Clean Old Fashioned Hate reigns every week. (Collegeflagsandbanners.com)

I’ve seen this referred to as Hate Week II since Georgia and Georgia Tech meet in men’s basketball tonight, the Lady Dogs already having fallen to the Lady Jackets on Sunday.

But let’s face it, when it comes to the Dogs and Jackets, every week is Hate Week.

You’ve no doubt seen the supporters of the Institute show up in this forum from time to time, taking their shots at UGA. A year ago most of their posts were ridiculing Georgia’s bowl game destination: Shreveport.

Typical was a comment from a GT fan calling himself Toe Meets Leather, who opined: “I think the greatest challenge facing UGA will be concentrating on Texas A&M, given the tremendous distraction posed by leisure time in the great metropolitan area of SHREVEPORT! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.

Funny, I’m not seeing too many posts comparing the respective teams’ bowl destinations this year. Both teams finished with 6-6 records, but Georgia is headed to Memphis, home of Graceland and Beale Street and a short ride from the Mississippi casinos, while Tech is going to … Shreveport.

George O'Leary has a 3-4 record against the Dogs since getting rescued off that island. (Turner Home Entertainment)

George O'Leary has a 3-4 record against the Dogs since getting rescued off that island. (Turner Home Entertainment)

At least Tech fans are consistent, though. They didn’t think much of Shreveport last year and apparently don’t think much of it now that their own team is going there; thus the school is offering discounted tickets to the Independence Bowl for just $14 to the first 5,000 purchasers. Maybe they ought to throw in a Coke and a hot dog.

Of course, there’s a slight Tech connection to Georgia’s bowl destination, too, as the Dogs will be playing the 24th-ranked Central Florida  Golden Knights (there’s that color again) led by former Tech coach George O’Leary, who has a 3-4 career record against the Dogs that includes the infamous three in a row that got Jim Donnan canned.

As for tonight’s game, the home team has won all but one of these rivalry matches since the series returned to home-and-home in the 1995-96 season after 14 years at the Omni. The exception was 10 years ago when Georgia won at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. So Tech probably ought to be considered the favorite tonight, even though Georgia comes into the game with a slightly better record and the Jackets have lost two straight, including by 20 points to Northwestern. They also got beat by Kennesaw State earlier in the season.

Last year, Georgia upset the No. 20 ranked Jackets 73-66 in Athens (where Tech hasn’t won since Gerald Ford was president). Making it two years in a row would be a definite step forward for Mark Fox’s program and wouldn’t hurt in recruiting Atlanta kids, either. Also, a win on the road against the Jackets would be a big plus in trying to make the NCAA tourney. Along those lines, the game is being televised nationally on ESPN2.

Win or lose, though, Dogs fans can take comfort in the fact that Georgia’s not going to battle the distractions of Shreveport this year.

And Tech is.

You think Toe Meets Leather is still laughing?

Go Dogs!

UPDATE: Another thriller in the “Thrillerdome.” Great 3-point shooting by Dustin Ware, especially that last basket. But Mark Fox’s Dogs could have made it a lot easier on themselves if their free-throw shooting was stronger. That’s definitely an area that needs improvement. Still, a great win in Atlanta!

Ho hum, well another beat down for Tech looks like this is becoming a habit. I have no idea why you Tech fans even bother to line up against UGA. Tech is nothing but a bunch of loosers. Can’t waite to see how bad Air Force beats your sorry a—-. Instead of worring about a bowl game you Techies need to worry about keeping your money from all the thugs in Atlanta.

Instant karma babay

9:50 am

UGA man here. All I will say is give peace a chance. GT being in the Weedeater simply says it all.

Last year, GT’s geeky fans invested heavily into the negative rhetoric about the Independence/ Weedeater and well, um, Instant Karmas has hit you in the face.

Um, ah, um, one alst thing GT ………………..y’all have yet to win a bowl in years and years and CPJ is looking so bad on the antional stage, with that thumping by slow Iowa. AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

GT has been to two major bowls since the mid 1950s. 19667 Orange Bowl AND the 2009 Orange Bowl and BOTH were losses. 1990 Citrus? Well, the year that Coloorado won ther NC, the Cirus was about like the Gator Bowl or maybe today’s Liberty. It has just cahnged its name form Tangerine to the Citrus and was not major.

So, name one other MAJOR BOWL that GT has been to besides the 67 and 09 Orange bowl in 55 – 60 years?? Major is Rose, Sugar, Orange and Cotton and Capital One or Outback of Fiesta.

You cannot count the Sun or the Emerald City, ALamao or the old Bluebonnet or the Boise Blue Carpet or the Gator or the Chic Fil A or the Music CIty or the Poinsetta or the Aloha, or the Mienike Car Care, etc.

I love it.

Basketball anyone??? "We are a basketball school", say the GT faithful

December 8th, 2010
9:55 am

Where are the GT ” well, um, we are a basketball school anyway” crowd when you need them to abuse???

At some point, GT will come to grips with the fact that their program in football and BBall has slipped from their one year perch. Sadly, with Mark Richt doing some superior coaching damage to CPJ, it is painful for them to deal with that reality.

Go Dogs.

Mick Flanigan

You Dawg fans who keep razzing Tech enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against moron-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Old GT grads are proud

December 8th, 2010
11:16 am

This is for older GT grads that can actually recall their illustrious history of the last oh, 50-60 years. From 1950 to 2009 name one major bowl beyond the Orange in 67 and 09.

Besides the 1967 Orange Bowl ( bitter loss to SEC team ) and the 2009 Orange Bowl ( another humiliating loss to slow, midwestern farm boys ) and the 1990 Citrus ( in 90 it was not major bowl ) and maybe, maybe the 51 or 52 Sugar Bowl, name ONE OTHER major bowl that GT has been to in 60 years.

The gator and Chic Fil A or Peach or Blue Carpet or Bluebonnet or the Liberty or the Pontiac Bowl or the Obama Is A Loser Bowl ( this one IS growing in strength ) and the Sherwin Williams Primer Paint Bowl count as a major.

GT grads? Come on now …………….now one major beyond the Urange.

Bobby Dodd

December 8th, 2010

Bobby Dodd is the namesake for the football field at GT. Apparently, he was some sort of legend. I did view his 1960s Sunday am tv post game show as a kid and really enjoyed him and that moron Furman
( my son played for GT and was a full scholarshop NON athlete ) Bisher talk about the Saturday loss to either Auburn or LSU or UT or to Alabama or some school out of conference like Rice.

Name the MAJOR ??? BOWLS that he took GT to from 1950 to 1967. I recall him losing to Florida in the 67 Orange and that was his last game ever. Bitsey Grant had a chair for him and his bottle of Jack Daniels, after that.

So, beyond the 51, 52 era and the 67 Urange, where did he take GT? I recall his loss to Joe Pa in like 63 or 64. Humiliating that was for him.

Photos that are priceless:

The faces of the two GT grad Navy pilots when their commanding officer called them into his office about their dumb buzzing of Grant Field and their faces when they were STRIPPED of being aviators.
The face of CPJ when Caleb King and W. Ealey sprinted past him time and time again in 09
The face of CPJ in 09 when UGA defeated GT without AJ Green and Kris Durham stepping onto the GT playing field.
The face of CPJ when the Blair Witch Shank went wide.
The face of CPJ when he learned that Aaron Murray has three more years.
The face of CPJ when he read that UGA fans consider Grant Field as their second home field and is frankly much preferred, because we can enjoy imported wine and cheese LONGER at home, then cab it.
The face of CPJ when he saw his highly vaunted passing attack fail in 09.
The face of CPJ when he saw his highly vaunted passing attack fail in 2010.
The face of CPJ when the GT president DRILLED INTO HIM that losing by 8 IS WORSE, than losing by 1.
The face of CPJ when he learned that GT would be in the Independence Bowl.

UGA intentionally twisted his knee in a pile up.

lol. So it’s gone from his ankle to now his knee? rotflmao

Nope, he twisted his ankle himself. Even the AJC had the article where he was interviewed about the injury. He missed something like 2 plays? 3 plays? You make it sound like he was gone for half the game LOL. Am sure Bill can pull up the stats as well as the AJC quote from him.

But don’t let facts get in your face else you’ll trip over your long nose from lying.

Most GT grads, like UGA grads are busy at work. Me? I am a UGA grad and retired.

Stay on the football jokes, etc but abandon the personal descriptions like fat red necks or unemployed morons. Stay on the GT basketball stuff or UGA basketball ……………….like last night!!!

GT when they played Eric Zeir

December 8th, 2010
12:41 pm

I do recall a GT shot toward Zeier’s knee as he stepped into his pass and the GT man tried to roll over on his knee. The TV showed it over and over. Many of you fans will likely recall that. It was worse than the AU Fairy roll over shot on Murray. It was nasty and should not have happened. Eric was ok, i recall.

In the H Walker era, he was routinely taken out of his last game when UGA was up in the 3rd like 34-0. Dooley was told by Coach Mike Cavan that GT tacklers were spitting in his face on his last drive, Dooley put him back in and he ran for TWO MORE TDS!!! BOOM !!!!

GT has never been known as a totally clean, football team. Doddy ran a clean program but hs players all had stand ins for their more difficult classes. Ask any GT football player in the early 60s about Billy Martin’s IQ or Lothridge’s. There were others too.

My family was very close to the GT team MD orthopaedic guy in the 80s and 90s and he often said that 75% of the GT players were dumber than rocks.

Too funny!! All these nerd techie fans posting on here are so pathetic. Since they can’t boast about their dwindling athletic programs any more the only thing they have left to claim is their so called academic standard. Every time they start spouting off about their “superior minds” and “great jobs” just tells everyone else how insecure and shallow they really are. If you don’t care that much about athletics then why are you on a UGA sports blog spouting off your putrid and miserable hate speech? Go find a loser tech engineer blog!

Shreveport Chamber of Commerce

To all the Tech fans and alumni attending the game: (all 7 of you)

Shreveport does not allow blow up dolls in the stadium. Your companion will have to remain in your vehicle during the game.

If you bring them into a restaurant, they do not count toward the head count of customers at your table. In other words, if you want a 4 seater table for 2 nerds and 2 dolls, you will get a 2 seater.

More information to come as the game gets closer.

I am still amazed by the morons who still believe that Tech lost because of a missed extra point! If you can get 8 points from a PAT, you are in a different sport. The fact of the matter is that both teams tried to fumble away chances to win the game and UGA made enough plays to win the game.

Deal with it!

Two of my most satisfying rituals:
1. Morning cup of coffee, newspaper, and a great BM
2. Beating whatever athletic team GT puts on the field against UGA

Regularity is the key to happiness!

So, I'll ask again

December 8th, 2010
3:10 pm

GT has attended two ( 2 ) major bowls in 60 years. No, the 1990 Citrus Bowl then was in the league of a Gator Bowl or Peach at best and therefore NOT considered then a major and is marginally one even today.

A major is the Rose, the Sugar and Cotton, the Fiesta (only in the last 22+ years ) and of course, the Orange.

So, name one major other than the Orange that GT has been to since 1950.

I would also prefer the number of major invites too. Like 1- Sugar or 2- Orange or 3- Cotton, etc. I care less about the Dairy Queen Bowl or the Gator or the Weedeater ( 2 for UGA ) and the Music City ( 2 UGA?) and the Liberty ( 3 FOR UGA ) all minor bowls.

Got it? This will illustrate the recent success ( Urange in 09 ) and the historical and LONG TERM success of the GT program.

Please do the same for UGA, to be fair. Any takers??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

To answer this challenge, will forever put and end to this” GT is a power house and always has been” rant.
