray with Ealey. Murray touches the ball on every play where Ealey only touches it maybe 25 play’s a game, if that.. Every since Ealey got to Georgia he has had an attitude , a since of entitlement. He doesn’t understand that he only has a few more years to impress the pro’s if he want’s a shot at the next level. Instead of bowing up and getting an attitude, Ealey should be working his butt off staying in physical shape and making sure he carries the ball so he want fumble. SHOW THE PRO’S THAT HE IS MATURE ENOUGH TO PLAY AT THE NEXT LEVEL AND STOP ACTING LIKE A PUNK KID. Time to grow up Ealey.

Bill King, Caleb King, and Washuan Ealey have the same mind set. If they think the two roster is set in Athens then re-think it. Crowell would love to take it by attrition. But he can easily start because of his talent and desire. Tell me how productive Ealey was? When you count up those yards plug in the number of goal line fumbles. When you count his and King’s rushing yards factor in the games or quarters they did not play. So now tell me how good was the two deep roster last year. Crowell is smart. He knows he will line up in a back field with a very talented QB, a QB that will spread the field and open up lanes for runs to…how do RB’s say it…hash marks, numbers, sideline, endzone. If you think Friend is not a top-notch O-line coach, then you are not much smarter than RBs who can not step-up to a D1 level. As I recall when Callaway and Friend were in Athens, the Dawgs won a few titles and games. Plus I’d put those numbers up against the past two years in a heart beat.
Look, it is not that hard. There are RBs out there every year. The question is, “can you bring it?” I’d say Ealey and King, still think they are in junior high rather in D1, SEC football…names like Walker, Brown, Hampton, Hearst, and the runners go on. Do you see a difference in those TBs and the current two? Let’s see how the Dawgs run their first sets next year in the Dome. Friend has the right pedigree…start when he was a Parade AA … that says he understands what an O lineman is and what the work ethic should be…that will be his bar.

Ealey had to run lapses because of some team rule that he broke , just like anyone else that break’s the rules on the team would have to. It’s no big deal. But, it is if you don’t think that you have to pay for your attitudes and actions that help divide a team instead of bringing it together.

Apparently some of you didn’t see the same things I did about Ealey last year. He would look like a back that should already be in the pro’s , running as hard as you could , very impressive. Then eventually the other team would hit him real hard and I would say , well that it for Ealey. After he got hit real hard a cheerleader could have brought him down. All the other defense had to do is tough him and he went down. A great back has got to be able to break 2 or 3 tackles not go down with arm tackles. Then throw in him not tucking the ball so he want fumble and he becomes ineffective and inconsistent.

See today’s public schools in Dekalb and City of Atlanta and I rest my case. In the 60s, they were top notch and ranked nationally. Today? These teachers are cheating and playing with the scores. They lack toughness. They are losers.
Football is all about physicality and mental and physical toughness. Yes, nutrition and flexability is a big part of it today.
Discipline however, is the KEY difference in a winning program and a loser. It starts with personal comportment or doing the right thing when no one is looking. Ealey? Please.

As for the situation in general, we were saying the same thing about Aaron Murray when Mettenberger was kicked off the team last year, and he turned out pretty well.
Besides, We’ve got Ken Malcome and, in a worst-case scenario, Carlton Thomas to help carry the rock. As for Caleb King, I’d use him for pass-blocking … and that’s about it.

We’ve all been crying for CMR to get control of his program, restore discipline, and instill a sense of accountability among his players. None of us knows what Ealey’s attitude has been since the Crowell signing. But now, Ealey will have to make the case as to why he should be allowed to fight for his position on the team. If he can’t see his way clear to do that, then CMR really has no choice but to send him home. I’ve got no problem with youthful foolishness. But Ealey’s in the big time now, so if he wants to be foolish, he’ll need to pay the price. As for Crowell’s road being too easy, if he’s good enough to be entitled, then so be it. Let’s just be sure he proves it on the field and not only in our press releases.

Bill, gotta take issue with the tenor of this piece.
It’s been evident for some time that Ealey and King are on Richt’s poo-list. We have no idea how deep it goes, but we’ve all seen enough in the papers, blogs, and on the field to know that it’s justified. You carried on about Ealey and King, but failed to mention Malcome or Thomas (who, granted, has been misused in the offense). If you want to hand-wring about being thin at TB, at least list the entire roster and then make your points.
No one has said that Crowell won’t have to compete for a job (well, besides you). I didn’t take the “O-formation minus TB” story that way at all. Every person who pays attention to UGA football knows that the running game is in serious trouble, at least partially due to the attitude, activities, and performance of the two “top” running backs. The other part is due to the dismal performance of the offensive line — which brings us to the last of your Chicken Little points:
Friend is an unknown at this point, but he has history with UGA and with Richt. You want a name brand? Gene Chizik’s OC came from high school, for goodness’ sake. Let’s wait and see what Friend brings to the table before we put The Martinez on him.
There are a lot of subtle changes taking place at UGA. The cries for exactly these sorts of changes have been loud and long from the UGA faithful. Don’t tear down the staff’s decisions before we even know what we’ve got. If history is any indication (and it always is), there’ll be plenty of time and reason for the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth in the future; no need to try to get ahead of the power curve, there’ll be plenty for everyone to complain about.

Bill –
I think you missed the point of the empty backfield. It simply was a tool (a very good tool) to allow Crowell to see that he would have the OPPORTUNITY to earn the top spot. This is exactly what you, I, and every other UGa fan have been saying: allow the players to compete and let the best one play. I do not think this was a guarantee of any sort.

The Dawgs two starting tailbacks constantly have off field issues and they fumble the ball at critical times thus costing the Dawgs games. The arrests, suspensions and poor production on the field reflect on Bryan McClendon their position coach. Coach McClendon needs to step up and get a handle on his players. He only has six or seven players to coach at the running backs position. I am aftraid CBM is just too young for the job and he does not have the respect of his players.

I’m sick of this garbage. Boot King and Ealy off the team. First and foremost is the education these guys are getting. Caleb King has not shown up for class, meetings, tutors, etc. He needs to be gone because he hasn’t been worth a damn in four years academically, athletically, or in a leadership way. It is not right to use boosters hard earned money to go to some clown that doesn’t hold up to his obligation, and waste $40,000 a year in tuition cost, plus whatever else the athletic department gives him in clothes, books, room and board.. Not to mention his spot could go towards someone well more deserving.
I was big on Ealy coming out of high school, just thinking about what he could do for the team. Even though he had issues with his grades and fooling around with a teacher, I didn’t look at the big picture and dismissed the hard evidence sitting in my face. Well, I was burnt like everyone else, and he hasn’t done a f’ing thing with his career either. Wrecking with a suspended license lands any one of us in jail probably, but he gets suspended, but keeps on playing. Now, not living up to his discipline issues is over the line. When people start breaking the law and commitments, they have no regard for the law or coaching. Boot his sorry butt off the team and see if he can handle the real world alone, like he apparently wants it. He had it on easy street, was given a second chance when they welcomed him to Georgia, then he keeps messing up. I’d say his and King’s fourth and fifth chances should be enough to warrant their dismissal.
Don’t forget the fact we have Carlton Thomas and Ken Malcom still in the backfield. I would much rather see them back there than the fumble twins anyway. Thomas has speed and runs hard, just needs to break more tackles, and Malcom just needs the opportunity to show us what he’s got. Crowell won’t have it easy by any means, but if he’s touted like Lattimore and Dyer, he will start early on athleticism alone and transform into a great back. Just hope character issues never show up or become a problem, as they have with Ealy and King, and other Bulldogs as of late.

In fact, our coaches are probably serving their players right by not getting things swept under a rug like other coaches are obviously doing. They’re held accountable for their actions at UGA instead of getting special treatment at other schools.

A leopard does not change its spots.More of the same from Richt-questionable judgement on playing time distribution and making below average hires. It’s almost like Richt is scared to bring in a strong willed, experienced, successful assistant coach instead hiring friends, former players, or the young and unproven. In his 10 years in Athens he has made all of 2 excellent hires(Van Gorder and Belin) and both of those are now gone.Poor hiring decisions more than anything is why his days are numbered. The amazing thing is that he still does not even realize this. Its a miracle he has won as many games as he has.

Wow. How about all the posts today from UGAG fans
trashing King and Ealy.
Just a couple of years ago, these VERY SAME UGAG fans were heralding these two RBs as the arrival of the Messiah.
And now, UGAG fans are throwing King and Ealy under the bus,
with the…OBVIOUS…PR-machine orchestrated message of:
“They did it to themselves.”
Really? Will ALL of the other players arrested over the
past 3 years…be run out of the program too?
And yet, here we are with the VERY SAME UGAG fans
saying the VERY SAME thing about Crowell.
You see, what this clearly demonstrates for the all world to see,
is what a bunch of hypocrites UGAG fans are.
But, I digress. There’s nothing new here.
***************************************
Let’s just take a quick stroll down
memory lane to see what UGAG’s legacy is:
Here’s a time-honored and memorable quote from the esteemed
Dr. Leroy Ervine (Jan Kemp’s boss at UGA):
And I quote:
“Now, you talk about [how] these kids are not taught in high school. They aren’t. We try to teach them here, but there is no way to do it. I know for a fact that these kids would not be here if it were not for their utility to the institution. There is no real sound academic reason for their being here other than to be utilized to produce income. They are used as a kind of raw material in the production of some goods to be sold…and they get nothing in return….”
So, just to repeat for clarification, Ervine said:
“There is no real sound academic reason for their being here
other than to be utilized to produce income.”
(Almost sounds like he’s talking about Ealy & King, doesnt it?)
*****************************************
And, if THATS not bad enough, try this one, from
that bastion of integiry, former UGAG President Fred Davision,
who himslef was forced to resign in disgrace(before being fired):
Georgia president Fred Davison similarly tried to justify the university’s recruitment practices by saying, “We have to compete [with rival schools] on a level playing field.” Referring to Georgia athletes, Davison also said: “If they leave us being able to read, write, communicate better, we simply have not done them any damage.”
Davison, whose dismissal was called for Sunday in an editorial in the Athens Banner-Herald/The Daily News, testified that it was theoretically possible to offer scholarships to revenue-producing athletes—i.e., football and basketball players—even if they achieved a minimum 400 score on their SAT tests, while non-revenue-producing athletes had to score at least 650. Asked if the standards were lower for revenue-producing athletes because they made money for the school, Davison said, “If you want to ask me if they have utilitarian effect to the university, certainly they do.”
Lastly, who can forget this gem, from UGA Alum attorney, Hale Almand:
And I quote: “We may not make a university student out of him, but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbage man when he gets through with his athletic career.”
You see folks:
THIS…is what UGAG is REALLY all about.
THIS…is UGAG’s Legacy.
UGAG fans have ALWAYS known it, but wouldnt dare admit it.
Ealy and King only just now discovered it.

Being “thin” at TB is not as bad as having players with lousy attitudes and work ethics. I don’t know all the facts here, but if Ealey is demonstrating either of these negative qualities, he should get out of Dodge. Ealey needed a kick in the pants. If he wants to play TB at Georgia then he needs to grow up some more and get his head on straight. If he isn’t willing to fight tooth and nail for playing time, he doesn’t have the heart it takes to be a champion and we don’t need him anyway. If he wants to go down to Statesboro and play in the pee-wee league…with their watered-down version of CPJ’s triple option crap…so be it.

Delbert you should try teaching those other 36% and you’ll quickly learn why 50% of the country is on the dole. Attitudes toward education in some communities are totally ambivalent if not derisional (I think that’s a word). Most of that 36% will go on to get a GED and attend a year or so of Junior college or Technical college until their Pell money runs out. as for will friend… bill, they were ranked 59th in rushing last year, but ran the ball considerably better in 2009 (nearly 2800 yards). UAB runs a spread, and the drop in rushing production is due to their having lost joe webb (who accounted for over half of their rushing yards in 2009) and not having a mobile QB in 2010. i didn’t check to see how many OL’s they lost after the 2009 season, but it seems like you might want to check that out before you start wringing your hands about the hire. i’m hoping (as i know you are) that a change in perspective will help more than anything–it seems clear that the guys had stopped responding to searles.

I don’t think Crowell is going to be as good as we think he is guys. Something just tells me. Your RB is only as good as his O-line. I hope coach Friend can get these boys motivated to hit and teach them the proper technique, hands in between the pads technique. Crowell needs to be able to burst through holes. It would be cool to finally have a RB with dreads though lol. I don’t think we’ve ever had that at Georgia.

I think Crowell will be our starter though. Richt has learned his lesson about redshirting backs. I truly believe that Crowell will be the one toting the rock against Boise on national tv. There’s a lot of pressure on that kid but there’s also a lot of pressure on Boise because not only will they have to try and tackle the elusive guy but they have to deal with Murray’s almost flawless play-action fakes and his ability to hide the ball and take off. Murray is fast as hell and he can burn a defense himself. Look for Murray to turn into an All-SEC QB this season.

Spoiled kid got what he deserved by being thrown off the team. He is lucky. Most people would have gotten in a lot more trouble than what he got. Fake ID’S, underage drinking, sexual assault. Good riddance This is one incident where everyone should agree. No one wants someone like him to represent the flagship university of this state.

I know most of the comments here have been about CMR and his record handling discipline; but, I was trying to figure out what other UGA RB’s running style he reminds me of. He reminds me quite a bit of Garrison Hearst. Don’t know if he will pan out that way, but the kid has great speed and can break tackles much better than Ealey or King. Ealey never had that kind of speed. Ken Malcome looks like he has good running instincts, average speed and good power. I believe Ealey is done. Wouldn’t surprise me if he never sees the field again.

Hey folks, nobody guaranteed young Mr. Crowell the starting job next season….he asked him to imagine it, in effect, to ‘dream’…and it must have worked. If the dream happens to come through, like the whole ‘team’ thing, then great, if not, then it means we’ve got somebody that showed more in the pre-season practices than Mr. Crowell.
And I’m still calling for the Camilla kid with both the size and speed, even though he’s listed as a WR, to given a shot at RB. Anybody that is compared to Adrian Peterson along those lines, ought to be given a ‘look-see’.

I must say I disagree with this article. Richt only stated he could see Crowell toting that rock if he did everything he was supposed to do. That means he has to earn it. All DAWG fans have to hope that the best players will be on the field period. If its Crowell great, if its Malcome great. My concern would be O line run blocking and hoping year 2 brings better results from the 3-4

Red Dog,
Agree with you on almost everything you said except in the “Give Ealey a Chance”. It appears he has had plenty of chances and has for the most part, decided that he wants to play by his own rules, do his class work when he feels like it, and this is the problem. I am sure you would agree that it must take a lot to make CMR get really mad at you. He appears to me, to almost go to far, with some of these players but a new day is dawning in DAWG Nation. I think the ball is now in Ealey’s ahdns and how he handles his responsibilities will determine his fate. This young man needs to grow up in a hurry.

Washaun certainly has not followed up his issues from last summer with stellar behavior. He was assigned a time to get out and do a supervised disciplinary run and he chose not to show.
He did the same thing last summer when staff knew he had a suspended license and he chose to drive. That was when he had the hit and run in the parking deck.
Seems as though he has issues with work and authority 2 things that will keep him out of the NFL.
Word is now he is thinking of transferring to Ga Southern so Richt who has given him multiple chances is not turning on him – In fact he has turned on Richt.
Caleb is coming into his money year,, a great season might get him a high draft spot. He was academically eligible to play in the Liberty Bowl but had missed appointments with academic advisers that he was supposed to keep.
Crowell is not “”winning”" the job of #1 through attrition ,,, There is another good running back in Ken Malcome who was red shirted.. He may have a say in who is # 1 .. WE and CK also should not roll over and give up their spots.

He missed study hall and the punishment sprint. He didn’t drive without a license or wreck a car. It is serious. He needs to work on character for his own good. He needs to understand what it means to be part of a team for his own good. This does not really constitute “another tumultuous offseason.” I understand why it is getting attention. I am just not sure that the scale of the action warrants this much press.
I hope he gets it together. Sometimes a young man does not see the implications of his actions. I, for one, did stupid things that limited my potential when I was younger. One of the most emotionally painful things we experience is what could’ve been. I hope that someone can get that through to him. Anyway, there sure are a lot of folks throwing stones.
All I know about the guy is that he runs hard and looks like he wants to win on the field and that he has made some mistakes. Some of the banter on these threads has just plain gotten out of hand over this. (And that is coming from someone who has been inappropriate and thrown some words around).

Richt redshirted Moreno and look how good he became. If one goal of redshirting is maturity, then Ealey and King should have been reshirted their entire UGA careers. Then prehaps the two young men might have developed a little character in exchange for their scholarships. Of course the NFL would not been interested. This is funny.

Yeah, I heard what the entitled A.J. Green said, and it goes to exactly what has been wrong at Georgia. UGA did not get jack crap out of Green, while Green got everything out of UGA. Richt bent over backwards to get Green to the NFL, while The University of Georgia, and all who love it suffered. He is the exactly the kind of player that UGA can do without. If Crowell turns out to be this way, then too bad for Richt.
I know for a fact that several large UGA donors have demanded that discipline be restored at UGA, immediately. Don’t think for a minute that this was not one of THE mandates made to Richt for him to remain as head coach of this program. The loafing is over at UGA, and if you are not man enough to lay it all out for UGA football, then your time will be short in Athens from here on out. The momma’s boys are gonna be weeded out from the men, and if mandatory assignments are not met, then yes, you will be in the coach’s doghouse. It is obvious that Green had a terrible work ethic, or he would not have still been so skinny after three years in the program. Joe T. and Kasay mean what they say, and will do what they say to whip this team into shape, and if that means some of the players can’t or won’t handle it then bye, bye.
I would rather show up at the Dome on September 3rd with sixty five Bulldogs than eighty five pansies.

What a D.A. Gorilla, first of all, you don’t know what I am, you however come off as a blithering idiot. Yes Mr. McGarity will set forth the rules, and the rules have changed at UGA. What will be expected of all players at Georgia from here on out will be to abide by all of the coach’s mandates, including meals and workouts, and if if punishment is mandated, then it will be expected to be carried out by the affected players, and to be handled like a man. Richt is being given a chance to right the ship, but business as usual, will not be acceptable. if you think Richt was not given some mandates of his own then you are a blithering, dillusional idiot.

Only problem I see with suspending Ealey and barring him from the fascilities, is that he’ll be in even worse shape when he’s back, unless he has the discipline to work out at Ramsey on his own……you can’t replace Coach T and Kasay screaming at you over there. Didn’t A.J. Green start as a true freshman coming out of high school? People say that recruits usually don’t make an impact until after 2 or 3 years. A.J. Green anyone? Ben Jones anyone? Ben Jones is one of the best centers in the SEC and started as a freshman. His 2nd start of his UGA career was to go up againsts Terrence Cody from Bama. He did pretty well in that one. Some of these incoming freshmen will make an impact (Drew, Crowell, Kent Turene, Herrera, Mitchell and Rome).

yesterday Ealy was seen in the GSU registration office filling out transfer paperwork. Apparently he was also spotted at a local restaurant having dinner with 11 current GSU players. This was also address on teh Barnhart & Durham radio show from somone who called from the restaurant. So much for Richt’s publicity stunt.

I think Ealey leaving is good for the team. The last thing UGA needs is another DQ, and I’m not talking about Dairy Queen. Ealey = Drama Queen, especially a drama queen that fumbles in big games. I think Crowell, and Malcome will do just fine. Ealey and King were giving too many chances so if they punk out and leave then oh well. Ealey really disappoints me because his freshman year I thought he had NFL potential. He didn’t have the attitude or work ethic and we are finally seeing this. Thugs like this need to take a hike, they are not SEC material.
If Richt can pull out tapes of 2003 and do some backtracking, he would take a very close look at Tyson Browning. CMR needs to take Carlton Thomas and make him play a Tyson Browning type role.

I stated in a previous blog prior a week, prior to National Signing Day, that Ken Malcome would be the starting tailback for UGA in the fall of 2011′. I believe that Ken Malcome has the discipline, desire and dedication to be a star SEC tailback. His build and play reminds me of Eddie George of Ohio State fame. The kid will shock the uniformed football fan this fall. I even stated that in my aforementioned blog that if we didn’t sign Crowell, UGA would be in great hands with Malcome starting at tailback. The kid is hungry and humble. CMR want’s Ealy off the team and his approach to handling this matter is superb and classic. I applaud him on this one. I haven’t been too impressed with his previous attempts at discipline and leadership but I am encouraged with this approach. Having been a former U.S. Naval Officer and department head, I know a little about leadership. I hope Ealy, who’s lazy & undiscipline can take a few more like him with him to GSU or wherever he chooses to transfer. For Ealy transferring is easier than working hard. The kid gained 811 yards for the season behind inconsistent offensive line play. If he had been hungry, dedicated and disciplined maybe UGA would’ve had a 1,000 yard rusher and 3 more wins for the season. Either way, GO DAWGS!!!!

I am really liking the depth we will have at tailback with some of the premeire tailbacks that have come out of Georgia highschools in the past few years, with Malcome, Crowell, King, and Ealey. Factor in scat-back Carlton Thomas, and this group is looking real deep, so I dont agree with Bill here about how “thin” this group is, last I checked King and Ealey are still both on the team, healthy, and ready to go for 2011…I guess some fans forget that both averaged more than 5.2 yards/carry last year, and Ealey scored 11 tds…add that to the punishing ground attack of Malcolme, and the lighting flash of Isiah Crowell, and you have 5 capable runningbacks, and only 1 starting spot. I am more concerned about the offensive line depth, outside of Glenn, Sturdivant, and Ben Jones we are thin on the line. I am hoping that AJ Harmon can finally step up and develop into the All-American OL he was recruited to be, if that happens and some of these younger guys on the OL pan out we will be fine. I really like some of these freshman OL, especially Watts Dantzler.
