A trip to the Big House certainly would be memorable for Dogs fans. (University of Michigan)
Returning from vacation for the short holiday week, I’m greeted by lots of rumors about one or two Bulldogs players likely being academically ineligible for the bowl game (is that why Caleb King was working as the fourth-string tailback in Monday’s practice?) and talk of Greg McGarity possibly scheduling some big-name Midwestern teams down the road.
Since we don’t yet have any official word on the former, let’s talk about the latter.
In a story first reported by the Dawgs247 site, McGarity confirmed that preliminary discussions have taken place with Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State about the prospect of one or more of them scheduling a home-and-home series with Georgia in the future.
“We’d love to do a home-and-home with a Big Ten or Midwestern school that has a rich tradition,” McGarity said. “We’re going to work as hard as we can to make that happen. Hopefully, within the next year, we’ll be able to have something in writing.”

Greg McGarity is looking to add the occasional Midwestern powerhouse to the Dogs' schedule. (University of Georgia)
The report said that while the earliest Georgia could potentially add a two-year series of this caliber would be after an existing home-and-home series with Clemson ends in 2014, McGarity said such high-profile scheduling would likely occur “way down the road.”
This obviously is the kind of exception McGarity alluded to earlier in the season when he first announced he preferred a cupcake-heavy seven-home-game schedule model for the Dogs. As he told the Athens Banner-Herald early in November, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State are the types of nonconference home-and-home series he wants to sign. But, he added, “we’d do that periodically. It’s got to be at the right time and against the right opponent that has the same rich tradition of college football as the University of Georgia.”
As opposed to your Louisvilles, for instance.
None of the four possible opponents mentioned in the Dawgs247 report have ever played a game in Sanford Stadium, and Georgia has only ever played one of them, Michigan, during the regular season, visiting Ann Arbor in 1957 and in 1965, when Vince Dooley’s second team shocked the nation with a 15-7 upset of the mighty Wolverines and what seemed like half the town turned out to greet the returning Dogs at the Athens airport.
That’s a memory that still gives me goosebumps and is one reason I lean toward Michigan as the team I’d most like to see the Dogs add to their schedule. But trips to Columbus, Happy Valley or South Bend would be pretty cool, too.
So what do you think about scheduling home-and-home series that would see the Dogs playing teams like this in the regular season as opposed to bowl games? And which team would you most like to see on Georgia’s schedule?

Doesn’t this (and Boise St in 2011) fly in the face of McGarity’s comments about not having tough OOC games in the future?

HEY BILL!!!!!
Put me dow for ANY of these teams. Id order for sure.
My preference? Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and then Ohio State,
Ohio State may be the least likely as they have a home and home with tennessee in 2017-18 already.

Those who do not think we are “Big Boys” scheduling other “Big Boys”, do some research.
key words to google in your research: Student Body. Athletic Revenue. All Time Wins. Traditions. Stadium Size. Conference.
Just because the ball didn’t bounce a certain way for 2 little seasons that will be a tiny blip on the radar for the future, does not all of a sudden banish UGA Football to Conference USA.

“Why doesn’t UGA schedule games against Miami, FSU, Va Tech, or UNC? Those games would be far more interesting.”
We played FSU in the Sugar Bowl, won. We played Va Tech in the Chick Fil A Bowl, won. We already play Ga Tech every year, why do we need to load the schedule with ACC teams?

I’d travel to either one of those compasses in a heartbeat. They will help the schedule in strength. The ACC teams would only hurt it.
Let’s do it!

Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State….in that order.
I’ve been to the Big House in Ann Arbor and would LOVE to go back. A wonderful atmosphere (I know these other schools do too, but I have some MIchigan friends I could stay with for free).

Any of them. Would go in a heartbeat. Holy Cow is right. Great time going to these new venues. Had the time of my life at Arizona St and Colorado. These traditional powers would be even better. And, getting them in Sanford might make me reconsider buying the season tickets that I have given up. Too much $, too many meaningless games, and too much underachieving by Richt.

You are so jealous of UGA. Tell me dork, what “big time” team have you set up a series with? No one wants to play a loer team like yours that will do nothing for their strength of schedule. Scheduling the Nerd Herd is like scheduling Agnus Scott……. sorry for the knock there Agnus Scott.

UGA, the Fans, and McGarity have a BAD case of MPD (multi-personality disorder).
1st it is play the weak lil sisters to hopefully get a shot at the SEC least, SEC, and MNC. Ditch Oregan to get a joke team. Now, get Bosie St. when hopefully they are down. UGA thinks it has a TRADITION to match 4 AAU members like Michigan, Ohio St., Penn St., and Notre Dame? You guys need to put down the smoke and liquor long enough to figure out what direction you really want to go in. After deciding that then realize UGA is not a Historical Football Power.

Unfortunately for Caleb, if you don’t go to class, hand in your course work or pass your tests, you don’t remain eligible…and he’s an example of the 5-star recruits that we bring to Athens. A change in recruit philosophy is needed, but most likely won’t happen until the close of the CMR era…

I relish the idea of playing Big Ten teams. I have no preference… Ohio St., Penn St., Michigan… it doesn’t matter to me. The hype and branding opportunities would be tremedous. I love the idea.
I think McGarity is doing the right thing, by looking at high market value schools to trade home and away games with. Next he needs to look at getting Ga. Tech off our schedule. Tech is far too smelly for us to waste a valuable slot in our schedule.

Are you that big of a moron????? We have you idiot! Who on earth does your nerdy team play? Please dork, don’t go comparing the schedules. Year end year out we play a much tougher schedule than the ner herd. What a dork!
Our biggest patsy on our schedule is your team. Talk about bringing down the strength of schedule. I wish that our AD would dismiss the nerd herd and add one of these schools above mentioned. I hate playing a patsy at the end of the year when all the other schools play a good team

TO 5150 P.O.A.D.:
Your not very smart are you? LSU and Bama are in the SEC West. The only opponent UGA plays every year from that division is Auburn. The rest of the teams rotate on a home and awayy basis. For example this year UGA played Arkansas at home and Miss St on the road. Next year Miss State comes to Athens and Dawgs drop Arkansas for another SEC West team. Got it?

sure, with a new coach 12:10 – “on a side note…anyone hear about Mark Fox betting the players that he would run steps if they hit their free throws? Guess what happens? The players start hitting their free throws.”
Really? They started hitting their free throws? 11-17 vs. Arkansas State. 7-15 vs. Tech. I’d hate to see what their numbers would look like if they were MISSING their free throws.
And the “bet” was only with Chris Barnes, not the whole team, and it was made last year, not just recently. So how’s Barnes been shooting this year? 13-26. I’m not quite sure the “motivational tactic” has been a huge success.
Oh, and I bet you dismissed Mark Richt’s “win the turnover battle and you can grow a beard” tactic as a cheap gimmick.
