Dogs fans able to ‘Dream’ again

Welcome to the Bulldog Nation, Isaiah! (Associated Press)

Welcome to the Bulldog Nation, Isaiah! (Associated Press)

Will Isaiah Crowell start as a freshman and do for the Georgia Bulldogs what Marcus Lattimore did for South Carolina last year?

Or could he wind up as one of those highly touted recruits who never live up to their potential like Jasper Sanks, an earlier five-star running back UGA signed out of Columbus’ Carver High School?

There’s a third scenario, of course. Crowell could wind up as another in a long line of great running backs on mediocre teams. After all, as great as Crowell looks, he still has to run behind mostly the same underperforming offensive line that Washaun Ealey and Caleb King have played with the past couple of seasons. Who knows, maybe the new OL coach or the beefed up conditioning program will make a difference this year.

We have no way of knowing which way Crowell’s career at Georgia  will go, but for today it’s time for big smiles across the Bulldog Nation.

And not just because of the signing of Crowell, of course. He’s part of a recruiting class that Mark Richt says could be his best, with another couple of five-star signees in Ray Drew and Jay Rome and a lot of other exciting talent.

The Dream Team isn’t yet complete, though. Georgia still badly needs big John Jenkins to anchor its defensive line. We won’t find out about that until Saturday.

But let’s be like Scarlett and worry about that tomorrow.

Today, we celebrate!

Congratulations to the UGA coaches. They have done a great job with this recruiting class under challenging conditions. The coaches were able to sign a quality class despite the fact the press has decided CMR cant coach and that he wont be around much longer. Now if the coaches will coach as well as they recruited, we will be in the SEC championship game next year.

Crowell is a nice addition. But the biggest thing is all the defensive help were getting. We may of been 6-7, but if UGA had a better defense we would of had a much better reccord this year.

Here is your glorious arena, Realboy. You rule here. Like a clown rules a circus. And by the way, I never did buy a scratch off ticket, so I wouldn’t know. Just like you wouldn’t know what it takes to be head coach of anything, much less invoking the name of Kirby Smart… Step back from the mouse. Eschew the caffeine. Try to watch. See how it’s done.

Great day for the football program at UGA. I’m hoping for great things from these fine young men. And credit to CMR and his staff for (mostly) keeping the greedy hands of Bama and Auburn out of our state this year!

Now, come onnnnn Jenkins!!

With Jarvis Jones, Samuel, and hopefully Jenkins added to Dawg defese, Grantham will have defense looking like old Junkyard Dawg defenses of old.

Forgive me if I am not joining in on all of the kool-aid guzzling about the “DREAM TEAM” just yet….

…I am very leery of whether or not these coddled, pampered, darlings of the media who are in their late teens will be able to stay out of the Clarke County Jail….unless CMR has changed the disciplinary environment of his recruits.

Everyone of the kids that plays for UGA is good enough athletically. Wally is right though, it all comes down to discipline on and off the field.

Ok, lame. you win. B/c honestly I hope you are right. it’s a little like hoping obama will do the right thing for the country. you know it’s not possible but………well this is just dreaming anyway right…….so I’ll pretend the real clowns, CMR, CMB, Etc. can coach the team up. After all I would love to be wrong. But if you remember goff had the #1 class back in 89 or so. That really helped.

Ok, you signed some talent. thUGA’s problem has been doing something with it, other than getting them out of jail, after they arrive. Until you transform signatures into championships, you will always be known as the “place that does less with more” than any other program in the nation. GO GATORS!!!!!

I can’t figure the logic in these recruiting class rankings. Looking at ESPN’s rankings UGA, who is ranked 6, has more 5,4 and 3 star recruits than Alabma (20 vs. 23), who is ranked 3, and two less than Auburn (25), ranked just ahead of Bama at 2. FL St has the same number of 3,4,5 recruits as Auburn at 23. Florida has only 15, but is only two spots behind UGA. It pretty much looks like a marketing gimmick on the part of the major media (ESPN) and the cottage industry that has sprung up around recruiting. Can someone explain?

Jay Rome is a 4 star on both rivals and scout. Absolutely thrilled that we got him but I’m wondering why all the ajc staffers are calling him a 5 star recruit when nobody else does. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t care how many stars they have as long as they’re winners. Weren’t Green and Pollack 3 star players out of high school? You get my point. Go Dawgs! GATA!

icallbs, it’s all a beauty contest really. Florida made the top 7 or 8 on ESPN but not even top 10 on rivals or scout. The media loves certain schools more than others and that will always be so…….whatever. Let’s just kick ass on the playing field and stop getting out-coached. Richt had better start playing these freshmen when they’re better than the seniors or his ass is gone!

Coach Richt came up big, he can write his own salary in 2012 anywhere he wants to coach by pulling this off after a 6-7 season on a small 3 year contract McGarity manufactured “hotseat”. Coach Bobo recruited some big time guys too–top effort by Bobo there. Coach Grantham and his D coaches got the best defensive talent I’ve seen in a decade at UGA, that really fits the 3-4 defense.

Holy Cow, if John Jenkins isn’t salivating to sign with this team, you have to wonder.

Gator Guy, Florida, Alabama, and LSU have out recruited UGA almost every year, and UGA still has won 2 SEC Championships how is that doing less with more when the other school have had higher recruiting classes. Only Auburn has done more with less besides UGA.

The BCS Champions have always had top recruiting classes. Last year Auburn won with a lesser class of talent according to rivals.com’s rankings. Does having the best recruiting class every year Guarantee you’ll win the BCS Championship? No. What about the majority of the time? Yes. Can you look at the past BCS Champions, and say it doesn’t matter? Look at the past five years of every BCS Champion, the majority had better recruiting leading up to their Championship, Auburn being the lone one. The two years that UGA has had the highest recruiting ranking they won the SEC Championship.

Auburn 2010 – 2002 – #4, #19, #20, #7, #10, #13, #21, #11, #8
Alabama 2010 – 2002 – #5, #1, #1, #10, #11, #18, #15, #49, #30
Florida 2010 – 2002 – #2, #11, #3, #1, #2, #15, #7, #2, #20
LSU 2010 – 2002 – #6, #2, #11, #4, #7, #22, #2, #1, #15
UGA 2010 – 2002 – #15, #7, #7, #9, #4, #10, #6, #6, #3

By the way, speaking of hotseats, after the 6-7 debut as head AD at UGA of the football program, if McGarity goes anything less than 8-5 in 2011, he’;ll get canned. McGarity’s on the hotseat too, mentoring Richt to a 6-7 season ain’t gonna get it there.

This class is AWESOME, and we do have some guys that can make an imediate impact.

Ray Drew – will help soften the loss of Justin Houston

Isaiah Crowell – will hopefully give us that home run back that we can ride. I’m thinking he could be the 2nd coming of Garrison Hearst.

Damian Swann & Nick Marshall – These two could be absolutely HUGE. Early word is they think Swann could come in and compete for a starting corner job and obviously Nick Marshall could as well or at least provide depth. This could allow us to move Branden Smith to offense on a permanent basis and allow him to be used in a Percy Harvin type roll. Marshall could also be used in the wild-dog as Richt alluded to based on his QB experience.

John Jenkins – Is the one that could have the biggest impact though. Not only in his play but the domino effect he could have on defense. Jenkins is a space eater and a natural 3-4 NT. Having him there would allow D.Tyson and A.Jones to move to their natural 3-4 DE position (assuming of course Geathers comes back healthy) What this does is gives us a TRUE 3-4 front. Imagine having JJ in the middle flanked by Tyson and Jones with Drew on the edge to pass rush and Robinson, Samuel and J.Jones in the remaining LB slots. I’d put that front 7 against anyone’s. Then you will get to see how good Granthum is and why we switched to the 3-4.

Gotta feel pretty good about Jenkins as we didn’t offer or pursue anyone else late. Gotta think Jenkins has let all interested parties know his intent.

Exciting time to be a Dawg!!!

On a side note: Congratualations to ALL the young men who signed letters of intent today regardless of what school you signed with. Take advantage of the opportunity that has been given to you not only on the field, but more importantly in the classroom. Use football to make a better future for yourselves don’t let football use you!
