Evans shouldn’t wait to be fired by UGA

Damon Evans wants to keep his job. Surely he must realize that's impossible. (Curtis Compton / AJC)

Damon Evans wants to keep his job. Surely he must realize that's impossible. (Curtis Compton / AJC)

The odds already were long against Damon Evans keeping his job as UGA’s athletics director after his DUI arrest this week. But the damning and embarrassing details that surfaced with the release Friday of the Georgia State Patrol incident report pretty well seal the deal.

According to the state trooper who made the arrest, Evans repeatedly invoked his position at UGA to try to avoid being taken into custody, which alone would make it difficult for President Michael Adams to justify keeping Evans at the head of the school’s athletics program. Throw in the widely quoted report of Evans crying uncontrollably and his companion’s red panties in his lap and, well, no institution wants a drunken punchline as its public face, no matter how well he otherwise might have done his job.

Evans, who we now know was less than forthcoming at his press conference the other day, said he wants to keep his job, but if he somehow thinks he’s going to come out of this still as Georgia’s AD, he’s thinking about as clearly as he was when he got into that car with Courtney Fuhrmann.

That’s why, if he really wants to do what’s best for the school where he played football and graduated as well as for himself, Evans won’t wait for Adams to fire him. He’ll resign. Without delay.

And if Evans doesn’t step down right away, Adams doesn’t need to wait for the DUI case to make its way through the courts before acting. It doesn’t really matter whether Evans is convicted of those misdemeanors. He might have been a great financial administrator of the nation’s second most profitable college football program, but that’s only part of the job. The AD also represents the university’s athletics interests to the public, and in that capacity Evans clearly no longer will be able to function effectively.

So one way or the other — through Evans resigning or Adams going ahead and terminating him — this situation needs to be resolved as quickly as possible and an interim AD named, presumably from the UGA Athletic Association staff.

Greg McGarity ought to be considered as the new AD at UGA. (University of Florida)

Greg McGarity ought to be considered as the new AD at UGA. (University of Florida)

Moving ahead in finding a new athletics director, maybe it’s time for UGA finally to call home Greg McGarity, an Athens native who grew up as one of Dan Magill’s tennis brats, graduated from UGA, worked for quite a few years for the UGA Athletic Association and is currently the senior associate athletics director at the ultra successful University of Florida, where he’s worked since 1992.

Quite a few folks in Athens thought McGarity should have had the UGA job back when Evans got it. After what’s transpired this week, it looks like they were right.

What’s happened to Evans is a tragedy for the man himself and especially for his family, even if it’s of his own making. I’m not here to condemn him morally. What we’re talking about is what’s best for the University of Georgia.

Whether Adams hires someone with UGA ties like McGarity or decides to lure an athletics director from another school, one thing is clear: There should be no foot-dragging in bringing the Damon Evans era to an end.

And now our damn AD get a freakin DUI. He cannot resign. It would put any type of severence pay in hazard. He is hoping for a buyout or something before he leaves.

Personally, I think he is the scum of he earth. His family will never recover from this. They probably had a mortage and a nice big house in Oconee County. Good Schools….Probably Private Schools.

Those kids had everything laid out for them for years to come. They are going to have to move away with their heads lowered in shame. With the loss of the income he was making, they will most likely go to public schools and have to downsize their living arrangements.

The wife will forever be humiliated. No more power dinners and Christmas parties.

I hate to say it,because I was a big Damon fan. It’s not easy replacing VinceDooley, especially during all that turmoil. But he seemed to transition it well. Mend the fences and UGA has flourished. So I say this to Damon, thanks a lot buddy. You really screwed up mine and just about everyone elses dream frigging job. And now you do need to step down. And if not then yes, you should be fired. You’re still a dawg, we’ve all screwed up royally at least once so I do wish you the best just not in such a lofty position. Good luck and go dawgs!

Many fans held some hopes, however delusional they might have been, that Damon could triumphantly overcome this situation and resume his successful tenure at Georgia. There is simply no way this can happen after the release of the police report, and it’s only going to get worse as the days go on. I assume Adams, the powers-to-be, and attorneys are working on a buyout for Evans so they can get rid of him and keep his mouth shut.

I was as shocked as any other UGA fan to have heard the story, but at this point can’t wait until Georgia moves on with the situation and the anticipation for the 2010 football season once again is the main point of focus among Dawg Nation.

I want to know why is this taking so long to happen. A few have said that they liked Evans, I did too. After this, there is no way he can remain at that position, especially after that police report was released. To be blunt he ###### up, and its his fault. He was man enough to say he was wrong, he should be man enough to resign. Me personally, I forgive him but, I mean does he really expect a second chance

I think Evans was hoping the full details would not be in the police report and is now hoping for a buy-out. His press conference, in which he essentially pulled a John Edwards type of half admission coupled with a B.S. apology, left me without any sympathy for him, just his family.

But can someone please explain why Dr. Adams allowed him to hold a press conference at the University in the president’s absence, with all of the coaches in tow (other than Richt), a day before the police report was to be released?

Must be one heck of a vacation. For someone who is supposedly politically savvy, this was truly stupid.

Evans is not the only one who should be held accountable.

As a member of the “Dawg” Nation, if Adams doesn’t fire Evans in the next 24 hours, then Adams needs to get fired. You can’t be seen on the Jumbotron professing against drinking and driving and get a DUI plus getting caught with “her” panties down. I use to think that Evans was intelligent and good as the AD. I wonder if Evans and Vince have spoken since the arrest, It’s time to bring back Vince Dooley as the interim AD. Wouldn’t Adams choke on having to do that. We could always make Richt the interim AD and call up Nick Saban or Herbie to be the head “Dawg”. Personally, UGA could use a lot of new blood including Adams position. I think Adams is a real a$$hole anyway.

The incriminating evidence was in Evans lap (red panties) and that spells the death knell for Damon’s career at UGA. He demonstrated an incredible lack of judgement and does not deserve to keep his job. I agree with King, McGarity would make an outstanding AD for Georgia and Adams should approach Greg for the job immediately.

Guys – stop talking about a resignation, it’s not going to happen! If he resigns he forfeits all severance compensation. That would be suicidal and even more stupid than driving around drunk with red panties in his lap.

April – Quarterback competing for starting job arrested for underage consumption. Coach lets him compete for job (some have said he was the best in Spring ball) but then the lewd behavior comes out and St. Richt has to cut him loose.

May – Stud quarterback/diva recruit caught on school property being serviced by a girl. Up for suspension. His Dad, the Reverend Lemay (must be a reverend like Jesse and Al) doesn’t want to talk about it after he previously had multiple pressers to add drama to his son’s recruitment.

June – Married AD arrested for DUI with girl and holding her red panties “sobbing uncontrollably”.

What’s in store for us in July – Richt and Adams spooning each other at a Midtown cafe?

Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up. Karma is in a foul mood after the endzone dances, blackouts, one-fingered salutes, Grambling helmets, and on and on.

LeMay – That’s not UGA’s problem. The kid has only given us a verbal, which means he isn’t wearing a dawg uniform just yet. The coaches can’t control every kid’s actions.

If I had kids considering UGA, I’d sure think twice about guiding them there. After reading a few posts on behavior that’s been tacitly overlooked in Athens for years things are a cesspool there – rotten fromn the head down. How can Adams tacitly go along with Leebern’s open infidelity? Look at all the issues Adams has caused (Harrick, Dooley, Herschel, etc).

I was one that thought we should have hired McGarity. Even if not him, it seemed to me the hiring of Evans, just because he was Dooley’s choice wasn’t as exhaustive of a search as there should have been. BUT I can’t sit here and say “ah ha”. By any accounts Evans did an admirable job, and was a valued representative of UGA in several capacities. I don’t think this episode is exactly something that folks can sit around and I say “It finally comes out after only 20 short years”.

BTW, the Evans era was over the minute that report came out. The exact timing of some official announcement of what we all already know to be true isn’t as important as how its framed and what the plan is going forward.

I will go ahead and admit, before everyone else sounds off, most will think I am a ‘lunatic’, but I assure you I am not. I have long been dismayed and discouraged at the reality of sports being elevated to the realm of a God, and sports personalities lauded, praised and hailed as the second coming! It is sad, when sports and the money, which is the bottom line and numeral uno in the first place, trumps academics, ethics and morals. These people who are presented with more money, power and prestige than they could ever dream up, feel themselves invincible, “nothing is going to happen to ME.” I was always amused at the hypocrisy and stupidity of the old ad, “Don’t drink and drive”. When you consume too much alcohol it removes any sense of reasoning and your ability to make anything nearing a sensible choice. Do they not teach that at UGA? A pitiful world we live in, when a man that had so much going for him, pilots a 2009 BMW in such drunken and stupored circumstances. Didn’t we just lose Jordan Griner, under the same carelessness of a drunken driver? It’s time to address morals and ethics and less ‘dawg nation’, whatever that is supposed to mean, I guess that is UGA English Grammar 000, especially on this 4th of July, when we should be so thankful and aware of our independence. Wake up people, it is already getting too late!

From the movie “Hang ‘em High”

Francis Elroy Duffy, Prisoner: You’re now looking, for the last time, at the mortal body of Francis Elroy Duffy, born to John and Edna Duffy, good, God-fearing folk. Who raised me up to be a good man and a good Christian, and I was a good Christian, a good husband to my beloved wife, good father to my children, who I leave behind, hoping that they, and all you, will learn this here lesson which I leave you with. When you take the devil into your mouth, you’re doomed! For he is lying there in wait for you inside that bottle of whiskey. Waiting for you to take him into your mouth. Waiting to get down into your guts where he can do his devil’s work. Liquor is the most foul, evil thing in this here world. It destroyed good men like myself. It’ll destroy you too. Beer is not much better – it’s slower, cheaper. So take these words of advice. And remember, you heard them from a poor sinner, got no more cause to lie, ’cause he’s going to meet his Maker. Now he’s ready. Well that’s all I’ve got to say.

Every program has had and will have its’ share of disappointments. It’s part of the human condition (tho given the man’s position, this one could be hard to top)..

The question is what will UGA do about it? After reading comments about Adams and Leebern and their history, the Board of Regents needs to make some long term changes for the sake of UGA, its’ “flagship” university.. From what I’ve read, terminating Evans doesn’t cure the cause of the problem but more possibly the result. It appears the culture that Adams/Leebern have created is the cause.

Mr. Evans should not have even held the press conference as now, with the details coming out, it makes him look almost defiant. It also seems that Mr. Adams vacation hold is not making the University a priority in such a crisis. And this is a crisis.

I have lived around Georgia people all of my life and I know that you won’t stand for this embarassment for long. This entire fiasco needs to be dealt with swiftly; and I know that the Georgia faithful won’t wait long for that to happen. There’s no choice but to rid the school of this man as he has made a really big mistake. Somehow, based on the details, I doubt this is isolated. That makes it very sad and pathetic for his family.

You get rid of this guy and you move on. Georgia’s proud people won’t be down for long. But I agree, based on the facts, there’s no way that Mr. Evans keeps his position. If it can be proved that Michael Adams and his cronies paid hush money to the bimbo to leave town this weekend and NOT speak to the media, then Adams should be fired immediatley. Next, Vince Dooley could step in as intierm AD until and new President is found that can lead UGA and not divide the Georgia Family. Further, once the new President is found I nominate Billy Payne as AD.

Is the Administration on an African Safari? The arrest occurred June 30, and it’s now July 3 and Evans is still the Athletic Director of the University of Georgia. His butt should have been sent packing by the close of business on Thursday. Worst case, by noon yesterday. This is an embarrassment for the university, and the admin’s paralysis is almost Obama-esque. Get rid of the guy. This is no-brainer.

I think judging Damon is wrong. The Christian thing to do is to pray for him and his lovely family. I know his children will be fine even if they have to live in a $200,000 home and go to public schools. I am sure he hasn’t always been very well off. What is going to matter is that he asks God for forgiveness, forgive himself and move on. He can and will get through this. We will all have to answer to God one day. Be careful how you judge others, take a look at your life, you could fall as well.

No way, no how can this former success story can keep his job. The one constant here however is Adams. Will he really fire Evans? Does Evans have what it takes to eliminate this problem? I not so sure. Will this become the humanity event of the year with the makeover of Evens? My only remaining question is doesn’t all men ride around with red underwear on their lap and breakdown and cry, beg, and use your position as the AD at UGA to get out of a DUI. That’s right, there is only one AD at UGA at a time.

Be somewhat patient dog fans. Evans had a contract and Adams is actually being smart for once. Give the lawyers the weekend to make sure he can be fired for cause and owed nothing as well as make sure there are no loopholes where Evans could sue for not receiving a buyout. This happens when dealing with a position that receives a contract. If this were someone lower down the food chain like a trainer or such, they would have just terminated employment as GA is a right to work state, but with a contract involved, having lawyers take a good thorough look is the smart move.

I suggested yesterday that UGA look to a winning program( National Championships) and
the irony of looking to an asst AD at the University of Florida is just to rich. But I must admit it is one good idea. I’ve got one more idea, you should proably go after Florida’s vice President and really get UGA moving in the right direction and then put Richt on a short leash.

I saw this in a Florida paper—-cute:

Mike Bianchi SPORTS COMMENTARY
7:58 p.m. EDT, July 2, 2010

Did you see where University of Georgia athletic director Damon Evans was arrested for DUI? And did you see his police mugshot? Geez, I thought I was looking at Uga VII. If only legendary Georgia radio voice Larry Munson were around to announce Evans’ escapades. I can just hear Munson now: “Damon Evans is on beer No. 5, he’s on No. 10, 15, 20 — Damon Evans – 25, 30, 35, Drink Damon! 40, 45, 50 – Damon Evans! Damon Evans! Damon Evans!” …

As much as it pains me to say it, he needs to step down. You know, I believe that anyone can make a mistake and all of you guys who are damning others probably need to take a look at yourselves first.

However, the fact that Damon used his position to get out of the DUI, and the fact that he actually had the nerve to even utter the fact that he was the UGA AD means he needs to go. His fling with the red panties chick (I love that post stating that at least they were not orange btw) is between him and his wife, but he put the DOGS in it when he opened his mouth.

We never know if that trooper would have given him a citation and called him a cab before Damon actually tried to bribe him with his “I AM GOD” statement, throwing his position around. Adams has to act authoritatively, but wisely, also. I don’t particularly care for him, but there are potentially great consequences of Evan’s termination, both financially and culturally. I would assume that his legal resources are working through the holiday weekend to determine the consequences of getting rid of him. He cannot survive this.

Unfortunately, the race-baiters will probably turn out to support Evans as well. Adam’s advisors are probably considering those consequences as well, and planning a gameplan when these charlatans turn out.

Someone else mentioned the older Don Leebern’s (Leebern Jr.)open immorality as well. If he loves UGA instead of just loving status, he needs to slip quietly from any official role with UGA. Fortunately Don III doesn’t seem to have inherited all of his father’s character flaws and can fill Don Jr.’s role on these Boards; Yoculan has retired, maybe it is time for Don to retire with her. Don III has strong credentials and ties of his own.

It may be far-fetched, but Billy Payne could be a savior for his beloved alma mater. Holding the AD position for a long period of time is probably a step down for him, but he would be a wonderful caretaker for an interim period of time to repair the damage and to seek the best successor to lead our athletic department. Let’s hope that one of the reason’s Adams has not acted is that he is speaking with Payne first.

Last and certainly not least, pray for Damon’s wife and kids. They are about to lose much- their home, their status, and their respect for their husband/father, if not his personal presence in the home. This man has thrown away the world- this is literally a tragedy of Biblical proportions. If you have faith, pray for his family, for they will sufer the consequences of his sin.

HEY 1eyedJack,

How about sending me some of your recipe suggestions. I am in the process of writing a cookbook exclusively for dedicated bachelors. I think I’m going to call it Bachelor Cooking – From Scratch. Sounds to me like you have some great recipe possibilities!!!

I’m hoping that sales from the cookbook will allow me to expand my living facilities. Right now, my office, kitchen, bath and toilet are all confined to one room. I need to spread out a little bit. Ha, who needs a wife?

Any time something like this happens, the details always make things sound worse. Few people, when they are caught doing something wrong, will step forward and volunteer all the bad news up front. Evans did NOT do this and showed he is not only a womanizer, drunk, and poor representative of the university, but he is also a coward. He has embarrassed his family, his friends and the University. HE NEEDS TO GO. Adams needs to get his fat butt back from vacation sooner rather than later and clean up this mess he made. ADAMS: THIS IS YOUR PICK, SO GET BACK FROM VACATION AND CLEAN UP YOUR MESS. They have had over 50 arrests since 2001, they haven’t won a title in 30 years, and have had cheating coaches (See sleazy basketball coach) and now an A.D. Who gets drunk, drives drunk, and cheats on his wife and embarrasses his family.

They are all idiots.

Get real

That’s just standard operational procedure for UGA, except it usually starts with 20 of their so called “student athletes.” Not sure what all the uproar is about. This is just how we are at UGA. Always have been, always will be…good old cheating cracker trash…

Why not condemn him morally? You don’t think what he did was morally wrong? It wasn’t morally right, was it?

Granted, how many famous people and others have done this and gotten away with it? How many of us have done the drink driving part in Athens? Should we ask Greg McGarrity if he’s ever driven with a few too many under his belt through the streets of Athens? How ’bout you, Bill? I admit it, I did on more than one occasion (what an understatement) back in the day when the drinking age was 18 — I just never got caught. But the drinking caught up with me, I lost my career, my job and a lot of other stuff, and I’m glad I did because I haven’t had a drink in 21 years and I got it all back because I faced the music. Now Damon has a chance to get real with himself, and he’ll have a heckuva retirement to soften the blow….

I agree, Greg McGarity is areal Bulldog and a great guy, bring him back!

Dr. Adams,

I am glad you have gotten some time off for a nice three week vacation during the stressful summertime in Athens. I know it is hard being the president of the University, and you certainly deserve to be away from Athens. In fact, stay away more often.

However, you might not have heard, but one of your biggest appointments has gotten himself in to a big mess and drug the university down with it. In fact, he was arrested, tried to bribe the policeman using his position at the university, and he could have killed people while driving around, late at night, drunk. It also was not good to be undressing a young lady (not his wife, Dr. Adams) while driving drunk.

It might be tough for you to interrupt your vacation, but there is a large PR nightmare unfolding in Athens, and the UGA brand and the influence of many mentors on our students and student athletes is suffering. Dr. Adams, please find some time to put down the drinks and sun tan oil, fly back from the Virgin Islands for a few days, and get to work. You have a lot to do. Then, you can leave town for another few months once things settle down.

Regards,

Your alumni base

At first I thought that Evans might survive this but then the police report was released. That was the nail in the coffin. It made him look like an absolute fool. No one can take him seriously now. He will not resign because he would probably be giving up a lot of money. There will be negotiations over the next week or so and they will come to an agreement for Evans to go away with a stack of cash and zero integrity. I hope he gets a lot because he will never work for a major school again. He will be lucky to get a job as a high school athletic director. Good riddance.

If Evans had only gotten a DUI I would be willing to give him a pass if he was sincere with his apology.I have known too many people in very important positions who got DUI’s and instead of losing a great employee the company gave them a second chance and the employee became a better representative of the company and a better husband, wife, father or mother whichever it was.Two or three beers will give .08 or a DUI.
He has been a great AD, bridging the good ol’ boy group with others that has been a noticeable benefit at UGA. But, what I can’t forgive is him being caught with his girl friend and her RED panties . This would reflect on the integrity, ethics, morals and all the character traits of every UGA alumni and student associated with UGA that feel these traits are important in ones life and their family values. Someone will get a great AD but Evans time at UGA is over and there shouldn’t even be any deliberation by Michael Adams. If Adams does not dismiss Evans on character trait issues then Adams need to go.

Dear Mr. Bill King: As I write this there are 163 posts here. At least you have the courage to use your true name and even provide a picture of yourself. That is more than most of these cowardly wimps here, who while running their mouths about Mr. Evans, do not have the guts to even provide their true names, addresses and telephone numbers, with a few possible exceptions, and behave like hooded members of the KKK of years past. Some of them are evidently in other states too. Only the Good Lord knows their true identities.
I don’t care if all of you want to watch football entertainment 24 hours a day. That is your right. But please keep in mind there are a million other human activities and some of us do not want to watch football entertainment garbage 24 hours a day as perhaps you do, so please have the courtesy of not forcing it on the rest of us.
Do you know what the population of the State of Georgia is today? About 10 million with about 75% over the age of 18. This is a lot of people, many more than represented on this prejudiced and worthless board of mostly anonymous cowards.
Some of us taxpayers are sick and tired of having what little good name there is at UGA and the other schools in Georgia, tainted and polluted by the kinds of immoral and illegal garbage as illustrated by the unethical and improper actions of the AD and others over the years. There is absolutely no reason to have a commercial football entertainment business on State of Georgia property any longer. It has nothing to do with higher education or what little of that goes on at UGA anyway. This is documented in numerous books and articles most of which you have likely not read and won’t read. UGA has enough trouble as it is, without having its name tarnished with commercial football entertainment garbage, of which there is no shortage anyway. Who do you arrogant people think you are anyway? Do you think you own the ground where all the schools and colleges and universities in Georgia sit?

Perhaps he could have survived the DUI alone if he had been just over the limit and forthcoming. It’s the rest of the story that has doomed him. He is smarter than this incident and probably has his future secured. We do not know what provoked this behavior and should not stereotype. He screwed up; most of us do at one time or another. As a Tech fan you would think I would be enjoying this embarrassment for UGA, but I am not for two reasons. I have thought since D-Rad was hired at Tech, we had the better AD so it was and advantage for us to have Evans stay at UGA, eventhough from all reports he did a good job. The other reason is the story is so sad for him and his family, and I think it could possiibly happen to many of us that are casting stones. Too bad red panties was all Damon Evans had between his legs. Crying after you have been caught like a fool. Once the zipper is down and the deed done, you have to pay the piper. Just look at the actions and comments of the red panties girl to see the low life Evans was pursuing like a dog in heat (pardon the pun). Anyone who thinks with anything but his head is going to end up dead (dead wrong). Sounds like Evan’s hormones were doing the thinking and controlling and not his brain. DUI was bad enough but the red panties, attempted bribery and uncontrolled emotions after he realized he might lose his job seals the deal. Monday or Tuesday, there will be an announcement Damon Evans has resigned with one year severance pay for his faithful service to UGA. I would like to be able to hear what the members of the UGA Athletic Committee are saying right now. When the video is released it will have more Utube hits than we can count. All the crying from Evans, the young woman’s continual thinking power is above the law, the GSP officer doing his job … makes for a good story. What happened to the red panties? Were they kept for evidence?

TDone (July 3rd, 2010 9:36 pm) made me think of things past and things to come. When UGA pulled that stunt in Jacksonville where they left the field after practice then came back in different uniforms (all black) it didn’t work to their advantage and didn’t impress the Gators at all. But, hey, maybe they should try it again. This time the team could change into RED PANTIES. I bet that would cause everyone to lose their focus. If UGA then won the game the team could dedicate the win to Evans.

Yep…..so when you can back up your talk of winning so many wonderful years….Peach Bowl, Weedwacker Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Sugar Bowl here and there…..when was your last champ….oh yeah! Here’s another fact, Herschel Walker wasn’t even the best running back in the state in 1980, it was William Andrews. Maybe this arrest will FINALLY SHUT….no, it won’t; dang it!

At first glance, trying to get Greg McGarity to take the AD job sounds good. Having known Greg and family since I was 8 years old, I have told him, and would continue to tell him, DO NOT associate yourself with the UGA AA. He has a wonderful life in Gainesville, and is on track to more than likely be AD at UF, if not some other similar program. Greg knows the deal. Greg DOES NOT need the likes of Mike Adams, et al. But, THEY probably NEED him, so we’ll see. I just hope he stays at UF, it’s a better gig anyway. Greg is a wonderful person; a straight shooter; and works for one of the best AD’s in the business. Wish the situation was different, because I’d sure like to have him back in Athens.

You know, years ago Elvis started a trend by giving out scarfs at his live concerts. Maybe that’s all Damon Evans was guilty of here, he simply wanted to procure those red drawers in order to show the DawgNation that he loves to “hunker down!”

I am not a big religious type..but at 6 minutes prior to his new contract going into effect…”God will not be mocked!”

He has shown he is a good man. Too young for the job when he received it. He lost his moral compass when coach Dooley left…Damon might have faired better with more maturity. We are able to forgive but the actions have consequences. Yeah, he had to go. Good luck and choices to you in the future.

v8 cat and Bob K., thanks for those very sensible and balanced comments. I wrote a comment, much earlier on this blog, that addressed the need for academics, morals, and ethics to even get a mention and proper place in the institutions of higher learning, not only at UGA, but most everywhere. It has been interesting to read the comments of some that have addressed the business and money making equation of the sports culture at schools. Do we need to reset our compass? We surely do. I don’t want to come across as holier than thou, or religious either, but I do have faith in God. I implore the guardians of our pitiful and languishing educational system to examine the priorities and where it is leading.

You are 100 percent right, let the first one without sin cast the first stone…… I do believe we have a lot of perfect people casting stones. I for one am saddened by what this is doing to his family, yes he made his own bed, he made a mistake. A mistake that most anyone on this blog could have made….

I think this is a very sad situation for all parties involved. I am not sure Damon Evans should have been fired but can we truly face reality. UGA is not going to win the SEC or National Championship anytime soon. All of yall are a bunch of drunks anyway so why get rid of your leader.

Dr. Adams secured his job by lying to UGA officials (read “Behind The Hedges”; claimed he was out of town during interview process. Holed up at an Athens hotel, got briefed everyday on interviews by insiders [Leeburn?], consequently knew all the answers when interviewed last. In typical Adams style, he later charged hotel to UGA when he claimed to be on business eleswhere).
Before embarassing himself and UGA, Damon was doing a good job as AD. But one of Adams’ primary reasons for hiring someone as inexperienced was his status as a minority and how that would contribute to Adams’ desired progressive resume (remember the Total Student Index?).
Is it too much to ask for leaders who put The University ahead of their own egos and resumes unlike Adams and now Damon.
President Adams also generated national embarassment for the nation’s oldest public state university with his hires of Jim Harrick and son.
It is past time for a fresh start at the top. We deserve a better leader at the helm of our great univeristy,

He didn’t resign despite the embarrassing details in the report because people today have no honor. No shame. 30 years ago if you were caught in an embarrassing position like this the honorable and expected position to take was to gracefully resign. Not so anymore. On top of the whole situation being a very sad and unfortunate incident is the fact that this lack of shame is symptomatic of the society in which we now live.

30-24(w/980000 !) is the typical UGA reaction to everything….HOW CAN THE OTHER SEC SCHOOLS BE JEALOUS OF SUCH A JOKE SCHOOL???? When people like 30-24 realize they’re not all that, then we won’t be the laughing stocks Hollywood makes this great state out to be.

It appears that Evans would need to be fired to collect $2.9 million.
2.9 million plus the millions he has already made should carry him for the rest of his life and his family too.
Whoever drew up that contract should be fired with him.

After reading the cops report…I was wondering why a cop would ask a woman “how long has she been seeing this guy” (Evans)?…and put that comment in a police report.
Any of you attorneys out there know why this would be in a DUI police report?
I certainly understand the red panties…that might be the reason Damon couldn’t drive straight.
Red panties and a few drinks might make a BMW drift just a little.

It is time for Evans to go Now. Not later. He has already proved his worth. First he was caught red handed driving Drunk. He also had a ladies panties on his lap. It is not secret when there is a pair of panties around, something has already happened, or about to happen. I really hurt for his family because he has shown them just how much he really cares for them. Not very much I think. Let him go. Turn him loose. and don’t give him any layoff pay. period.

I just got a call from President Adams about the position of AD. I told him that my first act would be to name the field at Sanford Stadium, Dooley Field and he hung up on me.

[...] Milwaukee originally signed Gadzuric it was not an error in judgment. It was a Damon Evans kind of error in judgment. The newest Warrior along with Kurt Thomas and Primoz Brezec admirably [...]

[...] As I wrote Saturday, I think the best move would be to hire Greg McGarity, an Athens native who grew up hanging out at the UGA tennis courts, graduated from UGA and spent quite a few years with the UGA Athletic Association. He has been with the University of Florida since 1992 and currently is the senior associate athletics director there. [...]
