Don’t overlook Arkansas, and Miss. State is tough to beat in Starksville(ask Urban Meyer)
Sorry to say, but the dawgs could easily have 2-3 SEC losses prior to the Florida game,
and we all know they will lose that one.

Chazzo, I’m with you on 2 out of 3. The “toughest” games I would say, are SC, UF, and Auburn. SC for a variety of reasons, not the least of all is it’s our first real game. UF of course. Auburn…Chizik probably has 2 games on his schedule as possible signature wins for him. Alabama and Georgia. Georgia, because we’ve won 4 in a row, and we will be playing something like 10 weeks in a row without a bye. This one will be brutal.

UT, I think CMR will look to have DD pay for (1) Kiffin’s mouth, and (2) DD’s own role in the Nance/Rogers recruiting trickery. If we’re up by 30, don’t expect CMR to call off the Dawgs this year.

Sure let’s talk…….

Let’s talk about the ABSOLUTE state of panic that Tech is in right now. They are sitting back and watching all the great things that are taking shape in Athens. And the Nerds can do NOTHING about it :)

I GUARANTEE that after this coming football season, the Nerds will be screaming for Paul “manboobs” Johnson’s head. They are about to see what HIS recruits can do with that HS Offense. And it is NOT going to be pretty!!

Sure, Tech can sit with their heads high when Favors goes in the top 5 in the NBA draft, and they wil undoubtedly run their mouths about how many UGA players were drafted….but then reality will set in for them. Our NBA talent decided to stay in Athens for another season, consequently attracting Mr. Georgia Basketball, among others, to join the happenings. Tech will still have Hewitt, and a NOBODY team who wil get waxed by a rebuilding UNC and every other ACC school next year. I am glad UGA plays basketball at Tech next year so we can see the tears from the Nerds ourselves.

Baseball….. who the hell in the state of Georgia cares about baseball outside of Turner Field…..

I figure since Tech is so obsessed with hating us, I can make a single post dedicated to the fact that I hate them more than they could ever scream their little “THWG” chant. Karma is a b**** Techies… and it’s biting you now.

Frank you are ABSOLUTELY correct, could be 10 could be 6. But, for the first time in years, the Bulldog Nation, myself included, is optimistic, believing we are at least “in” every game.

Was checking out a couple other posters’ “highlight play of 2009″ (mine was Samuel’s 80 yards against AR, someone else said B Smith’s end-around vs SC, also Caleb’s long TD agaist GT) and man, that youtube video “2009 Georgia vs GT Highlights” got me too exited way to early for this coming season. Ealey and King behind a good O line should be fun. Didn’t realize some GT players wanted to pick a fight on the last play.

Three were 1st-teamers, and one was a 2d-teamer. How do you explain what Butch has put together on defense at UNC?

Speaking of recruiting news…

Some pretty reliable sources seem to think that we have a VERY good chance to land Mr. Charone Peake from South Carolina. Probably won’t know for sure until after this seasons high school ball is over with.

LeMay’s commitment apparently carries some serious weight with more than a few recruits out there. That will give us three 4-star (Conley and Peake may be 5’s by the time it’s all said and done) WR’s and another ATH who can play both ways. That should close out this particular need on the roster.

If CMR and staff don’t offer any more receivers then that sources validity could prove true.

And Vaughters is seriosly considering us now, so don’t assume he is an automatic get for UF or Bama.

OL, DL, DB, and LB will be the focus for from here on. Maybe one RB.

That would definitely put us in the top three at least.

Does anyone know if there are any plans in the works (and if so, when, and by how much) to enlarge the seating capacity in the stadium? I thought I had heard or read that there may be a plan to enlarge it some, but still not close off the bridge opening.

George G., my Auburn buddies tell me, losing to Alabama tops the list of course, and Georgia is definitely second. Auburn is feeling 4 years of that. Trust me, it’s a signature win, and Chizik would most certainly use that in recruiting players from the state of Georgias.

Agree or disagree, we both know it will be a heck of a game again this year!

I’m afraid we are going to take a step back on defense seeing as how Rennie Curran made all the outside tackles, and Owens and Atkins were able to negate the middle running game. Hopefully, others will step in and step up. Is Samuels going to redshirt this year? The last I heard, Richt hadn’t made up his mind yet and would see if he was in the top two or three first.

Are there any JUCO transfers coming in this year on defense? I know we have gotten guys from Georgia Military College before to plug immediate needs. I’m just trying to figure out how everyone sees us being so much better on defense simply by a change in philosophy/coordinator.

Defense better? Good questions. Curran, Owens, Atkins and Weston will all be missed and hard to replace.

The hope/belief is, (1) the 3-4 will be picked up quickly by the new players, and (2)the knowledge and coaching ability of the 3 new assistant coaches will show greatly on the field providing more “looks” on D as well as much more pressure into the backfield.

No decision yet on Richard Samuel.

Thanks for your answers. Hopefully, there will be a new attitude with the defense this year. Smith and Boykin should be really exciting this year also. They have so much potential, speed, etc… They had some freshman growing pains early on last season but now with some experience, I can see them becoming lock down corners as the season progresses. This could be a season like 2007 where we come on strong the second half of the season. The South Carolina game is so pivotal. With Florida playing LSU, Bama, South Carolina, they could have two losses. Same with South Carolina. So I think the East could be interesting with the winner having possibly two losses.

South Carolina has some freshman running back that is supposed to be the missing ingredient for them. He may be a threat running the ball, but do you think he will be able to pass block enough early in the season to worry us a lot? I know it is hard for most guys to come in and pass block well enough to play a lot of downs. (At least that is the case at Georgia it seems)

Does anyone know how tall DJ Shockley is? I’m just curious about the comparison of Shockley to Murray. A mobile qb. Obviously Murray doesn’t have Stafford’s arm, but maybe he could be comparable to Shockley? Like a lot of others, I cringed at his performance in the G-Day game, between struggling to find receivers, to looking like he was having to put a lot of effort to get any zip on the ball. But, I know he is a highly touted qb, and Tony Barnhart says he is all that. So, maybe there is more to him than I’m realizing.

Sometimes I like to read your blog, Bill, then other times I think you are a “POT STIRRER”….You’re like a lot of UGA fans, when the Dawgs lose a couple they are favored in, its time to question or run off the coaches…But then when they do good and end up #2 in the nation, we want to get on the “love train.” I’m with the coaches and the Dawgs in either situation, cause I know the coaches involved and know they are doing the best they possibly can….GOT A LITTLE DEAL FOR YOU BILL THAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO READ, HERE GOES: It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. Auburn, Arky and Miss State are all in the West. Technically, UGA could drop 1 or 2 of those and still play in Atlanta if they win the head to head with SC, UT, and UF. Of course, they also have to beat Vandy and Ky. I am in no way saying that it is an easy schedule and these are the only decent teams they play. I am saying that they are the have to wins.

Defense better?…. totally agree, SC is a pivotal game, and oh so dangerous for us, in Columbia, Spurrier loves beating the Dawgs, first test of a brand new D. Add to that the missing ingredient, Marcus Lattimore, that you mentioned. The kid is supposed to be the real deal.

Actually looking for tickets so and bud and I can go. They will be EXTREMELY hard to come by. That will be an awesome game.

All of us eagerly await the upcoming season with the greatest of hopes and expectations, but lets not forget the lessons we should have learned from the past two seasons. We must temper our enthusiasms with a healthy dose of reality. We compete in the SEC; the toughest conference in America. Any one of those conference opponents has the ability to beat us. I love the off season speculation because it’s fun for the moment, but we can’t let it become a DISTRACTION! We must play one team at a time with full focus on, and full respect for, that team Only. Right now, the only team on our schedule is the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Dawgs GATA!!!

Bold Predictions for next year

-Georgia will have the best secondary in the SEC. Boykin, Williams, Rambo, Smith, Ogletree, and Hamilton. Tons of talent back there.

-By seasons end Orson Charles will be considered one of the best tightends in the country.

-Dawgs will lose on the road to Miss. State after beating SC in a lose game and winning against Arkansas in another shootout

I’m hoping we can get someone with a football IQ to run this blog. Maybe even somebody who doesn’t look like a hillbilly Jerry Garcia wanna be. Perhaps younger would be better too? Nimrods like Bill King, that use a public blog to lambast college players, don’t deserve to call themselves a true fan. Bill is really a jealous idiot that was a huge dork in high school.
Hey, lets throw Bill in the secondary and see how easy it is for him. Maybe he can angle sunrays into lasers with those coke bottles he calls glasses, that’s about the only chance his potbellied self would have. Better yet, let’s put Bill up in the box with some headphones and see what he can dial up. He’s the idiot that would get burned by a skinny post trying to all out blitz.

I get as upset as anyone else when the Dawgs don’t win. I wear my fandom on my sleeve and others are quick to make potshots and criticisms when bad things happen. Bill King, nor any other so-called fan, shouldn’t be one of them. Especially not on a public forum.

Ask yourself why Southern men are constantly given negative sterotypes and then look at Bill and some of the junk he puts on here.

D. J. Shockley is over 6 feet tall slightly, weighs 218, is significantly faster than Aaron Murray and D. J. has a far better arm than Aaron Murray.

D. J. Shockley is taller, weighs more, has a better arm and is faster than Aaron Murray. Aaron Murray is small, short, does not have a great arm like D. J. does, and is not fast at all at 4.7 in the 40-yard dash, as Aaron Murray weighs 198 lbs. and is just under 6 feet tall.

D. J. Shockley has signed first a $ 1 . 7 million dollar contract after being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, and more recently another contract with the Atlanta Falcons. He has looked great in preseason games, but has yet to throw a pass in a regular season NFL game. David Greene has a poor arm, always has, is dead on his feet slow, not an athlete, and looked absolutely horrible in NFL preseason games. David Greene ended his career in the NFL having never thrown an NFL pass. D. J. Shockley is in his 3rd year in the NFL. The year when D. J. Shockley got injured in the NFL was the same year he would have hit the field. Then, the next season we drafted Matt Ryan.

D. J. Shockley and Aaron Murray because of their size, have always had injury issues. David Greene never did. Matthew Stafford never did. D. J. Shockley was and is a LOT BETTER QUARTERBACK than David Greene. D. J. Shockley won 1 SEC Championship in his only year, and was great. David Greene won 1 SEC Championship in his 4 years, and it because of our Defense, not David Greene.

Both D. J. Shockley and David Greene did NOT turn the football over. Aaron Murray threw the fewest touchdown passes and most interceptions in all 3 scrimmages. D. J. Shockley set the Record for The University of Georgia for Most Touchdowns by a Quarterback in the History of UGA football. Not the most TD passes, but the Most TD including his world-class speed, something Aaron Murray at 4.7 in the 40-yard dash does not compare to D. J. Shockley in.

D. J. Shockley is short for a QB.

Aaron Murray is slower, shorter, smaller, and has no where near the arm of D. J. Shockley.

If Zach Mettenberger were here, he would be the QB, which is why Coach Richt did not play him last year against Okie State. Coach Richt knows who he wants to be his QB. That is and has been Aaron Murray, as it was Joe Cox last year and as it was Matthew Stafford, and as it was D. J. Shockley and as it was David Greene.

With the improved defense and special teams coaching this season, there is every reason to believe that since we had a 9-4 (13 games) season 2006 with no QB prepared and since we had an 8-5 (13 games) season 2009 with no QB prepared, that we can post a 9-4 or 10-3 with no QB prepared this season.

Aaron Murray will be a good QB for us. He needs to get his grades up. He needs to study the playbook. He needs to get in the weight room and build up his arm strength and his leg strength. He needs to add some meat. But, beating Florida in this blog is B.S. in May as a redshirt freshman who spent all last year injured from 3 different injuries not the least of which is he threw his throwing arm out missing 21 Fall Practices last year.

We have NO ONE BEHIND Aaron Murray.

NO ONE.

Aaron Murray will NEVER beat out Christian LeMay who is 6 ‘ 2 “ with world class speed and a great arm. NEVER.

I believe you missed the mark (no pun intented) about Richt not calling off the Dawgs even if they are up on UT by 30 next fall. He doesnt have that mentality in him, and I’m glad. Its what seperates him from the Urban Cryers of the coaching ranks. But furthermore, he has too much respect, admiration, and gratitude for Vince Dooley to run the score up on son Derek….it won’t happen, period, end of story.

Like LK didn’t call off the Vols last year..? By OCT, Tennessee will either be looking to survive the season or show the growth of a very young O. Their defense will be decent. I learned never to count my chickens blah blah. It’s a hoot how rah-rah fans never do…Never.

Dawg Days…my initial thoughts were just as yours, but after considering that questions are being openly asked, does CMR have what it takes? Does he have the killer instinct? (some in articles this week) I think the CMR that slowed things down against FSU to show respect for Coach Bowden may take a day off on this one.

Remember, the Nance/Rogers incident is the only time CMR has ever personally requested (initiated) and NCAA inquiry into recruitment.

You could be right, the game is a long way off, and he may simmer down.

The bottom line is, DD’s job won’t be decided by our game, whether we win by 17 or 35. The kid is in a no-win situation, so much so that UT is selling “mini-packages” of tickets to try to fill the stadium for 2010.

Who could ever imagine a UT-Florida game as part of a “mini-package.”

Interesting in that Tebow is making waves with the Denver Broncos at the organized team activities. He is winning sprints by 10-15 yards every time and fist bumping guys in the huddle and the veterans don’t know what to make of him. He is also pretending to take the snap, taking a 3 to 5 step drop and pretending to throw a ball when it isn’t his rep 20 yards behind the qb whose rep it is rather than stand and watch the action on his off reps. Nobody has ever seen a qb do this.

The Denver media hasn’t seen anything like this work ethic (this isn’t even training camp, it is OTA’s) and this franchise has been to 5 superbowls winning 2. Who knows if he will develop into an NFL QB, but his work ethic and passion are becoming legendary. It may alienate him from the rest of the team as he is definately not fitting into the culture.

Thought some might find this interesting on the former SEC player and main rival.

Thanks for sharing. I hated Tebow. I didn’t like the sugary sweet image love affair. But, the truth of the matter is that his work ethic in phenomenal. It is the key to success and leadership, and it is a great example. On top of all of that, apparently he is genuinely that frickin’ nice and happy. I think we can all learn a lot from that kid.

And, personal note. During Vick’s first couple of years in ATL, I coached youth football with a former NFL vet. He played 13 years and has 2 Super Bowl rings, from his years as Elway’s LT.

I asked his opinion of Vick. His reply was very short, “he’d better learn to slide!”

when UGA commits to running the ball against the Gators, Vols, Tigers and Jackets, they win. Consider: Florida 2007: 196 yards on the ground. Tennessee 2008: 148 yards on the ground. Auburn: 169 yards on the ground. Georgia Tech 2009: 349 yards on the ground. In all 4 of these wins the team rushed for over 100 yards. swampratdog, the quick and dirty is, UGA had Da’Rick Rogers “wrapped up.” UT came in (not certain but believe it was Coach Jim Chaney) and discovered that Rogers was best friends with his HS QB Nash Nance. Suddenly in January 2010, Nance is a hot commodity to UT and gets an offer…..go figure!

Bottom line, very late in the game, UT put on a full court press for Nance. I read a quote where Nance stated, Dooley gave him compliments telling him he could be a top QB in the SEC, etc.

There were rumors that Nance’s dad promised Da’Rick, if he attended UT, a car and cell phone so he could talk to and visit his mom, etc.. Even if that is true it will never be proven. Regardless, Richt was HOT, personally initiated an inquiry by the NCAA….. He even mentioned it during NSD.

Forget reporting to the NCAA, possible violations, etc., Richt needs to remember this incident each and every time we play UT from this point forward. He should also continuously remember LK’s promise to NEVER lose to Georgia again.

DJ Shockley is no longer with the Falcons. He was beaten out last year for the 3rd team qb spot on the roster by JP Wilson formerly of Bama and aka sarah jessica parker wilson to Bama fans.

Also Christian Lemay does not have “world class” speed. That’s the nuttiest thing I’ve ever heard said about a recruit. The overhype on this kid has reached epic proportions when people say he has world class speed. He’s a high school qb and could just as easily end up being like a lot of formerly high touted high school qbs like Ron Powlus, DJ Shockley, Jordan Jefferson, Russell Shepard Star Jackson at Bama. The Jackson kid is an interesting story cause he was a former super 11 qb recruit who is transferring because its obvious he will never be the starter there.

Now that we’re officially in the off-season, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to take an in-depth look at UGA and have a free-ranging discussion about the problems at UGA and why the arrest rate of players is the highest in the country? it’s common knowledge that UGA is a party school, but have any football players every actually graduated with a real degree? Jan Kemp exposed the school and the coaches almost three decades ago, but there is no sign that anything has improved; if anything, the arrest rate shows that things are getting more outrageous every year while Mark Richt – a decent fellow with no coaching skills – has no clue what to do.

UGA has become a major embarrassment to all Georgians, and we want some answers starting now.

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Rushing ball might not be the only answer, but when the Dawgs have success in most of their games it’s because they are able to establish the run. Look at the Auburn game this past year. The Dawgs got down 14-0 in the 1st quarter and instead of panicking and ditching the run, they stayed patient with it and eventually they won the game. Running the ball might not be the only answer, not turning the ball over is definitely a huge part of the equation as well. But the Dawgs have had tons of turnovers in the passing game the last few seasons vs. Florida, hence the lopsided scores. I say run the ball on 1st down, and mix the run with play action passing on 2nd and 3rd. It’s a good place to start.

$750K, this has been explained before. The Athletic Dept. is it’s own entity and pays it’s own way, totally separate, financially and otherwise, from the education side of the university. Last year, Georgia’s Athletic Dept. budget showed income over $84M and expenses close to $69M.

Football in particular, at UGA , like most schools, pays for itself totally as well as funding other sports that wouldn’t survive otherwise.

As for football season, Georgia should be better than last season just based on schedule. I know they won’t put too much pressure on Aaron Murray early but there will come a time when he will have to win a game for Georgia. Hopefully he will be ready and stay healthy. Hopefully the run game will produce like at the end of last season and the defense should be improved just by staying off the field more.

With sanctions imminent for the Trojans, the talking heads at ESPN’s College Football Live had a spirited discussion last Thursday on what should happen to USC’s vacated title. It appears more and more likely that both the BCS and the Associate Press will strip the school of its 2004 National Championship once penalties are handed out. For Bush it also means a possible loss of his coveted Heisman Trophy.

In the case of the BCS, they have two simple options: force USC to vacate the title and not have a 2004 champion or award the title to either Auburn or Oklahoma. How likely is the BCS to pick a new champion? I’d put it somewhere between slim and none. USC will almost surely be forced to vacate, but a new champion will not be crowned.

The Associate Press is an entirely different story.

Many believe the writers will crown a new champion. ESPN analysts Craig James and Ed Cunningham clearly favor giving the title to Auburn. An undefeated season in the SEC coupled with the throttling Oklahoma took from USC in the championship game, makes it a no brainer – at least according to those two.

James believes it’s quite possible the AP will crown Auburn champions. “In my mind, if USC is stripped of the title, Auburn becomes the national champion,” said James. “For what Auburn did that season, I have always thought it was an injustice.”

Asked whether fans in Auburn should celebrate such an occurrence, Cunningham said, “Absolutely. There will be toilet paper everywhere at Toomer’s Corner.”

Could Auburn be on the verge of a national title? Say the NCAA hammers USC, and the BCS and the AP take away the national titles they awarded the Trojans and their semi-pro tailback, Reggie Bush. Say the BCS revisits its policy on the subject and the AP re-votes, and one or both of those organizations decides to correct the greatest injustice of the BCS era by crowning, as the rightful champs, the Auburn Tigers. What should Auburn do six years later? Please. That’s easy. Accept it. Celebrate it. And never, ever apologize for it.

You need to see this info from one of the other blog spots. It concerns the oversigning of high school recruits. It is a questionable practice that can be very detrimental to college football prospects, and Nick Saban needs to be dragged into the spotlight and exposed: Warning, Warning, Warning!!!

gRindL88, it was a long year for Georgia in baseball. The only way I can explain it is that we are young in the field and have probably the worst pitching coach in major college. The bats came around late in the seaon.. and the pitching… well that was pretty much terrible all season. Heck, Duke and Baylor were just about the only teams not score double digits against us this year.

Question: what’s going to be Tech’s excuse this season for once again failing to reach Omaha?? I mean that 2 and BBQ in 06 was a while ago… so was the 2 BBQ in 2002… and when was that only other trip the team made… 85???? Talk about doing less with more… my money is on Coach Hall, but he did sweep the worst team the SEC has seen in 15 years, and hats off to Hall for that!!!

Looking way ahead to the next Tech-UGA game. With respect to Tech, I think Groh’s 3-4 will be much improved over Womack’s 4-3 last year (of course, Womack didn’t exactly set a high bar for defensive aptitude last year, especially against the run). For UGA, do you think Grantham’s 3-4 can replicate Martinez’s successful plan against Tech last year?
