Will you miss customized UGA football rebroadcasts?

As a UGA football legend, Buck Belue is beloved in the Bulldog Nation for, among other things, the comeback win over Tech during his freshman year and, of course, the 1980 pass to Lindsay Scott in Jacksonville.

As a broadcaster, though, there’s less of a consensus about Belue.

Some Georgia fans love Buck and his Valdosta drawl. Others I hear from can’t stand him as a TV color analyst (or radio talk show host, for that matter).

Well, the latter group won’t have Buck to kick around any more, at least as far as the CSS rebroadcasts of Georgia football games go. UGA associate athletics director Alan Thomas confirmed to Marc Weiszer of The Athens Banner-Herald that, as had been rumored for a while now, the CSS TV rebroadcasts of Georgia football games will simply be a repeat of the SEC broadcast rather than a unique production focusing on UGA.

That means the we’ll no longer have Belue paired with Matt Stewart or Bob Neal on the games.

Actually, Belue had hinted at this back in April when he wrote in his blog that he was debating whether to continue working the games on CSS because the logistics would be tough with him now doing the Braves radio pregame show.

Those fans not particularly enamored of Belue the broadcaster might hail this news, but I’ve always liked Buck and will miss having him do the games. Even more, I’ll miss the rebroadcast being a UGA-centric look at the game, especially since we get so little in the way of replays on Mark Richt’s TV show these days. (If you can remember back to those hourlong Vince Dooley shows, you know what I mean.)

What do you think of this move? Whether you’re a fan of Belue or not, do you think the Dogs program loses something by not having a customized UGA production on the rebroadcasts? Or in this DVR age is a rebroadcast even necessary?
