Some nights, it's even greater than usual to be a Georgia Bulldog! (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)
In celebration of Jarvis Jones deciding that playing linebacker under Todd Grantham is the best way to prepare for an NFL career, here are five more reasons it’s great … to be … a Georgia Bulldog, presented in no particular order …
You get to go to school in Athens. I mean, really, is there any better college town than the Classic City? As Southern Living recently noted, there’s a vibrancy there that many other college towns can’t match. Great places to eat or drink beer. A beautiful campus. The best-looking women in the SEC. An internationally renowned music scene. Plus UGA sports. What’s not to love?
One of the most impassioned fan bases in college sports. As Mark Richt put it in an interview with Dawg Post, “There is so much passion and love for Georgia. Some of the folks have never stepped foot on campus and love it — that is their team; they want them to do well.”
You get to wear red. Not orange. Not yellow. Not blue like half the schools in the country. And not some off shade like Alabama or Arkansas wear, but rich, bright Georgia Bulldog red! Gotta love it.
The best-looking helmets in college football. And here’s a plus: As a UGA player in the future, chances are you won’t have to don the ill-fated black helmets trotted out for the Florida game last year and widely panned by the Bulldog Nation. They’re selling them off as collector’s items.
Saturdays at Sanford Stadium, the crown jewel of college football stadiums, with Uga, the best mascot in America.
That’s just scratching the surface, of course. Why else is it great to be a Georgia Bulldog?

Michigandog, you forgot #3, You can live in Georgia and see 400 pound redneck hogs wearing faded jawja t-shirts holding hands with their sister.

Um, speak for yourself, #1. No rednecks or hogs here, considering I weigh 106 pounds and grew up in suburban North Fulton county.

sweet cheeks from N. Fulton, 5′11 and 185 from Florida of course. My remark was for the moron from michigan who likes to catagorize Gator fans wearing jorts with mullets. Each state has their share of embarrassments.

“the crown jewel of college football stadiums” I think that’s stretching it a little. Knoxville, TN is pretty special.
I hope this enthusiasm for the dawgs brings some life to CMR…he needs more than prayers since Tennessee and Auburn have greatly improved. You might still be 5th or 6th in the SEC.

Cousin, go back to sleep. I will awake you in another 30 yrs. There will still be no national championship, Coach Richt will still be there, the fans will still be bragging on 1980 and Herschel Walker, and the fans will continue to get excited about how Coach Richt’s 2041 recruiting class will be unstoppable, their willing to give this man that much time. Now if they hire a great coach, then maybe I will awake you in 5 years cousin….

I agree that each state has their share of embarrassments. If I lived in a state that had more children go missing and end up murdered (see: Caylee Anthony, Haleigh Cummings, Jessica Lunsford, etc.), I wouldn’t want to live there either. Very unsafe state to raise children, if you ask me.

C’mon you other non-Dawgs: These good folks gotta have a place to crow about their school/program just like the rest of us fans do for our respective schools.
I do want to point out other places, including Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, are cited as having the best game day experience in college football.
I will admit, I pull for the dawgs vs UF. But whoever helps the Vols is the team I pull for, in honesty.
How much longer we have to wait? I dread these summer doldrums every year!

You won’t win championships but I guess some recruits get sold on the bill of good Richt is pitching them? UGA is the poster child for underachievers! And evidently the mystique is not that great when the number one receiver, OL, and RB prospect went elsewhere last year!
As for the women, most people outside of the SEC rate Ole Miss girls the best! Although there are lots of beautiful southern girls at UGA, Bama and UT too.
I will say I’d rather go to school at UGA or any other SEC school than wear Jean Shorts and Shark Tooth Necklaces and drink umbrella drinks in Gainesville!

I’m a big Tennessee fan, but I will say that each SEC school has a special game day experience for both the home team and for the visiting team. For example (from the UT point of view), The Pride of The Southland playing the opposing team’s song is a point of enjoyment, I believe, for the other team to see arguably one of the best college bands playing their fight song in front of 100 K + fans (I honestly really like to see the other fans cheering their team in hostile territory with their fight song playing, knowing it will soon be drone out with the playing of Rocky Top
…I know I do when I go to away games and am out numbered. Makes for comradery with those sitting around you). I suppose this is what makes the SEC so special. Looking forward to a great season of SEC football! Go Vols!

And the #1 reason is….
All of the moral victories!! UGA never loses a game. It is the coaches fault, the refs, the game location, preseason national champs, the helmets.. and the list goes on!!

#1 Hater-First of all, I am not a moron and second of all didn’t mention mullets-you did. Isn’t it funny how you thought to associate the two? Perhaps you got your feelings hurt because you are in fact wearing jorts, rocking a mullet while you incessantly post on this board. Keep wearing your cutoffs proudly just like your boy Tebow.
With such a crass demenor and your hatred of Georgia, you don’t have a snowballs chance in hell getting a date with any respectable girl in or out of the SEC. Why don’t you stick to begging for dates on a Gator website?

IT”S A GOOD THING THAT JARVIS JONES FINALLY CAME HOME TO PLAY FOR THE BELOVED DAWGS. HE SHOULD NEVER HAVE LEFT IN THE FIRST PLACE…….HERE’S A LITTLE ADVISE TO ALL THE 4 AND 5 STAR HIGHSCHOOL TALENT IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA= WHEN YOU PLAY FOOTBALL FOR AN S.E.C TEAM YOUR GOING TO BE A LEGEND IN THAT STATE, BUT WHEN GRADUATE YOU’RE PROBABLY GOING TO COME BACK HOME TO LIVE IN ATLANTA. SO WHAT GOOD IS IT TO BE A LEGEND IN TENN, ALABAMA OR MISS. WHY NOT STAY AT HOME, HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO…….PLUS MOST OF THESE ROSTERS IN THE S.E.C ARE LITTERED WITH GEORGIA HIGHSCHOOL PLAYERS…IF ALL U GUYS STAY AT HOME YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT,,,YALL CAN KEEP THE DAWGS ON THE MAP…..JUST THINK ABOUT THE LAST 4 S.E.C NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, THOSE TEAMS HAD LOTS OF STAR PLAYERS FROM GEORGIA……SO JARVIS I HOPE UR MAKING SURE YOUR CARVER COLUMBUS HIGHSCHOOL BUDDIES GET THE MESSAGE, THERES NOTHING GREATER THAN BEING A LEGEND IN YOUR HOME STATE AND THERE’S NO HONOR GREATER THAN BEING A GEORGIA BULLDOG!

The damn band could use some work too. They have been sloppy and weak the last few years. Learn more than two shows. 10 years ago you were the best band in the country. Now you not even the best in the SEC. FIRE the CONDUCTOR!!! Bring in some fresh blood. When was the last time James Brown played with the Redcoats!!! It is time to bring back the honor of the halftime show (since I am too lazy to wait in line for a Half hour for a drink).

Dawg In Iraq, that is a shame you guys dont get AFN where you are, you must be Army or Marines. I was deployed during football season last year, although I was in Qatar, so we had access to AFN and I got to catch most of the games, my buddy was also deployed to Balad in Iraq where he was able to watch most of them as well. I feel for you, not being able to watch the games is pure misery (I was in basic during football season…it sucked), all I can say is, try to get on one of those sweet Air Force deployments next time.

Don’t forget that UGA is always willing to pay top dollar for a football coach. Even when the instructional and academic budget is being slashed, we have money to pay the big bucks to coaches.
UGA–where we don’t even pretend to be a “real” school.
