When will Mark Richt get to hoist one of these crystal babies like Nick Saban? Or will he? (Associated Press)
It’s that time of year between signing day and the beginning of spring practice when college football fans look ahead with optimism. That certainly applies in the Bulldog Nation, where many, if not most, fans appear to have concluded that the 2010 season will see an improvement in the Dogs’ on-field performance. A frequent refrain I’m hearing is that 10 wins, at least counting the bowl if not in the regular season, doesn’t seem out of reach, even with all the questions surrounding this team.
And if you then look ahead to 2011, with a year of experience at QB and the new defensive scheme established and battle-tested and a fairly advantageous schedule, well, the sky seems to be the limit in many fans’ estimation.
Yes, just three months after the debacle that was the game against Kentucky, some Dogs fans are daring to think BCS national championship in 2011. We’re nothing if not resilient. (Or deluded, I’m sure Bama and Florida fans will say.)
One of those true believer Dawg fans recently raised the issue with Olin Buchanan, Rivals.com college football senior writer, asking him when he saw Georgia winning another national championship. “I’m hoping 2011 is our year,” the fan added.
After retracing Georgia’s history winning national titles and having some years where a catch or two might have provided the opportunity for another, Buchanan didn’t exactly give the fan the answer he was hoping for.
“Most championship teams have strong defenses and reliable, experienced quarterbacks,” he noted. “This past season, Georgia had neither. Junior Logan Gray and redshirt freshmen Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger will compete to be this fall’s starting quarterback. We’ll have to see if one emerges as a reliable passer. Meanwhile, coordinator Todd Grantham was brought in to bolster a defensive unit that was the third-most generous in the SEC last season. Can he rebuild that unit back to usual SEC standards? Again, we’ll see.”
So how do you feel about Georgia’s prospects? Is a 10-win season this year the minimum you would find acceptable? Do you really think the Dogs, probably minus A.J. Green, can surpass Florida and Alabama out of the SEC and become a BCS championship contender in 2011? If not then, when? On the latter point, feel free to vote in the poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

As a 47 yr old life long Ga fan, I have given up hope on the Dawgs winning a nat champ anytime soon because the truth is we don’t have an elite head coach and a nat champ cannot be won without one. It pains me to say this but in the cold light of objectivity CMR is on a slightly better than avg coach, and he only rates that because he has always been a great recruiter. I was as guilty as anyone when it came to making excuses for him thru the yrs. I think back to the yr he finally broke thru and beat the hated gators and won the SEC but a stupid loss to UT, AT HOME, without their starting QB kept us from playing for the nat champ. And why, because they weren’t ready to play, too many penalties, didn’t block consistantly, poor tackling. It all sounds familiar now but I made excuses for him like a lot of people did. But I saw the light when I took my sons to the ALA game in 08 and sat dazed at halftime (down 31-0) wondering why I had shelled out big money to see the worst half of performance of any GA game I had ever seen. That team that had enough talent to start out NO 1, finish 9-3 with 3 terrible losses, and could have easily had 5 losses with their terrible play at AUB and KY made me finally admit that the team was poorly coached. So last yr was no suprise to me. A team that so often can’t tackle, can’t block, can make stupid penalties, can choose to make awful mental errors at the absolute worst time goes back to it’s head coach. CMR is one of the finest men in the state as a person. However, his teams, too often, don’t fear him, show a lack of self discipline, and don’t do the little things on a consistant basis. Therefore I gave up to big dreams with my Dawgs as long as CMR is there. Mediocreties of the world I give you Mark Richt. May his reign end soon.

Please pass the pipe. Meyer and Saban are eons ahead of Richt at this juncture..
with fewer year on the job.
We are definately 2nd tier in the SEC at the present time. It’s going to take a big

18 percent of us say UGA will win the BCS NC this year 2010.
That’s ALL. 18 percent of UGA fans say BCS NC this year 2010.
You really are too funny Bill King. And, your posters even more so.
14-game season, and 10-wins that’s our expectation. 9-4 or 10-3.
No Quarterback ready this season, again. As always. Recurring them on Offense around here, isn’t it ? John Brantley is ready. We are NOT.
Sky is NOT the limit. Maybe you should have waited until you saw the results of your Poll before you concluded that MOST if NOT ALL of us see the SKY as the LIMIT for UGA. We have serious OFFENSIVE concerns.
18 percent of us say UGA will win the BCS NC this year 2010.
DISNEYdawgs.com
I would like to be hopeful for the future.
Choices ?
Well, not until Coach Richt is gone, that’s not good choice. I like Coach Richt.
14 seniors on this team this season, and don’t forget we lose a lot more than just AJ Green as a Junior after this year too.
5 more Juniors will leave UGA after this season for The NFL.
It is reality.
How many of them are Starters ?
All of them are.
All.
.
The attempted redshirt of Washaun Ealey until the 3rd quarter of the 5th game when he ended up our leading rusher, and the actual redshirt of Knowshon Moreno so we only got to see him 2 years stand out on Offense. But, did you know that Washaun Ealey for all he did last season, only started 2 games and not even the last 2 ? Marlon Brown we could not teach to play wide receiver last year, but we played him for 2 passes of 15 yards against the vols. We did not throw the football to Marlon Brown the entire rest of the season. 2 passes, and we lose a year. Marlon Brown balked at all this in the newspaper, followed by UGA Offensive Coaching Staff being unable to Sign ANY of the All-Star Recruits in the State of Georgia this season. He is supposed to be good, but we cannot teach him to be wide receiver and can teach AJ Green. Or was AJ Green already All-America when we gave a great running back the cushy job of coaching AJ Green ? Which is it ? What about Tight End Aron White ? He caught all of 3 total passes all of his freshman year. For that, he was made the Starter. Orson Charles had 23 catches his Freshman Year last year, but was held back as the Starter because of Aron White’s 3 catches all season long the year before. In the 12th game of a 13-game season last season, Orson Charles became the Starter, finally. The running back who was made Starter despite his fumble costing us the Georgia tek game the previous year, Richard Samuel, we are asking to move to Linebacker setting his career back another year, in fact, his high school coach says he is not ready to play Linebacker and needs to Redshirt to learn the position. I bet you our Defensive Coordinator can teach Richard Samuel how to play the position of Linebacker. Our Quarterback in this system for 5 years now this coming season, Logan Gray is being asked to move to wide receiver. He is balking at that. It is not like our Offense is good at evaluating talent, or coaching all our wasted talent on offense how to play a position they did not play themselves, either. Where is our 11-year NFL Veteran $500,000 or $750,000 Offensive Coordinator ?
Bryan McClendon, our wide receiver when he played football, is Running Backs’ Coach. John Lilly, a quarterback when he played football, is our Tight Ends’ Coach. Tony Ball, a Great Running Back when he played football, is our Wide Receivers’ Coach.

I think this article accomplished its goal. Generated over 200 posts and a lot of excitement
from UGA fans. I think UGA will do well in 2010 with an easier schedule but not ready to predict how many wins. I would think 10 would be great.
One comment about an earlier post by SOUTHGADAWG88…. I would not wish to much about UGA
going more toward a run oriented offense……they might take it to the extreme state like GT which threw two passes for 12 yards with one intercepted against Iowa in the Orange Bowl.

MARK RICHT has a winning record against all sec schools except one. he has won more games than any other georgia coach during the same nine year period.
he has won all but one bowl games and he has won two SEC championships during his tenure at uga.
how many SEC championships has tennessee, auburn, south carolina, arkansas, alabama won since he has been at georgia, not as many as he has.
so he is second tier coach, than what does that put all of the other aforemention SEC schools? you got it behind cmr.

wow, does UGA know when to say enough. How about setting the bar low and actually surpassing expectations. No offense but you guys look like idiots these days and need to start lower on the scale. How many National Championship teams started freshman QBs or QBs with no experience? UGA will lose 5 games or more this year again, the year after that they maybe pretty darn good.

I have no idea what this YELLOWjacket / Bulldog crap is.
You are 1 or the other.
Excitement ? 200 posts of excitement from Bulldog fans you say YELLOWjacket ?
200 posts calling Bill King a drunken redneck bum with a stupid picture of his overweight belly, and you call THAT excitement.
Easy schedule ?
God Almighty.
Coach Richt has played 2 games a year against Florida and the vols, and this is his 10th year 7 wins.
18 games vs vols and Florida, 7 Coach Richt wins.
Easy schedule.
Coach Richt has managed to lose 8 games against teams NOT RANKED in the Final AP Poll Top 25.
8
in
9 years again.
Coach Richt has managed to lose to Kentucky twice.
Twice.
Kentucky LOST 11 games those 2 years they beat Coach Richt UGA, but not us, we could not beat them either year. 1 of those was AT HOME for UGA last year and the other in 2006.
Vandie LOST 8 games, 4-8 in 2006 speaking of 2006; but Vandie beat Coach Richt UGA.
I am told we had a great year 2006. That’s how great years are defined now at UGA.
In 2001 Boston College was in the Big East, and they beat Coach Richt UGA in fact the Big East is UNDEFEATED against Coach Richt UGA. Boston College is NOT ranked 2001 were it NOT for beating Coach Richt UGA in Music City Bowl. I am told Coach Richt is great in Bowl Games but 1 do not see 1 single bowl game against 1 single Top 10 Final AP Poll opponent in ANY bowl game ever by Coach Richt UGA.
2-7 vs Florida Coach Richt Era and despite also their better won/loss record than Coach Richt UGA in the Coach Richt Era and 2 National Championships by Florida, I am told Coach Richt UGA better than Florida too.
18 games Florida and vols. Won 7. Now, I am told by Bill King we will WIN THE BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS SEASON.
Or certainly next year after we lose 14 seniors this year and another 5 juniors including AJ Green.
LSU we don’t have a winning record against EITHER, and I am told despite their also 2 National Championships and LSU has a better won/loss record than Coach Richt UGA also, that Coach Richt UGA is better than LSU too in the Coach Richt Era.
Jim Donnan’s recruits had UGA great when Coach Richt got here. It was a cushy job which is why he took it. He hired the worst coaching staff in the history of college football and declared himself CEO.
Gave up calling plays, his Life’s Calling by God Above.
Brian VanGorder is a great NFL Defensive Coordinator I am told, but when I look up the Falcons’ Defense, I see them as 1 of the worst defenses in the NFL.
Neil Callaway I am told was promoted out of Coach Richt’s great “coaching staff” to be head coach at another school. That school is UAB and they have won 11 and lost 25. 11-25.
Coach Richt cannot get ANY offense against South Carolina. He established this right out of the shoot in his 1st year against South Carolina in 2001. He has done it every year since. Coach Richt LOST to a 6-Loss South Carolina team in 2007 Mike Bobo’s 1st year as On The Job Training to be Offensive Coordinator for Coach Richt after 1 year as quarterbacks’ coach at Jacksonville State. NFL ? No, none of that. 1 year at Jacksonville State though as Quarterbacks’ Coach, and that makes him Peter Principle Offensive Coordinator for Coach Richt. The offensive recruits in this state, are NOT IMPRESSED. Ask them. None of them would join us this year after the years Mike Bobo has NOT TAUGHT OUR MEN A DAMN THING, played favorites, wasted talent, and been wholly unable to teach them how to even line up and run a playing WITHOUT A DAMN PENALTY.
When they do, Mike Bobo has them in a play they cannot execute without fumble or interception. What just what is it that Mike Bobo does teach them ?
Oh, we’re going to win the BCS NC this year. All this talent.
Uh, what did he do with Matthew Stafford, AJ Green and Knowshon Moreno ?
“We had great season 2007.”
Hang on, I just started discussing 2007.
LOST to a 6-LOSS South Carolina team who did NOT EVEN GO TO A BOWL GAME in 2007.
We never beat a good team Top 10 Final AP Poll in a bowl game Coach Richt Era not once.
2007 was a great year ?
B.S.
We LOST to the vols in 2007.
South Carolina was NOT ranked in the Top 25 Final AP Poll 2007. We LOST.
The vols LOST 4 games 2007, but NOT to UGA they did NOT.
Before the season even got started really, we had 2 SEC EAST LOSSES.
13 POINTs
We averaged 13 points against the vols and South Carolina our “great season 2007.”
WITH :
Knowshon Moreno
Matthew Stafford
AJ Green
13 points on OFFENSE against South Carolina and the vols.
That was the most disappointing season is our history.
Those 2 games.
13 points each game.
Lovely.
2008 we are # 1 in the nation in every poll for the 1st time in UGA history preseason.
We LOST to Georgia tek.
Georgia tek LOST to Virginia at Georgia tek.
Virginia was 5-7 in 2008 but they beat Georgia tek.
UGA ?
No.
I am told 2008 was NOT DISAPPOINTING.
B.S.
We ended up NOT # 10 but # 13 in the Final AP Poll.
Had we started there and drooped 13 places, we would NOT HAVE BEEN RANKED.
# 1 preseason 2008.
NOT DISAPPOINTING ?
To whom ?
Right after Georgia tek BEAT Coach Richt 2008 the preseason # 1 team unanimous in the nation, Georgia tek LOST to LSU whom we BEAT, 3-38.
38-3 LSU beat Georgia tek 2008.
Coach Richt UGA. We LOST.
NOT DISAPPOINTING MY BUTT.
That’s like saying it is not a disappointment last season that we scored 10 points
10 points
On Oklahoma State
10 points.
God Almighty 10 points and HOUSTON BEAT THEM, but not us.
Coach Richt played in these Sugar Bowls.
Excuse me. I sat down at 1 and we were behind 28 to NOTHING before I could quit booing the introduction pre-game of Michael F. Adam$.
2 others
# 19 Hawaii joke of a team.
# 22 Florida State 5-Loss team.
B.S. we are relevant on the NATIONAL STAGE with these Bowl Wins.
B.S.
2008 we are talking about great for UGA. The year Virginia and LSU beat Georgia tek, but NOT US. # 1 in the nation preseason we were.
2008 at half time, 31 to NOTHING.
How G.D. embarrassing is that ?
# 1 preseason in every poll.
B.S.
Don’t you dare try to talk to me about BCS NC you blithering idiot Bill King.
29 consecutive points Georgia tek 2008 LOST.
31 consecutive points Alabama 2008 LOST.
42 consecutive points Florida 2008 LOST.
Great because we were # 1 preseason ?
KNOWSHON MORENO
MATTHEW STAFFORD
AJ GREEN
That is 2008 :
29 consecutive points Georgia tek 2008 LOST.
31 consecutive points Alabama 2008 LOST.
42 consecutive points Florida 2008 LOST.

Even if anyone had the time or desire to read your entire epistle above, who would want to? If you and others with your point of view are going to be so vehemently anti-Richt, then maybe you better pick another team to root for becuase he isnt going anywhere anytime soon. No chance. UGA is so far behind Florida and Alabama its scary. Not to mention LSU. We simply don’t have the class to class depth of talent that Florida has nor the coaching to make these players much better. It is insurmountable. Tennessee and Auburn are on the path back to respectability or better. The SEC has taken huge power leap in the last few years from their already dominant position nationally but Georgia has not kept pace. One problem with the Bama/UGA comparison Dawg fans. Sure, UGA has more talent than Bama did when Nick Saban took over, but there’s one BIG difference…UGA still has Mark Richt as its head coach…Mark Richt is a great man, but he’s soft and it shows in his program. He’s not even close to being Nick Saban. UGA will compete for the SEC, but they’ll never win the NC under Richt.

Way too early to concern ourselves with this. Lets work on the turnovers, penalties and general motivational tricks (uniform fashion and endzone dances). Get back to SEC football and make the SEC trophy our goal.

It worked in 2007!!!!! Richt and his coaches at this very moment are devising a new “rush the field” and “taunting” act to order if UGA scores a TD against Florida in 2010, to get the Dawgs really “fired up” and motivated”!!!! The new taunting will surpass anything the dawgs have done in the past, and will involve a complicated arrangement of throat slashing, crotch grabbing and finger pointing!!!! Richt—a motivational genius! Do what works baby!!!!!

To DEAN…………………………You are so right. BAMA is not Notre Dame…………..They are in the toilet. Notre Dame used to be a great school for football but how times have changed.
Oklahoma is trying to be like BAMA. Bob Stoops has been to Tuscaloosa to watch how SABAN conducts practices. Stoops along with several of his assistants came to Tuscaloosa a few days before the NC game and watched practice.
Also Bob Stoops and Oklahoma will be using THE PACIFIC INSTITUTE out of Seattle for mental toughness and conditioning, due to he saw how BAMA came back stronger after they lost the last 2 games in 2008. Sounds like Oklahoma wants to be like BAMA.
“Bob Stoops’ words to me were, ‘I want exactly what Alabama got,’” Richardson told the Birmingham News.
Oklahoma was seen as the cutting-edge model for other program not too many years ago.
But after the BCS losses and this season’s disappointments, Stoops now is gravitating to the ideas of others to help him rebuild what he had.
Do we need to talk about Univ. of Southern Californification. They will be on probation soon.
So what you really wanted to say is that there are quite a few teams that want to be like BAMA. Teams are wanting to run the 3-4 defense all of a sudden. Teams are coming to see how BAMA conducts practices and taking recomendations on mental toughness from SABAN and BAMA.
Go to the hole you came out of………………………DEANO. Read on DEANO
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops apparently has detected what is working around college football.
After struggling through a 7-5 record that was his worst regular-season mark during his 11-season tenure with the Sooners, Stoops apparently is looking for some answers.
One of the places he will turn after the season will be the Pacific Institute, a Seattle-based company that has conducted mental conditioning classes for Crimson Tide players since 2008.
Alabama’s success has paved the way for the company’s work with other teams, most notably Florida State and the Sooners in the future.

I would be reluctant to predict anything that far out. You never know who we might have become a star and you never know what serious contenders ahead of you might have 2 dozen injuries. I would also say there are a number of SEC teams looking at 2011 being thier year. UF, TN come to mind. I think 2011 is going to be the most highly anticipated and contested year in a long time on this side of the league.
But obviously its possible to get invited to the NC game by winning the SEC with 1, even 2 losses, and I would say that is certainly a realistic goal.

Georgia will not win anything big with Richt. He won 2 SEC titles only because bama and florida had morons running their programs. With Saban and Meyer in place for 20 years, georgia doesn’t have a chance to even win the SEC. Win the BCS title in 2011????? Pass some of the stuff you’ve been smoking–it must be really good!!!

Has anybody else noticed as I have over the years, that no matter what the University of Florida accomplishes, thier fans cannot get over the self-image of being the bratty kid down the street desperately seeking attention? It’s very odd.

Ponce DeLeon………………………Of course they have better players, but they needed to have more of an edge. The players even felt like it helped them overcome alot. Call it what you want, but it seems to have helped and other teams are getting on board.
McElroy said he appreciated simple advice from Richardson and many others: Have fun.
“Sometimes you can get so down on yourself and upset that you don’t allow yourself to have fun anymore,” McElroy said.
Richardson said linebacker Rolando McClain became the “Tim Tebow of the team,” a passionate leader whose energy fills the locker room. Before the rematch against Florida, McClain instructed teammates what to focus on and how to finish the game, Richardson said.
The Pacific Institute, a Seattle-based international company that has conducted mental conditioning classes for Crimson Tide players since the spring of 2008, branched out to other teams thanks to Alabama’s success and Nick Saban’s connections.
Antowaine Richardson, a Pacific Institute instructor, said the company started working with Florida State this season thanks to Saban’s relationship with head-coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher. Oklahoma will begin working with the Pacific Institute after this season.
Seems like JAH-JAW needs to bring this company in also.
