Welcome to the Bulldog Nation, Isaiah! (Associated Press)

Welcome to the Bulldog Nation, Isaiah! (Associated Press)

Will Isaiah Crowell start as a freshman and do for the Georgia Bulldogs what Marcus Lattimore did for South Carolina last year?

Or could he wind up as one of those highly touted recruits who never live up to their potential like Jasper Sanks, an earlier five-star running back UGA signed out of Columbus’ Carver High School?

There’s a third scenario, of course. Crowell could wind up as another in a long line of great running backs on mediocre teams. After all, as great as Crowell looks, he still has to run behind mostly the same underperforming offensive line that Washaun Ealey and Caleb King have played with the past couple of seasons. Who knows, maybe the new OL coach or the beefed up conditioning program will make a difference this year.

We have no way of knowing which way Crowell’s career at Georgia  will go, but for today it’s time for big smiles across the Bulldog Nation.

And not just because of the signing of Crowell, of course. He’s part of a recruiting class that Mark Richt says could be his best, with another couple of five-star signees in Ray Drew and Jay Rome and a lot of other exciting talent.

The Dream Team isn’t yet complete, though. Georgia still badly needs big John Jenkins to anchor its defensive line. We won’t find out about that until Saturday.

But let’s be like Scarlett and worry about that tomorrow.

Today, we celebrate!

The Dream will be a nightmare soon enough.

Richt sold them the house to save his job. Not enough.

My hope is the the staff uses Crowell to get more production out of Ealey. IF Crowell is as good as advertised, his playing time is going to take care of itself.

Richt did save his job & I am proud that he did. 2011 will not be his last year. “It’s Great To Be A Georgia Bulldog”. Also to hell with ESPN & their love affair with the Gators.

Welcome Isaiah Crowell and Kent Turene to the Bulldawg Nation.

That greasy snake in the grass Lame Kitten is sure thumbing his nose at the NCAA, now ain’t he?

Speaking of snakes, Darth Visor and Booby Puketrino must not have got the memo from the SEC about oversigning.

I hope your right.
Ealey has a great ypc average and a great touchdown per carry average but, just seems like at times either Bobo gives up on the run or the fumble thing.
Having that much talent around him should make him hungry though.
The Malcome kid that was shirted is the real deal. He’ll end up making Ealey and all the RB’s work harder for playing time., But i’d say first time Ealey puts the ball on the ground may be his last.

@Terry, Those stats paint a very good picture of how recruiting correlates to winning in the SEC. I agree that Mark Richt has had good recruiting since he’s been at UGA. I think a lot of posters are overlooking the fact that this class is so impressive because it addresses problems that we have in many areas. Past recruiting classes were good but they were largely focused in certain areas. This class covers every single area. With that being said, I think that UGA will surprise a lot of people this year. Also, I’m having a hard time believing that Boise State is as good as they were the last few years. If you go back and check their roster, you will see that they lost a lot of players this year. SC is not unbeatable. That game is always a toss-up. UGA had a down year last year and SC barely beat them even with Lattimore running roughshod over them. If you go back and look at those lost games with an open-mind, you will also notice that some of those games were lost because of one bad play. Without that one play, things could have been very different for UGA. I also think that UGA’s biggest problem was not stopping the run but it was the pass defense that helped to sank this team. Good passing opens up running lanes for the opposing offenses. How many times did we have an offense facing 3rd and long, only to make a long pass down field without one of our defenders anywhere within the lenses of the camera? I think that if we fix the secondary, you will find out that the run defense will fix itself.

I’ve been down on CMR all year and was ready to get rid of him. My gut tells me if he can coach em up like he recruits then we would not be wanting a new coach. Heck, he has had some damn good teams but maybe he lost focus the past two years. I think the AD may have straighten him out and hopefully we will see a different CMR next year. Come on dawgs–lets get behind him–an optimistic and encouraging fan base might do wonders. If this doesn’t work, lets get behind the move to hire Kirby Smart. But first of all lets give him a chance.

Anyone else catch Urban Meyer on espnu gushing about the Bulldogs? I did a whiplash style double take I was so stunned.

He praised CMR and the whole class and said not once but twice that running backs with the size and talent of Crowell did not come along very often. He also said because of his coaching etc… it was very possible Crowell could have an instant impact.

I know we need to keep our feet on the ground but it was still surreal to hear Urban praising UGA.

Bill, How about taking your UGA gear off on your picture. You’re no Georgia guy. You can’t write a post unless you put something negative about UGA. On a great day for the program you still have to find something negative instead of being posiive about the class coming in and may turn the program around. Look at AU 8-5 last year, 5-7 the year before. You never know when your going to get the right players in place and make a run.

Monty,

Did you watch THIS video on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWRcM_d2qWE
??? Are you kidding me? Just a “slicing runner”. And did you think Herschel was just another big, stiff back?? Did you not see the moves he made? Coming out from the middle of piles, stopping on a dime, unbelieavable accelleration, faking guys out of their jocks. NOBODY caught him from behind once he got to full speed, NOT ONCE. He was leaving dudes in his rear view mirror. Crowell is unbelievable as a high school runner. Yes, he had some nice holes to run through but there were plenty of examples where he didn’t. Yes, he still has to prove himself at the college level. But there is no question, he is the Real Deal. If you can’t see that then you either saw the wrong video or you just don’t know football.

All you haters need to realize that even though UGA is loaded with talent. They’re not the only SEC loaded w/ talent. FL& LSU have been loaded for some time, & AL & AU have hauled in loaded recruiting classes more so recently. Peoplw are craze when they say Richt can’t coach people up. Someobdy tell me how Stafford can go 1st in the NFL draft if he doesn’t know how to coach. Any team that is loaded w/ what’s deemed as top level recruiting talent…isn’t ever the only school to thaat’s true for. ONly one team can be #1 every yr., & just bc a team has good recruiting classes doesn’t meean they should win National Championships or they’re not a good coach. Richt’s predecessors also reruited top notch talent, & didn’t have near the results that Richt has had. He’ s come close to winning 2 national titles, & I know close doesn’t cut it, but that’s closer than UGA came for a long time before him. If we stick w/ him hten maybe will get one sometime. Who knows, but you can always get someobdy worse.

Mark Richt will be the football head coach at the University of Georgia for years to come — those who love to criticize him and his staff and players and sit on their hands in Sanford Stadium might as well get on board — or stay home and shut up. “The Georgia Way” under Coach Richt will prove to be as successful as any tenure in the country when we look back at it twenty years from now. You can hire any OC you want, and they are always going to favor running the ball on second and long. There is a reason that is predictable..because you see that every Saturday and Sunday. Add in an inexperienced QB who is the one who ultimately decides at the line if that’s the safe thing to do when he doesn’t read anything else, and of course that’s predictable. Same reason we just happen to run the “sprint draw” all the time with Stafford as a Frosh, and oddly it faded away later in his career.

And on that note, predictability is not why UGA was easy to defend, PLAY is why they were easy to defend. It’s not purely coincidental that good teams knew exactly what we were going to do and lesser teams had no idea, is it? Every defensive staff in the nation that has electricity knows what the other team is going to do. I watched a few other SEC team a few times this past season , and could pretty much tell you what they were going to do on down and distance. Some were just better at actually doing it successfully, but it wasn’t from from creativity or fooling anyone. You think Alabama is out there running halfback passes on secong and long?

We can hire a new OC, and there are plenty out there, but they aren’t going to “call” their way into being a better team than they were midweek.

We can certainly find somebody, or help the one we have, prepare the team better midweek. Or in March. That’s the problem. Fix that and even a DA like me could call the play.

You just proved my point about the methane gas. By the way, you might want to check your math. 19 out of 25 Georgia recruits signed for UGA. I realize that would really confuse you, since that is more digits than you have on your two hands, but that’s OK. Go back to your senior year of high school in Alabama, and you might recall, that is where they taught you how to add and subtract.

If Jenkins comes to UGA, he immediately becomes the starter at what can be a high-profile position (NT: Cody, Fairley, Suh).

I’m not sure what the other schools he is looking at are, but I’m not sure anyone can demonstrate a better situation for him. Of course without a stellar NT, our defense may only make modest improvement over last year.
