Don’t let spring break stop the Dawg talk

georgia logoI know a lot of you are off this week because many schools are on spring break. I’m taking off the first half of the week, but the Blawg will return on Thursday as we get ready for the G-Day game at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

In the meantime, keep checking out those spring practice reports in Tim Tucker’s beat blog, and feel free to continue talking UGA sports right here.

Until Thursday …

Go Dogs!

Wondering?

I’m wondering if you can connect the dots between off field behavior to on field behavior? The Dawgs especially on defense and wide receiver talk a lot of smack during the game. I watched the Under Armor HS all star game and could not believe the amount of talking smack that was going on. Just seems like there is a culture of non-discipline. My observation is that Coach Johnson of Tech doesn’t put up with this, and has more on field discipline by the Tech Players. UF certainly talks major smack and has major problems with its players off the field. But, it seems like UF has had more on-field discipline (less penalties). I wonder if this was the result of the greatness of Tim Tebow in bringing responsibility and accountability on the field? Seems like a lot of parallels between FSU and UGA with CMR and Coach Bowden. Are CMR and Coach Bowden (both wonderful Christian men) not hard enough as to discipline? Does every program really need a “hard nose” Christian type leader like Tebow or no nonsense coach like CPJ at Tech?

Lunch break so I can give more comments. I wonder if the Dawgs are recruiting the “right” type of athletes? What’s better? — (A) the 5 star HS players with “MeAngelo Hall” type heads that have great physical ability but never can achieve on field greatness because they can not control their emotions and lack discipline or (B) the 2 and 3 star HS players that have their head on straight and have a Team perspective rather than a ME first attitude. While Basketball is not exactly the same as Football, look at the success of the mid-majors like Butler against all the 5 star loaded (future NBA high draft picks) college teams. While I don’t think the Lane Kiffin type coaches are going to be successful long term on the field, I think they will continue to be highly successful in recruiting 4 and 5 star players — telling these MeAngelo types what they want to hear — come here and do what you want to do, have fun, be pampered and be treated as privileged, and be a 1st round draft pick!

Something else to think about — Is UGA football following in the same footpaths of the decline of great programs at FSU and Miami because of lack of discipline? Look at how Miami appears to be turning things around to return to greatness by having a hard nose no BS coach in coach Shannon.

Wondering? Miami turning it around? Where have you been, the Canes suck and if they don’t improve, Shannon is gone.

Gosh, I think going 9-4 with some pretty nice wins over GT and OK was kinda turning it around from where the Miami program had fallen to. I think Coach Shannon is trying very hard to “rebuild the right way” as a no nonsense coach. Miami was clearly Thug U in their fall.

“Bull Dawg not to inject common sense to your rant..but whoever proved anyone was drunk in that taxi? The couple who were out drinking said so…BFD they admited they were drunk..it wasn’t the police hard to prove someone is drunk 2 days after the fact. And last I looked it was still legal to be out a 2:00 a.m in a college town.”

That is your excuse for the fine job of breaking it up that our 18-year old recruit from last year’s recruiting class with Montez Robinson, did ? I mean he and the other 3 who got into the Taxi were reported by witnesses as being drunk. It was 2:04 a.m. on a day when Spring Practice was not that day, but the next day. The other 3, with our recruit from last year’s recruiting class playing peace maker, told the woman that they were going to gang bang her, told both the woman and the man to turn around “if he wanted to live.” They then hit or slapped the man. They then slapped the woman. I just have to say that that is a fine job of being a peace maker with our Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Player out running around at 2:04 a.m. with these 3 crimials. He did a really fine job of breaking it up. Just imagine if he hadn’t broken it up, what would have happened. Our football player is such a hero being out with these 3 at 2 a.m. I would not want to turn evidence on those 3, I can tell you that.
