Richt’s warning to players: ‘It could get worse’

Mark Richt didn’t hang around long at Tuesday night’s Touchdown Club of Athens meeting, showing up late and leaving immediately after some brief comments and taking a couple of questions from the floor. But he didn’t skip the fan gathering, as some had speculated he would, and when he took the microphone he didn’t duck the issue of Georgia’s 0-3 conference start, either.

“We are where we are,” the coach said to the full-house crowd assembled to hear his mentor, Bobby Bowden. “We’re going to have to get better or it’s gonna get worse. It’s not going to stay the same. I told the players, you think it’s bad now; it could get worse.”

But no matter what, Richt said, “we’re not gonna lose our poise, we’re not gonna lose our integrity. We don’t want to take our frustrations out on anyone, except maybe Colorado. … We just have to keep working hard and keep together. We must stay together.”

Generally, Richt’s update for the club echoed what he’d said earlier in the day at his weekly news conference: The coaches need to work on helping the players correct their mistakes and teach them how to handle adversity while maintaining a positive outlook.

“That’s all we can do right now is keep grinding and keep it positive,” the coach said.

Richt didn’t get into a lot of specifics about the Dogs’ problems, but he did note that in the Mississippi State game it seemed that every time Georgia made a big, positive play, something happened to negate it, whether a turnover or “the penalties got us again.”

On the bright side, he said that the return of A.J. Green to the lineup is bound to open up the middle some for the Dogs’ tight ends as defenses double-up the celebrated wide receiver. “It’s nice to see No. 8 out  at practice again and know that you might actually be able to use him this week.”

The Georgia coaching staff is hoping Kris Durham can play against Colorado. (Associated Press)

Even without Green, Richt said, the Dogs have been close to breaking several long touchdown passes with Kris Durham if only quarterback Aaron Murray had been able to hit Durham in stride. The problem, Richt said, has been Murray overadjusting after tending to overthrow receivers in the spring game. “We told him to keep it in play and give the guy a chance to catch it,” which is better than overthrowing, but “if he had hit Kris on the run I think he would have scored four or five times.” Richt also singled out receiver Tavares King for praise.

Durham, Richt said, was able to practice Tuesday in a noncontact jersey after suffering a stinger to the neck in Starkville, and “We hope he’ll be able to play” against Colorado.

Asked by a fan about dealing with the higher altitude the Dogs will face in Boulder, Richt said, “There’s not much we can do about it.” He said he consulted with UGA director of sports medicine Ron Courson and asked if getting out there 24 hours earlier would make any difference and Courson said no. Richt said Georgia will have oxygen available on the sideline but “we’re not going to make a big deal out of it.”

At that point Bowden interjected that Richt should just ignore the altitude and later during his own comments the former FSU coach said his teams’ experience playing at Colorado was that the only difference the altitude made was “the ball goes further,” which helps kickers. “They want you to think it’s a big problem and they try to psych you out,” Bowden said, but his advice on the subject is: “Don’t pay any attention to it.”

As for Georgia’s undersized defensive line, Richt was asked about additional playing time for redshirt freshman Kwame Geathers, the biggest of the Dogs’ nose tackles. The coach said that part of the problem has been Georgia’s opponents haven’t been playing two-receiver sets, which means the nose guards haven’t played much. Geathers, he said, “is coming,” though he’s still tending to favor the hand on which he had offseason surgery. “He’s not, in Coach [Rodney] Garner’s opinion, as ready to get as many reps as the other guys.”

After Richt left, Bowden, who regaled the crowd with amusing stories from his long career, assured the Touchdown Club, “I feel sure Georgia’s gonna pull this thing out” and said that frequently it just takes one player to make the difference. “It’s not like they need to replace all 30 players.”

HOPEFUL SIGNAL ON OFFENSE?

I thought it was interesting that in his news conference Tuesday, Richt talked about Georgia still wanting to run the ball and keep the play-action passing game that hasn’t had much success so far this season, but he also said, “We do have ways to get the ball to our receivers quickly on quick screens. We have screens to our backs. We have ways of throwing quick game if we feel like they have outnumbered the run and we want to get some one-on-one situations. We are still very multiple in what we do.”

Sounds like the head coach wants offensive coordinator Mike Bobo to mix it up a bit more. At least, I hope that’s what that means.

It’s interesting to read all of the thousands of expert head coaches who’ve got all the answers. In fact, they know more than the coaches who live with these players year round. Do you think these coaches who have sterling resumes have suddenly forgotten how to coach and manage players? Yeah, a lot is going wrong and I’m frustrated, but if anybody’s gonna fix it, it’s the staff in place. Now, go beat the Buffs.

I hope that Coach Bowden gave Richt some advice while he was in Athens. Maybe Richt could use him as an adviser/mentor. Coach Bowden has gone through some good and bad times at FSU and his experience in these situations is unsurpassed.

You know, so many things suffer when you lose ballgames: recruiting, rankings, revenue, NFL salary, coaching continuity, etc. Richt’s right–it could get worse.

The only way it DOESN’T get worse, is if Georgia finds a way to start believing they are dominant, playing with confidence, forgetting the last 3 games. If Georgia keeps thinking about those past 3 games, it will get a LOT WORSE FAST.

I’m so nervous about the UT game. I don’t know what’s going to happen to our program if we lose again to a depleted UT team at home. The UT game could well be most important game in CMR’s history at UGA. I fear a loss would send a shock wage to Adams and hierarchy and force McGarity to get rid of the entire staff. There is going to be that much pressure next week folks.

10-3 or 9-4 and a top 20 final ranking is possible, so you have a lot to play for. Win a game, then get on a roll, then beat Florida, Auburn & Tech, and you have a great season.

But it all starts with getting 1 win.

I have to admit that bringing in Coach Bowden as some type of consultant does sound intriguing. However, I am deeply concerned about this teams lack of mental toughness as well as physical toughness ont he field. The other night I spoke with a former UGA great running back who resides here and he pretty much said the same thing! No toughness!

We are very soft. The previous poster blamed no monday practice but I think NCAA mandates one day off. Some people do it on Sunday others on Monday. May be wrong. We need to toughen up and play harder. To make that happen you have to practice harder and guys have to fear that they may lose their jobs. Not sure they fear it right now. Not upset at all with our D they have fought their talls off.. in each game we have been a positon where could have swung the momentum in our favor if a better play had been call and if the O-line would have held up, this offense has not performed up to any of our standards… we have one heck of a QB in Murray, this O-Line has to man-up and start blowing people off the line the question is will see it this week or will it take 6 more weeks for them to jell

Richt is right about a few things he said……it most assuredly could get worse, and there’s nothing he can do about the altitude at Boulder.

We do need to spread teams out more….get King and Thomas out in space. If we’re going to run between the tackles, run Chapas or Munzenmaier ( sic? ).

Note to Murray – “The ball goes farther”.

Richt keep saying that the players and coaches going to stand together and be a family that is a lie…and I know that for a fact…there is no family feeling in that locker room nor meeting room. The players(some) feel like they are not given fair chance to play and other players are treated like kings …the kings and non players are fighting among themselves. People playing the same position don’t talk to each other because position coach got one player that can do anything and nothing is done and the other player make the same mistake and is punish….It starts at the head….Richt need to go and take his coaching staff with him….

It won’t get much better until the thUGA character mentality and recruiting of lowlifes ends. The current dancer/prancer, dreadlocked, tattooed, bling wearing, loose helmut, lawless goon showmen aren’t going to change their gang mentality until they run out of eligibility.

Richt and staff set the tone. How does this cycle get broken? Only with a new coaching staff, and that is still a while off – then maybe player character turnover.

The alumni and fans have been part of the problem by not screaming B.S. when all this started. Instead they cheered it on.

He should be removed from the team and Richt should be forced to apologize for his player’s actions. It was the same hit that was delivered by Chris Davis on his on teammate, Tindon Sturdivant (except Davis Hit Sturdivant from the right side) effectively ending his career. What a program. A good football coach would say emphatically that “we are going to get better” but typical Richt says it could get worse simply because he doesn’t have a clue as to how to make it better. Do you think Saban would ever utter those words? I think not nor any of the other great coaches I have seen. Richt is nothing but an alibier and excuse maker who is simply trying to keep the fans expectations low so he can keep hanging around because he doesn[t have a clue as to how to take UGA to the next level!!!!!

CMR stated “we’re not gonna lose our integrity.” – Heck – that is much of the problem now. Thug dawgs on and off the field. Ex: Last week when when of the linebackers ran Mallet out-of-bounds for only a 2 yard game – the linebacker (can’t recall his name) – stared down at Mallet, got in his face, and angerly said “get the f**k off MY field, you motherf**ker”. Oh yea, real character and real integrity. Looks like CMR’s choir boy attitude to the players are not very effective.
Just a thought – I wonder if Mallet said the same thing to that ThugDawg at the end of the game – likely not – Mallet has character.

I hate the lame arguments like “they’re only a couple of plays away from being 3-1.” SO WHAT??? They’re 1-3 and that stinks. You can squint all you want at a pile of garbage, it’s still a pile of garbage. If they were good enough to be 3-1 or even 2-2 they would’ve made those “couple of plays.” It’s not luck, funny bounces of the ball, or twists of fate, and it’s not the refs, it’s quality of coaching and players.

Those “couple of plays” are the difference between good teams and bad ones. Florida makes those plays, so does Alabama, and so did Mississippi State and Arkansas.

You really thing AJ Green is going to change things? If that is true, that is very sad. Georgia should have plenty of athletes ready to step in. Yeah, there will be a step down in talent from someone like Green but a win or loss shouldn’t hinge on him being there. Florida is going into Alabama without Rainey and probably without Demps. It hurts, but just gives a chance for someone else to shine. If we win or lose, it won’t be because those guys were or weren’t there.

Absolutely no way we lose in Boulder. We might be bad but we AREN’T that bad. Colorado is considered the 11th or 12th best team in the Big 12. That conference is nowhere as good as the SEC except for maybe three programs. We win by two touchdowns or we must really be sorry. We lose and we need a new coach NOW and not at the end of the season!!!!

You are wrong. Georgia is not just a couple plays away from being 3-1. Of their 3 losses 2 were by multiple scores and in a third the Ark game the pigs controlled the game most of the game. Pigs didn’t win by much but they dominated and were flat out better than you losers.

Jones @ Bama is real good for sure. Jeffery @ So. Carolina is real good. I think you saw him in the dawgs loss to USC. Broyles at Oklahoma is pretty damn good too. I guess it really isn’t a fair question ontil AJ actually does something on the field.

UGA has problems top to bottom. The precedent was set with Damon Evans and extends all the way down (example–lack of dicipline on and off of the field). It even extends to lack of accountability and responsiblity in the recruting area. How could AJ Johnson end up at Tenn without UGA even expressing interest!!??
UGA must look inward to correct the atmosphere of lack of dicipline, thuggery, etc before any meaningful improvement can be made

It will actually be a relief to get away from Georgia this weekend and be with the most “loyal of the loyal” Bulldog fans in Boulder. Not many bandwagon fans are willing (or able) to afford the trip.

I am so disappointed that our AD has decided to help the team be more competitive by scheduling more Buffaloes and West Carolinas in the future. If you are a Bulldog season ticket owner, you know that, although these games sell out, thousands don’t attend and you can’t give away tickets to those games.

Although UGA already has a healthy financial bottom line and brings in a gadzillion dollars already, the AD wants another home game to make more money. I wonder how much money is enough for this guy?

Yea, but so are we, the 11th or 12th best team.(in the SEC)

Home field advantage, coming off a bye week, having a Blackout, celebrating the 1990 NC team. The crowd will be fired up.

And you know what Richt will do, the same dumb thing he does every time we win the coin toss(if we win it), defer to the 2nd half. He will playing right into their hands, giving them the opportunity to score first and get the crowd all pumped up. All the pressure then goes onto us and we start making mistakes and things do downhill.

It appears to me that Richt always seems to escape the blame. I just have never seen in any sport where the coordinators who were hired by the coach get all the blame. . He shouldn’t get anymore chances. The strength of our team was suppose to be the running game and defense. Green was the icing on the cake but not the cake. The fact that at this point we have two young quarterbacks tell you something about his recruiting. It seems that he is just recruiting a bunch of thugs with all the arrests. Mark Richt has lost this team. The longer we wait for him to right the ship the bigger the hole is going to be to get out of. Folks we are in the SEC

For all of the “fire Bobo” idiots. Last year Bobo’s offense averaged around 29 points a game(with Joe Cox). The only difference is a new inexperienced QB, and our best player watching. You should win every game if you score 29+. Sometimes, like it or not it is the players. We miss a guy who scares every defense in America and a guy who had not thrown a ball in live competition in almsot 2 years. So #1 take a deep breath, #2 get a grip, and then GATA!!!!

I don’t know why anyone even attempts a guess at what our final record will be. There is only 1 game left on our schedule that is a definite W – Idaho St. We have 2 almost definite Ls – Florida and Auburn. The rest of the games are a complete toss up, even this week in Colorado. This team is a complete unknown and nobody can say with any real certainty which games the Dawgs will win and which they will lose. As a fan and an alum, I just want us to improve every week (on and off the field). Time for one of my favorite hobbies, an examination of the Bowden coaching tree. Ready? Here we go…

Bobby Bowden (Don Vito) – run out of Tallahassee when he refused to quit despite having lost his grip on the Seminole program at least 5 years earlier; now living off of his bitterness

Tommy Bowden (Michael Corleone) – finally run out of Clemson after years of underachievement; they would’ve whacked him earlier but IPTAY couldn’t stomach the buyout.

Terry Bowden (Sonny Coreleone) – bloodily gunned down at a toll both ambush on the Plains; his ghost is rambling around somewhere in northern Alabama

Jeff Bowden (Fredo) – as FSU OC, forced to don the concrete overshoes after hanging an oh-fer on mighty Wake Forest in ‘06

Chuck Amato (Tom Haden) – chased off by N. Carolina State (his alma mater, no less) after steadfastly refusing to recruit a competent quarterback for multiple seasons

Mark Richt (OK, out of “Godfather” parallels) – the wolves are howling, the feds are closing in, whatever metaphor you care to use

It’s less pretty with each passing year. This Bowden “legacy” will ultimately be shown to be a thing of smoke and mirrors.

Fire Bobo can quantify their results too.

“What’s up with our play-action? If we’re under center, we’re going to be running play action. Saturday we had 24 pass plays called under center. Of those, 21 were play action and the other three were 3-step drops. In shotgun though, of our 14 attempted passing plays, only 1 used play-action.” Good grief, no wonder Murray was getting smacked around. I’m guessing that Manny Diaz has somebody on staff who can count, too.

http://blutarsky.wordpress.com/2010/09/24/mississippi-state-the-non-preview-preview/

If you want to go back further an over used play action call lost the S. Car game in ‘07 also in ”07 Bobo stuck with an off tackle running game far to long which he issued an apology for. Sounds alot like this year…..

Also on last, year flip thru the box score drive charts and count the drives over 4 min. UGA lead time of position due to consistantly giving the other team a short field due to turnovers (Stafford never tossed less than 10 a year) and bad kick coverage.

UGA will lose enough games to the other SEC teams. Why would McGarity compound the UGA losses by going outside of the southeast. The WOOF, WOOFers like to talk trash about a national program, but UGA is not about to travel nationally and represent the State.

The problem is there isn’t one example you can give us of a program that started a downward slide…which this obviously is…and returned to prominence WITHOUT a coaching change. Typically when things head south with a coaching staff they get worse….See Tenn and Auburn as examples within the last few years. When the recruits stop paying attention and start going elsewhere you’re done….Richt is going to lose the top recruits every year to Bama and Fl. What is going to sell them on? …Hey son you can go to Shreveport…

“…not gonna lose our integrity”

Coach, in recent years we have seen our Bulldogs:
1. Commit penalty after penalty, oftentimes very stupid ones at critical moments.
2. Have all kinds of trouble off the field, both legal and with the NCAA.
3. Dance around on the sidelines in the late minutes of a game in which we were getting beaten.
4. Go running off the field at halftime with time still left on the clock.
5. Dance around at midfield after needing a last-second field goal to beat VANDERBILT (of all people).
6. Be chased off the Vandy logo (in that game mentioned above) by their coach, who then turned right around and told them to deliberately commit a penalty against Florida.

Exactly how much damn “integrity” do you think we have left?

ONE player does not make (or turn around) a team. Football is a “team sport”, correct? With the consecutive Top 10 and Top 15 recruiting classes Coach Richt has had, we should have talent replacing talent like shark teeth when they fall out. WE NEED TO INSTILL A SENSE OF HISTORY AND PRIDE in the players for the program that they are playing for instead of looking at it as a stepping stone to the NFL.

How can anybody talk about running the table? If you called Vegas and had them put odds on Georgia winning out, I would bet that your chances would be better with the Georgia lottery Fantasy 5. I’m not joking.
Get this in your heads folks. Richt will be lucky to win 3 or 4 more games this year. His players have already given up, and his coaches are probably already looking for somewhere soft to land when they all get canned at the end of the year. Richt does not know what to do. For years the program has always been plagued by little problems like “receivers can’t catch”, or “offensive line has injuries.” Those smaller problems are what shows up first, kinda like your engine burning oil or knocking before it throws a rod. Well, now there are so many problems, it can’t be fixed and will have to be replaced. Everyone is blaming this guy or that guy. There will be no further success until there is a new program in place. At least that’s how I see it.

Can it get worse? You bet. Who said 9-3 is possible? What are you smoking? Dogs lose minimum of three, likely more. This season is a disaster. That’s the SEC folks. Not everybody can will all their games, all of the time. It may be a 1-2 year rebuilding – or – 10 year down cycle…

But no matter what, Richt said, “we’re not gonna lose our poise, we’re not gonna lose our integrity. We don’t want to take our frustrations out on anyone, except maybe Colorado. … We just have to keep working hard and keep together. We must stay together.”

That sounds just great until you remember the cheap shot that Ben Jones took on a State player who’s back was to him. And just what has Richt done to Ben Jones? Nothing I bet.

Is Richt so stupid that he doesn’t realize that Ben Jone was “TAKING OUT HIS FRUSTRATION” on that defenseless player and now he tells his team,” We don’t want to take our frustrations out on anyone, except maybe Colorado.”

Richt better clarify that statement, because the last time he total the team to “dance” after a TD and the whole damn team ran onto the field. If he is not careful Georgia will set a NCAA record for personal fouls in the Colorado game——-his boys just are too smart.
Maybe that’s why they can’t block and learn the 3-4 defense.

Granted, I don’t know how long ago this visit took place, but I wonder if CMR has ever considered hiring someone like this as a Consultant to help us out. 1) This is starting to have a Groundhog Day kind of feel, I remember these EXACT SAME conversations (”has the coaching staff lost its grip?” “Is UGa at rock bottom?” “Can the ‘Dawgs make it to Shreveport?”) unfolding on these blogs last season, only later in the year. Consecutive years is the beginning of a trend and that’s not a good thing.

2) Someone above had an excellent point, when was the last time you saw a program go into a tailspin and get back on track without changing the head coach? The only recent examples I can come up with are Penn State, which got pretty mediocre somewhere in the ’00s only to recover with a couple of nice seasons here recently, and Iowa, which also hit a funk and bounced back big time. Maybe there are others but the point is that it’s rare.

Hey gang,

No sense is getting upset about this team anymore. At best they will finish 8-5 and go to some loser.com bowl. The problems with the UGA football program won’t be fixed until Mark Richt leaves. Richt has been good for UGA football, but this car has been slowly veering off the road for the last couple of years and now its has crashed into the ditch. Richt had an opportunity to cash in on winning a National Title between 2002-2005, and he didn’t take advantage of it. And now his time has passed.

If you want to cheer for a team in Red and Black that is actually going places, root for the Falcons. That is a team that clearly heading in the right direction( and who would have thought that would have been the case 3 years ago after the Mike Vick/Bobby Petrino debacle).

Bottom line: Richt is a good man who has done some fine things for UGA. But when he leaves, the program will be in worse shape then it was when he took over. Whoever comes in after him will have a MAJOR rebuilding project on their hands!

JB,

That is a good point that you make about Tommy Tuberville. There are definitely some parallels between him and Richt, even though the UGA administration has always been more supportive of Richt than the Auburn AD ever was of Tuberville. But Tuberville throwing OC Al Borges under the bus was the beginning of the end for him. Usually when you see an abrupt turnover in the coaching staff, that is rarely a good thing. Usually you just fire one coach to send the message to the others. But when you fire 3 guys, like Richt did; guys that had been with him for 4-8 years, that is a MAJOR red flag. I’ll go ahead and make a prediction right now: Mark Richt will not be the head coach at UGA after 2012. He can either be let go now, or later. But this program will not get better as long as he remains.

I personally think Richt needs to take back the play calling duties. I’m not saying he is the only reason but FSU did have a drop off after Richt left. We had alot of success when Richt was calling the plays here at UGA (3 trips to the SEC title game isn’t too shabby.) There have been games where I thought Bobo was going to be fine as the O Coordinator but it just isnt consistent.
Richt can’t worry about hurting feelings. His team is reeling, his program has been in decline, if I am the head man I am going to do what I can to change it. If that means calling the plays and seeing if that gives the team a spark then so be it.

Change the offense based on the talent. you never have the same team year in year out so WHY have we been running the same plays for 10 years. Clueless!

While the team has many question marks, I don’t think some of the criticism of the defense is completely justified. While it’s obvious that we don’t have all the athletes necessary for the 3-4, particularly on the DL, and we’re a couple of secondary types short, too, the overall defense is slightly improved. While I don’t have all the stats for the defense under he who shall remain nameless, I recalled the D giving up 30 and 40 points regularly. While they’ve given up yardage, thru 3 SEC games, they’ve given up an average of 24 points. If you include LaLaf, it’s down to 20. Sure, they still look confused at times, but I believe the scoring defense is already slightly better, and should only improve from here. Problem numero uno is the offensive line, who certainly has been.

Having said that, and assuming AJ will have an impact on this Saturday’s game, we should at least come home with a win.

What else can Coach Richt say except work to correct mistakes and be as positive in your approach as possible. We’ll see.

Oh yeah, meant to add that we need some more help at running back – move Samuels back to running back…run Chapas and/or Musenmier (spelling on both?) at tailback some…the little kid doesn’t have any business running the ball between the tackles unless it’s on a cut-back.

The thing I don’t understang is how is AJ going to be such a big factor? Has he been able to practice all year? If he has I would think it was limited so the players that were playing could get most of the reps. I wouldn’t think Murry and AJ have their timing down so well. Murry has had trouble hitting the WRs in stride all year. So, why will that change now?

tell it like it is:

By what extension do fans like yourself feel others are not “REAL” fans if they choose to desire change at the prime leadership position of the program they root for?

In a funy ironic twist, for those with intelligence, those fans who always say “root for the program or get off the bandwagon” when it comes to the regime’s failures, would it not be a true statement to say that “true” fans are the ones who want the change to correct the glaring issues as opposed to “bandwagon” fans who defend the staffs failures to the last because the staff’s successes are what attracted them to root for the program anyway, hoping for an overnight return to the glory that brought them close in the first place??

Stop bind homering and LOOK AT THE TRENDS – they will never lie to you. Metrics are always good indicators if you will just open your eyes and read them for what they are good for…

I will say this much. Looking at Dooley’s record over 25 years, there were some ugly years and we would have killed for an 8-3 some years. Given, Richt makes 10 plus times the money that Dooley ever made. There were a few times but not many that the fan base was calling for Dooley’s head. Yes times have changed. Yes CMR has dropped the ball or rather taken his eye off the ball. No one wants to be in His position.. Just think of what he is going through. I hope that he is not operationg or coaching from a position of panic or desparation. If he is, then it will get worse. Maybe later that we had wanted, but he did make a very tough decision with CMR last year. Regardless of the outcome of this season as ugly as it could get, I believe we give him another year. This might be the jolt needed for him to regain control of this team. I will guarantee you that if he can survive this, he will do all in his power to never be there again. Mark Richt is not a loser. I believe we will see a different GA team for the rest of the year- let’s hope so.

OK – every one follow along here…

College football programs are “businesses”. They provide an entertainment service for profit to the university and aligned conference.

Disagree? Fine. They are and should be run like a “business”. The CEO is the Head Coach and to be successful, he should treat it as such.

Busninesses should, if they are properly run, make balanced decisions not only on subjective observation of operations, but also METRICS

METRICS: (definition)

“A metric is a system of measurement that includes the item being measured, the unit of measurement, and the value of the unit.”

“Metrics deals with measurements that are used to determine the progress toward meeting certain goals. It quantifiably answers the question whether or not the goal has been met. Every person with goals has used a measuring system to determine if his/her goal was met and what steps needed to take to continue to reach that goal. Metrics are used by organizations to measure which business and organizational goals are appropriate for the organization, given its particular mission.”

Qunatify the metrics of our CEO over his 10 year period, then compare them over time

everyone will see the same thing – a DOWNWARD TREND

Graph it…
Calculate it…
Project it into the future…
Put colors on it…

It still does the same – it tells us our “business” of college football in Athens is heading into disturbing territory. It tells us that those driving this ship have not paid attention to detail. It tells us that, well, things are not well.

Everyone, stop being emotional about it and put practical sense to it.
What does your practical, logica sense tell you? The same thing that looked subjectively obvious after the 2006 Auburn game…

Things have got to change, and this leadership has had 5 YEARS to measure, weigh and correct these trends, yet have failed to do so.

Unfortunately in this country, failing CEO’s get golden parachutes….

Just some helpful info for any of you going to Colorada for the first time. Boulder is higher than Denver at 5430 feet above sea level.

Here are some helpful hints on adjusting th altitude.

About Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness is hardly something most people prepare for, but it still affects scores of unsuspecting newcomers to Boulder each year. Boulder is staggering 5,430 feet above sea level. At that height, the air pressure is lower making respiration more difficult for some.

Symptoms of altitude sickness:

•Nausea
•Headache
•Diarrhea, Upset Stomach
•Fatigue
•Dizziness

Physical Adjustments to Higher Elevations
Being aware of your elevation and following some common high altitude tips is the best way to reduce the risk of suffering from altitude sickness. The number one way to reduce the risk of sickness is to refrain from any hard physical activity upon arriving to the higher altitude.

I particularly like the idea of no hard physical activity, at this altitude the air pressure is less and it make breathing more difficult, also, panties come flying off faster!!!! :)

To the Dooley lovers: Yes, all in all a very good-to-almost great coach. He stayed on for two main reasons: (1) His teams regularly beat our arch rivals (Tech and FL) and (2) A little recruit named Herschel Walker. He was soft against his Alma mater (the Auburn War Eagles/Plainsmen/Tigers) though. And then he abandons us when he could have challenged Paterno and Bowden for the most wins. So I am mixed on his legacy overall.

UGA’s number 1 issue is that they do not have an O line that is of SEC caliber and this same issue cropped up last year until the latter part of the year vs then not so good Auburn and weak lil acc GT. The GT game was a false indication of UGA’s ability to run.. They then and now are horrible on D.

As for UGA, this season is toast. DUMP Richt and get a coach in here that can recruit SEC caliber ( not FSU in the 90s caliber ) and recruit 4 or 5 nose guards and two big time running backs and within two years UGA can be fine. CMR has had 10 years and done nothing.

We also need some QUALITY running backs. Ealey and King would not play for any SEC teams ……..none.

As for Ingram being one player who does make a difference in a game, sure! A RB will touch the ball 20 to 30 times a game. a receiver maybe 10 at most if you’re lucky. With UGA’s offense, a WR might touch the ball 6 times, if lucky. Then you still can’t run or block at the line of scrimmage. Whose more important RB or WR?

I guess if A.J. Greed would’ve played we’d be 4-0. Amazing logic!

Richt’s warning to players: ‘It could get worse”. Well, it must to put the necessary pressure on the Coach to fix it or A Dir to get the Bums out of the kitchen.

Football is cyclic, that is you win for X years and you will eventually go down for X years. UGA is going down fast. The longer Richt is kept the longer it will be before the turnaround coach will be hired to get UGA up out of the dirt and become what they once were. Look at the ups and down of ALA, AU, Notre Dame, Tech, many others.

Look at Tech had three coaches with over 150 wins each (Heisman, Alexander, Dodd). But tough years in between. Tech hopes CPJ will be another long term winner and not just a Bobby Ross who won a Nat Champ and left.

The quarterback waits too long to throw the ball——well, you recruited him; you trained him. The linemen don’t weigh enough ———– duh; you recruited them; ou fed them.

It is time for someone to fall on the sword, and shut-up blaming the kids, the fans and the jhedges around the field.

Sorry y’all, I just feel like it’s time for Richt and Bobo to go. The killer instinct that Richt arrived with is long gone and, as for Bobo, he never had it to begin with. I hate to say it, but I would rather have a coach like Saban, Miles, Spurrier, or Meyer, that recognizes when it’s time to put a nail in the coffin. I would rather everyone hate Georgia because they fear us than have their respect because we have a classy coaching staff. Fix the ongoing (for years) problems, or get out! The people that support this team demand and deserve more than mediocrity!

I’m with Ralph. Until we start recruiting some high character kids instead of the gangsta dancing 4 & 5 “star” athletic but low character thugs things will not change. It is time to clean up this program and make us proud again instead of the laughing stock that we are viewed as. Maybe others like all this dancing on the side lines when we are behind in a game or getting up and beating their chest because they make a tackle, but it is so classless, and when you are behind and 0 and 3 it looks so stupid. We could certainly use a dose of classy kids to represent UGA the right way, instead of some of the thugs we have out there now.

Foster Brooks

One more thing, this was not meant to be racist. What Ben Jones did in that game was totally uncalled for. I am older (57) and not sure I have ever seen a bulldog take such a cheap shot like that. He could have ruined that other kid. I am sure he is frustrated like a lot of pepole are, but that was the height of bush league play and just shows what lack of character Mr. Jones has. More so than the losses, it is things like Mr. Jones lack of class and sportmanship that is really troubling to an older fan. The thugs need to go and lets get some classy hard nose junkyard dogs who want to play and do it with some class and dignity. Mr. Jones should be ashamed and his coach should be ashamed. I do hope the coaches are not teaching this kind of play, and do not beleive they are, but if they are they should all be fired. There is no excuse for this, and I still think it goes back to recruiting.

In defense of Coach MR…he’s not on the field…UGA’s secondary is the worst..can’t cover and can’t tackle..the QB can’t throw over 40 yds…he under throws the receivers every game..very frustrating to watch. Coach Bobo play calling is horrific…I’ve seen better play calling in pee-wee football. We have to do better..if not..this season is a wash. Time to look towards the future..there is a lot of good young talent at UGA right now who is getting limited play..e.g. the Ogletree brothers, Stripling, and a few others. The 2011 class is looking good…some pretty good DB’s are coming..the two young big hitting DB’s out of Griffin and Tucker will be huge additions for the secondary…and let’s not forget the QB from N.C…Hold your head up Dawg Nation…these things happen..we’ll bounce back.

UGA loses to Colorado, the NC in 1990, then richt will likely be fired by middle of next week. Why keep him? This Offense vs the SEC teams that we have faced and with the players that we have, could have spread out SC’s and Arkansas’ and MSU’s D teams and we would have controlled the ball and scored. We would have won 3 and likely not of had to put the ball in that moron Ealey’s fumbling hands. A quality spread attack like Florida uses is the way to go with average linemen. Quick outs, etc.

Why UGA is trying to out muscle these teams is lost on me. It is for this reason that change must be made and made quickly. UGa ought to spread the Buffalo’s out and score at will. We will see.

THIS GAME will determine the future of the $$$ boys on the UGA coaching staff.

Being an OBJECTIVE fan doesn’t mean that you are not PASSIONATE about your team, you just EXPECT that your coach will maximize your teams chances/players. It’s quite clear that we all want UGA to win and do well, the problem with your mentality is that you are willing to CONFUSE/EXCUSE a poor performance with “you don’t support your team”. Want to move the ball on the ground, install the PISTOL offense, with Murray a threat to run on every play (but only designed to run 8-10 times) – This will open up passing lanes for Durham and Green and the TE’s as CO loads the box to stop the runs. This also lines the RBs up closer and to the side of the QB, giving them the 2yd head start that they all 3 need. We had better see new schemes like this or some type of “spread” Saturday, or we will continue to get the same results. We cannot continue to be so predictable on Offense…I am hopeful Richt and Bobo are working on something like this in practice this week.

5) Gruden would be a good hire. See Pete Thamel’s article on http://www.nytimes.com with Gruden commenting on Oregon’s offensive system and his excitement. However, how long would Gruden stay? He has been very successful in the NFL, and that would be hanging in the background.

4) Patterson, I don’t have an opinion on him. 3) Peterson’s success out west seems to put him in a prime position for a PAC-xx job.

2) Muschamp was the subject of a piece on Fox Sports yesterday on the “Richt hot seat” topic. I’m sure he likes Athens, but Austin is supposed to be the best place to live in the U.S. 5 more years, though…that’s a lot of potential earnings to give up.

1) I don’t think Smart has enough experience. Muschamp, I can see him as a good choice, but Dawg fans take the “bleeds red and black” thing to the extreme. Not Smart, not yet.
