UGA-Tech rivalry goes full-bore all year long

Any time Georgia and Georgia Tech meet in athletics, there’s plenty of trash talk and bad feeling between the two camps.

Which is as it should be. What good is an in-state rivalry if the word “hate” doesn’t get bandied about regularly? And in that regard, the folks from North Avenue make it so easy. …

The main focus of the rivalry between the two schools may be in football, but it’s hard to beat the atmosphere at a men’s basketball game between the Dogs and Jackets, especially the student sections.

Unfortunately, the UGA athletic association schedulers, who didn’t do Mark Richt any favors this year, have made it tough for new coach Mark Fox as well by agreeing to play Tech in basketball a couple of days before classes resume at UGA, thus possibly negating some of the Dogs’ home court advantage, which has been considerable in this series. UGA has won 24 of 27 games played against Tech at Stegeman Coliseum.

Remarkably, the Jackets haven’t won in Athens in men’s basketball since Gerald Ford was president. Of course, the game wasn’t played on either school’s home court for a while. The series returned to the campus arenas in the 1995-96 season after 14 straight meetings at the old Omni in Atlanta. The home team has won every time since, with one exception: Georgia’s 75-70 win on Dec. 6, 2000. Tech’s last win in Athens came 13 tries ago, on Nov. 26, 1976.

Hopefully enough students will already be in town to have the Steg rocking tonight, but reserved-seat tickets for the game are still available. My new editing duties on the AJC’s print side will keep me from attending, but I’m hoping any of the folks in red and black who are free tonight will make the trek over to the Classic City and pack the house. The ticket booths at the Steg open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are $15. Student tickets are $2 (student ID required) and are on sale until 3 p.m. today at the UGA Bookstore and from 4 to 5:30 at the coliseum. The first 1,000 UGA students in attendance will receive a Wreck Tech T-shirt.

Meanwhile, the football Yellow Jackets will be playing their bowl game against Iowa tonight, which raises an interesting situation for UGA fans, who generally aren’t too fond of the Big 10. But if there’s anything UGA fans hate worse than the Big 10 (and Notre Dame), it’s Georgia Tech. So not surprisingly I’m hearing from a lot of Dogs fans that they’ll be pulling for Iowa in tonight’s Orange Bowl.

What about you? Can you bring yourself to pull for a Big 10 team as long as they’re playing the Jackets?

RESHAD AND RENNIE

Not many folks are surprised to hear that safety Reshad Jones won’t be returning for his senior season with the Bulldogs, and the expectation is that linebacker Rennie Curran probably will join him in leaving for the NFL. ESPN says they’re both likely to make the announcement official later today.

Jones had his ups and downs as a Dog, particularly with pass coverage and tackling, but finished strong this season and made a couple of key interceptions. Curran has been the leading tackler and one of the mainstays of the defense for the past couple of years. They’ll both be missed next year, when whoever winds up as Georgia’s new defensive coordinator will have a pretty big rebuilding job on his hands, with graduation meaning the departure of the heart of the D-line as well.

Taken from UGA’s media guide :

2002 – Head coach Mark Richt’s second team won more games than
any team in UGA history–13–and won Georgia’s first SEC championship
in 20 years. Only a 7-point loss to FLORIDA in Jacksonville kept the Dogs
out of a shot at the national championship game. The 13-1 Bulldogs, after
defeating FSU in the Nokia Sugar Bowl, still finished the season ranked
No. 3 in all major polls.

I just heard a report on the radio where a major financial istitution did a survey of the best deals of college’s from a best value perspective in the U.S. Gerogia ranked 9th Tech 15th poor tech still getting owned in the state of georgia 30-24 yecchies & still a 2nd class instituion in your own state HA!

Guess Who?

Who gives a crap about all the past history of both schools? Whats it matter? The truth is UGA has a much larger fan base than Tech. UGA has more student population than Tech.UGA is a liberal Arts school. Tech student population is full of foreign students.(most don’t give a damn about sports).Techs primary course of study is engineering. And yes Tech has added some other minor subjects. I guess to get the athletes in. UGA has much better facilities than Tech because UGA gets the big bucks from that fan base and Alumni. I like Tech but we cannot deny the facts. Thats the way it is and most likely will always be that way. But UGA fans you gotta understand thats why some Tech fans get obnoxous when we beat UGA at any thing. Its like UGA beating the gators.

Go Dawgs! Sic ‘em! The Georgia Bulldogs OWN Georgia Tech!!!!

Just the facts...

January 5th, 2010

73-66!
30-24!
The Dawgs own the termites!

Using the very same sources that they claim 4 national titles in football gives 5 national championships to the Georgia Bulldogs: 1927, 1942, 1946, 1968 and 1980.

In Athens we fly the banners for the 1942 & 1980 national champions!

PS. don’t forget that Mark Fox’s Dawgs just whipped Hewitt’s Jackets 73-66!

Who is overrated?

Georgia Tech is overrated!

The worst UGA football team in a decade whipped the jackettes 30-24!
And the lowly UGA basketball team just whipped the overrated GA Tech team 73-66!

Combine all that with the Lady Dawgs whipping Tech and guess who is the state champs in football and basketball?

The Georgia Bulldogs are!

73-66 UGA Bulldogs’ Men’s Basketball team, with a far better Academic Progress Rate APR than GA tek’s men’s basketball thugs, beat GA Tek tonight 73-66. GA tek suffers only a 914 APR, and Paul Hewitt who has a LOSING RECORD to UGA Bulldogs, has been put on NCAA PROBATION with only 11 Scholarships allowed. GA tek has not beat UGA in Athens since 1976. Who has the better coach ? Clearly, UGA’s new basketball coach, who does NOT have a LOSING RECORD to GA teak as GA tek’s coach Paul Hewitt always has bad against UGA Bulldogs both on the court and in the classroom. Our players are NOT thugs. Paul Hewitt is now 4-6 vs. UGA. Paul Hewitt is a bad coach and would have been fired years ago at UGA. At GA tek, they try to cover up his NCAA PROBATION and NCAA limiting him to just 11 Scholarships.

56-50 Women’s Basketball UGA Lady Bulldogs also have a far higher Academic Progress Rate than the GA tek women’s basketball team. Also, UGA Lady Bulldogs have NEVER lost to GA tek in Athens in women’s basketball. The GA tek coach, after last year refusing to shake Andy Landers’ hand after he beat the crap out of her team, this year did. It resonated throughout the college sports what a horrible POOR SPORT MaChelle Joseph is as GA tek’s women’s basketball coach. The score this year was 56-50. The better coach ? Without any doubt Coach Andy Landers.

30-24 Forcing Paul Johnson to scrap his high school offense, GA tek Heisman hopeful Josh Nesbitt threw 4 incomplete passes as wounded ducks to end the game. It was a devastating loss, leaving Paul Johnson to tell the GA tek fans (both of them) to hit UGA fans in the face. This is a POOR SPORT. This, while, Coach Richt beat GA tek for the 8th time in 9 years of 90-27 football including 2 BCS Bowl Championship Game WINS. GA tek has not won a Major Bowl Game since 1955, a span now in excess of 55 years. It also marked the 60th defeat of GA tek football and coupled with their bowl loss to bring Paul Johnson to 0-2 in bowl games, while Coach Richt is 7-2, it is a bitter pill to swallow for a football team at GA tek under Paul Johnson who has a far worse Academic Progress Rate APR than Coach Richt’s football team’s APR. The better coach ? By far Coach Richt.

It has been a BAD YEAR for GA Tek. A complete clean sweep. In all major sports UGA has far exceeded the Academic Progress Rate of GA tek. And, oh yeah, while we are on the topic, we have BEAT GA tek for this year :

73-66 men’s basketball UGA wins over GA tek.

56-50 women’s basketball UGA wins over GA tek

30-24 football UGA wins over GA tek.

A day to go down in Infamy for GA tek. It could not have happened to a worse group of losers, thugs, college drop-outs and POOR SPORTS. Congratulations GA tek, a clean sweep, in every possible fashion.

The Dawgs stun the Jackets at the Steg. Iowa demolishes Tech and unmasks that one dimensional offense and a poor defense, and embarrasses them on national TV. How sweet it its!

As I look back over the season for Georgia, I have concluded that we are better than our record. There were two or three games (Oklahoma State, LSU, Kentucky) that we could and should have won. We should have been 9-3 and who knows what momentum could have done with the other three games we lost? Georgia is going to be alright. We will improve our defense, we will win an SEC Championship again. Go dawgs! Do you realize what we did to the 11th rated offense in the nation (Texas A&M)? And that was without our defensive coordinator!

After the “Massacre in Miami” last night, all of Gailey’s studs are surely going bye-bye to get the freak away from the most overrated, overpaid and overweight coach in college football. Notice not a one of Turkey Neck’s recruits is contributing, it’s all Gailey’s boys. What a laughing stock!!!!

Tech has to be concerned. When they play ANYONE outside of the ACC, they are physically dominated. Their offense is not a mystery anymore. Their defense if the worst. Their kicking game is bad.

Guess what, CPJ did not invent football afterall!

ACC has a LOSING BOWL RECORD. It did before this year, and it LOST more than they won in bowl games this year too, not that you have the guts to say that in print Mark Bradley.

Who is the top-ranked ACC team ?

Trick question, because every year for the last 5 years, and now again this year, the ACC doesn’t have a top-ranked team. Will GA tek be about Number 12, you ask ? Excuse me, if there were an 8-team Play-Off as you have discussed here, that would mean that the ACC NEVER HAS a team in the Play-Offs. Last year, the top-ranked ACC team was Number 15. 2 years before that, the top-ranked ACC team was Number 18. The average top-ranked ACC team is Number 12, and that is over half a dozen years, Average ACC top-ranked team Number 12.

GA tek (and TCU) come running in here having beat six (6) teams not even in a bowl game. In an era now where the top 70 teams go to a bowl game, the ACC only sent 7 teams to bowl games this season. And, still the ACC managed to lose more bowl games than it won. The ACC had already a losing bowl record. Now, it has MORE of a losing bowl record.

Hell, the Iowa coach cannot even tell you the name of the ACC team he beat giving up only 7 points all night to that high school offense. He called GA tek, Weak Forest, after the blow-out.

It has been since President Dwight Eisenhower Ike was President that GA tek last won a Major Bowl Game. ACC is a lousy football conference. ACC ends the season with a LOSING RECORD to The SEC this year, again. Even with GA tek beating the only 2 SEC teams not in a bowl game, and even with the 2 bowl losses, The SEC still beat the ACC head-to-head this year 5-4. You name the 4 wins, why not the 5 LOSSES ? South Carolina over Climpsum Farmers. South Carolina over NC State. UGA over GA tek at their house. Florida over Florida State. Alabama over Virginia Tech. Those are NOT BIG SEC WINS ? Huh ? The ACC fewer wins are MORE IMPORTANT ? That is what you are saying Mark Bradley, you idiot.

“If the Jackets are to play for even higher stakes, it won’t be because of their high school offense.”

Then, why did the high school offense when playing reasonable teams (not 6 non-bowl teams instead and the lousy ACC with no top-ranked team except 1 we beat like a drum, or 2 we beat like a drum) do NOTHING on OFFENSE ?

7 points GA tek’s high school offense scored last night.

ACC 4-5 vs. SEC this season, including all bowl games.

ACC 3-4 in bowl games this season. LOSING BOWL RECORD EXTENDED for ACC.

The ACC is meaningless, have the guts to say it Mark Bradley, you LIAR. Virginia Tech may jump 1 team from their Number 12 AP Poll ranking today, GA tek. The only team Virginia Tech beat was Nebraska who beat NO TEAM in the Final AP Poll any of the last 4 years now this year. Not 1. ACC is a joke. We all know that.
