Dawg fans should take a moment to celebrate

There’s always plenty to worry about when you’re a Dawg fan.

The SEC wars lie ahead and Mark Richt’s 2010 Dawgs have a lot of potential, but also a lot of question marks. We saw early last season how the loss of a starter on the offensive line can get the running game out of sync, so we’re all crossing our fingers that Cordy Glenn’s bout of mono doesn’t leave a chink in that wall protecting young Aaron Murray and opening holes for Washaun Ealey and Caleb King.

Elsewhere in Athens, Mark Fox’s basketball team lost a signee this week who didn’t qualify academically, and while it’s not a major blow, it won’t help as Fox tries to live up to growing expectations for his second season in Athens.

And looking ahead, the baseball program is coming off its worst season in ages and David Perno is finding out just how quickly folks can forget about a trip to the College World Series final. Jay Clark already had the uneviable job of replacing a legend and the Gym Dogs didn’t make things any easier for him by missing out on the NCAA tournament for the first time in 26 years. Talk about pressure.

But before the new seasons get under way, let’s stop, take a deep breath, and relish all the good vibes that were emanating from the Georgia Center in Athens Friday as UGA celebrated the long-overdue homecoming of Greg McGarity.

It was one of those moments when you could almost feel the Bulldog Nation coalescing.

Heck, folks are even saying nice things about Michael Adams, and what a terrific job he did of handling the whole Damon Evans affair and the quick hiring of the obvious right man for the job, despite his ties to the old Vince Dooley days.

As longtime swim coach Jack Bauerle put it Friday, “I don’t think our Bulldog Nation has been this galvanized since 1980 since we won a football championship.”

Take it from Gators head basketball coach Billy Donovan: “Georgia has made a fantastic hire.”

So let’s put off the worrying for a while and take time to celebrate UGA’s first big win of the 2010-2011 school year.

Speaking of which, I’ll be on vacation next week, and at least part of that time I’ll be back where Greg and I both grew up.

As he said in Athens Friday, ‘It is indeed great to be home.”

Hey, you remember that one time when there was that one Dude and he was freaking out, and then there was that other Dude and he was saying it would all blow over and we would end up even better off? Remember that? Yea, that was awesome.

“So let’s put off the worrying for a while and take time to celebrate UGA’s first big win of the 2010-2011 school year.”

So does this mean that UGA is now 1-0 and will end up 8-5 instead of 7-5 this year?

Wecome To UGA Mr McGarity,

This is a year for celebration. We now have a new AD and a new Defense Coordinator. We are definitely moving in the correct direction and putting UGA Athletics back in the positive spotlight.
I really believe that this year, UGA will dominate the S.E.C. East to include the beating of our arch rivals, the Florida Gators. Yes I said it, and you heard this form me. UGA wins the SEC East this year at the very least. Bama had better watch out. I have them winning the SEC West.

SSIgator…maybe…but as long as we stomp a mudhole in your team’s ass this year I don’t care if we go 1-11. But 7-5 isn’t our goal. 12-0 is always our goal and since CMR has been here we’ve ALWAYS come only 4 games shy of that on average. We’ve won AT LEAST 8 games since he’s been here. Take that back to the swamp with you and tell CUM. (Coach Urban Meyer)

Bill

When you get back from your vacation, do me a favor

Ask Mcgarity if season ticket holders can get something better than a cheap cardboard license plate.

I mean come on, the amount of money we have to donate to watch this team get coached for a beat down in Jacksonville every year deserves a metal license plate or maybe a t-shirt, not a cardboard plate that ruins in the Ga heat and humidity

Help us here Bill

Folks, I believe you can take it to the bank that this cat SSGator, probably has never been to school at Florida, has never donated money to the Gator cause, and probably has never even been to a Gator football game. Much less a GA/FL game. His one pleasure in life is to get on a Georgia blog to say stupid things about issues he knows nothing about.

Talk about a pathetic human being.

If McGarity does as good a job as everyone is predicting, the UGAA needs to renegotiate his contract – his salary is >$100k less than the one that Evans lost.

Don’t celebrate too much. thUGA’s athletes will continue to get arrested, fail easy classes, forget how to spell their middle name, not have a valid drivers license, punch a cab drive, steal a TV, accept a meal from Jim Harrick JR, sell crack, get DUI’s, ETC.

Welcome to the jungle, you’re stuck with dawgtard nation.

and the author telling commenter “budweiser bob” to get over the fact that people who donate a lot of their hard earned money get very little in return is yet another sign that uga is in the middle of a long slide downhill that a new AD won’t fix.

“journalists” treating fans that way wouldn’t fly on a georgia tech blog. we expect more from our team, our journalists, and ourselves.

Yup, I would agree, it is a time to celebrate ! McGarity was really a no brainer, so Adams doesn’t get any points with me. I am delighted though that we have a solid Georgia man so quickly installed as our new A.D………………I get the feeling that something special is happening at UGA, from the hiring of McGarity to Grantham, Lakatos, Belin. Coach Mark Richt taking an active role in coaching and playcalling this year [needed to be doing it all along]……….I get the feeling we are about to find some “chemistry ” that has been missing for the past couple years………Yup, 2010 looks promising to me, but win or lose………………I just loves me those GEEEEOOOORRRRRRGIA BULLDOGS !!!!…………GATA……..SIC’ ‘EM……WOOF…..WOOF…….WOOF !!!!!!
