How will Dogs stand up to national spotlight that comes with Cam Newton?

Aaron Murray needs to get off to a fast start against Auburn. (Associated Press)

A few early thoughts on this year’s renewal of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry …

It’d take the best performance of the season on the part of Todd Grantham’s defense to stop Cam Newton, and the odds are long against it happening. He’s just too talented and the Dogs haven’t done a good job this season against quarterbacks who can run. (This one, of course, can pass, too.) About the best we can hope for is that Georgia makes Newton and the Tigers work for it and doesn’t give up big plays. …

After watching Auburn and Arkansas go back and forth last month in a game with a basketball score, a lot of folks warmed to the idea that the Tigers don’t have a very good defense and that Georgia’s best shot at winning this game is to get into an offensive shootout. If that does indeed prove to be the case, the key for the Dogs is going to be getting off to a fast start and not having to try and play catch-up. Another shaky first quarter like Aaron Murray has suffered in the past two games and Georgia may be toast against Auburn. …

No secret to what Auburn will do on defense. Double up or roll its pass coverage toward A.J. Green and blitz their brains out, hoping to rattle Murray into another rash of turnovers like he had against the Gators. The strength of the Tigers’ D is their front seven, so the play of the Dogs’ maddeningly inconsistent offensive line in both pass protection and run-blocking will be a key to whether the Dogs get blown out or keep it close. …

It’ll be interesting to see how the intangibles play out. For whatever reason, the visiting team in this series often has the upper hand. However, the confidence with which the Tigers are playing this year may well counter that. But what effect will all the off-field conversation about Newton and the NCAA investigation have on Auburn? …

Few will be predicting a Georgia win Saturday, but despite Mark Richt’s efforts to play down the “signature” aspect of the game, there’s no denying that if the Dogs somehow come out of Jordan-Hare Stadium with a win, it will be one of the biggest (and most unlikely) victories by a Georgia team in quite a few years. …

The pressure is on Auburn, which can play for the national championship if it wins out, but it’s also on Georgia, which has a chance to win back some respect in a nationally televised game.

How are you feeling about the Dogs’ chances?

well, don’t think for one minute Auburn will roll on UGA. This could make UGA’s season…knocking off no. 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes to the wire.If Georgia can play with intensity and not turn the ball over it will be a great game. I pick Georgia 31-27.

The old saying is “good teams find a way to win”, bad ones don’t. Ga is not a good team for whatever reason. When the players say they know how good they are talent wise. It makes it even more pitiful. Ga will find a way to lose the game!!

Uncle Frank is Patrick? I don’t think so. He misspelled badly in the 3 posts, plus he said “Five of Auburn’s losses were by only eight points, or less.” Auburn’s losses…huh?

By the way, I’m not patrick (he uses lower case) posing as me. He calls people names, and I do not stoop to that level in discussions on these blogs.

Could have fooled me. I may not be the greatest judge of character. Hell, sometimes I’m just a hapless homer. But I know a Patrick when I see one.

Don’t forget about Dyer, the top running back.

Miss. St. (game 2), Clemson (game 3) and La.-Monroe are the only games in which Auburn has not rushed for at least 300 yards. They averaged 7 yards per attempt against La-Mon and 4 TDs.

Only Miss. St. (4.1) and Clemson (4.7) have held Auburn under 5 yards per attempt. They averaged 5.9 ypa against S.C. Against Kentucky it was 6 ypa. All other games were over 7 ypa. The season average so far is 6.6 ypa, and opponents have averaged 3.5 ypa.

Passing, Auburn averages 10.3 yards per attempt. Opponents have averaged 6.5 ypa. Against SEC opponents only, Auburn has averaged 8.2 ypa.

As the holiday season is quickly approaching here are some
1) Cam gets mad after iron bowl and an gets speeding ticket!
Wonder if Cam’s got an Alabama license since that Georgia or Florida one is suspended.
2)and a Boise State vs TCU BCS championship…or is that BS championship!
3) Tech’s new QB makes Yech fans forget Josh “Robot Rollcall” Nesbitt.
4) Obama finds Bin Laden, and puts a cap in his——Whooo..Quick to the Slow.”
5) They find no oil left in the gulf, no wait oil in the gulf, no no oil in the gulf, no wait oil in the gulf.
6) Miles whats his name dumps Kim Kardasian, Reggie Bush then dumps her again.
7) Cam Newton wins Heisman
8) Cam Newton dates Kim Kardasian
9) Cam Newton dumps Kim kardasian
10 Mark Richt resigns as coach of the Georgia BullDogs.
11) mark Richt dates Kim Kardasian
12) Mrs. Richt kicks Kim Kardasian’s ___ whooo..quick to the slow.
13) Conan O’Brien wins ratings war over Today show and Letterman
14) Conan O’Brien dates Kim Kardasian, then dumps her.
15) Democrats kick out the republicans in the house.
16) Democrats all date Kim Kardasian
17) Mark Bradley does some actual journalism and wins the Pulitzer prize
18) and yes Mark Bradley date Kim Kardasian
19) and then dates Kim from the real Houswives of Atlanta
20) Kanye West apologizes to George Bush ( even as he has no reason to)

21) And the moral to this list? All of the above have a greater chance of happening then my beloved Dawgs beating Auburn. Folks is is not going to happen. Auburn and Cam” I know that laptop is here somewhere” Newton are just too good. And these Dawgs are just not ready for prime time. They have a coaching staff that is more interested in doing just enough to keep their jobs.

I will wait for next year and pray for an SEC championship
In the mean time…who knows…maybe I too will date ___whoo quick to the slow!

Well lets just say this….if us having a chance to win depends on the O Line- we are DONE. This group could not block a high school team. Add to the mix of Ealey or Calab no doubt having a fumble or two and the defense likely to give up a “deer in open field” TD or two and I expect it to be along the lines of Auburn 41 UGA 24. I am just ready for this season to be over- this team brought this mess on themselves by all the off field problems. I hope and pray that we dont have to endure a bowl game too.

UGA RUN DEFENSE IS BETTER THAN ALABAMA, LSU, AND FLORIDA AGAINST THE RUN. 2ND IN THE SEC, ONLY GIVIGN UP ABOUT 100 RUSHING YARDS A GAME. AUBURN WON’T BE ABLE TO WIN BY RUNNING THE BALL WELL ON GEORGIA. UGA DEFENSE STOPS AUBURN’S RUSH OFFENSE, UGA PULLS THE UPSET.

This is the type of hyped game that ends up with a score of 7 to 6. It seems every time a game is supposed to be an offensive display, the defenses come ready.

LSU was only allowing 86 rush yds per game and we rushed for 440 on them. South Carolina was only allowing 60 rush yds per game when we played them and we rushed for 334. UGA allows over 100 per game? You can figure that one out LOL!

Auburn won’t blitz much. They get the job done with the front four and let the linebackers play linebacker.
A team that can run for 440 yards against LSU’s defense will get about all they want against Georgia.
Auburn’s offense has been developing all year and as the season goes forward Newton has been running less and passing more. Auburn has three other backs that have all had 100 yard games, including freshman RB Mike Dyer who now has more rushing yards than South Carolina’s Lattimore.
Auburn’s defense has been improving game by game. Held LSU to 17 points, which is better than Saban and bammer could do. The last 7 points Ole’ Miss scored and all 24 that Chattanooga scored were against reserves.

Attention, everyone, especially dawgtards. We will now observe a moment of silence in memory of Saint Jan Kemp, who exposed the shameful practices at UGA that were initiated and carried out by slimeball Vince Dooley. Dooley’s image as a coach and a nice guy were forever shattered during the trial, not to mention the one million dollars that dawgtards had to pay Saint Jan. These practices of recruiting morons and coddling them for four years, them tossing them out like garbage, are still going on, but at least the world knows what’s happening in Athens now.

And now, the moment of silence…

First, no disrespect to GA.
They are a quality SEC program and always dangerous, no matter the record.
Can they hang with Auburn? … not this year.

Ga may keep it close for a half but at the end AU do what AU does.
The same run game that piled up 400+ rushing against LSU will bring power on the inside and speed on the outside.
Come up and stop it (if you can) and watch the 50 pass play.
They will keep the defense under tremendous pressure and they will do it at a blistering pace.
Late in the game when the defense is looking for an oxygen bottle is when it gets out of hand.

I lot of people speculate whether the team will be distracted.
Perhaps they should wonder what might happen if they come out and play with a chip on their shoulder.
I watched every AU game this year. Cam is a joy to watch. He is like a kid on a playground.
He smiles, laughs, celebrates with the crowd.

This team and these coaches are angry,……expect some extra time in the whirlpool bath for UGA.
This could get ugly.

Patrick,

You are right.
As dissapointing as it was, Ga has won the last 4 games.
There are a couple of teams that have had our number lately.
LSU, Arkansas, Georgia have all put streaks together against us.
Maybe the dogs will be the first of those three to keep it going in 2010.

Maybe not.
