Making noise in Athens, new mascot, Isner, Sturdivant

Trinton Sturdivant's return could shake up the Georgia offensive line. (Georgiadogs.com)

The buzz in the sports media that those South African vuvuzelas might show up at SEC football games this fall thankfully has been put to rest by conference official Charles Bloom, who noted that Mississippi State’s cowbells earned an exception to the rule against noisemakers on the basis of tradition. “I do not believe a vuvuzela is tied traditionally into one of our institutions,” he said. But as far as Sanford Stadium, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Not even the cowbells are welcome in Athens, where the official stadium policy reads: “Artificial noisemakers (air horns, cowbells, etc.) are not permitted in Sanford Stadium. Be considerate and allow your neighbor to enjoy the game.” Organic, natural noise only, please. … I hear from the bulldog breeding community that the latest litter of bullpups sired by interim mascot Russ came up empty as far as a possible Uga VIII. That doesn’t necessarily mean Russ will get to keep the job for the whole season, though, as Sonny Seiler already had said he’d identified several puppies from the Uga VI line as potential candidates, though none will be big enough by the start of the season. I’m still inclined to think switching mascots midseason isn’t a good idea, but whatever happens, Russ will be the mascot of record at the annual fan picture day in Athens on Aug. 21. … After this week’s Wimbledon tennis marathon featuring UGA grad John Isner and his subsequent sporting of the school colors in media interviews, I think it’s pretty safe to say you can expect to see Isner honored in an on-field ceremony Between the Hedges sometime this fall. … The Macon and Columbus papers’ David Hale, unfortunately soon to depart the UGA sports beat, had a story about the impact that a returning healthy Trinton Sturdivant might have on the Dogs’ offensive line, which finally jelled in the second half of last season. Adding Sturdivant to the starting lineup might mean Chris Davis or Josh Davis would become a backup, and I know this concerns some folks. But I liked this quote from Josh: “I’m sure the best five will play every week. That’s how we’ll roll with it.” And, really, if Sturdivant (who was a freshman All American) proves he’s ready to resume his starting spot, how could that not be a good thing?

I don’t understand Sonny Seiler’s obsessive need for an “all-white” Uga.

Just let the dogs breed naturally, not selectively. The last two Ugas were far to big and had too many problems seen from the kind of selective breeding that gets you a pure white bulldog.

Russ is a healthy bulldog (although that in and of itself is kind of an oxymoron). Or I should say, he’s as healthy as a bulldog can be nowadays.

Russ is beloved by the fanbase. He saw us beat the best Tech team in two decades with the worst Georgia team we’ve had since Donnan’s first year.

He’s a GREAT mascot.

Let Russ be Uga. Or, just let him be Russ for a few years. The Return of Uga can wait. At the very least until 2011.

Don’t be so stubborn, Sonny Seiler, that you create fan backlash against you and your family!!!

Yeah, Seiler needs to be put on notice; if he doesn’t start breeding healthier dogs, UGA should take their business elsewhere. Seiler needs UGA much more than UGA needs Seiler.

I hope for his sake he can return to his All America form so whatever happens after his career is over at UGA he will be at peace with himself and the game. Back to school is getting close get your UGA retro classic tin lunchbox and be the coolest kid at school. Go Dawgs!!!

On Trinton Sturdivant, I don’t think he should be allowed to just step back into a starting role. I like the combo of Boling, Glenn, Jones, Davis, and Davis. They all have jelled together and starting to really put it on opposing defensive lines at the end of last season. I say let them continue to play together and continue to dominate. There’s nothing better than a OL that has jelled and can communicate with one another and simply take over a game.

RG: Chris Davis

You guys speaking ill of the Seiler family should be horse whipped. You have no idea what you speak of. The Seilers treat their dogs like members of the family, and they practice safe and responsible breeding. You should be ashamed for trying to ruin the name of a family that has given far more to UGA than any of you ever will.

Stupid and shameful, that’s what you all are. Next time you feel the urge to comment on something that you have no first-hand knowledge of, try not to insult a decent man with incredible accusations.

The English Bulldog has not been a working breed for over 200 years. They have been bred to be “CUTE” not healthy or able to work a farm. The Boxer and Pitbull have been bred to to work or be physically fit. The best thing UGA can do is lay in the bed, sit on ice, or waddle onto the field. The Seiler’s don’t treat their dogs that much better than most other people with family pets. My dog eats steak and eggs once in awhile, rides in the car, goes on most vacations, and has been to Tech Spring games.

before you all scream. 200 years was a joke, but the MAC Truck Bulldog is what a bulldog should look like. UGA has a bullbog on some items that has the Long Legs, Big Chest, and Lean Hind Quarters, but the English bulldog is just a fat door stop and you know it. I like them and they are cute ugly but UGA VIII doesn’t have to be all white. He needs to be Healthy and Happy.

ok, this will get me burned. but just a thought from one who bleeds r and b. why not several bulldogs, pure breds, who are of different types? i was in juneau, ak, recently; their mascot is is a bulldog, who guarded the wharfs for years, and is remembered by a bronze statue on the dock. a wonderful story. but didn’t look anything like our beloved uga. why not have four or five bulldogs run on to our field? after all, we are the ‘dawgs’, not the ‘dawg’. ‘who lets the dawgs out?’ dawgs, one and all. but all bulldogs.

BY law in the 19th centery Bulldogs weere no longer allowed in the ring to “Bait Bulls”. Average life of a Bulldog is 8 yrs. Your UGA’s get maybe then maybe 6 years of healthy time on the sidelines. Let RUSS have his time.

Reptillicide, it’s not necessary to have “first-hand knowledge” of where Seiler eats breakfast, or whatever it is you claim to know. I can simply look back at pictures of UGA I/II and see that the selective breeding has gotten out of control. I can also see where UGA VII died of a heart condition at FOUR YEARS; that sort of thing just shouldn’t be happening.

And I don’t see why Seiler should be revered as some sort of demigod in your eyes. So he supplied the UGA mascots, and got a TON of publicity for himself and his business as a result. As I said, the arrangement benefits Seiler a lot more than it does UGA.

Fact is, Bulldogs do not last as long as the average dog. That being said, Uga sure lives a pretty good life. I’m a traditionalist and like the white English Bulldog to remain. (to the haters, I’m not a racist, this is not a racist comment for I also prefer the Black Lab’s opposed to the other colored Labs)
Personally, I think that we should concentrate more on how our defense will perform during games 2 & 3 than knocking the Seiler Family(totaly uncalled for) and worrying what Dog will be our next temporary mascot for a few games.
Can’t wait for the season to begin. Go Dawgs!

I’m a troll?

Because I am filled with common sense and logic?

You people really have some READING COMPREHENSION issues.

Spoke ill of Seiler?

Please, all of you sycophantic rejects, please show me where I did so.

I said it would be a good idea to let the dogs NATURALLY breed as opposed to selectively breed.

It WOULD make for a HEALTHIER bulldog.

In fact, the English Kennel Club, or whatever they were, said the EXACT SAME THING last year.

How breeders in the US have created a mutant breed of English Bulldog that looks NOTHING like an English Bulldog.

If you people want to see what I’m talking about, here are two links.

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bulldawgs.com/images/uga_one.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bulldawgs.com/history/mascot.asp&h=500&w=356&sz=46&tbnid=LdPaS9m90SH-BM:&tbnh=130&tbnw=93&prev=/images%3Fq%3DUga%2BI&usg=__NiHgsx0fqAhHp8J7O2AqBgDdx-I=&sa=X&ei=AWkmTMOdEsT68AaaxOXRDw&ved=0CBoQ9QEwAg

Look at the differences between Uga I and Uga VII.

They don’t even look like the same breed!!!

As for the Seilers, I am sure most of them are great people. I’ve heard from some I trust that Mr. Seiler isn’t exactly the most engaging person, to put it nicely, but no one is perfect.

I have heard, however, that his son is a great, charming guy.

So please, you bunch of reactionary rejects, get your panties out of a bind.
