Mike Bobo and Mark Richt aren’t why Georgia lost to Auburn

Auburn might have had more sacks had it not been for Aaron Murray's scrambling ability. (Associated Press)

Auburn might have had more sacks had it not been for Aaron Murray's scrambling ability. (Associated Press)

Some more thoughts on Georgia’s loss to Auburn. …

As I mentioned briefly Saturday night, you can quibble with some of Mike Bobo’s calls in the game against the Tigers, particularly when he tried things (I’m thinking Branden Smith in the wildcat or screen passes to the short side of the field on third-and-long) that seemed to have much less of a chance of working than simply throwing it in A.J. Green’s direction.

And while Auburn hitman Nick Fairley (I feel the need for Purell hand sanitizer after just typing his name) is more than a handful to block, the Dogs’ pass protection faltered a bit too often Saturday. The Dogs only gave up four sacks, but that amount might have been close to doubled had it not been for Aaron Murray’s elusiveness and scrambling ability. And besides taking a lot of late hits, Murray was hurried on some key plays, like the too-high pass to Kris Durham in the end zone late in the third quarter when one of the backs missed his block.

And, yes, you can question Mark Richt running out the final 50-odd seconds of the first half rather than trying to get some more points. Perhaps he also should have been a bit more forceful in warning his kickoff return team about the possibility of an on-side kick to open the second half. And, frankly, I think he blinked in the eye-to-eye confrontation with Auburn when he called for a field goal at the end of the third quarter. When you’re in a shootout with an offense that eats up clock, you have to make the most of every possession you get.

But overall Bobo and the Georgia offense were what kept the Dogs in the game, and with the exception of the on-side kick I don’t think Richt and company got outcoached by Gene Chizik.

The reason Georgia lost against Auburn was pretty much the same reason the Dogs have lost five other games: The defense just isn’t up to current SEC or past UGA standards.

And this isn’t a complaint about Todd Grantham’s schemes. It didn’t matter what signals he called Saturday against the Tigers defense, the players on the field simply weren’t capable of stopping Cam Newton and company. The lack of a nose guard able to take control of the line of scrimmage has pretty much submarined Grantham’s attempt to install his 3-4 defense this year and unless Georgia manages to scrounge up a big JUCO player, I wonder how much better it’ll be next year.

Of course, nobody has really stopped Newton, so I’ll give them that. But as a frustrated Justin Houston lamented after the game, the Tigers did a lot of damage with players other than Newton running the reverse, including gashing the Dogs for 31 yards one time and 48 yards another time. Houston blamed “blown assignments” and defenders not being “where they were supposed to be,” adding, “Some guys weren’t as focused as they need to be and it hurt us. It’s been hurting us all season.”

Indeed it has, especially in the secondary, where Georgia’s safety play has been consistently poor. Bacarri Rambo may have snagged a key interception on a tipped ball Saturday, but otherwise his play was tentative much of the evening. And while I suppose it was to be expected that Georgia would be keying on the run since that’s Auburn’s bread and butter (that’s all they did in the third quarter), the Dogs defenders seemed to completely forget that Newton also can throw the ball. He ended up completing 12 of 15 passes (80 percent) for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and that was with a couple of drops in the first half by wide-open receivers.

Come to think of it, on just about all Auburn’s completions the receiver was open. You expect that sort of thing early in the season after a new defense has been installed. But when it’s still happening in the 11th game, you have to conclude the folks out on the field mostly just aren’t capable of getting it done.

Finally, a couple of observations on the way our so-called “country cousins” at Auburn handled this major rivalry game. Afterward, Chizik might have declared himself “disappointed” and “not happy” about two of his players getting ejected when tempers started to flare late, but as I noted in my previous blog he seemed to be doing anything but trying to keep his players’ emotions in check on the sideline.

And then there was the reaction of the Auburn fans when Georgia linebacker Reuben Faloughi went down with a leg injury in the fourth quarter, resulting in the Tigers’ hurry-up game getting slowed down momentarily.

They booed the hurt player.

Really classy. War damn eagle, indeed.

bill i agree with you entirely about chizik–he made the situation worse rather than better. he set a very poor example for his players by acting the way that he did, and given the example he set i think it’s pretty clear why guys like fairley play the way they do. they won’t keep winning with that kind of nonsense.

and just to amplify on and get a little more specific about your comments about the defense: we blew it on 3rd down again. auburn is going to get yards on anyone, but to have a chance to win we were going to have to force field goals. once again, couldn’t get it done in the red zone or on 3rd down. that’s got to be a huge point of emphasis for us going into the tech game and into next year.

thanks for not blaming richt/bobo. i think our plan was good, and the kids were ready to play. they just got beat on the road by a very good team. it happens. everybody grow up, move on, and start thinking about beating tech.

Yeah I gotta say that I think especially in the first half we played really well. Honestly I just think Cam Newton is such a superb athlete that our defense didn’t have a chance. They are 11-0 for a reason you know. Overall I was pleased with our effort

Probably not first since reading the article before posting……The officials MUST do something about that body slamming maniac Auburn has on defense. There is absolutely no call for that.

Bill, you are right. We have to improve our secondary and get a nose tackle before we can really see what this 3-4 defense can do. I also thought we should have been able to run the ball a little better so as to control the time of possession better as well. However, if you can’t stop them on 3rd down, that is hard to accomplish.

Next year should truly be better if CMR can start from day one in spring practice working on blocking and tackling, hitting hard and not practice soft like he has the past several years.

I’d sort of laid the turning the fire hose on the Georgia fans to rest but after watching those A holes last night, I’m back to can’t wait to get there butts in Athens next year. wouldn’t want to an Auburn fan going to the game and if anybody from Auburn is planning on going to Athens in the next few weeks, I’d cover those plates and decals up. What I really want to know is who on the GA team called the play to run right at Fairly? Haven’t seen that gutty a call from UGA in a long time. Was Van Gorder hiding on the sideli9ne somewhere?

Auburn has defined itself beyond any shadow of a doubt, not that there was much (petrino, turberville, bowden, lowder (sp) to begin with. They have to live with it. It will be greatly to their detriment in a lot of areas for the foreseeable future. UGAs problems can be fixed, and while I am a huge Richt fan the stability of the program transcends the coach because the alumni that matter will not abide the win at all cost in spite of any principles approach the most influential Auburn alumni live by.

Auburn has a history of dirty play, ask Glenn Dorsey and Reggie Brown. Georgia players should have chopped blocked Fairley repeatedly until they got him out of the game. You make a good point about the lack of a noseguard for the 3-4. Grantham should play a 4-3 until one can be found. However coaching is a problem. Our dbs don’t know the schemes and are consistently out of position. They are also too soft. Rambo in particular is a disgrace. One last thought. They needed to decide if Braden Smith has the swivel in his hips to play corner. If not, convert him to wide receiver now.

Georgia and Georgia Tech should swap head coaches. Georgia won a national championship in 1980 primarily because of running back Hershel Walker. Tech won a national championship in 1990 primarily because of passing quarterback Shawn Jones. Tech does better as a passing team and Georgia does better as a running team. Mark Richt should coach at Tech and Paul Johnson should develop his running offense at Georgia.

Once again, you show yourself to be an idiot. I can’t believe you can question the Auburn coaches after the history of UGA’s actions under Mark Richt. Did you not see the Auburn coaches trying to control the players? I don’t believe a single Auburn player left the bench, but half of the UGA bench came onto the field on a play where UGA players were going after Fairley. UGA offensive line had a chop block on Fairley and they attack him while he is on the ground, but what does Richt do about that. Auburn coaches were trying to control the players while Mark Richt was yelling at the officials. Yes, Richt got out coach as he has all year, during the game and during the fight. UGA’s troubles started when Richt let them all run on the field in Jacksonville, nothing has changed, your problem at UGA is getting worse. Enjoy your 5 win season, I hope you keep Richt around for a lot more.

You hit it dead on the nail Bill. We can complain and nitpick about the O-line play and the occasional fumblitis (always at the worst possible moment, but those really are nitpicks. Overall the offence has performed outstanding.

The problem is the D right now is Square Pegs in round holes. I like grantham’s system, and I love the aggressiveness the D has shown at times, but until UGA gets a HOSS in the middle of the line, LB that stay home and tackle (Dent the one exception here), and DB’s that stay in their assignments and learn to tackle — the D is going to be vulnerable.

There are signs here and there of the light going on for xertain players, and there are times the scheme has produces big plays even with the players we have, but bottom line is the Dawgs need to recruit better and SMARTER 3-4 players. Until then the D will be erratic at best.

Auburn is classless, but we already knew that. UGA is not tough enough and not disciplined enough for a team that is supposed to be in the upper tier. This coaching staff has reached its limits. And for all the apologist like Buck Belue, if the majority of the fan base feels that way, it’s not the “lunatic fringe.”

Most people thought that the only way for us to win would be to match Auburn score for score. We were able to do that right up to 28-28. Even so, I feared that when AU recovered the on-side kick, that was probably the play of the game (and yes, I was there at Jordon-Haire). Bill, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I fail to understand why we still play so much cover two, unless Grantham truly believes that we don’t have the athletes to man up.

Earlier in the game when Fairly hit Murray late, he was penalized as he should have been. In the 4th quarter, Fairly was blocked into Murray – no penalty was called because it wasn’t warrented. The UGA players started the whole mess by jumping on Fairly when he was on the ground after the next play. There’s been no comment from Richt for his failure to control his players or apologizing for their role in starting the fight. It works both ways.

When UGA was up 21-7, San Francisco dawg basically claimed dawgs would win. But I prophetically said, “wait, my friend, you have to score 50 points to win this game”. It turns out I was right on the money, Auburn scored 49 points and UGA didn’t score 50.

Bill, while you are analyzing the game, your points are totally off the points. There is no secret about Auburn’s success: their defense is mediocre and they simply outscore everybody they play to win.

Everybody in the country knows to beat Auburn you have to defend against Newton, but nobody cannot defend him. The same is true about UGA, without AJGreen, UGA is nothing but a 3rd tier team. But Auburn cannot defend AJGreen, which is why UGA was in the game for a while.

The simple truth is, Newton has a much bigger influence to the game than AJGreen. Green is just a receiver, while Newton is QB plus RB. That’s how UGA lost while Auburn won. Not what you gobbled up in the blog.

All of the Richt bashers should just find another team to root for. Richt will not cheat to win while other coaches will. Richt doesn’t teach his players to try to hurt other players. For all of you thinking this team is loaded with talent, the past four recruiting classes have been middle of the pack for SEC teams. While that may be a great class by national standards, they are average for SEC standards. We simply don’t have enough playmakers on defense. Bill is right this time. Rambo may get a pick every now and again, but he gets burned on basic wheel routes every game. He and Ogletree were playing too close to the line of scrimmage all game. That’s on them for being out of position. The coaches can tell them until they’re blue in the face, but it’s the players job to execute.
Grantham is gonna need probably two more recruiting classes to get enough men to properly run the system. We’ve got to find a way to keep Bama and Auburn from taking the guys we need. Part of that starts with you, the fan. Nobody wants to play for a bunch of poor mouthing Judases.

The Auburn students thought Faloughi was faking the injury to give our defense time to catch a breath. It turns out they were wrong.

I don’t know how anybody stops that Auburn offense. If you key on Newton too much, there are some good backs who can take it outside, and he almost always did a run fake, even when he carried the ball. If the safeties cheat on the run, he has the ability to pass the ball and some decent receivers who will get open. Maybe Alabama will prove me wrong, but I don’t think they will handle it as well as LSU did. So, the only way to beat them is to outscore them.

I felt like we changed some things once we got the lead, but maybe that was the Auburn defense adjusting.

I agree with you that the safety play was weak- again. I feel like had our safety play been on par with Florida’s, we would have beat them. For several years, our secondary seems to be out of place and it may just be IQ, plain and simple. Ogletree is going to be a good one and he made some freshman mistakes. Rambo is a great athlete, but that athleticism doesn’t do much good when he is out of position.

Let’s wait and see what the NCAA does to wipe that grin off of Newton’s face. Then see if he can blow kisses!!!!!!!! Fairley has been allowed to bodyslam all season without repremand either from his coach or the officials. Ask Arkansas’ quarterback.
The officials should be sanctioned by the SEC for allowing the game to build to such emotion from both teams. I cannot blame the Georgia players from retaliating when Murray is blatantly late hit by Fairley. If he were in the NFL, he would be fined and sanctioned. If that is the case, then what is there to say about SEC officiating, especially when the team is destined to be in the championship game.
I cannot believe that the Florida/Georgia was a true college game compared to this one. I agree with Rex Robinson, The rivalry between UGA and Auburn of times past is over!!!

Alphare, as you said in the beginning of your response, Georgia would have needed 50 points to win…a lot of us would have predicted that, not because Cam Newton can’t be slowed down, but because the Georgia defense still needs an awful lot of work. That was the point of this blog. And Auburn has been slowed down before this season – Miss State and LSU have good defenses and held Auburn to a reasonable point total.

Auburn has played 8 of their 11 games at home and their road games have been at Ole Miss, at Miss State and at UK. Not exactly murderer’s row on the road and the barely escaped with 3 point wins in two of those games. I’m not an Alabama fan, but Auburn hasn’t faced a team anywhere close to Bama on the road this year. The Tide will have a plan in place to make Newton pay every time he runs the ball. Auburn is going down hard…and it’s just a matter of time before the NCAA hammer comes down as well. .

I maybe wrong but I remember Grantham saying we did not need a big NT if that is the case he might want to rethink that one. As for Fairley he continued to hit Murray late and on more than one attempt would put his hands under Murray’s legs as to pull Murray up and slam him down. AS for all the AU fans complaining about Richt, he is not the coach(Trooper Taylor) that ran onto the field to congrat his player (Fairley) as he made a fool of himself on national television. Richt ran out on the fieild five or six times to the refs and then he let the whole bench run out for the fight. Also, when Auburn was booing the “injured player” it was because he was hobbling off the field and then Richt was pointing to the ground and telling his player to stay on the ground. How about you get your band under control too? They play everytime another offense is on the field. ThUGA is the one that had 10 players arrested. Not Auburn

I keep saying sometimes you have to venture out of your normal recruiting zone to get the talent you really need and UGA will not do it. The Secondary is a joke and I hope we do have some aggressive hard hitting CBs and S coming in next season. Lakatos and Grantham have got to fix this problem before the GT game. Rick James you are an idiot. I should put you on the field and drive you into the ground and see if you see it the same way. Most people who haven’t even touched the field shouldn’t even comment if they don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. They should’ve broken both of his legs and he would have been kicked out of a NFL game. 2. Grantham choking.( the fact he was not punished is beyond comical)
3. AD arrested for DUI with a hooker in the passenger seat.
4. Stomping up and down on AU logo before game sat like the clarke county jail thugs they are.

5. The ENTIRE UGA team including coaches storms the field to get involved in a fight while AU is “classless for getting fired up on the sideline after beating the thugs from Athens.
6.. On 3 different occasions UGA fans tried to set toomers corner on fire Saturday night.

This is just in the last year and there are MANY MANY more examples of this.

Some of you Georgia peoples comments are laughable at best, including Bill Kings comments. As the announcers on tv stated, Fairly was blocked into the qb’s legs, as was obvious if you actually watched the play happen and or watched the replay on tv. Fairley plays the game like EVERYONE SHOULD be playing it, hard, fast and until the whistle blows. Because your team CAN’T play that way, don’t be putting down Fairley. BLOCK HIM, if you don’t want him hitting your qb GEORGIA!!!! ALL THE HITS but one, which was flagged, were PERFECTLY fair and were not penalized, which MEANS GEORGIA FANS, IT’S LEGAL, and no pansy whining will make it not legal. For ANY Georgia moron to call ANY other school classless, after the arrest and on the field actions of the Georgia program under Mark Richt, is truly laughable.

Back too the point… the reason a lot of colleges don’t run the 3-4 is because 400 lb 18 years olds that can bench press a bus are hard to find. notice how Bama is doing without mount Cody. With out that rock/man mountain in the middle a solid SEC team simply runs the ball down your throat.

Did you watch the tape? It was an appropriately penalized chop block but it was not a flagrant one. Not even a biased Tiger/Eagle/Plainsman fan could honestly compare that to Fairley’s attacks on Murray. In the NFL he’d be about $100,000 lighter in the wallet and would be suspended at least 1 to 2 games.

And Willie B has nothing to do with Fairley’s race. If you were raised in Atlanta and ever saw Willie B when he was in the glass cage, preening and strutting and pounding his chest, and thought about Fairley’s fat face that barely fits inside his helmet. you couldn’t miss the similarity.

He ACTS like Willie B much more than he even LOOKS like Willie B.

It’s funny that someone mentioned a chop block by Auburn a few years ago, considering that a Georgia lineman committed a chop block on Fairley in the first quarter. Was that considered a dirty play? Fairley had one wrong play and a penalty was called. The rest of the night that “line” of Georgia was unable to block him. Blame Georgia’s sad excuse of an offensive line. As for the shot at the end of the game by Fairley, he was blocked into Murray.

Someone said that Auburn had a history of playing dirty. Yep, Hines Ward’s cheap shot on Jimmy Bumbraugh was as dirty as it gets.

Auburn-Georgia isn’t a friendly rivalry. I have found the UGA fans to be arrogant and obnoxious. You deserve a clown like Richt. Maybe when he gets fired, the assistant coaches will either do the throat slashing sign or maybe throw some red panties in his lap, or perhaps AJ will sell a t-shirt about it.

Jason

Bill-

Let’s be fair. This is year 1 with the 3-4. Grantham has Georgia’s scoring improved, total defense yards improved, in year 1, without the right body types to run it. It’s going to take some time. Maybe even until 2012 to get it down, the 3-4 is as complex as it gets.

But, you have, in Todd Grantham, the guy who Nick Saban tried to hire 2 times, the guy who taught Kirby Smart how to coach defense at Alabama in the off-seasons. Grantham can coach.

If you compare where Saban finished with his defense in 2007, in his first year putting in the 3-4, to where Grantham’s D will finish nastionally in his first year at Georgia, Grantham beats Saban in almost every stat.

Very few of the losses can you pin to Grantham, most were due to Aaron Murray getting sacked, overthrowing, getting off to slow starts, having a poor 4th quarter, or throwing interceptions. He’s a freshman, no surprise there either.

A few of the losses were due to AJ Green’s suspension, and Ealey and King’s fumbles.

But Grantham has improved the Georgia defense dramatically, and will likely beat Saban’s 1st year at Alabama in most categories.

Grantham was in charge of Outside LB’s and Houston has led the SEC in BOTH sacks and tackles for loss.

I’ve been very impressed with Grantham, and Belin, BElin has Georgia’s LB’s leading the SEC in tackling.

Lakotas will be a big improvement eventually when he gets his type of guys on there–Georgia is giving up a lot less big pass plays over the last 5 games, and Garner has sent so many guys to the NFL, there’s no doubt about his coaching, but Garner lost 3 DL to the NFL.

Bottom line, Grantham in 2010 beat Saban in 2007, that says a lot, as Saban is considered, or WAS considered, to be the #1 defensive guru in the country.

Not anymore.

We need more beef up-front. 290 lb Deangelo Tyson (god help him) is not cutting it. Then you have Dobbs (280 lb) and Abry Jones (290 lb). Racist Galt,

Sure I watched the game. UGA’s player engaged Fairley and the other one took a shot at his knee. That’s what a chop block is. Trying to rationalize any of them is beyond insane. If I use that logic, what was the big deal with the late hit Fairley put on Murray’s back? Murray got up. Wasn’t that big a deal because nothing horrible happened.

Sure I grew up Atlanta and remember Willie B well. He sat around in the grass and soaked up the sun. Don’t even try to explain your way out of calling an African American player a gorilla.

You were obviously watching the game from the comfort of your living room, otherwise you would have clearly seen Faloughi hobbling to the sideline and then pause when he saw his coaching staff motioning him to stay on the field. It’s one thing for a player who cramps up and needs a minute to get his muscles back. It’s completely different when the coaches won’t allow him do that on the sideline.

The Dawgs failed to slow down Dyer and McCalebb. Newton was going to get his yards, but I mentioned earlier the key’s would be slowing down the rest of his merry men. The Dawgs defense could not maintain its spacing and play disciplined football on defense. Plenty of chances on 3rd down and the defense could not get itself off the field.

Offensively the game was called above average. Sure some questionable moments, the Smith insert and in the 4th quarter the are in a I formation w/ a TE and 2 WR down by at least 10. That was the play Ealy was tripped and we threw into the flats to Chappas.

Overall the team performed admirably. We got another gutsy effort out of the team and at this point in the season 5-5 and have that effort it shows a lot of heart. The stinging moment of the night was in the fact at how easily Florida was dominated by South Carolina.

Hey Dipstick, regarding the player you say was booed when he was hurt: the player was jogging (with a limp but jogging nonetheless) toward the UGA sideline, and you could see the UGA coaches jumping off the sideline and waving at him to get down. It was OBVIOUS that the coaches wanted him to hit the deck so they could get the injury timeout. Thus the boos from the student section – they were directed at the coaches, not the player. Here’s another point: when UGA had another guy hurt, lying face-down for a few minutes in the 3rd quarter, a group of Auburn players got in a circle and said a prayer for him. No one on Saint Mark’s sideline bothered.

I still say the replay analysis was botched on both the on-side and the last TD for Auburn…and I still say that Auburn’s, in Barnhardt’s terms, ‘going all in’ and ‘rolling the dice’ with the Newton eligibility issue will cost them, big time. They, AU, could only have made their decision with full knowledge of what the truth is…they asked themselves ‘how would we act if we thought we, and the Newtons, had done nothing wrong’, and that’s the way they decided to go. Trouble is the truth is gonna come out on this – maybe not in the next few weeks, maybe not in the next couple of months, but it will come out and when it does Auburn’s decision will be looked on by the NCAA with an eye toward making sure no other school ever lies to them again.

This pay for play on top of the other two major probations may be more than the NCAA can tolerate.

Like so many schools, the good folks of Auburn have turned their fottball programs over to the win at all cost idiots. I didn’t learn much on Saturday, apart from the fact that Nick Fairley is trash and Coach Chizik is no better. The offense has, surprisingly, been playing really well since mid-season and has put enough points on the board to win pretty much every game since SC. Same story as last year, though, the defense has been subpar.

I’ve been saying all along that Grantham’s D will only work with players who are built for it. That can only come with recruiting. The coaching staff has a ton of work to do to make the 3-4 as effective as we want it to be. I’m not expecting a miracle turnaround next season. But give CTG the time he needs to build a winner. George-

I’m sure you are a wise man, but there are different degrees of violations. Georgia has NEVER been on a no-TV no-bowl violation probation. And we have had major breeches of trust (Evans) and some student DUIs- all of which led to firings or expulsions.

You have a QB who was convicted of receiving stolen property (and knew it- that’s why he threw the PC out the window before he was arrested). He has warrants out for his arrest in FL- the BCS bowl isn’t in Florida is it? And the yet-to-be-proved allegations are growing daily; with his history, I’d be a little wary if I were you.

After the USC/Reggie Bush fiasco, the NCAA will crush AU if these allegations are true and Newton has continued to lie.

Bill-Maybe the reason for the booing was that it was the third time it happened in the game. All three times, the injured player stopped between the numbers on the field and the Georgia sideline and two of those times, the Georgia coaches were motioning for the player to get on the ground. All three players stayed on the ground for a brief period and sure looked fine when they left the field. If you were in the press box on the west side of the stadium, and you were paying attention, you would have seen this. Auburn has now played eleven games and been victorious in every one. Of the eleven teams played so far, some Georgia fans (and certainly the Atlanta print media) are without a doubt the biggest bunch of cry-babies and whiners of the lot! Come on Georgia, man up!!

Georgia has a good team and a great program but you are going through a down year. All teams go through down years and it is easy to understand why, when this happens, the faithful are frustrated and want to lash out at someone. Supporters of every team in the SEC want to win and win big every single year. However, during a disappointing season supporters should direct their energy toward backing their team and athletic department, not lashing out at everyone else. Blaming officiating, opposing coaches, outstanding quarterbacks and aggressive defensive players isn’t going to result in more wins. You can’t make things better by trying to downgrade your competitors and calling for the heads of your talented coaching staff. Remember, the guys on the field are in their late teens, maybe some in the early twenties. They are not professionals but are young men playing their hearts out for the glory of the game and our enjoyment. They cannot be expected to excel every game or every season.

If Bill King (and I feel the need for Lysol and compazine) really wanted to help the Georgia program and not just sell newspapers, he would devoted his efforts in a positive direction and rally the Bulldog nation behind the team, the coaching staff and the athletic department. Crying and whining, in a way not seen from supporters or press of LA-Monroe, UT-Chattanooga, Arkansas State and seven other teams, is not the answer but instead contributes greatly to the problems the Georgia staff faces as they attempt to restore the program to the levels expected by Bulldog fans.

It’s amusing to read the holier-than-thou rants of Mr. Junkyard Blawg and his moron minions. You’ll enjoy some credibility as soon as you can admit that the late-game brawl was started by THREE OF YOUR offensive lineman–including that class act Clint Boling, LITERALLY DIVING ON TOP of the Auburn player WHILE HE WAS ON THE GROUND. When you can admit your own wrongs, you can criticize others’ shortcomings with some credibility. Until then, shutup and get used to 6-6 seasons because if you think Richt and Bozo can out-coach and out-recruit Saban, Spurrier, Meyer, etc., then you’re just plain as stupid as everyone thinks you are.

I have to admit all of the complaining about AU’s hits is overblown. They were just playing good, hard SEC football. I think we as GA fans need to realize that we are to blame for our own problems. This season’s mess is bigger than the Auburn game. We all need to come together and figure out why we have had such a horrible season. Auburn is a great team and they will probably win the BCS championship. I’m just proud our boys were able to keep it interesting.

10-15 UGA players should be sitting for the 1st 1/2 of the Tech game. Dawgs throw punches and rush the field. A rules violation should be punished right Dawgs? Well, since you guys want the games to be on the up and up make sure Coach Richt punishes all the Dawgs for the fight and charging the field. The rest of the football world doesn’t want you to be Hypocrites. I bet the SEC lets Richt slide because they would have a fit if UGA lost to an ACC team and didn’t get to go to a Bowl. That would be the last Nail for Richt for sure.

there’s a saying in football, ‘you can’t win a game at the end of the first half, but you sure as hell can lose it’..some need to keep that in mind. and if B Smith makes a 20 yard run, you’ll be saying we should do that more..i think, bill, you’re being very nit-picky on some of those comments..but, like you said, the bottom line is, our defense just isn’t very good…and at some point, you’ve got to wonder, we’ve already fired one DC, hired another with a totally different scheme, and still, the same results…i swear we’re the only team that allows other WR’s to be so open most of the time. and we still don’t get near enough pressure on the QB if we’re going to continue to let guys be that open..you either need to A)be a good cover team, or B)get after the QB, which we do neither..

Hahaha. Strange that you wouldn’t mention a UGA OL’s engaged cut block (the most dangerous play in football) on Fairley early in the game – and there were several more that didn’t get called.

Strange you didn’t mention Saint Richt allowing the Soulja Boys to stomp on the AU logo at midfield before the game. That, by the way, is the first squad to do that this year. Superman That Ho, Indeed.

You must have omitted the fact that UGA’s entire team ran off the bench and onto the field to engage in a fight, which by the way should result in every single player being suspended for the next game – per NCAA rules. While not one player from AU did.

Weird that you would condone a dirty piling on after the whistle as retribution for what a referee clearly saw and did not call as a late hit (and the unbiased Gary Danielson echoed moments later as a completely clean play).

All this coming from the reigning Fulmer Cup Champs, the all-time leader in off-season arrests, and a defensive coordinator who gave an opposing player (a kid) the choke sign last week.

The good news is that you know when the opposing team resorts to calling you “classless” – you are officially on top. Go Dawgs, Indeed.

I hope that this writer disinfected his fingers when he typed Grantham’s name after his attempt to intimidate the UF kicker. I saw Chizik excited about winning the west division. I did not see Chizik encouraging bad behavior like Richt did in leading the whole team onto the field. Fairley’s play was excessive, but it did not approach the level of late hits and bad sportsmanship of Danell Ellerbe and many other of Richt’s thugs.

Auburn University is a joke

November 14th, 2010
8:11 pm

This is really getting funny. Auburn is all of a sudden waking up and taking on a cowboy persona. Cannot believe you are actually defending your fans booing an injured UGA player. DO you think they actually knew at the time that he was not hurt badly? Some of you say the fans were booing the UGA coaches. Well, whatever. All I can say is that booing the other team’s players who are injured shows a lack of class and if you are trying to defend it then you have no class either. And you are going to defend the dnagerous/loose cannon Fairley and Trooper Taylor thug-acting coach? And the Auburn FAMILY deal and its defending of Cam Newton wholeheartedly is very naive. Your fans have always been over zealous and willing to resort to cheating for the sake of football. It has to do with the fact that Auburn has a chip on its shoulder because they have always been considered a second class university compared to Bama. Yes, you have a great team and a great quarterback this year, but I predict you will pay dearly for the enjoyment you are feeling right now. There are too many signs pointing to guilt on Cam Newton’s dad. And guess what, the ineligibility penalty follows the athlete and therefore Auburn will pay for its willingness to make a deal with the devil. After it is all over, you will have nothing but your FAMILY. Don’t worry about Bama, UGA or the other Georgia team, Tech. We will at least have a respectable University and yours is second rate compared to us. I used to look at the Auburn as a good natured rivalry, but after yesterday with Fairley, your fans, and your coaches, things have changed. GO OREGON AND GO BAMA!

One thing I have learned reading these comments is that, as I suspected all along, Auburn fans are MORONS. Sure the fight was started by Bulldog players, but there was a reason and that was the continued dirty play of one player. It’s not like he didn’t deserve much more than he got.

Like I said the biggest thing to take from reading this blog is that Auburn willing to post here are stupid. They are like the Techies, win one in five and suddenly they are superior. Morons.

JAMES you are idiot #1 IF you knew ANYTHING about what a cut block was you’d know the call was a bad call. The lineman that was supposed to be “engaged” with your coward fat boy, was actually trying to pull and get away from him. Farley initiated the “engagement.” The UGA lineman wasn’t even facing him. If was Farley who had his hands on the lineman. The man who cut him was perfectly legal in doing so since he wasn’t “engaged” by another offensive player. Look at the tape moron. Look at it. If they had been trying to hurt hium all it would have taken is one guy to stand him up and the other to take the side of his knee out. It is the only time I have EVER wanted to see someone get hurt intentionally. And frankly I am ashamed of it but that’s not to say he didn’t deserve it.

And Bill why can’t you just say the loss wasn’t on the coaches? Why do you have to put all these “qualifiers” in there? Why don’t you apply for the job next time there is an opening since you are so smart?

But come on the hit to arron murray wasnt fairleys fault, he was being blocked into him. This wasn’t a question of who had the better coach, this was all about cam newton and nobody being able to stop him. Auburn has plenty of playmakers other than cam but he has obviously been the missing piece to the puzzle. Alabamas defense froma year ago would have trouble with this offense so I’m sure this years version of the crimson tide defense will be in trouble. Congrats to Auburn for winning the West. Hopefully the Newton deal with not leave a dark mark on it. I’m still puzzled though, because we had plenty of Bama fans guaranteeing another NC this year. I’m not sure how the math works out for that at this point.

But to a much larger degree congrats to South Carolina and Steve Spurrier. I would prefer my Dawgs win the east every time (or again, hopefully soon) but it always seem to me that the SEC and it’s fans benefit when the torch gets passed around a bit. I know the SC fans have waited a while and they always seemed to be very loyal no matter what. They way he acts, you’d think he was snapping the ball to himself, throwing it 80 yds down field and catching it on the fly for a one-handed TD. He’s as much about the game being a team effort as Steve Spurrier is about group hugs. It’s all by Cam, for Cam and due to Cam. The whole Auburn community should kneel at the feet of Cam because Cam is the god of football.

Auburn . . . or Florida 2010 won because Cam Newton ran right, ran left, and then threw over the top when our defense attempted to stop him. Farley’s late shots and attempt to kill with his shoulder in the gut of our QB was dirty play. If you play dirty, expect the o-line to take some cheap shots at you. Farley also got away with some D-holding (the announcer’s called one grab a great play somehow). I don’t mind the retalitation shots by our o-line but the first cut block was not planned. I’d like to address a few things. 1. How can any of you talk about class/behavior when UGA cleared the bench? That’s against the rules, they should have been tossed for leaving the sideline. 2. The player that was booed, was on his way off the field. Then all of a sudden just dropped, kind of funny that Richt was on his way on the field holding his hand up as if to stop him. Then Richt took the opportunity to go on the field, which he was on the field so much I thought he was another player. The fans were not booing the player, but the stunt that Richt pulled. I’m not going to say much more, if anything, because it’s like talking to a wall. Football is a sport where you are allowed to run as fast as you can and hit someone. There is nothing “clean” about the game (still love watching it). There were four personal fouls penalties on UGA and 4 on Auburn. I’ll leave with this thought, quit acting like UGA was so innocent. Your arguments would be better received if you openly admitted the late hits, chop blocks, emptying of the bench. Just sayin’. Pot meet kettle.

Wes, move back to Ala.

November 14th, 2010

Don’t be mad because you did not get into UGA like the rest of Auburn’s second-class fanbase. Why don’t you move out of Georgia and live in Alabama. If you can play football, someone in Alabama will pay your way back to the hillbilly state– say $180 to $200 gs to move to Auburn to play football. Funny, how Auburn has five to six crappy seasons followed by one great season. 1993 is coming soon for AU again, don’t worry.

Bill I read the first paragraph and I couldn’t read more. your just as ignorant as the rest of the bulldog nation who criticizes play call. I agree with you about the branden smith play call but the screen to the short side of the field is a really good call. The boundary screen is a great call because you can isolate a safety if its two high and it can be man on man. If they go single safety you and they bring a blitz it gets more defenders out of the picture so your blockers have a good opportunity to get numbers and you have a great chance at getting a big play. If it isn’t executed then you wont get anything. Its a very safe play with chances for a great outcome. Bill your an idiot!

For once in 5 years a classless Auburn team with a Cash register for a QB beats a young Georgia Bulldawg team. Is Chiznik guilty as he looks? Maybe he knew nothing about Cecil passing around the offering plate. Surely though if Chiznik had a hand in recruiting Newton he must have known somerthing. He seemed to be applauding Fairley for the late hits on Arron Murray,
Something tells me Murray will come out of this game a lot better than Chiznik and the Newtons.

Would like to CONGRATULATE the DAWGS on the big win yesterday! Cam knew his Dad was selling him (and even if he didn’t it’s still a major violation) and history books will show a W for the DAWGS in 2010. Aaron Murray, AJ, Washaun – great win guys! I love how all the Auburn fans call it something else, like they’ve already done their research and are preparing for the worst. Yeah you better prepare for the worst b/c it’s coming, boy, it is really coming.

And the dirty play yesterday will probably hurt Auburn in the long run. Now you got millions of Dawg fans upset, which could really help drive this thing along. Now you got Dawgfans praying and hoping (and helping) for harm to come to the Auburn football program. And I agree with ESPN commentary during halftime, that the decision by AU to play Newton was a disgrace to college football, plain and simple. It represents everything that is wrong in college football and AU just shrugs it off like it’s nothing.

Basically if I was an AU fan, I’d be hiding under a rock. But wouldn’t you know there’s a few losers on these boards who stick their head up, clueless to what is coming down the pipe and in total denial. Have you idiots bothered to read Barnhart’s latest article?

Bullcrap! I agree that Bobo isn’t to blame, his offense has been cooking since the Tennessee game. But Mark Richt is the head man, responsible for every aspect of the program. His team is 5-6. His team got up by two touchdowns on Auburn, and from that point on was outscored 42-10. No way, even with Cam Newton, that Auburn is that much more talented than Georgia.

If Richt’s not to blame, who is?

We got took to the wood shed on both lines!!! We did get out coached!!! We knew we would have to pull out all the stops to beat them and we as usual did nothing Aggressively!!! We came out aggressive but at the end of the half we went right back to doing what Richt is known to do!!! BE CONSERVATIVE!!! Our best chance to beat anybody is to keep our offense on the field because our defense SUCKS!!! Our defense next year will be NO BETTER because unfortunately either our guys aren’t smart enough to run this 3-4 or Grantham ain’t as he advertises!!! There is always 4 down line men not 3!!! Our lb’s are not up at the line of scrimmage trying to confuse the other teams offensive line or qb by moving around and standing up or faking this person is coming or not!!! That also is coaching by not trying to confuse the offensive line!!! Grantham promised he was going to do this and IT HAS NOT HAPPENED!!! WHY?????? Bill this is coaching blunders and this has happened ALL YEAR!!!! 1 MORE YEAR RICHT AND NO SEC CHAMPIONSHIP AND SEE YA!!!

hey drew,
Fairley had one late hit called on him, but go back and watch the game and you will clearly see Fairley had a lot. the pile drive Murray into the ground, Fairley spear Murray in the back, and Fairley blocked TOWARD (not into) Murray. Fairley clearly stretched his neck out and lead with his helmet into Murray’s knee. Fairley is an athlete and could of easily avoided hitting Murray by not stretching his neck out and slamming his head into Murray’s knee.

If we do not have a big nose in the system now and cannot get one from a JUCO, the 3-4 is not going to work. It takes at least 3 years for a DL coming out of high school to get big and strong enough to play in the SEC. The offense is going to have to out score folks to win the games the next several of years or we need to change to a 4-3. This is what I was afraid of when we hired our DC and he was bringing the 3-4 to town.

Bill, you are classless and out of bounds. Georgia has the talent on the field, but they were beaten by one of the two most prolific offenses in collage football. To call college players (18-22 years old) out by name shows what a redneck you are. I was not aware that rednecks come in a dwarf version, but you are living proof that they do.

And, in typical thUGA fashion, you call for a JUCO player to provide immediate help. Academic standards be darned, you just got to get an immediate fix. It’s not about standing for something, it’s not about student-athletes, it’s not about tipping your cap to one of the best players in college football since Vince Young, you make it about a few young men on Georgia’s team.

This is so typical of UGA fans. Small-minded rednecks whose lives revolve around the highs and lows of 18-22 year old kids. Kids that give it everything they got every weekend.

Here are the facts you little redneck dwarf:

- Cam Newton threaded some great passes to his receivers. The guy has a rocket for an arm.
- Newton’s run/pass threat puts tremendous pressure on safeties.
- Auburn has beaten better teams than UGA tis year. Why does this loss gall you so badly?

Don’t worry, you will beat Tech so you can feel good about yourself, munchkin. But the fact is that you are the epitome of everything that is wrong with UGA. 11 arrests this year, lowly academic standards, accepts Prop 48s, hoping for JUCO players to come replace the kids who are working to learn a new system.

This is exactly why I never hire UGA grads. They are just tainted.

No UGA does not have the players on defense. They have not had them for two years now. Grantham is doing the best with what he has. Hit the JUCO ranks, then better recruiting. It has become very obvious in the college level games that one or two super players make the difference. Where would Auburn be without Newton? Think how much better Meyer at UF would feel if UF had ignored all the problems and kept him. Does Auburn care, absolutely not. Probably 13-0 and going to championship game. If it comes out Newton was paid, no one at Auburn would still care because they were 13-0. Cue the Auburn fans to jump on board and start to scream.

Last year and this year most on these blogs have been blamed the coaching for the poor performances. The truth is that the Dawgs have been putting up enough points most games to win the games, last year and this year. As you say Bill, It is not the offense. And it has not been the coach as much as the inferior player talent. The presumption for many has been that UGA has had excellent recruiting years, but that is just what it is, presumption. The proof has been on the field and the current defensive players are not physically or mentally better than most opponents that they have played. A coach cannot change this fact. I know that it is difficult for people who live in Georgia to grasp but there is very good talent outside the state of Georgia even superior to much of the talent in Georgia. I think the key to turning this around will be in recruiting and that will take more time which most bloggers are unwilling to accept. But it also indicates that we need to overhaul the way we recruit.

Wow, what a bunch of cry babies. We’re going to destroy the dawgs in 2 weeks.
Fairley had one hit where he was a step late, and he was rightfully penalized. The rest were just hard hits. I know you dawgs want your QB to wear a skirt, but getting “driven to the ground” is legal. The helmet to the knee happened when he was getting shoved to the ground, for pete’s sake. You train every DL to keep their momentum driving toward the QB whenever they are being blocked to the ground.
What everybody else but dawg fans saw was Georgia playing dirty. You want to see a dangerous, dirty play, how about those chop blocks? Then Georgia started the fights on the last 2 plays with dirty shots. The whole country saw one sideline stay put, and the other rush out like gang members, looking for a fight because they lost.
We also saw the injured player make it to the sidelines, then get told by the coaches to stay on the field, so they could get their defense a breather. That deserved to be booed, not the injury but the coach making him stay in the field of play when he obviously was about to make it off.
Your team commited the most egregious act of poor sportsmanship in years, when the staff sent the whole team onto the field. Until you get rid of that coach, you have no right to criticize any other team.
We will beat you bunch of pansies by 3 TD’s. I can’t wait to see the excuses, you crybabies.

They love that thugery type player. Alot of coaches go after that big, hard hitting, cheap shot hoodlum. Remember Lyle Alzado? Bill Romanaski? (spelling?) The Oakland Raiders had two defensive players that would bet each other as to who would be the first to put a player out of a game. One wrote a book titled “THEY CALL ME ASSASSIN”. Can’t remember his name, but he hit one of the N.E. Patr. players so hard his neck was broken.(in the 70’s). I agree that Bobo and Richt did not cause us to lose to Auburn, but I could not stop cursing last night when Bobo stupidly placed Branden Smith under Center in the wildcat, when Auburn could not stop our offense.
You mentioned that Grantham has done a good job, but I have to disagree.
At the time when he was introduced he promised that the defense would be aggressive, that he would play an attacking style, but in the second half of this game they all stood around and reacted to Newton. If you are to look back at the game you would see how often Newton got the ball and stood there before he started his run. We have seen several games played by Auburn and should realize that Newton is going to be more than 50% of their offense i.e running the ball, yet he did nothing to counter that. In the first half we were successful when we attacked them albeit there were some drop passes by their receivers.
I will not even mention the name of that Auburn D.tackle who seemed bent on hurting Murray.

I’m not surprised by all the whining from the UGA faithful….unfortunately that’s all they have left to do…and I’ve been a fan of Mark Richt, think he’s a good guy, but last night he was totally out of character….I was at the game and in the FIRST quarter, Auburn had a penalty after a running play, and Mark Richt went 5 yards onto the field, pointed at Cam Newton, then pointed down at the flag, and starting waving his arm to back ‘em up for the penalty yardage….I think he set the tone from the beginning (he seemed desperate last night)….and of all the schools in the country to be talking about no good players, UGA with 13 arrests should probably not be pointing fingers….just stop the whining and accept the beat down you got last night….

It is hilarious to see all the whining, totally expected and typical from the UGA crowd…and if you cry baby’s think that hitting the QB too hard isn’t fair, then go to the ACC or better yet, lobby for a rule change to have the pansy QB wear a green shirt in the game….take the beat down and move on…

AU can’t win clean like everybody else in the SEC. No, they gotta cheat, and play cheaters to win. Newton was not eligible to play in yesterday’s game. Just like Green wasn’t eligible in our first four. We sat Green, you play Newton. Enjoy it while it’s official.

Oh, we’ll enjoy it, believe me….because there’s nothing to it…NCAA cleared him to play on Saturday, otherwise he wouldn’t have played (and Dyer would have had 200 yards to make up for Cam being out)…you guys sat Green because he sold his jersey (Personally I think that was terrible to sit the kid when you could buy 5 different AJ Greene jerseys from the UGA website)….and I’ll give it to you with AJ Green, he’s the best in the SEC and maybe the nation, and everybody in the conference is glad to say adios amigos to the guy….my main point was that Richt seemed totally out of character last night from the opening kickoff….and also your #38 was out of his mind too, from the start….

The “Hurt player” was running off the field until the coaches gave him the “down” sign, at which point he got down on the ground and got a well deserved booing. Cheap way to get a free timeout.
I see you didn’t bother to mention the nice applause Murray received when he had to be helped off the field.

Richt’s players clearly show Saint Mark’s background, they act just like the hoodlums at FSU did while he was there. At any rate, 49-31 is a pretty good whuppin’. See ya’ next year in Athens on Shug Jordan field. Auburn owns the place, you might as well name the field after an Auburn coach.

And after the dirty play dawgfans will be giddy w/ excitement as AU gets hammered. Wow, it is amazing reading all these comments about classless Auburn and dirty play and what am I reading in the way of a solution? Talk about repeated chop blocks and “I’m glad our O-line tried to rough up Fairley”. You prove yourselves to be no better than that which you self-righteously say you hate. You can’t lay last night’s ugliness solely on Auburn – Richt continually came out on the field, continually whined to the officials, including his little show after the second altercation. It was UGA players who cleared the benches, not Auburn players. It was UGA players who played dirty after Fairley was blocked into the QB – Richt’s behavior opened that door, not Chizik’s. And it was Auburn fans singing “Goodbye” to the classlessness of an undisciplined, dirty-playing Georgia team. Goodbye and good riddance. War Eagle, baby.

The truth of the matter is that Georgia got it’s butt kicked and then was bit@h slapped and the indignity is eating them alive.

It was a tough game. Georgia played valiantly — but just doesn’t measure up to SEC standards — and that has to be laid at the feet of the coaching staff.

SEC is smash-mouth football and has no room for whiners.

And, to talk about Auburn thugs — how many Auburn players have been arrested in the past couple of years? I think the total for Georgia is somewhere around 16.

And, again, that lack of discipline is to be laid at the feet of the coaching staff.

Georgia was sent back across the Chattahoochee with it’s tail between it’s legs and needs to man up!

has got a great young quarterback that can take you into a more successful future if you’ll quit whinning like a bunch of school girls.

Bill
You are dead on when you say the problem is the defense but nobody can blame Grantham . Everybody following UGA football knew 3 to 4 years ago that Willie Martinez wasn’t even close to being even a descent defensive coordinator. I don’t care who UGA hired to replace him it will take two or three years for our defense to play good enough for the SEC. Grantham hasn’t even had one recruit he can say that he recruited. The 2011 recruits will be his first.
The blame go’s to our old AD, Evans and CMR. They finally admitted what everybody else knew 3 – 4 years ago that Martinez had to go. We may have six losses this year but nobody has blown us out and we have been in every game we lost. You have to blame Bobo for some of our defenses problems because our offense does have a marque running back that can grind out three or four first down , let Walsh kick a field goal when they don’t score a touchdown and run the clock for five to seven minutes. This keeps your defense fresh. His play calling for the most part after eleven games get no better than a C- or D+, which has caused us to lose time of possession in all of our losses and some of our wins, making for a tired defense.

The SEC washed their hands of Cam Newton which is evident of the last hour meeting with all parties including the NCAA. From great sources the meeting was a chance for the SEC to ensure that no matter what happens Auburn will be responsible for the decisions. Mr Slive wanted that assurance from the NCAA and he wanted it announced through the media, live, during the game.

The thought is through many parties around the program that the NCAA has only scratched the surface in the investigation and thats why so many other schools have chimed up in order to clear themselves. It is very dirty and no one wants the residual affect of this blast.
According to sources Auburn has no choice because Chizik vehemently argued that at this time with recruiting, 11-0, and BCS ranking he was going to play Newton and play the odds. It was a divided group in the Auburn camp as a who;e they knew it was bad and could get a whole lot worse in the following months, especially during the Alabama week.

I will say this , you can take the above and put it in the bank as legit.

Fairley is a cheap shot artist and will get his. I knew that UGA would have a problem with the 3-4 because no one wants to play nose guard unless they are like a Warren Sapp. The NFL can pay guys to play it but a bluechipper can go to any school and not have to worry about having his knees and ankles injured with the double teaming he will be getting on every play.Scrap Grantham and the 3-4. Cash Newton will probably not play next year because if the IRS is now investigating John Bond and preacher Newton’s church it won’t be long.

Bill, suppose we could take a mulligan and redo the entire season with just one change. That change is playing the season with Terry Houge at saftey. Think about it, game by game, and what would the revised season look like?

I think there are serious foundation issues with our program and Coach Richt must address these. But how much better would we have been with good safety play throughout the season? Think about how many points were either scored or set up by blown coverages and missed tackles from that position. Now I don’t know if its the scheme, coaching, inferior talent or player attitude but I think if we can fix that position we’re at least 4 games better off.

The ‘ol ball coach pretty much summed things up after winning the SEC East Saturday. In the locker room he said,”… nobody dropped a ball and no one did anything stupid … and we won.”

I tend to agree with Savannahdawg. We don’t have the prototypical NG that we need, but we have not had the DB’s to compete with in a long time. 4-3, 3-4, you have to cover somebody.

As far as not seeing any improvement next year? That doesn’t even make sense to say. May not be the championship caliber, but NO WAY a defense does not improve in it’s second year. We win at least 2 more game early this year if these same guys were in thier second year. It was very clear they just didn’t know what to do at full speed. We might reach a point next year where we run up against much better talent and lose the game, but we aren’t going to see guys standing around asking each other who is supposed to be doing what.

Let’s not forget that this was also the first year giving instruction in the 3-4 for some of the new coaches. Not sure how big of a deal that it’s not going to be Grantham first year running a bunch of college boys, but at least its not going to be that on top of everythign else.

Actually considering we didn’t have a single All-SEC selection going in , and everybody is basically learning, they really haven’t done that bad.

Ogletree was often the “spy” to Newton, yet he continually took himself out of the play. Hamilton was a bust. Georgia has no where to turn for next season except to the Juco route for Safeties and Nose Tackles.

We also lose Dent at LB, Gamble and likely Houston. Wow there is nothing left on the Defensive side of the ball. It will be a long season next year.

Auburn fans need to know something about UGA fans

November 15th, 2010

You see it is this way:

#1. They have been asleep for 30 years.
#2. They love every player who considers playing for UGA.
#3. They hate every player who decides not to play for UGA.
#4. They love and think Richt is the greatest coach in the US.
#5. They evidently don’t hold Richt responsible for hiring poor assistant coaches.
#6. They complain more about officiating more than the rest of the SEC fan bases combined.
#7. Every year they believe UGA is the preseason #1 team.
#7. They think Erk Russell was the best D-coordinator in the history of football.
#8. They still think Jan Kemp was the villain and Dooley was a saint.
#9. They think that ESPN and the BCS hates UGA.
#10. If any commentator says anything wrong about UGA, they think that they are biased, because after all UGA is the #1 NCAA football program of all time.
#11. They think Mark May hates them (well maybe this one is true).
#12. They think they have the most beautiful women (probably true also).
#13. They think that Spurrier hates them, not true (he does not respect them).
#14. They believe that Richt is the greatest coach in the SEC. Not true, he comes after Saban, Spurrier, Miles, Meyer and Mullen.
#15. Before even seeing Grantham coach, they believed that he was the second coming of Erk.
#16. Kirby is a traitor.

JB – I would be the first to admit that Fairley has had some questionable hits, but it is not up to the offensive line of Georgia to levee punishment. If the officials don’t flag a play then the coaches should take it up with the SEC. If the NCAA wants to change the rules then change them, but until then this is still football and it is a contact sport.

Bill,

Stop your whining already. In watching the replay last night, had to note that the Dawgs were the first to be penalized for several personal fouls early in the first half and the announcers commented that Georgia’s aggressive play was being fueled by Richt’s “animation” on the sidelines. And let’s not forget before we talk too much about Auburn’s playing rough that it was UGA and Richt who pulled the famous charge the field stunt that almost resulted in a brawl in the UGA-Fla game a few years back. That said, Nick Fairley did add fuel to the fire with some of his hits, but it should be noted that other than the one roughing penalty, no other penalties were called. Until the SEC or NCAA addresses the issue of body slamming quarterbacks as has the NFL, (and they need to do it soon) such hits are legal in college football. The Fairley hit on Murray that ignited the near-brawl was actually not the worst of the day and on the replay it appears Fairley was blocked (for one of the few times all day) into the quarterback. It was the Dawgs who retaliated from there and then made things worse by rushing off the sideline. To be honest, there was plenty of guilt to go around. All that said, fans on both sides should expect better from both players and coaches. The Auburn-Georgia game has always been a special and generally civil rivalry and it will continue to be once the emotions die down.

Our line is substandard, I truly don’t think it’s the kid’s fault, they are a talented bunch. I think Searles is not putting them in a good position to jell by starting a different crew every week, and moving them around to different positions constantly. Our running backs are vastly, and I mean vastly overrated. Caleb or Washaun would only be able to start for maybe 5 or 6 teams in the SEC. I know they would be helped by having room to run, but a great back, i.e. Moreno, gets yards whether he has huge holes or not.
Defensively, Rambo has not been the same since having his lights turned out against Auburn last year. I can’t really fault the kid, being knocked out on the field is hard to get over. Watching him run alongside Newton from the five yard line to the end zone on Auburn’s first touchdown is hard to get over, as well. No nose tackle worth his JUCO salt is coming to Georgia when there are other, more productive teams out there to play with. Perhaps Bean Anderson can stay healthy. He is a perfect body type to play the spot. I just truly worry what our O is going to do next year with no AJ.
And, ONCE AGAIN, the excuse coming out of spring ball will be ;our O line is awfully young’. This happens every couple of years, and the coaches seem unable to prepare for it. I like CMR, big fan, but his staff seems overwhelmed at times. Perhaps we’re just on a bad run of luck, but I really think his leash has got to be tightened to the ‘one more year’ point. Bottom line is you can’t pay a coach 2.5 -3 mil a year and go 6-6 for very long.

It’s been hurting us all season”….especially in the secondary, where Georgia’s safety play has been consistently poor…Dogs defenders seemed to completely forget that Newton also can throw the ball. He ended up completing 12 of 15 passes (80 percent)…”

It was a great win for my Auburn team on Saturday, however, what has been lost has been the play of Aaron Murray. I would be excited as a Dawg knowing this talented QB will be around for at least a few good years, he’s probably the best young QB in the NCAA for years to come; I think the Dawg defense will be much better next year; both GT and UGA have new defensive systems that will take some some to implement, we’ll see.

Bill great article , from the pre game announcement that Cam was starting and the Barners gleeful reaction the mood was set. Cam a great player and from his playing to the crowd to his play on the field he was just superb. Cam is not the reason so many UGA fans are so p.o’d about this game, in the end we lost to a better all around team, its the again classless way the rest of the Auburn team and coaches played..hell Cam was a model opponent compared to his coach. That being said I hope the kid is clean and Auburn gets to keep this years record intact winning record intact..they have sold their souls to get it. 1. 2001, UGA jumping on the “T” in the middle of Neyland Stadium after win.
2. The classless Larry Munson talking about putting a nail through the throat of Tennessee players after the game.
3. UGA players doing the “Souja Boy” dance throughout the entire third quarter against Auburn a couple of years ago.
4. The endzone celebration against Florida in 2007
5. Mocking Hawaii’s dance in the Sugar Bowl.
6. Knowsheon popping up and strutting every time he had a three yard run.

Yeah Bill; Richt and his UGA boy’s have always shown a lot of class to their opponents.

jcatl sorry that dog won’t hunt..he has his players back I got that and I fully agree he should. Allowing that “player” to strut around the field acting the way he was a direct challenge to a group of proud young men, that no one got hurt was more luck than design. There was a lot of sympathy for Auburn’s stance on Cam among the UGA nation prior to this game I’m afraid a lot of that has dissipated along with our respect for the Auburn program in general, Auburn has adopted a “us against the world” attitude due to this issue…and the actions of a few coaches and players Saturday has moved that closer to the truth.

dixiedawg

I personally think the SEC commissioner should be looking more closely at #90–Fairley and his over aggressiveness. The block he gave Murray in the back would get him thrown out of the game and suspended for most of the season if he did it in the NFL. Why is he getting away with it in college football? Those kind of hits can end a career in a hurry and possible even paralyze the player. I have watched Auburn all year (my husband is a big Auburn Fan) and have seen this over and over from Fairley. His late hits have been called rarely but they are happening almost every play. I have pulled for Auburn when they aren’t playing MY DAWGS but not anymore while Fairley is on the team.
I think Coach Bobo and Rich did an excellent job. I don’t believe either got out coached by Auburn’s coach. If our defense played half as good we would have a winning season. I know we have a new coach–very high paid one at that. We expect to be on top immediately but as we have seen this year it may take another year or so for Georgia to become Defensive Powerhouses. Hopefully we will get some big defensive guys to sign with Georgia for next year.

I can assure AU trolls that if GA had a #90 who kept driving their Heisman candidate QB into the ground taking 2-3 steps after he released the ball before hitting him, then they would be crying bloody murder on their blog site too (if they even have one). Don’t pretend you wouldn’t. Geesh!!

Grantham missed an excellent opportunity to instill confidence in GA fans that his 3-4 scheme will oneday work but for whatever reasons he couldn’t pull it off. Maybe it was the players, maybe it’s the scheme, I don’t guess it’s Granthams fault when AU receivers are wide open or is it? But it did seem like there was no one within 5 yards of Cam Newton whenever he wanted to run. Couldn’t defend the pass or the run, makes for a long day. Great athlete admittedly but the worse part was that he smiled on every play, never was hit hard or worried at any point.(Invincible)He dictated all day.

Hey Bill…Maybe you should tell the WHOLE story.

About the player being injured and Auburn fans booing. We booed becuse it was obvious the injured player was going to make it to the sideline to be attended to. The Georgia coaches were on the field screaming at the player to get down to delay the game. We never want to see a plyer injured and the whole crowd clapped several times when Georgia players were injured and got up. But this was a obvious attempt to slow down the game and stop the fast paced offense. Also note that this was done in thew LSU game also.

The late hit on Aaron Murray in the 3rd Q was obvious a late hit and the flag was justified. BUT…lets talk abou the ejections and what led up to that. How about the chop block early in the game and the other two that were missed all against Nick Fairly. Also please look at around the 13:30 mark in the 3rd Q and the kidney shot Cam takes. Also look why Mike Blanc threw hi punch…Look at what happened to Nick Fairly on the play. Just saying PLEASE tell the whole story!!!

Yeah, that’s right. He was hobbling off the field until the coaches waved emphatically for him to lay down.

Bacarri should be required to change his name back to Fudd the way he has been playing this year. You have to earn the name Rambo, son, and you clearly have not done it.

I agree, Bill, that the problem this year has not been the schemes on defense (really offense either). Our players (especially on both lines and the safeties) seem slower and weaker than every team we play. Hell, I would trade our O-Line with any team we have played (including the Ragin Cajuns and ID ST). They are pathetic.

UGA fans are by far the worst in the entire SEC. I have been to every Auburn home game this entire year and there are none remolely close to as terrible as Georgia. Georgia fans need to learn to learn to cheer FOR THEIR TEAM not just against the opponent. In Auburn we stand behind our team and cheer for them relentlessly. All UGA fans do run their mouth, all game long instead of cheering their defense on on big 3rd downs, they talk trash about Auburn. Maybe that has something to do with the loss. Poor fair weather fan base. Unreal.

If we had late hit and cheap shot Cam or other Auburn players the Auburn fans could and should raise hell at us. The chop block penalty on us was called correctly…multiple late hits and cheap shots on our QB were not…we could not stop Cam and the Auburn offense in the second half I can live with that…that Fairley is still walking around is hard to swallow…you remember how we used to deal with his type of antics “back in the day”. I totally agree with the defense being the key issue this year. 31 points should win most games. However, I remember just shy of a year ago when Willie was fired everyone was so happy. Most people including the UGA fans on here, agreed that with a new DC and a totally revamped defensive scheme that it would take a couple years to get it going. Ye of small memories and minds!! Good grief do you really expect to get a new DC, change the entire scheme around, don’t even have the right players in place for this defense and win every game!! Come on! Be realistic!
I hate the fact that we have lost 6 this year, but at the same time I even said at the beginning of the year that the defense would be very weak. Let TG get his players that he needs for the defense and I promise you it will be a great defense. He needs more than a year. You WILL see improvement next year over this year.
Most of you idiots(a.k.a. so called fans) want CMR to wave a magic wand and everything will be great. There was a major change in the offseason. It takes time. Ask Florida! they have lost 4 games. They have had major changes. I just don’t hear them whining as much as my so-called fellow Dawgs!

Man, Let’s just beat the snot out of tech. Play and win our bowl and get out of it a 7 win season. Yes below standards for UGA, but deal with it! This will be worth it starting next year. BTW, CMR is the right coach for us right now.

Our defensive stats have improved considerably this year, so we’re moving in the right direction. We defensed Auburn better than LSU did- the reason that game was close was field position- LSU’s punting game kept Auburn backed up so they had to go a long way to score. After seeing Newton have a banner day against LSU’s defense, I was highly concerned that we couldn’t stop them. We did pretty well in the first half, but when they tied it up by halftime, it was clear our only chance was to match them score for score. The loss to Florida is what we’ll remember, regardless of the Tech game. We can only hope Georgia finds both a play maker to replace AJ and that big JUCO noseguard BIll mentioned. The right defensive guy might like the idea of playing a 3-4 in college.

Agree, defense is not SEC quality, Rambo in particular has been horrible, with the exception of Houston, schemes are not the problem. Been going in this direction since ‘05. Got to get more talent, primarily on defense or this trend is not going to change, just get worse. However, biggest disappointment IMO this yr. is the offensive line because they were supposed to be one to the 2/3 best in the country and haven’t been close to that when you look at the whole season. They have the talent, just haven’t played to their potential, not even close, big disappointment. Defense is just not good enough, talent wise.

Can’t believe you bunch of Georgia rednecks say Auburn is classless. Georgia used to my my 2nd favorite team but Richt began letting the inmates run the asylum several years ago. Remember the Florida debacle? What about the blackout against Auburn several years ago where the entire Georgia sideline was soldja boying. Talk about classless!!

From the beginning of Saturday’s game, the Georgia thugs were provoking Auburn with their trash talking and dirty play. That’s not Auburn’s style, but you consistenly see it with Georgia. The Dogs go what they deserved…a physical ass kicking. Richt recruits punks and and he’s week on discipline. That’s a recipe for disaster and it’s catching up with him. Chizik appologized and was embarassed about the near brawl. Richt has said nothing and his bunch of thugs provoked the Auburn players the entire game.

What’s really sad is that the Georgia administration and fans have not been completely embarrassed by the actions of the football team over the past few years. Your football team is not only contributing to, but also encouraging the contiuing decline of morality and sportsmanship in sports.

Buck Belue had it right in his column yesterday. We simply DO NOT have the players on defense we need to be competitive in the SEC. From an undersized and weak DL, to three linebackers that have no business playing first string for UGA (Christian Robinson, Daryl Gamble and Marcus Dowtin). Don’t even get me started on our safeties. Bacarri Rambo is a waste by-product that loafs, is mentally weak and can’t tackle. Brandon Boykin, Akeem Dent and Alex Ogeltree are the only decent players we have. Brandon Smith is very good, but he’s not in there all the time.

On the offensive side of the ball we’ve got guys that just aren’t strong enough to compete at the top level of the SEC including Clint Boling, Josh Davis and Chris Davis. Boling and Davis got whipped on Saturday and even Jones had a hard time dealing with AU’s DL.

It’s simple, we need to stop recruiting finese and speed guys alone and start inking corn fed hawgs that curl tractors for fun. We’ve got to recruit guys who are mentally tough and not more Bacarri Rambo’s, Vance Cuffs and Jordon Love’s.

FWIW – The statistics are there for all to see. Grantham has done a great job with Willie’s players. This defense is much better than last years, we just need to get rid of the bad seeds and figure out a way to stop people on 3rd down. That’s one area that hasn’t improved under Grantham.

@Dawgbyte,

You are dead on about the type of players currently on the defense. They are weak and can not stick to simple assignment football. Grantham and Lakatos simply don’t have much to work with right now, and that blame can be layed squarely at Richt’s door. He needs to change his recruiting philospy, and dump Garner. That is if McGarity doesn’t can his butt in 2 weeks. It could happen.

If the long pass to Fannin (that went through his arms) had been caught and the pass that bounced off the shoulder of the receiver and fell to a (not surprisingly) out of position Bacarri Fudd (I will use his birth name until her earns the name Rambo), the score would have been 21-14 Auburn after the first quarter and would have been a blowout by halftime. I’ll start off saying this, Georgia has it’s own problems that have to be corrected and corrected quickly. The lack of discipline and structure have slowly been the demise of this team. However, UGA continues to recruit to athletes. All that being said Auburn doesn’t have a leg to stand own. Let the record show that Auburn DID have the best team in 2004 and got the ultimate shun when it came to the BCS Title game and the Title itself. In 2004 had it been any other team in the SEC like Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia or LSU, those team would have been in the title game and thus crowned National Champion. Read the SI article about Bobby Lowder and let the rest speak for itself. There is a lack of respect in CF towards Auburn – PERIOD.

Auburn ran off Terry Bowden because he didn’t conform to the regime. They were Pat Dye’s recruits but he still took the undefeated. Chizik will most likely go undefeated, but aren’t most of these kids Tubberville’s recruits? He took Auburn undefeated and would have won a NC had it not been for the lack of respect from the establishment of College Football. Tubberville was 85-40 while at Auburn garnering a 68% which isn’t far from Pat Dye’s 99-39 or 71% winning percentage.

The way Auburn treats their coaches, JET GATE, ERIC RAMSEY, Porter and now possibly CN

Finally, the Auburn family better hope nothing comes of the CN story.

Just think about it.

beginning of the end of the Southwest Conference. No more IRON BOWL. Would you like to pay a hated Auburn or a loved Savannah State.

Our defense just plain suks. Those guys would have a hard time stopping any div 1 program. Back in the old days we had some mean dusdes on defenese, meat cleaver Eddie Weaver, DA MAN Goldberg, Scott Woerner,Terry Hoage, Jeff sanchez, Champ bailey and a host of others. How come we ain’t getting those types any more. Goldberg would have delivered a few bone crushing hits on Cam for sure. Hopefullky Todd will broaden our defensive recruiting base like Dooley did and go get some Texas / Oklahoma boys like Dooley/ Russell did. we were horrible on defense!!

UGA got beat because they gave up 49 points to a better team…that’s awful…the worst part was watching the cheap shots and poor sportsmanship from Auburn…I mean how many times did Cam lay motionless on the field and the then pop up smiling…was he faking an injury? I don’t even know what that was…or the punch/smack instead of a stiff-arm move. One would hope for more class and humility from someone blessed with an 11-0 season, Heisman trophy aspirations, and adoring fans….but then we are talking about a common thief that stole a computer and tossed it out a window…I have no doubt Cam will be addicted to crack or in prison within 10 years….thug.

1. CMR played it correctly at the end of the game. He showed class.
2. Rambo is overrated, should be called bimbo.
3. Our qb Murray is talented, brave, and determined.
4. Chitzik and his clan are a bunch of thugs.
5. Auburn #90 should be suspended indefinitely by the SEC.

I can’t believe some of the stuff people actually put in writing on the blog. Amazing. The fans were not booing because the UGA player was hurt. They were booing because he was coming off the field on his own when the UGA coaches told him to turn around and stay out there and lay down. I’m concerned what kind of person would do that and what that player’s family was thinking about the actions of the coaches. Terrible.

Did anyone else hear the TV announcer say that “Not calling personal fouls is why things like this happen” after the Georgia O-line tackled Fairley. Officiating this year has sucked and not just in the SEC. And, yes, I did hear the announcer say that the UGA coaches were telling the kid to stay down. Sad to say it, but it seems “sportsmanship” is an antiquated term, too. College football used to be fun and I enjoyed all the rivalries, even rooting for Florida, Auburn, other SEC teams as long as they were playing someone besides UGA. Now, it’s just ugly and thats too bad. One last thing, is anyone else SICK AND TIRED OF THE “UNANSWERED POINTS” catch phrase? God Help us, please! And its always used when the team that was DOWN by 10, 14, 17, 24, pick a number, managed to score some points. You NEVER hear it used when a team is up 10, 14, 17, 24, pick a number to 0. Example: UGA 21 – Auburn 7 – no mention of “14 unanswered points by Georgia.” Auburn ties score – “Thats 14 unanswered points by Auburn.” Thats just my example, same thing happend in the Texas A&M – Baylor game, or any other game. OK, I’m off my soapbox. God Bless America!

Enjoy this year while you can Auburn punks. Your 1-year mercenary QB will be gone soon and you’ll be back to normal. If they didn’t already know it, everyone in the country saw how classless your program is last Saturday (from the Head Coach on down, not to mention the “Bobby Lowders” associated with your program over the years). All your wins this year may be a moot point anyway once the NCAA finishes its investigation. Good luck.

First: the Death Penalty is off the table. Be smart: the NCAA has already said they’d never do that again, and why in the heck would they kill the cash cow that is SEC Football???

Second: Fairley was repeatedly hitting Murray after he released the ball and DRIVING HIM INTO THE GROUND several times, including a couple in the first quarter (before the chop block, if you’re keeping track). That is an attempt to injure, and is ‘dirty’. There’s no defense. And this isn’t an opinion of just the UGA fans: National pundits covered it as well. That he wasn’t taken aside and told to stop by his coaches is why Auburn is pretty much universally loathed by Georgia fans today.

Third: I didn’t see the coach pointing to the ground, and even if I did, I would guess that he was telling the kid to not take a chance and let the trainers check it out. The fact is that- at that point- the extra time wasn’t going to help UGA anyway, so the AU fans booing was classless and ludicrous.

Fourth: Cam Newton clearly has a sense of entitlement, the way he consistently celebrated with the crowd rather than his teammates.

It just was a really ugly, classless performance by Auburn, and given that the FBI is now investigating the Cam Newton situation, I don’t think this ends well for Auburn. Kind of sad to me at least, because I literally almost went to Auburn instead of Georgia…

Georgia is not playing the way we feel like they should this year! They didn’t play well last year either! Why can’t we get the talent to come to Ga.? I think high school players are learning things about the Ga. coaches, and are going to schools where they can expect to be coached up and learn how to play better ball! These coaches have reached the limits of their potential!! Time to clean house and start over! The Richt era is coming to an end! All his recruiting flops have been on public view for several years now! An occasional blue-chipper will do well, but overall, prospects have been rather dim lately!

I re-watched the game today. Fairly needs to be punished, and I think Chizik will do just that. The first play of the game, if you remember, was a personal foul against GA. The game was dirty on both sides. The knock on Murray’s leg was an accident and that injury angered a frustrated O-line that was basically getting blown off the line for the entire second half. I agree AU looked dirty in that game, but I have watched them all season and I think the dirty dawgs brought it out in them. You guys are the king of dirt, stomping on Florida’s symbol a few years ago, always talking trash. This is football after all, so some players do play rough. I suggest that instead of being mad at the AU defense for hurting your QB, perhaps you recruit some men to block for him. Then maybe you can beat the likes of Colorado and not be 5-6. WDE

It is tough to beat the best team money can buy. However, this win, along with all the others this season will be vacated when the NCAA is finished confirming that Cecil Newton actually did ask for money. The real question is just how much was really paid. I will say it was a brilliant move to play a player after being notified before the game there were eligibility issues. I’m sure that will gain a lot of favor from the NCAA enforcement guys. Of course, without Cam, they lose anyway, but at least they would show some good faith in handling the situation. As it is, they have demonstrated bad faith. Winning is obviously more important than doing the right thing. The penalties could be pretty gruesome when this is all finished with. Maybe CGC can get a job in the NFL – maybe as head coach at Seattle. After these forfeitures are on the books, his record at Iowa State may not look so bad.

Actually I feel bad for the many friends and relatives of mine who are Auburn grads and fans. They are good folks. None of them is happy about any of this. They’ve expressed embarrassment, especially about the school’s decision to play Cam even after being told he might be ineligible. Several have let me know how bad they feel about how dirty Fairly played. I’ve told them he is not representative of Auburn, but CGC needs to take action to correct such behavior. He needs to condemn it it no uncertain terms. One of my best friends ever played linebacker for Auburn for Coach Jordan (a fine man) and tells me Shug would have not put up with that crap. I sadly told my friend since childhood, “Well, I’m not expecting any such action from your current coach.” I sincerely hope I’m wrong.

Kevin – I hope you are right about your coach doing the right thing. That will surprise me based on his apparent approval by letting Fairley continue to play after a clear cheap shot designed to intentionally injure another player. Also, I must say it is pretty weak, not to mention uncalled for, to blame your team”s dirty play on the other team. No one else has tried to intentionally injure any of our players this year. The guys in the national media have certainly made it clear how inappropriate Fairley’s hit in the back of Murray with his helmet was. I don’t expect gutless Slive to do anything. Therefore, the only way Fairley gets appropriately punished is for CGC to do what needs to be done. To date, he has not indicated he has the wherewith-all to do that, but maybe you are right.

As for our obviously poor record, what do you think your record would be without Cam? CMR did not play AJ when told their were eligibility issues. I think our record would be much better if he had played those 4 games. I assume you get my point.

Again, I hope this all works out for Auburn. I also hope CGC steps up and does the right thing. You seem to think he will, I hope you are right.

Bill, I think Richt & Bobo did get outcoached. The evidence: 50 sec left in the first half – You’ve got the best receiver in college football, The best field goal kicker in the SEC, facing the worst secondary in the SEC in a game that you knew every point was important and you run out the clock. Then, Auburn takes the ball our of your hands to open the second half with an on-side kick. That’s two possessions you squandered. I call that being out coached!

Bill, you are a pathetic, whining, crybaby Georgia fan. With regards to the booing…. the player was not being booed. The Georgia coaches were. The injured player was walking off the field on his own accord when the Georgia coaches motioned for him to lay down for an injury time out 5 yards from the sideline. Just so happened that he was in front of the Auburn student section. The entire stadium saw it and reacted to it. Georgia players were called for personal fouls numerous times, including late hits. Fairley was blocked into Murray but UGA whiny losers will never admit that. GA players decided to pound his face into the ground, which resulted in the altercation. Not to mention the UGA fan who set fire to Toomers Corner. Gee, my fingers feel dirty just typing UGA.

Lost any respect for Fairley during the LSU game. Researched Fairley. Found this snipet. Thought you Dawgs would ‘enoy’ a peek into the mind of Fairley :

>>> There was the Fairley and Bynes sack of Lee in the first half, the piledriver Fairley put on Lee on an incompletion that sent the LSU signal-caller to the sidelines for a couple of series and the two times the Auburn junior got to Jefferson in the backfield.

The most emphatic hit of the day didn’t even count, when Fairley peeled off the guard, tracked Jefferson down and lit him up. A full two seconds after the whistle blew for an LSU procedure penalty.

“Coach Rocker asked me, ‘Why you always trying to slam the quarterback?’ Fairley said. “And I was like, ‘When you’re in a fight with somebody and you slam them, you take the heart out of them.’”

Or, to put it more simply: “I did all this work, I got to hit you. You know?”

So Chizik was the cause of the brawl now? Funny because I remember Auburn staying on the sidelines when the game got nasty but I seem to recall almost all of the Georgia players being on the field where was the so saintly Richt then? Thats right he was on the field screaming with the rest of the UGA trash. You should go back and watch what started the brawl before you stating how perfect Georgia players are, if you watch you will see #3 coming at Fairly HELMET FIRST at knee level while Nick was engaged with a lineman. You do also remember the chop block on Fairley earlier in the game right?

The play where Nick hit Murray in the back was bad and deserved a penalty, the play where Murray got hurt happens 15 times in a football game. Nick was falling and never make a move to grab Murray it was bad luck and nothing more.

I agree that the offense in last saturday’s defeat performed quite well. But Aaron Murray needs to get that screen play down better. Under throwing and over throwing backs coming from the backfield was something a 5th grader does. Need to work on that better Murray. Why didnt Bobo double team Fairley more or make adjustments after the half?
Still think no matter what Bobo needs to go, even if we do good i still think his inexperience hurts Georgia. Georgia gets all that talent and Bobo never seems to know how to utilize it. We look great with weaker teams but the real good ones we seem to stumble.
I tell you Georgia had alot better talent against Auburn but they had a spectacular athlete Cam Newton and he made the difference.
Im not sure how i would have played them even if you put linebackers on him and defensive ends it seemed he still found a way to get around them with his deceptive speed. I saw several plays where the Defensive Ends got sucked into the play and they went around them on reverses and mis direction plays.
Todd Grantham im sure yelled at them to stay put and contain the ends but when they were containing the defensive ends would rush too far up field and Cam Newton would hit the gap for lots of yards.
Grantham seeing this should have blitzed the Cornerbacks and had one-on-one coverage to pressure Newton. He ran what 40-50 times? They ran off the ends and on the right guard and tackle slots. Mostly 3 areas they seem to favor alot.
Players on Defense havedone this all year not lining up or being in the right spot for coverage. It shows that alot of the players are not used to Granthams system yet so hopefully next season the players will be better acclimated but i still think it will take 2 more years to know if we have a good defense or a bad one.

Todd Grantham pulling those corners back 20 yards is like giving a team 1st downs and eating up yards. Todd why do u do that? Ogletree and Vance Cuff are terrible at coverage and you should know that and make adjustments.
Put Branden Smith on one on one coverage and double team. I hate the zone coverage, those guys go back 10-15 yards and you know the QB is gonna throw underneath. When the other teams hike the ball and their tight end and RB come out on the flats why dont you let the LB’s cross on the play?
This may result in an interception or an immediate tackle with a few yards gained. Plus coming across and putting a hard hit might make that player think twice about catching a pass the next time.
We know that their gonna dump the ball for short gains because these are high percentage plays and you dont have to do this every play, just mix it up.
Dont do the usual usual coverage……….. go 5 instead of 10 yards, go 12 instead of 15. Play up and jam the wideouts before they take off to disrupt or delay the pattern.
Oh yeah this off season you guys need to find a RB more like Moreno Herschel Walker type because Washaun is too timid running. Richt came from a passing team Florida State and Bobo was a QB and they both like to pass the ball instead of running.

Bobo's A Duldo

Its pretty simple. The db’s need to block the recievers at the line of scrimmage and it will throw off the timing of every pass play. Why they line up 10 yards off them is a mystery to me. Why give a receiver 10 yards to juke you ? Just line up and tie him up at the line of scrimmage for 3 seconds and the pocket will collapse on the qb.

Re-watched the game. I do agree that even though he’s opened it up alittle Bobo has to go, but as long as Richt is coaching he stays. Sorry but thats the style of offense Richt wants to run. Bobo is mearly a reflection of him. As far as the defense goes, I dont care what Grantham dials up, with the secondary we have and the lack of size up front theres nothing he can do. Stopping the run starts up front, remember we lost 3 of the best d-lineman in the game last year to the pros. Had we had those guys this year I think things would have been alot different. As far as the secondary goes, lets face it, other than Ogletree there’s no-one back there. Rambo and Cuff are beyond sub-par when it comes to coverage. Both are continuesly out of postion, basically the entire secondary looks lost. I would venture to say that if we had anyone any better they would be back there but we don’t. This is a result of recruiting and evaluating talent or lack there of I should say. Remember when CMR was winning we had some of the best defenses in the SEC. He could run his conservative offense and depend on his defense for stops. Now its still the same conservative offensive game plan but he doesnt have the defense to bail him out. We’ll see how he handles it this spring, but another year of this and he’ll be gone…

Eventhough we played exceptionally well til the 4th quarter, it was fun to watch and i was real sorry to see the questionable hit on Murray and the scuffles toward the end of the game.
At the end of the day its just a football game thats entertaining and not the end of the world. We’re really lucky to be able to watch sports on T.V cause alot of countries dont.
We get very emotional with these games and call one another names and personally attack each ones characters but in the end we’re all American’s that loves our country and our sports and we should remember that these are our neighbors and friends that are good decent people that may not see our point of view but share the same emotions about their teams that sometimes gets out of hand.
These are kids that are going to college to better theirselves and enrich their lives and make a difference in society.
Kids that are blessed to be able to go to college and be great at a sport that will continue til they graduate.
I believe that most of the people here are very passionate about their college football and say things that may be true or untrue trying to convince others that their right and everyone else is wrong. Auburn fans deserve to be proud of what they’ve accomplished this season 11-0, Being a Georgia Fan i can only say that we’re frustrated by the occurences of going 5-6 and so we have alot of resentment built up inside and come here to vent or protect the feelings we have inside with Georgia.
I think Auburn fan’s would be the same way if the shoe was on the other foot but still isnt an excuse to blatantly call names and get personal here.
Im not proud of Auburn, how can i be im a Dawg Fan. But i can be respectful and use talking points and express my point of view but at the end of the day we’re all Americans and neighbors and sports fans.
Just wanted to say that to all the Auburn Fans. Good luck and hope all your players stay healthy so that maybe you can win a national championship,
GO SEC!!!!!

Dumb article. Of course Richt is to blame for a lackluster defense…he’s the head coach and he recruited ‘em. As far as the offense….it has its share of the blame due to its “big play” philosophy versus that of ball control, time management and keeping the other teams’ offense off the field, 3 items most Richt teams have not excelled at….

Rambo got a personal foul on the first play of the game. I was at the game and have watched it 2 times on tv. Fairley made one bad late hit and got a flag. The other hit couild have gone either way but fairley was choped block 3 times and only called for it one time. Ga had 5 personal fouls in that game. Also number 2 had two personal fouls in one drive. The fans were booing because that player was going off the field and was almost to the sideline when they told him to lay down. I saw it with my own eyes.

I laugh at the Auburn fans on this blog trying to defend their coaches and players actions during the game Saturday. When’s the last time youv’e seen a head coach of a major university chest bump a player after he’s caused injury to an opponent? Chizik showed his true colors Saturday. He’s got a good team but they are out of control……I wonder if Shug Jordan ever chest bumped one of his players?….I don’t think so. I guess when your winning you can turn a blind eye on things like character, and sportsmanship…and also except cheaters and felons. Auburn and it’s fans are living a lie and 90% of them know it…they just don’t want to admit it….when you haven’t won anything in a while you’ll grab at anything to build yourself up….Newton will get his money from the NFL and fit in well with Mike Vick and Randy Moss….and Auburn…they’ll be left holding the bag after the SEC and NCAA strip them of all the games that Newton played in…..and Cecil Newton will still be laughing behind their back…all the way to the bank…Sad……Very Sad!

Nose Guard

November 16th, 2010
11:10 am

UGA clearly lacks a nose guard of the type that Alabama had last year with Cody. We need a huge mountain of a man that can handle two O linemen and thusly, allowing our line backers to come in and hit the slot and make plays. THIS is one huge reason that UGA has lost 6 games this year. SC ran it up the middle all day long in UGA and so did Colorado. We need to get two from JUCO land.

Overall ……….the UGA D did play somewhat better on D this year. I am very, very worried about Justin Houston’s comments that “some of the defenders lack focus”. THAT is a problem and I wonder about their overall football IQ.

Go Dogs.

UGA 45-20 if AM plays.

We are a mediocre team with mediocre coaching. Changes need to be made sooner rather than later. Why should Richt get a free pass because of what he did his first five years???? I just don’t get it.

Over his last five years, he has a worst SEC record than Donnan. Something’s gotta give, and I for one don’t feel like suffereing through another dismal year before changes are made. We may not have lost this game because of terrible coaching but what about the other 5 Bill?????

Bobo’s A Duldo: I agree with you COMPLETELY-there was absolutely NO excuse for blowing a 21-7 lead. The defense is an absolute JOKE! While I realize it’s a new system, and they’re getting somewhat more acclaimated to it, but it seemed like once they got a comfortable lead, they abandoned the defensive schemes that were working sucessfully. The 2nd quarter is way too early to play passive defense, especially against an offense that can score almost at will!

Yeah, the UGA players raised some dumb ass H– this past summer and two or three got gonefrom UGA for pinching gals, slapping gals and what ever else that they did. They paid for it and it hurt UGA this year. 6-6 we will be. OH well …………

At AU, however, and currently talking to MSU is the ……………..FBI. ALL ………ALL of the tv networks as well as local Atlanta TV WSB are mentioning that they first plan to interview John Bond, the former ( 80s) QB from MSU and his meeting with that shady Kenny Rogers. Then, they will interview AU and their players. AU…………are y’all proud still?? Hmmmmmmmm??

Remember, Daddy Newton has admitted hawking his son’s football prowess for $, question is whom else did he try to sell him to. THAT is why the FBI is involved because of the bigger implications of such trash.

Where Richt is to blame is the lack of NFL-calibre players on his defense and on the team in general. If you go back to 2002 – 2004, there were 10 – 12 NFL draftees on the team at all times, including first rounders. Now we have Green and Houston. That’s it. Sure, Murray, Charles, Ogletree and others may emerge. But that step down is a big reason for UGA’s decline. Richt’s NUMBER ONE job is to recruit great players. Number two is to hire/manage great coaches. He’s doing a poor job of both.

All the losses fall on Richt. It’s his job to hire coaches to prepare and develop the players. He has failed miserably by holding on to Martinez 3 years too long. If the change in a D coordinator had been made when it should have been, then UGA is not in this spot this year. Instead, it’s thrown the program into a tailspin that no coach can pull out of. So yeah, the Auburn loss is his fault, as well as the other 5. Because it has been on his watch that UGA has deteriorated into a grease fire!

Brian

November 16th, 2010
12:48 pm

I am somewhat at a loss here. There were several things that needed to be “addressed” in the off season to make this year a better year. One, the defense. It was horrid last year. Enter Grantham. Statistically, UGA has a much better defense, only giving up just over 300 yards a game total. Second was better kick-off coverage. Check. UGA is first in kick-off coverage in the SEC. Third, they needed to get decent play from Aaron Murray and not have him lose games. Check, other than the Florida game, he has been the reason we have been in so many games at the end. In fact his freshman season has to be one the best in UGA history (2500 yards, 21 TDS, 60% completion rate in 11 games). Turnovers were a huge factor last year. Check. We lead the SEC in turnover margin.

So why all the sudden hating of Mark Richt and Todd Grantham? If you thought this year’s defense was going to be all world, you need look no further than Saban’s first year at Bama and their newly installed 3-4 defense that year. That team wound up 6-6 as well. It took a year to get players to completely buy into and understand the workings of that defense. He was also able to recruit player who fit into that system. Offensively, UGA should be ok next year. They will have plenty of experience coming back. Defensively, as recruits come, it will get better. Lest you forget. Jarvis Jones in waiting in the wings to take over one of the inside backer positions. Imagine him and Houston lining up together. Not to mention our young inexperienced corners and safeties will have another year under their belt.

I am glad Richt will be back next year. And Grantham as well. Things will be better next year. I think Richt deserves the time to turn it around.

Georgia is always one to cry when things don’t go as expected. As a life-long Atlanta resident, every year we hear about how Uga will win the MNC. The offseason is filled with gloating about how good uga will be. Of course, they never do. Uga has never lost a game due to their inadequacues. Grow a set and own up to the fact that you got beat…by Fl, USC, AU, etc. One would think uga fans would grow weary of eating crow, but they keep coming back. You can hang your hat on the Fulmer Cup, congratulations.

How is wishing for someone to hurt Fairley classy? Uga players attacking Fairley was really classy and demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship. Did Fairley have one late hit? Yes, he did. Was he penalized? Yes, he was. The other hits were legal. If Fairley wanted to injure Murray, he could have done so on any play. After all, he was in the backfield all night. If you want to stop your quarterback from getting hit, how about blocking someone.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?

As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.

wow at the auburn fans crying about one accidental chop block. If you actually watched the game you would have seen the two georgia linemen in pointing fingers at who missed their assignment. It was fair to call the penalty because it is dangerous, but it is ignorant to call it dirty. Anyone who knows football would know that based on the other locking assignemnt would know that the linemaaaaan that went high should have been blocking down to the inside instead of reaching to the outside. A blown aassignment not dirty. Unlike numerous late hits. According to NCAA rules the defensive player has to make an attempt to avoid contact even if he is being blocked. So Fairely should have went straight or fell down instead od turning into to quarterbaack. That was a bad no calland based on his play all game and all season malicous in intent. I will even go as far as to say it and several of his other hits were flagrant which should have led to him being disqualified from the game.

Alabama Dog,

I can’t tell you anything about hosing down players as I was like 12 then. What I can tell you is this: I have lived in Atlanta for my entire life. I know first hand the “classy” actions and obnoxiousness of uga fans. For example: my wife, two uga friends, and I attended the AU-uga game three years ago. Uga men(several) bumped into my wife, who happened to be 7 months pregnant. My Uga friends witnessed the incident and said something to them. The Uga guys actually wanted to fight because my wife had on an AU shirt.

I have several Uga alum friends, and I frequently tailgate with them. I have a lot of experience interacting with uga friends. Don’t act holier than thou. Both sides have sore loser fans and have demonstrated questionable behavior over the years such as dancing on a logo, chop blocking, emptying the bench, late hits, rushing the field after a TD, etc.

AUaccountant:Auburn-Georgia 101 is now in session. Allow me to fill you in on the particulars of the ‘86 Auburn-Georgia game. Auburn was on the verge of the SEC title that year. Georgia came in a HUGE underdog in the game. Nobody gave them much of a chance to win. With a backup QB (Wayne Johnson), Georgia went on to beat Auburn 20-16 that night. Delerious Georgia fans stormed the field after the game to celebrate what at the time was one of the biggest upsets over Auburn in a very long time. Auburn, in their disgust that Georgia had won the game, turned the field’s sprinkler system on, to get those people off the field. I have NO problem with that whatsoever, but then they turned water cannons on the people who were still in the stands as if to say “Y’all won the game-now get out”! I’m sure in the crowd in the stands there were pregnant women too. As well as older fans, who were doing nothing more than basking in the glow of a tremendous win. Classy? I think not. Auburn-Georgia 101 is now over.

Bottom line is GA like FL is not that Freakin Good this year, and both teams need to clean house with getting rid of the Thugs that they have recruited. Auburn is not running a taunt ship as well as it seems that Newton is all about himself and his tryouts week after week for the NFL. Again, there seems to be very little team players in college football as most are about using college as the steppin stone to the NFL. I wish the day would return to the student/player getting his education and giving back to the university by giving 100% for four years and letting the cards land where they may.

On the booing of Faloughi–if you had been in the stadium watching the Georgia sideline, you would understand the target of the boos. It was not to the injured player (note applause with all other injured players on both sides of the ball). It was the Georgia coaching staff. Faloughi was going to the sideline when Richt, in a move a la Ray Goff, told him to hit the ground. Knowing that CBS cannot resist an opportunity to go to commercial, the staff got the timeout without having to take one.

The fact that UGA has gone 10-2 (07), 9-3 (08), 7-5 (09) and will end up at best 6-6 in 2010, suggests that we have gotten worse each year for the past 4 straight years. Unless things dramatically change, UGA will become a “middle of the pack” team getting beat regularly by Auburn, Florida, Alabama, LSU and now South Carolina on a regular basis. UGA is now in the pack with Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State and Tenn.

Joel Smith

The SEC has passed us by. Seven teams have better schemes (coaching) than us. Four of those teams execute their schemes with similar talent to us (LSU, Auburn, Alabama, and Florida). Three of those teams execute their schemes with less talent than we have (Arkansas, Mississippi State, and South Carolina). We either need to find coaching talent to match those seven or do like Tech did years ago – move to the ACC. Otherwise, our goal each year will have to be the best of the bottom five in the SEC. If Kirby Smart stops the Auburn offense next week, we should immediately hire him as head coach. Otherwise, go after a big name and pay $4,000,000 instead of the current $2,000,000 head coach salary. This is only a two and one half percent increase to an $80,000,000 athletic budget.

Love how ya’ll are saying Chizik made things worse by not keeping his players in check when Georgia coaches actually have the monopoly on that sort of thing. Richt not only doesn’t prevent unsportsmanlike conduct by the ‘Dawgs, he actually encourages and promotes it.

I DO admit though that I hate to see Auburn lowering themselves to the Bulldawg modus operandi of “dirty play.” I sure hope that gets nipped in the bud! The last thing in the world Auburn needs to do is sink to the Bulldawgs level! In all actuality though, I saw maybe one play by Nick Fairly that could be interpreted as a late hit, and that’s the one he got flagged for. You can call the others *dirty* all you want, but doesn’t make it so. You might be whiners, but it doesn’t much matter if you’re not the ones wearing the striped shirts on the field.

Lastly, it’s good to see that some things never change. Makes me feel secure that all is right with the world because Georgia fans are doing their usual whining, complaining and offering of excuses. Whew! Gotta love consistency! Makes me feel all warm ‘n fuzzy inside.

[P.S. The writer of this blog must go through a LOT of Purell -- writing about the Georgia Bulldawg Thugs on a weekly basis is *dirty* work indeed!]

Sucks to be UGA and Florida.

Mike Bobo play calling is to blame.I think we had sucess running the ball. Not saying Murray not going to be the real deal but we should have ran the ball 20 times more.We did not take advantage of the clock after warbuzzards scored to make it 21-14 insted of pounding on first down we through it an dwe went 3 n out.As far as Auburn I put my money on a loss at Alabama.Go dawgs

Hey HAHA,

Only a GT Fan like you could revel (that means to be very excited / party) in the scandal victory of one team over another.

Frankly, I hope your pathetic team beats us so we can unload our coach. You will keep the same losing coach for two decades however.

I’ve become a huge Richt fan over the years but I can’t say the same for the UGA fans after reading all of these whiny blogs about how they can’t wait to see Revenge on Auburn. Everyone else plays dirty, but UGA plays with halos around they shiny helmets. Get real, Look in the mirror people. You lost a 21 point lead because you weren’t as good. PERIOD. I didn’t see all this whining from Auburn the previous 4 years when UGA won. Move on…….

Any thUGA fan to cry about anyone playing dirty either has a short selective memory or is in denial. There are few programs that consistently show less discipline or less class on the field.

I don’t know where you’re coming from Bill.

“And this isn’t a complaint about Todd Grantham’s schenes.” and

“Mike Bobo and Mark Richt aren’t why Georgia lost to Auburn.”

It’s someone’s fault who is paid 2.8 mil a year and who is incompetent, clueless, and who’s sudden greatest fan club is all other SEC schools who know playing that sucker-chump Richt is a likely W for their program.

Richt doesn’t deserve any more second chances. Georgia has already gone further than Auburn with Turbeville, and Tennessee with Fulmer. Ax the loser now, demand a responsible. talent savvy search committee and put Richt in the rear view mirrow.

Or, let’s go 5-6 again next year and let this McGarity puzzle deal with it another year later.

I love the dogs but hate the whinning. We got beat. We got beat a lot this season. Some of it was bad play some of it was just better teams. Live with it we had a bad year we may have more. I get so tired of blaming officals other coaches better players recruits that sign with other schools. We have enough firepower to win most years. We had it this year. We just didn’t put it together. Quit whiing and face the fact that you can not win the SEC every year.

Enough of this crap. Accept the UGA-AU rivalry for what it is and, since college football is all about money anyway, why not make the most of it? Here’s a suggestion: using the UGA-UF game as a hugely successful marketing model, why not turn this one into the “Hillbilly Barn Dance”, complete with its own logo? My first thought is the banjo kid from “Deliverance”, but certainly there are other images just as appropriate. The AJC could run a contest and Ned Beatty can announce the winner. I know I’d watch it.

Oh yes it would have been much classier if the Auburn coach would have made the choke sign to other team’s player. It’s football…….deal with it…… or don’t watch it, play it, or support it.
