Dawg fans should take a moment to celebrate

There’s always plenty to worry about when you’re a Dawg fan.

The SEC wars lie ahead and Mark Richt’s 2010 Dawgs have a lot of potential, but also a lot of question marks. We saw early last season how the loss of a starter on the offensive line can get the running game out of sync, so we’re all crossing our fingers that Cordy Glenn’s bout of mono doesn’t leave a chink in that wall protecting young Aaron Murray and opening holes for Washaun Ealey and Caleb King.

Elsewhere in Athens, Mark Fox’s basketball team lost a signee this week who didn’t qualify academically, and while it’s not a major blow, it won’t help as Fox tries to live up to growing expectations for his second season in Athens.

And looking ahead, the baseball program is coming off its worst season in ages and David Perno is finding out just how quickly folks can forget about a trip to the College World Series final. Jay Clark already had the uneviable job of replacing a legend and the Gym Dogs didn’t make things any easier for him by missing out on the NCAA tournament for the first time in 26 years. Talk about pressure.

But before the new seasons get under way, let’s stop, take a deep breath, and relish all the good vibes that were emanating from the Georgia Center in Athens Friday as UGA celebrated the long-overdue homecoming of Greg McGarity.

It was one of those moments when you could almost feel the Bulldog Nation coalescing.

Heck, folks are even saying nice things about Michael Adams, and what a terrific job he did of handling the whole Damon Evans affair and the quick hiring of the obvious right man for the job, despite his ties to the old Vince Dooley days.

As longtime swim coach Jack Bauerle put it Friday, “I don’t think our Bulldog Nation has been this galvanized since 1980 since we won a football championship.”

Take it from Gators head basketball coach Billy Donovan: “Georgia has made a fantastic hire.”

So let’s put off the worrying for a while and take time to celebrate UGA’s first big win of the 2010-2011 school year.

Speaking of which, I’ll be on vacation next week, and at least part of that time I’ll be back where Greg and I both grew up.

As he said in Athens Friday, ‘It is indeed great to be home.”

Go Dogs!

Note to those saying fire Richt. To be heard, two things you must understand – you must be an actual alumni of Georgia and you must be making large cash contributions. Take care of this and get back to us.

“The only concern, which I think we had addressed, is he had never been in a top spot. Does he have sort of the toughness to make the hard choices?” asked David Shipley, a UGA law professor. “We wanted to make sure that he does. All the feedback we got was that he’s got the toughness to stand up to people. There might be some tough personnel decisions down the road. There’s no doubt they’ve made some tough choices at Florida.”
Florida fired football coach Ron Zook and McGarity went to interview Meyer when he was at Utah.
I wonder if the folks on the search committee is getting a little antsy with CMR ?

“watch the GT golfers kick azz at the PGA, when no UGA golfers are anywhere to be found”

You mean, except for Bubba Watson, who just came in second in a playoff?

The idiocy of you techtards that troll these blogs just continues to astound. I can only pray that you sit down at my poker table with that kind of blind arrogance.

good go Bubba! Interesting how the AJC didn’t talk much about him being a UGA guy. Was rooting for Kutcher and Molder too but Bubba’s more fun to watch.

It’s a shame Bubba-neck couldn’t win his 1st major for his dad. I believe it would have been the first major ever won by a UGA golfer. BTW, Tech golfers have won several.

4 sacks

2 pass break-ups

2 fumble recoveries

0 Touchdown Passes

“The offense couldn’t get the ball off, getting sacks. We were making plays, tackles for loss. Locking down passes. Doing what the defense is supposed to do. Causing turnovers. All the right things,” Houston said.

Wide receiver Logan Gray on the offense stalling out in the redzone: “Obviously, when you have an opportunity and you get down there, you wanna stick it in. I think we were thinking about that after practice — we gotta convert.”

Aaron Murray 8 of 20, no Touchdown Passes

Caleb King 7 carries same as Washaun but 18 yards Caleb King to 78 yds Ealey.

Justin Houston 3 sacks and scored TD after recovering 1 of several fumbles

Look, you were the 1 who came in here wanting to talk about the PGA this weekend. You mean like David Duval who said that all his teammatest at Georgia tek were all hackers ?

Bobby Jones NEVER golfed 1 golf ball EVER for Georgia tek, not 1.

I AGREE THE INITIAL PHASE OF THE SUMMER CAMP HAVE NOT BEEN VERY PROMISING!

THAT said ,,this will be a very interesting year for uga football, but the loss of zach might bite us in the butt this especially since we have no one to back up murray.
murray’s height does not woory me since so many 6ft qb’s have made it in the pass.joe montana,dj,last year’s super bowl qb have done fine.
the thing that worries me the most is that murray is so injury prone and the lack of back-up qb could be our down fall this year.

i am afraid the dawgs will struggle this year even with a weak schedule so the new ad will have a interesting year. lets hope he is up to it.

My my…injuries on a OL line none of which seems serious..let’s all run around and scream “the sky is falling” or “see the players are soft” folks we are a heck of a lot better off so far this year than in 08 injury wise..relax deep breaths the haters are coming out of the wood work..and soon it will be put up or shut up time…the Gators and Tide are the teams to beat going into the season..they have won that respect and the bullseye that goes with it on the field..lets hope we can start building the base for a championship season. 12-2 how is that you have not yet hung yourself slow down your scaring me..we will be better than last year..good enough to capture the SEC east not sure lets play the games and see..Go Dogs!

J Dub,
Tickets for the coach and UGA/Russ go very quickly. We got one for the coach a couple of years ago because I got my daughter who’s a student to go get them bright and early.

Other than that, they separate the players by position…offense on the north side of the stadium and defense around to the railroad side of the stadium. They are seated at tables and you get in the line for whatever players you want to sign.

The lines are very long; just plan on getting through about two of them. But the players are accessible and have fun with it. Great opportunity to take your kids for autographs. If you arrive a couple of hours early, can be near the front of one of the lines and then will make it easier to get more than one set of autographs.

Should have added that with the construction on the north side of the stadium, they might have the players in some other location this year. Havent seen a status update on the construction lateley. Hope it is done, but should be a great improvement for the gameday experience. Now if they could just figure out a way to widen the concourse on the third level and make the restrooms larger…

I don’t know what is so desasterous about last season.

We only lost to just 3 SEC East opponents last year, when in the previous 3 years prior to last year, we had lost 7. So, it was just slightly worse than the previous 3 years, last season.

Solid, well established position coaches are the key to recruiting 5-star talent. These good young athletes want a position coach who can develop them into great athletes for the next level. Does UGA have that kind of coaching at the position level? Are they willing to do what it takes to attain it?

Dawgtards ruin this
state

You need to go look yourself in the mirror, and ask yourself three questions. First, why do I always feel better about myself when I sling sh!+ and p!$$ at those whom I consider to be better than me? Secondly, why do I suffer from such low self esteem? Finally, how in God’s name can I correct my character flaw? Until you make those corrections, every time you open up your mind to the public you will always be exposing yourself as a miserable, pathetic POS!!!
