Don’t let spring break stop the Dawg talk

georgia logoI know a lot of you are off this week because many schools are on spring break. I’m taking off the first half of the week, but the Blawg will return on Thursday as we get ready for the G-Day game at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

In the meantime, keep checking out those spring practice reports in Tim Tucker’s beat blog, and feel free to continue talking UGA sports right here.

Until Thursday …

Go Dogs!

Carolina Gator Lover how’s CUM’s rehab working out its been a week without a meltdown..so do you think he is on the road to recovery..or still a ticking time bomb? And IF any UGA players were part of that taxi deal they should be kicked off the team if they were..just like that Gator DE that beat up the two girls was.But you have to actually name them and then charge them first.

Carolina Gator Lover,
You’re so intent on finding out about our DUI arrests, but wasn’t it a gator who was passed out drunk in his still running car(still in gear too) at a stoplight?! And, it was the week before the SEC Championship! One of your top DE. A truly prepared and classy bunch indeed… intelligent too. Can’t forget that.

“Carolina Gator Lover how’s CUM’s rehab working out its been a week without a meltdown.”

Worry less about Urban and worry more about Mark “2-7″ Richt. Worry that Urban and Saban are beating him up in the recruiting game. Worry that right now either one is coming into Georgia and taking top talent. Finally always remember that Urban Meyer is 4-1 against Richt and has brought the Gators 2 National Titles.

Every school has these situations and unfortunately it is more a reflection on our society than on any one school or coach. Mark Richt can’t follow these guys around in taxis to make sure they aren’t being unruly anymore that Urban Meyer can go undercover in Gainesville clubs to make sure his guys conduct themselves properly. But I think what ALL coaches need to start doing is being less tolerant when some of these behaviors happen. Striking a woman or threatening a sexual act should be a no brainer even if it’s a first offense. Firing a gun in a threatening manner towards anyone should be an automatic “see ya later”. I think if all coaches took this stance, you’d see a lot less of this behavior and even if you did, you wouldn’t see it for long…

We went into Tiger Stadium which is one of the best and most intimidating places to play on a Saturday night no less. The crowd was pumped and very noisy. After every series it became aware that the Tigers just couldn’t move the ball, we held them to a field goal and got the W. Richt could only dream of going in that stadium and holding LSU, 2 time BCS Champs, to 3 points.

Somebody needs to show Richt how to treat young men…I mean that’s real class saying he (Robinson) is kicked off the team while he is still in lockup…ever heard of getting up in the young mans’ grill and laying down the law. UGA recruits way too many nuckleheads, that Richt and crew will just pat on the head and tell ‘em not to do silly little things. How about explaining to these young men that if you do anything that even remotely cast UGA in a bad light…you will lose your free ride and be sent packing within 24 hrs. It’s time CMR mans’ up about the recruits he brings in. And please learn to recruit Georgia and quit worrying about some kid in Florida that UF won’t even recruit because they’ve checked him out and found the kid to be a nucklehead.

Getting arrested, etc. Wonder when the police will conclude the investigation of 4 alleged football players bullying and slapping around a white man and his wife. Or will they just kinda look the other way. Buncha worthless thugs. This is one out of control program that makes the Miami hurricanes of the 80s look like choir boys.

I don’t know what to say when these guys make the choices they do. That said, I think UGA under Richt cares much MORE than most universities do about their student-athletes. We begin by turning away a number of athletes that get accepted by other major programs, then we discipline them more consistently when they get out of line while a part of the program, and we dump them when they’ve gotten excessive. The sporting world isn’t perfect, but athletes across the board should be held more accountable for their actions when they are representing more that themselves.

The Dawgs are taking care of business in the spring, installing the 3-4 D which will be the best in the SEC–bank on it! I can’t see many teams with the talent and coaching to challenge UGA this year. Florida’s going to be way down–they lost their top 3 players on O and D and no way they replace tebow with brantley, who’s a passer but nothing else. Grantham’s D will shut him down cold. I see Ga winning the SEC east with only 1 SEC loss and playing bama for the SEC title. The Dawgs are back in 2010—florida’s run is over.

He’s quitting, he’s staying, he’s taking time off, he’s not taking time off, he’s chewing out some minor reporter from a third rate paper with all of the cameras and recorders catching the action, he’s apologizing to the same reporter…privately…It’s all covered on ESPN so all the world can laugh at your unstable coach. No, I assure you, the Dogs are definitely NOT the laughing stock of the SEC right now.

I’m so envious every Spring. The nation focuses on the greatest of all sporting events in the NCAA Basketball Championship Game, and we (UGa and Tech) are always on the back row, behind the Davidsons, the Butlers, the Richmonds, the Wingates, all teams which we dwarf in terms of school size, facilities, and alumni. I guess Ga. just ‘Isn’t for Basketball” (”Va. is for Lovers”).

The news that 4 UGA football players could “POSSIBLY” be involved has had everyone in the fan base worried that this time would really give the program a black eye. In a situation such as that was appearing to be, alchohol would have been involved, there would have been multiple suspensions and some serious damage to the image of the university, the football program, the players, and the entire coaching staff.

Coach Richt has a great opportunity here to show his team that even when they are not in the wrong, they live under a tremendous microscope and every move they make is being watched and nothing they do will go unnoticed in the age of technology that we live in. Something will be caught on video phone, audio record, or video camcorder. Twitter, facebook, myspace all make information ready at a click of a button, and bad news travels faster than good news in most cases.

The young man and member of the football team who did the right thing has a lesson to learn here though. The police report says the incidents took place at 2:04am on that late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. 2:04am? Really? If I am Coach Richt, I gently put my arm around his shoulders and ask him kindly to please BE IN HIS DORM at 2:04am from now on.

Sure he did the right thing, but the young men he was hanging out with obviously were not. He needs to also watch who he is associating himself with. I dont know what kind of curfew rules there are for the football team or any of the student-athletes at the University of Georgia, but im sure there isnt a place in there encouraging them to be downtown at 2:04am where anything can be assumed and accused. (as we have just witnessed)

This is a very good opportunity for the coaches to do a little teaching, tighten up some rules, and thank God that nothing happened. This time.

I hate to agree with Saint Simons. I’m an alumn, but there is some truth to UGA becoming Thug U. CMR better grow a set and come down hard on these young men. Building character? How? When a team depends on you and you pull the stupid stunts and criminal acts that some of them have, one has to wonder if the inmates are running the institution. This has been a perfect storm brewing. If you gave me a free ride to UGA, I wouldn’t be getting tanked at downtown bars or beating up women. Disgusting.

I don’t know what you mean “nothing happened.” A football player was drunk at 2:04 a.m. and out with 3 dire criminals. He did such a great job of seeing to it that nothing happened, drunk at 2:04 a.m. that his cohorts out with him threatened to gang bang a woman, hit her and the man with her. This is supposed to be good news after Montez Robinson as a football player beat up a girl student for the 2nd time and in between both of those broke her lights on her vehicle. 1 game, then another 2 game and now kicked off the team suspensions for that football player after our QB a leading candidate for Starting QB got into it with the police disorderly conduct obstruction and oh by the way, both are underage alcohol.

THIS just since the beginning of Spring Practice. God help us during the Summer when we have no supervision for our 90 now arrested / suspended in the Coach Richt Era.

We are young and have new coaching, there will be a learning curve, and lets keep Richt from pulling gimmicks like he has done in the past. Montez Mania 1st off answer the question is CUM on the road to recovery or headed to LA-LA land? Bull Dawg not to inject common sense to your rant..but whoever proved anyone was drunk in that taxi? The couple who were out drinking said so…BFD they admited they were drunk..it wasn’t the police hard to prove someone is drunk 2 days after the fact. And last I looked it was still legal to be out a 2:00 a.m in a college town.
