A Georgia Bulldogs fan’s wish list for 2011

With the regular season over and the bowl pairing still to come, a lot of fans are looking ahead to next season and debating what changes, additions and tweaks are needed to pull Mark Richt’s program out of its two-season slump. Here’s my own wish list for the Dawgs, which is topped by:

A big, bad JUCO nose guard to bolster the undersized defensive line. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is in dire need of more bulk and aggressive play on the defensive line, and while signing Thomasville defensive end Ray Drew looks like a must, Georgia can’t wait for a true freshman to mature. So let’s hope some of the junior college lineman the Dogs reportedly are looking at wind up in Athens next season.

A more consistent Mike Bobo. Richt has indicated the former Georgia QB will return as his offensive coordinator, and while that decision isn’t popular with some fans, I’m OK with it. (An interesting discussion of Bobo’s pros and cons has been taking place at Get the Picture.) Bobo is a fine developer of quarterbacks and shows flashes of brilliance as a playcaller. The problem is he’s inconsistent, too often going away from what’s working in what appears to be a misguided attempt at balance. He needs to step up his game next season if the Richt era is to continue at UGA.

A new gamebreaker on offense. With the Dogs likely to lose A.J. Green, it becomes more crucial than ever to sign a player who opposing defenses have to account for on every play. Say, a blue-chip back like Isaiah Crowell. Returnees Washaun Ealey and Caleb King are decent running backs but nobody’s going to be talking about them being a first-round NFL draft pick. Just ask Steve Spurrier what adding a top-ranked running threat can do for your program.

A new rising star at wide receiver. If the Dogs do indeed lose Green along with senior Kris Durham, someone besides Tavarres King is going to have to step up in the receiving corps. Can Marlon Brown finally live up to his potential in his third year in Athens? I’d love to see it happen. Or will it have to be a true freshman? With Mitchell County’s Justin Scott-Wesley reportedly now soft on his commitment to UGA, the pressure is on to sign a receiver who can make a difference in a hurry.

Strength. As in the strength for Richt to make the hard decision to replace his best friend, Dave Van Halanger, as director of Georgia’s strength and conditioning program. The Dogs have been getting pushed around on both lines for too long now and the comments from opposing players about our guys being gassed late in the game have been cropping up far too frequently. Those mat drills might have been cutting-edge at FSU in 1990s, but they’re not getting the job done these days in Athens.

Those are the things I think are most needed. What’s on your wish list for the Dogs?

Isaiah Crowell please run when you see Richt coming to your school smiling and using God in his speech to you and your mom….

What do you mean Bozo will be back next year? Are you kidding.

Here’s the deal: No more money from Snoop Dawg to UGA until I see significant changes in the coaching staff. Period…

Now I’m truly depressed… Maybe we should start a campaign to fire the UGA president too if he is comfortable with the status quo…

Grantham has proven to be an expensive dud. Throw him out along with Preacha Man and the rest of the buffoons on the UGA coaching staff… Clean sweep!

Richts buddy system is coming to a close. Boo Boo and Searles should be put on notice. Next put Garner into the wind and McClendon too.

If change is to take place, it all starts at the top.

The S & C program needs a change.

4th quarter, Georgia outscored 68 points to 85 points.

Teams were running the hurry offense to exhaust the defense.

I have noticed several post calling for Murray to be replaced, really..life is hard, it is harder for stupid people.. The kid played lights out for a freshman. He developed and improved all year, had very few turn overs, what more can you ask for from a freshman ?
If you would have shown me what his final stats were at the begining of the year I would have said UGA will be 10-2 or 9-3 but our DEFENSE was a JOKE ALL year sooooo 6-6 is the record.

Let's Talk About UGA!

DawgNation,

Tragic news.

Today, at the Sunny Days Drive-Up and Live-In Mobile Community, my home, a violent crime was committed to a fellow dawg fan.

Police have been poking around Mama’s trailer all day long.

Investigators are stumped because everybody’s DNA matches and, of course, there are no dental records.

Anybody want a beer?

Go Dawgs!
Sic ‘em!
Woof! Woof! Woof!

Auburn’s D gave up more points than Georgia’s, but Auburn’s offense scored more points than Georgia. Takes a top 5 offense to win the SEC.

Excellent, excellent list Bill. Agreed on all points. All I want from Bobo is more consistency as well.

Another season has passed, and yet the delusional Dawg fan base still thinks UGA is relevant. 1980 was a long, long, long time ago. When was the last ’signature’ win you had? What ever happened to all those ‘Top 10′ recruiting classes you had? What makes you think that a significant coach would come to Athens and coach these thugs? What makes you think that a quality 5-star athlete would come to Athens?

You beat GT because their kicker missed an extra point. GT kicked you guys all over the field. What was it, 500+ yards of total offense by a team that you ridicule as having a high school offense. You did nothing to stop it, and if it weren’t for the fumbles deep in GT territory, you would have lost that game.

My wish list;
1. Another bad season
2. Lose to UF…….again
3. Lose to Auburn…..again
4. Have more players arrested

As I prepare to see my Ohio State Buckeyes play in ANOTHER BCS bowl game, I can’t help but laugh at you rednecks who think that UGA is a national powerhouse. Enjoy your mid-December bowl game you d-bags!

Absolutely nothing is going to change until UGA changes its third-rate coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Dawgtard Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many blue chip high school players go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in Athens.

Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?

As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.

Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.

So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?

Just asking.

Typical UGA fans. No “nice game”. No “good luck in your bowl game”. No “Paul Johnson really gets you guys ready to play against us”.

Are there any good sports at UGA? Are there any true sports fans who love the game at UGA? Or are you all just a bunch of name callers and mud slingers? Seriously, if I was a UGA alumni, which I doubt most of you are, I’d be a bit embarrassed.

For the record, most UGA alumni I know are well educated sports fans, who win and lose with class. But the non-alumni hangers-on… well, that’s another story.

No more Sunday School praying for a win. Line the dadgum team up and get the heck after it and strap it on and play some dang football. Knock the you know what out of people on defense a la Greg Blue, Tony Gilbert, and Thomas Davis. Run over people on the way to the end zone a la Herschel and Knowshon. Mike Bobo turn Aaron Murray loose-he is quite possibly the best quarterback we have ever had-don’t be like Dean Smith a la stopping Michael Jordan. Find leadership like David Greene and David Pollack. That’s all.

Okay, they gave me “gas money” too. ;-)
