Bulldog buzz words: Pounding the rock, attacking, aggressive, versatile … party!

Washaun Ealey will get plenty of chances to "pound the rock" this season. Don't you love that kind of talk? (Curtis Compton / AJC)

Washaun Ealey will get plenty of chances to "pound the rock" this season. Don't you love that kind of talk? (Curtis Compton / AJC)

OK, countdown to kickoff of the season is 30 days, and the anticipation is building. Some quotes to get Dawg fans even more revved up:

“We’re definitely going to use them a lot this year. They’re going to get plenty, plenty, plenty of touches. If we have to pound the rock, we’re going to pound the rock. Our running backs are tough enough, and we’re going to be able to methodically march down the field.”

Quarterback Aaron Murray talking about how he’ll rely on tailbacks Caleb King and Washaun Ealey this season. For old-school Georgia football fans, this kind of talk is almost like porn.

“It feels great knowing that I’ve got just one assignment: to attack. It takes a lot of pressure off you knowing there’s one thing you’ve got to do and you can focus on that one thing and be great at it.”

Linebacker Justin Houston on his role in the 3-4 defense, in which he expects to rush the passer more than 50 percent of the time.

“It seems like it’s going to be a more aggressive D, and that’s something that we need here.”

Linebacker Darryl Gamble, sounding like he’d just watched some film from the Willie Martinez era.

“I don’t wanna give away too much of the game plan. But we’ll be pretty versatile. We’ll probably be more versatile than we’ve been in awhile.”

Mark Richt, talking about an offensive approach that Mike Bobo says likely will feature wrinkles like two-tight-end sets.

PARTY IN THE UGA

How good a sport is Richt? He even consented to a cameo role in a video spoof of Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” that UGA orientation leaders did this summer. The clip has been drawing some online attention this week in the wake of the No. 1 party school announcement. If you haven’t seen it, be warned: It’s pretty silly and the singing won’t win anyone a role on “Glee.” But the incoming freshmen probably enjoyed it and Richt deserves kudos for going along with the fun.

Jeff, I don’t think that is true. I remember several times over the years that when we looked bad in practice it would be printed. Even coach Richt would tell the media if he did’nt think they had a good practice or he though there was not enough hustle by the team.

The two things I saw a surplus of last year were that we couldn’t block anybody and we couldn’t tackle anybody. Hopefully that will change, but I’m not buying the O-Line hype just yet, although I did allow myself to get a little more excited about the defense.

Funny.. There are more gators than noles in Tallahassee nowadays. That should pretty much sum up their fanbase. One crap year and that will thin their herds greatly.

Just wait smartalec gator,

No Tebow=no titles

2006 and 2008 you had him.

Now you don’t.

He is not there to bail Brantley out like he did for Leak.

Zook won no SEC titles while we won 1 and finished runnerup to LSU the other time. Meyer’s 1st year, we won the SEC.

Without Tebow, florida has 1 title in 1996 that was backed into by SOS after getting abused by your rival the last game of the year. Under the BCS, you would have never been allowed a rematch.

chomp on that.

no Tebow=No titles

He is your Herschel.

DawginLex,

Let’s be realistic. The Gators are a great ball team without Tebow. What Tebow brought to that great team was a) 3rd and 1 certainty, and b) the ability to pick up the slack or even carry the team when they were off. Make no mistake, though, they do not all of the sudden suck because Tebow graduated. I hate saying it, but the Gators are loaded with talent, and they have a great football coach, even if he is a weaselly, sniveling, d#ckhead.

The Dawgs had better bring their A++ game to Jax. Our guys had better be committed to continued improvement, teamwork, and execution from here on out. Nobody’s number one at anything until January, 2011.

that one worked out pretty well for you guys.

this year it’s more of the same. i predict more of the same as well. possibly a little better than last year, but count on at least one blowout loss, and a whole bunch of close games with teams you should be beating soundly (ky, vandy, usc, etc. etc. etc.)

Seriously? From a school that had a player fire a gun into a crowd and continued to play football there? UGA has had its share of moped violations and players drinking, so I certainly wouldn’t GO onto another teams blog and talk trash about the criminal behavior by another team’s players… but how can any FL fan possibly throw stones?
If firing weapons into a crowd of people doesn’t get you banned at FL, what on earth possibly would?

chaz, i will until uga can prove otherwise on the field. it’s been about the same thing for the last 5 years. you’ll play some good games, lose focus and get completely shelled once or twice a season, and have trouble putting away mid tier sec teams that you should be crushing based on your talent level. maybe the change on D will be enough, but you guys havent looked that great offensively either

Guy,

I am one Bulldawg that will fully accept that criticism with the exception that UGA has “not looked great offensively.” Last year was a cluster of turnovers (unseasoned QB, patched together line, no running game for first half of season), but even last year the Dawgs put up good offensive numbers.

I still say keep believing that this team will be the same. The more opponents that believe that wholeheartedly, the better. Thanks, though for an even handed, coherent post. All of these yahoos on here talking firings and ancient history, though, that’s good for UGA, too. This season will definitely come down to Ron Zook, Vince Dooley, red panties, and police records. It will have nothing to do with this group of players abilities. Please, everyone, just go on arguing and believing that UGA will suck. It is really the best thing any of you can do for us. It is all just grist for the mill.

i guess i shouldve said ‘inconsistent’ instead of bad. you had flashes of looking good, and to your credit the running game came around towards the end of the year, but it was also against pretty weak defenses (GT, TA&M). you guys were pretty anemic against UF though, which was an actual BCS level defense.

your play calling, esp in the redzone was pretty bad a lot of the time last season as well. maybe bobo can do better this year with different talent (like a qb that doesnt get picked multiple times over the season while trying to noodle arm it out of bounds). i seem to remember a lot of talk last year about your o line being dominant as well and that didnt work out too well. we’ll see i suppose.

The gators do own UGA. When I was a kid, the shoe was on the other foot. I grew up in Central FL, and all my friends were Gators. I never gloated or talked sh#t to them when we were winning every year. Can’t say the same thing for them, though. Oh well, this group of dawgs wasn’t alive then. This group of dawgs was in diapers when Spurrier was doing his thing. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I know that UF is a top notch team, and Brantley is going to be amazing. I like being ranked #21 far better than being ranked #1 preseason.
