Which UGA home game are you looking forward to the most?

I wonder if Vince or Barbara Dooley will be sporting a tag like this on their car come Oct. 9.

I wonder if Vince or Barbara Dooley will be sporting a tag like this on their car come Oct. 9.

I was checking out my newsfeed on Facebook last night and came across a poll being done by Georgiadogs.com’s fan page. The question: Which UGA home football game are you looking forward to the most?

Naturally, a couple of games immediately came to mind, but I decided to go game by game and look at why a Bulldogs fan might particularly look forward to each particular home date on the schedule.

OK, so we start with Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 4, a game that when I last checked had drawn zero votes in the poll. On the one hand, I can see that. It’s a minor opponent and a noontime kickoff in the summer heat. While games like this are a financial necessity — and more pleasing to Mark Richt than opening on the road against a major nonconference opponent like last year — nobody really gets excited about playing the likes of the Ragin’ Cajuns.

And yet … it is the first game of the season, always a date circled on my calendar. Watching the Dogs play in Athens has been one of my favorite pastimes my entire life, so I have to admit I am looking forward to this game. Plus it’ll be the first one in years that my wife has attended with me. She used to be a regular at UGA home games until she began working on weekends and ceded her seat to first our son and then our daughter. Now her schedule has changed and she decided she wanted to attend the first game of the season. So this will be a special game. But still not the one I’m looking forward to the most.

The next home game, Sept. 18 against Arkansas, has drawn 15 percent of the vote in the Facebook poll, putting it in third place. Last year’s game between the Dogs and Hogs was undeniably entertaining — if you like offense and not much defense — and the challenge Georgia faces trying to contain and/or keep up with Ryan Mallett in points production will certainly make this a closely watched match. If the Dogs beat South Carolina, both teams likely will come into this game ranked nationally.

But, let’s face it, there’s a reason that Arkansas is the Dogs’ only SEC home game for which single-game tickets are still available (along with Louisiana-Lafayette and Idaho State). The Razorbacks are still relative SEC newbies and don’t have that much history with UGA. So, no, this isn’t the game I’m looking forward to the most.

That distinction goes to the big SEC game against Tennessee on Oct. 9. Battles in Athens between the Dogs and Vols are usually hard-fought, and the Big Orange bring a lot of fans with them, so it’s always a terrific atmosphere. Add to that Georgia’s need to atone for last year’s dismal showing in Knoxville plus the Dooley factor introduced this year, and you’ve got the makings of a memorable Saturday Between the Hedges. In the Facebook poll, this game comes out on top, currently with 42 percent of the votes.

Vanderbilt on Oct. 16 is drawing negligible support in the poll, but I can see one big reason some fans might circle this game on the schedule: It’s homecoming. That means the parade through downtown Athens the night before, the alumni Redcoats and cheerleaders and some ramped up tailgating. But, still, it’s Vandy. And while they’ve embarrassed the Dogs at home before, it’s not the kind of rivalry that gets folks in red and black revved up.

Idaho State on Nov. 6? Well, it’s Georgia football and the weather should be pretty nice. But if UGA was still doing Band Day (which they unfortunately aren’t), this would be it. It’ll be a sell-out, no doubt, but I expect quite a few seats will go unfilled for this one.

And then there’s Georgia Tech on Nov. 27. The traditional Governor’s Cup game against the in-state rival is running second in the Facebook poll, with 36 percent of the vote. There are lots of reasons to look forward to this game, including wanting to re-establish dominance over the Jackets at home after the loss in 2008. If Tech were a conference opponent, this game undoubtedly would be the favorite for just about all Dogs fans. As it is, I’d rank it a close second to Tennessee.

How about you? Which Georgia home game are you looking forward to the most?

Arkansas!!! Should be a great shootiut like last year! I am a true fan like you Bill, so if we come up a little short this day, I will not go screaming fir heads and act shameful of our Dawgs like all the haters think we should. I look forward to what will likely be the most entertaining game of the season. I just wish it was at night. I for one prefer night games… especially in September.

It’s Georgia Tech. I love beating them. It’s so satisfying. They are starting to become the new Florida in my eyes as far as hatred goes. I used to not hate Tech as much but I think this has really become a bitter rivalry. Arkansas? Ehhh, Yeah maybe only because of Mallett. But I don’t think they are going to be as explosive as most people think. The Tennessee game will be a good one because I expect CMR to run up the score on these guys. Lafayette will be a breeze, it’ll be just like G-Day; we won’t see the entire defense attack until the South Carolina game. That’s when Grantham will unleash them. Vandy will be a good matchup. And Idaho State…zzzzzzzz. Georgia could literally put their scout team out there and beat them by 40 points.

Florida, since we won’t be puckered up in suspense for the whole sixty minutes. The usual beatdown will be on, and the game will be over after the first quarter.

After that, just enjoy watching a real team play superb football and wonder how much better it would be if UGA had a competent coach.

And enjoy the red panties falling from the sky. Grab all of the panties you can. The panties will be numbered, and the winning numbers will win prizes. First prize is a date with a UGA coed. Second prize is two dates… :-(

As far as importance goes, I’d say Arkansas is without a doubt the most important. If we can get through that with a win, I think we’ll be in for a good season. As far as the one I’m most excited about, that would be putting a beatdown on the Vols in October.

Rabid Dawg Fan: A very tough schedule your team plays with Idaho State, Loiusinana Whomever, Vandy, KY Jelly, Miss St. Dang, do you guys play any ranked teams besides GT and UF? NO! You know why, because you all suck so bad and you hate to lose. However, you will lose some games, those being, UF, GT, ARk and SC and you better watch out for Idaho State. That’s one of the lousiest home schedules that I can remember in a long time. Tennessee sucks. Agree with the poster above that if we lose to these hacks again Richt needs to pack up. I’m dead serious. I don’t expect the Techies to be that much better than last year, but it will be the usual slugfest that we win because we own them and they choke. Freaking Arkansas will probably be the toughest home game of the year. ARKANSAS. Its definitely a down year for the SEC.

Tennessee. I would love to see if CMR can avenge the single most worst coaching effort that I have ever seen in my 45 years of following UGA. This loss is worse than the Vandy homecoming loss. It is worse than the recent games with KY, Vandy, & Fla. Can you spell bootleg? Actually, most all of the really bad losses have been under CMR. No wonder FSU or Miami came after him. NO one is trying to hire away CMR or any of his assistants. I wonder why?

Tommyjack–Squander talent huh! Again I ask the question, which SEC team has the best record during the Mark Richt era? Fla? Ala? Tenn? LSU? Auburn?
No! The answer is UGA, averaging 10.1 wins a season during that time (2001-2009). LSU is a close second, followed by Fla. UGA also has two SEC titles during that time. Grant, no NC but only seven teams do…and most of them are in the SEC.
I’m not saying UGA is better than Fla or Ala. but their record shows that talent has not been wasted.
Now, if you are from Tech…no comparison!!!

Tennessee, without question. We SHOULD have an
9-game win streak vs them going right now – the rest
of the nation evidently sees that, as we’ve continued
to be ranked ahead of them over that time period.
This game has become an embarrassment over
the past 4 years because we’ve so woefully
underperformed in it after winning 5 of 6 vs
them in 2000-2005. It’s time to re-establish
the dominance we had vs them. We need to
start beating Florida too, but at least Florida’s
been a top program lately. First things first.

It’s kind of sad to see all the Dawg fans getting so excited this year (just like the year before, the year before that, etc.). How long is it going to take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t
been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.

Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year. Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 10-2 or even 11-1 occasionally, but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 10 final ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.

It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans, like Miami and Ole Miss fans, need to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.

Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Bulldog Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many
blue chip high school players go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in
Athens.

Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.

Okay, I’ll play the game and pick the Florida game as my fave. No suspense, just the usual beatdown, with red panties falling from the sky. Say Florida 45, Georgia 13.

Before the 2008 season began, I told many of my Dawg brothers and sisters that the UT game would be the perfect time for a Blackout. If I could have gotten that message to Coach Richt, and he had taken the advice, The Black Jersey would still be undefeated. We lost to UT in “07″ we needed, and got revenge in “08″. Why Alabama? We defeated them in “07″. Oh Well, My favorite game to see between the hedges this year would be a total beat down of the Vols, and I’d love to see the Dawgs do it in black! No fanfare, No hype, just come out in the black shirts and Kick AZZ!!!

Honestly, I’m looking forward to the GA/FL game! I’m ready to see what we truely have…coaches, players, game plan, talent, etc. Usually this is a dreaded game because GA, regardless of telent, rank or expectations seems to either give this game away or just plan get beat. I believe GA loses some of them because FL is better –especially as of late because of our poor Defenses & lack of well-rounded talent (if not like everyone else was beating FL). But there have been the other 50% of games, especially during the Zook era, where GA was the better team & found a way to lose. Anyway, Richt has been here 10 yrs –he KNOWS what’s expected, and with a new Defensive staff I expect GA to either win or keep it very close this yr, and start at least going 50/50 in the GA/FL series (If not we may be looking for an entire new coaching staff in another 3-4 yrs). I want to look at the glass as half full though & hope for the best. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!

I didn’t realize how weak UGA’s home schedule was this year. I hate those years when the best games are on the road. Oh well, if I was a Dawg fan, I’d porbably have to say the Tech game. It’s for anuual bragging rights and I’m sure you Dawgs don’t want to have to listen to another year of crap from the likes of Saint Simons, Stinger, etc.
Hope you guys win ‘em all except for your trip to Jax! Good luck!

Angie Daddy 2 — Hhhhmmmmm….SO, why is that you start with 3-17?? If you’re gonna go back 2 decades, why not go back another 20 yrs??? Or another 40 or 50 yrs?? OH, that’s right, GEORGIA still has a WINNING record against FLORIDA. You conveniently left that out. UGA handed FLA so many loses, including beat-downs on Spurrier that he made it a personal vendetta to repay UGA. Enjoy while you can –it’s just a matter of time before the Tide (no pun intended) changes & GA is back on top for another 50+ yrs. Besides, Meyer will probably quit a couple more times this yr. Rumor has it that Meyer has actually added a Kleenex Girl to the staff. See YOU in JACKSONVILLE!!!!!!!!

It’s going to be another loooonnnngggg season for the dawgtards, with the usual beatdown in Jax, plus a couple of losses to grossly inferior teams. The best they can look forward to is a 7-5 record, 2nd place in the division, and another nothing bowl game.

Depressing, isn’t it. Maybe the mutt won’t croak on you this year, and maybe you can sell some of the red panties that are falling from the sky. So it’s not all bad.

Hot Tip #1: Green is lying.

Hot Tip #2: Murray is just plain bad. Richt will be begging Zach to come back.

Sammy Davis, Jr,
If you go back to WWII you will find that UF holds the lead in the series. If you go back to the 30’s and before, then UGA holds the lead. Just letting you know that you have to go back more than 20, 40 or even 50 years as you stated earlier. I’d check my facts before I spouted off about something (even though I do realize you were responding to an obnoxious blogger).
Secondly, isn’t kind of sad that you have to HOPE that UF takes a step back in order to beat them? Why not try and aspire to be as good as they are instead of hoping UF falters so your team MIGHT be able to compete? That’s what winners do!

As much as I am looking forward to kicking the living crap out of Tennessee this October and the hour and a half of pure joy that is driving back down 316 with the Tech fans after we beat them at home, the game I am looking forward to the most is Arkansas. This is without a doubt the most important year of Richt’s tenure. This year we will really find out what kind of a coach he is. And in this year the two game strech of So. Carolina away and Arkansas at home will determine the season. Just watch. That will either catapault us into a good year or send us to 7-5ville again.

Oh and Techies, before you all reply about how I wasn’t able to enjoy my usual 316 trip two years ago, that’s okay. You guys had to win one sometime right?

You constantly take shots at coach richt for his evaluation of Ealey last year and not playing him until past the midway point of the season.

Do you know anything about football and specifically the running back position?

Richt stated “Ealey was out of shape and kind of pudgy and not ready to play right after fall camp.”

That equates to:

Not being able to pass protect
Not being able to hold on to the ball

And also what he didn’t state is:

He didn’t understand all of the offense.

So you would advocate playing him opening day against Oklahoma state on the road?

So you would advocate letting him fumble, get injured and lose all of his confidence in one week?

As opposed to letting him learn and by then end of the year be a full fledged stud ready to gain 1,200 yards in 2010?

Class dismissed.

Ga Tech..another chance to show the world what a bunch of frauds they are as a real football team. Also, chance to expose their obvious obsession with red panties. Their fans mention it every chance they get. We’ll pants them at midfield and reveal yellow panties (which look as if they pee peed in their pants). Secretly, their fans wish they would change to red ones before the game to avoid embarrassment. But the only way they’ll ever see a woman with them is to buy some and put em on a blowup doll.

OVERRATED MUTTS R SUPER LOSERS:
Who do you root for?

Now I know its Tech so don’t lie…your adolescent post revealed it.
So let me ask, if UGA is overrated and Super Losers:

What does that make Yech when they lose at home vs our overrated team in 2009?
What does that make Yech when they lose 8 out of 9 vs our overrated team?
What does that make Yech when they get embarrassed by Iowa on National TV?
What does that make Yech when they lose 60 out of 104 games to UGA?
What does that make Yech when your coaches and QB(RBall) can’t count to 4?

I guess Losers are those that win 90 games in 10 years (90-27) with 2 Conference Championships, 6 Top 10 Finishes in 10 years, 3 top 5 Finishes in 10 years, 5 New Years Day Bowls and several All Americans and NFL players (3rd most from any one school).

Now Yech is not close in any of these areas which define Winners not Losers. So Guess who the Real Super Losers Are…Come on You know the answer….Georgia Tech The Ultimate Loser In CFB!

Seems to me that I have lambasted the offensive coaching staff, NOT Coach Richt, who I like. I do so for them having to have the head coach take over all their jobs this season. I do so for KNOWSHON MORENO, funny how you address Washaun Ealey and Coach Richt having to cover-up for their inability to judge talent such as KNOWSHON MORENO, Washaun Ealey, Dontavius Jackson, Aron White, Orson Charles, Marlon Brown, and Branden Smith. It’s the entire offensive staff who has WHIFFED on getting the better talent on the field instead playing FAVORITES. And, so you come up with 1 guy, and say I said I hate Coach Richt for it – no D.A. all the offensive coaching staff should have been FIRED. Coach Richt is stubborn to a fault, loyal to a fault, and Christian to a fault in his forgiveness of the sorry coaching staff he assembled for all 9 years of his tenure. Better be 12-2 this season with this soft easy schedule of 1 ranked team.

Our all out-of-position offensive coaching staff has whiffed miserably at talent evaluation, instead playing favorites, playing players out of position, not giving the play-makers the ball, and all of this culminated in (1) Coach Richt taking over the offense from them all this season and (2) ended up with the offensive coaching staff not signing any of the in-state high school all-stars on Offense 2010 Signing Class.

Former great RB coaching WR, our former WR whose Dad was a great RB for us coaching RB, former QB coaching TE, and former 1 year QB coach at Jacksonville State where we STOLE HIM to be our offensive coordinator while we pay $ 750,000 for a DC and more than that for his staff.
